MySQL is one of the most popular database management systems available, powering everything from Internet powerhouses to individual corporate databases to simple end-user applications, and everything in between. This book will teach you all you need to know to be immediately productive with MySQL. By working through 30 highly focused hands-on lessons, your MySQL Crash Course will be both easier and more effective than you'd have thought possible.
If you're like me and have been wanting to learn how to use MySQL you've probably looked at all of the other books, including the MySQL documentation website. And if you're like me it's probably confused the heck out of you with trying to figure out where to go next. This book solves that problem. It breaks it down into easy manageable steps on how what it is, how to use it, and when to use it as well as a bunch of other good stuff. It's easy to read, easy to understand and is a handy reference to have around, just in case you forget a command or two. I highly recommend it.
Exceedingly useful for introduction of methods and as reference for general questions. I'd call it essential reading to jumpstart using MySQL and a solid investment. The author takes on a no-nonsense approach to the subject with impressive economy and clarity of writing. Not an exhaustive look at MySQL by any means, but a strong primer on learning and using the platform. Highly recommended.
It's entirely possible that much of my enthusiasm for this book derives from the simple experience of using MySQL, which is powerful and astonishingly simple to learn. Having said that, I still feel that this book is an excellent introduction to the subject. The pace is quick without leaving out important information, and the examples are all helpful. Reference information is also included in a convenient format.
