Hmm..I read it while killing time waiting for my flight and then on my flight(Coincidentally the story starts in airport). Easy read though childish way of writing. But well, that's what made me give it 3 stars. The story was simple and easy to relate..best friends vs lovers vs best friends as lovers (well, my best friend turned my boyfriend and is now my ex-bf yet my best friend...so yeah man, I could easily relate). The author used his colloquial lingo of school-where everyone tries to play smartass-to describe the bumpy ride of life of two different teenagers with different lives but similar problems. It sweetly shows the great feeling of camaraderie and trust between best friends, the joys and vulnerability of first love, the feeling that one can conquer anything for the one person, the tug of war between attraction and emotion, the dawning of the realization that whatever happens you do love your best friend, final decision to choose which love is greater and who you cannot absolutely live without. The book left the decision to the reader. Well, for me true friendship is much more important than a relationship..as true love may be rare but true friends, my dear, are rarer still, especially in today's cutthroat world. I will, however, always want my love to be a really good friend first. But then, every situation is different, right?

This is a tale of two best friends who navigate their way through their teenage years figuring out if they are just best friends or more than that. What they have between them is more than a friendship and little less than a love. Will they ever figure out the thing they share or will remain just friends?

The plot of the story is good but the storytelling could have been better. It was really a tiring read. The cover of the book is attractive and the blurb is intriguing but doesn’t go with the writing style of the story. There is a lot of scope for improvement. If you are looking for a light-hearted, young-adult, teenage romance, one-time read, you can give this a chance but do not expect too much and I don’t promise you anything.

Wow, it might be the first time I'm giving a book even less than a 2 star.

Actual rating : 1.5 stars.

So, you all might have read the blurb and yes it is really catchy but I wish I could say the same for the book. It was nowhere what I thought it would be or what i thought after reading the blurb and also so much brag about author being this and that.

While I do think it had a pretty awesome poetic touch but well, that's it. Nothing else.

No plot.
No story.
No characters.
Nothing that conclude it to be a book.

All I had read was,

'She laughed, I laughed, problem solved. '
and to say it was not annoying would be an understatement.
There was nothing like a story line here. Just the normal, how bollywood works. And actually I'm fed up with this narrating capabilities of the main characters. How they think it's right or fantastic to narrate their story like, 'Do want to hear a story?' blah blah.

I can't stop if I once started how much I disliked this book. But well, I do think the poems author wrote were awesome.

A SIMPLE BOOK BUT I FEEL A BOY AND GIRL CAN BE REAL FRIENDS WITHOUT BEING IN LOVE

Picking this up wasn’t a bad deal at all. Sumrit has shown good potential with his debut novel JUST FRIENDS – a story that revolves around the friendship between a girl and a boy. The age old question of whether a girl and a guy can be friends seems to be answered almost perfectly by this teenager.
The story is about the two youngsters Aaryan and Tanie and their growing up years in school and hostel. Very relatable instances of the regular bunking, group studying, hostel tantrums, indulging in sports, examination fevers, friendships, crushes and first love add flavor and fragrance to his writing. School life is an important part of a person’s life. Those are the days of carelessness and alertness all the same. It somewhat leads you to your path ahead in life. For some, those are the most wonderful days of growing up…while for some a difficult road with hardships and bruises. Filled with humorous incidents and decently intellectual conversations, the book overall is a breezy and a refreshing read.
What prompted me more to pick up the book was its blurb/synopsis on the back page. “He knows everything about her, right from her favourite books to her favorite bra. She knows everything about him, right from his favourite soccer club to his favourite x rated websites. He will complete her English homework, even at three in the night. She will arrange an Armani suit for him, even if it calls for flirting with ugly guys. He has her picture in his wallet. She has his number on speedial. They talk to each other all the time. They talk about each other when they don’t talk to each other. They discuss everything from periods to playstation. They have tasted alcohol and then thrown up…together. They have bunked countless tuitions… together. They cant live without each other. YET They don’t love each other. They are JUST FRIENDS.”
Also, for me, most importantly, the correct usage of the language made it an enjoyable experience. I’m happy Sumrit did not disappoint me. There is humor, wit, emotions, and an element of connectivity.

2*

Purchased this book after reading so many reviews but frankly I didn't like the book. Yes, one had to be more patience to read this one like never before. My verdict? Started with 2 stars in between 3 n half stars and ended with 2 stars. Don't go with description. It's not about friendship. It's more about love. There are 2 different love cum friendship stories, aryan's and Tanie's. 3* for aryan's story and 1* for tanie's. Seriously, such a boring story.
In many instances writer says "we laughed". But seriously, I stopped there to find the joke but did not found anything.
I would not recommend this book. Completely waste of time. Don't know how it comes to The Best seller list. Must be because it's name and name and interesting plot. But trust me. Nothing is there according to the plot. Disappointed (Completely)

A very nice book, Just Friends. I don't know if it explains whether a boy and a girl can be just friends or not, but i am sure it explains the bond created between two best friends. A bond which is very strong and ineffable.

P.S: Why does the lead female character always get hit by a truck (not a car or a two wheeler), at the corner of her street?

Good book. It took some time in the starting to take off, but afterwards its difficult to leave the book midway. The last poem about friendship is awesome rest of them are okok. Quite interesting book which revolves around love & friendship and explaining the difference between the two.

This book delves on a very familiar topic- that of friendship v/s love. Though scores of books have been written on this, it is the presentation that makes a difference. Unfortunately, 'Just Friends' fails horribly on that front. A story about spoiled rich brats may not be bad per-se. But page after page of conversation without moving the actual story forward irritates the reader badly. The only saving grace is the last few pages, which is surprisingly dignified and well-handled. The extra star in the rating is because of that.

JUST FRIENDS is a story that revolves around the friendship between a girl and a boy. The same old question – whether a girl and a guy can be just friends is addressed in this book. There are two different stories in this book. We follow Aaryan and Tanie, and learn their stories which are quite similar.
The first story is about how Aaryan, a seventeen-year-old, with lots of ex-girlfriends, from a boarding school in Gurgaon, falls in love with Ishita, a seventeen-year-old from Singapore. He meets her at MUN (Mock UN), Delhi, and falls in love with her. More like a love at first sight. He tries to impress her. She shows no interest in relationships and doesn’t believe in love. But eventually she starts liking him. Things start to look good for Aaryan, but suddenly she realises that long distance in not going to work and leaves him. He is devasted, depressed and starts ignoring his friends. Boza, who is in love with Aaryan tries to cheer him up. Boza and Aaryan are really close friends. She knows him better than anyone else, and will go to any extent to make him happy. Her love is never reciprocated. This is Aaryan’s journey as he tries to figure out if they are just friends or more than that.
The second story, is about Tanie and Sumer. He is her new nieghbour. They both meet at a summer class and then slowly become friends over the holidays. Now they are almost inseparable. She is madly in love with Rehaan. Sumer does everything possible to make her happy, he even calls Rehaan to his place so that he can spend sometime with her. At the same time, Sumer’s long distance relationship with Liaka is not working out as expected. Tanie gets her heart broken and Sumer comes to her rescue. She is not sure about her feelings anymore and runs away to escape reality.
Both the stories are connected. Read the book to find out more. I liked the way the connection was established. This is Sumrit Shahi’s debut novel and it was written when he was seventeen-years-old. Considering that I would say the Author has shown great potential with his debut novel. There are lot of things that the author has written that we can relate to. Like bunking classes, board exam pressure, friendship, first love, etc. But at the same time, I felt there are just a little too many sexual innuendos in this book. Especially the first half, it took me really long to get into the book. I wish he had written little less of that. I personally felt that this is not a book for all age groups. It is a refreshing and quick read.

Two best friends, a string of relationships and everything in between! The main characters of this story are Aaryan and Boza Corbi who are best of friends but they don’t love each other. Aaryan falls for Ishita a student from Singapore and Boza, his best friend encourages him in everything. Boza is in love with Aaryan but she never shows her feelings to him whereas Aaryan is struggling to get Ishita’s attention.

Boza can go to any extent to see Aaryan happy. The author has smartly sums up this blooming love story between them by a nice, breezy poetic note written by Boza Corbi.

On the other hand, Tanie and Sumer become best of friends in no time. Sumer’s long distance relationship with Liaka goes haywire. Tanie is heart-broken when she learns about her boyfriend, Rehaan cheating on her. Sumer gradually falls in love with Tanie. However, recent breakup makes her unsure about everything.

The plot has two different stories of two different teenagers – one is Aaryan and Boza and another is Tanie and Sumer. Interestingly, Author has written this story when he himself was in his teens. The author manages to spice up simple story with his witty style backed by humorous one-liners and countless funny incidents.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story written by the author, Sumrit Shahi. I strongly recommend this novel to all those who are adults now and once were a teenager.

In fact, I have listed down some page numbers where I want my readers specially go and read them. I bet you’ll enjoy some incidents described in the plot as some portions of the story makes the story quite entertaining to read.

Here are those: 21, 22, 24, 27, 40, 42, 47, 62, 120, 132, 135, 148, 149, 165, 189, 191, 198, 205, 216 & 218.

Below are some of the one liners which I couldn’t skip but to notice:
“She laughed, I laughed, problem resolved.”

“Damn Kabir, damn Boza, damn Shazia – they all could wait. I had just offered her the bait.”

“He rubbed his hairy thigh and asked, ‘Why?’ He got up and started walking towards the kitchen. ‘Will you have something?’
A fan and a rope. ‘Nothing,’ I said.”

“You… you sleepster,” I shouted into the phone. It was just 1.30 a.m. and this guy wanted to sleep when his best friend was about to weep.”

“Damsels and dramatics go hand in hand.”

Can a girl and a boy be... Just Friends is divided into two parts, narrated by two different people, which somehow shares a similar plotline. The first one is about Aaryan and Ishita who are distant lovers, and Boza who is Aaryan’s BFF and she eventually falls in love with him.
The second story is about Tania and Sumer with their respective partners Rehaan and Liaka which has the same twist of Lovers Vs Friends Vs Lovers Vs Best friend.
Both the stories connect when two people (Tania and Aaryan) meet at the airport and share their parallel love stories with each other. Since the author has written the novel when he was 17 years old, the language was simple and the plots were all about school’s life and relatable situations like bunking classes, group studying, hostel’s life, exam fever and so on.
I won’t quite go into the details as it will spoil the suspense, maybe you should find it yourself. However, one thing is for sure, don’t go by the title because it didn’t really answer my query. It is just a story which is all about the relationship between a boy and a girl, and how their close bond of being just friends turned into lovers.

If you want to spend some 'me' time reading a book? or if you are in a relaxing mood , then you can grab a copy of this book and read it sipping coffee or tea. Can a Girl and a Boy Be Just Friends ? revolves around a question which is time and again asked by the society. The answers to this question is almost always segmented into two halves. While the youth believe in the fact that they can remain just friends with the opposite sex, the elders think it otherwise. Here too, guided by personal inhibitions often a result of societal norms, the two protagonists fail to understand the power of the relationship they shared with their best friends , deciding to choose their love life over them ; only to realise and probably regret the path that they have chosen.

A good & light read. Aaryan's story was quite boring at the beginning. The second half of the book was more interesting i.e., Tanie's story.
