Fairy Tales & Ever Afters #1
Loving a Fairy Godmother
Once upon a Time, in a Kingdom that was just a little twisted (oh yeah, and kinda far away), Fairy Godmothers Rule! Elf Kings drool, and a Knight was having a bad time with a Dragon.
Too bad he didn't realize the Dragon would be the least strange part of his day...
Fairy GodMOTHER. As in female - it's right there in the name. With those divine dimples, killer blue eyes, and hard muscled body, no one's going to be mistaking Tiernan for a female anytime soon, but due to a wish gone wrong, Tiernan is now the only Fairy Godfather in existence. Strangely, most Fairy Godmother's don't have a problem with this change in the status quo... all except the one Fairy Godmother who he'd go and win a kingdom for.
Reina has never been like the others. Organized, efficient, logical - and liking the status quo, thank you very much. After all, the FGs do not need a stubborn, infuriating, feckless male messing up tradition, and she wants him gone...like yesterday. Circumstances arise that just might let her get her wish, but in a way even she never wished for.
After a run-in with the not-exactly-nice Elf King, Tiernan's employment status is called into question, and he is given the task of getting a woman named Cinderella a Happily Ever After or lose his position as a Fairy Godfather and go back to being mortal. Problem with that, becoming a human again means he'll become Dragon chow. So Cinderella will get to the ball and get her Prince if he has to dress her down to her shoes himself, and he's bringing Reina along to help. If he's going to get a HEA for a mortal, darn sure he's going to get one for himself as well.

About the author
Danielle Monsch
23 books375 followersBorn to the pothole ridden streets of Pittsburgh, PA, USA Today Bestselling author Danielle Monsch started writing in a time long ago, a time when there were not enough vampire stories to read and she had to write her own to fill the void. Yes, such a time of darkness did indeed exist.
Danielle writes stories full of fantastical goodness and plenty of action, but always with lots of romance (and a bit of woo-hoo!) mixed in. Vampires and Werewolves and Demons and Angels, Sword & Sorcery, Fairy Tales, Updated Mythologies and the like - if it's out of the ordinary, it's fair game for her stories.
When not writing, Danielle reads comic books and watches cartoons (though she says she reads manga and watches anime, because saying it in a different language makes all the difference.) She listens to music, plays D&D, follows XKCD, watches movies with the Rifftrax on, and is mom to two amazing little girls and wife to her favorite guy in the world.

Like other reviewer said, i have to mention, that this story strongest point its the basic concept of it: The idea of a fairy Godfather in a world of Fairy Godmothers.
“Tiernan, you better prepare yourself, because you are going to cause quite a commotion as the first ever Fairy Godfather.”
Unfortunately i didn't like the way it was executed. For starters, i didn't like the colloquial dialogues:
“Could you cut me some slack considering the almost dying thing?”
Reina also heard that she’d offered a blowjob to Tiernan within the first thirty seconds of their meeting.
I'm reading a fantasy book, with knights and Fairy Godmothers/Fathers, i do not want those characters using twenty first century language.
I didn't like feeling confused as to when the story takes place. In the beginning one has this:
Tiernan had once told Reina that Godmother Sara, the Supreme Leader of the Fairy Godmothers, looked exactly how mortals thought FGs were supposed to look and showed her a print to prove it.
A print? Of what? Disney's Godmother?? O_O
Okay, that word, plus the modern speech, left me thinking that this was going to take place in the future (if only i could forget that the story had apparently started thirty years ago, and that Tiernan, a Knight(remember!) had been fighting dragons, the real ones, at the time)....
For me Print's don't play well with all those elements....
And then Cinderella was mentioned..and i was: Okay, when does this take place??
( i know, too much thinking for such a short story..)
Tiernan and Raina ended up making a cute couple. Also they had some intense/hot scenes...
They really left their mark on Cinderella story...cough...i mean education...but what can one say...its not like the poor girl had tv..or books...
Okay, so bottom line, the story had potential, and it could have been so much better! But in the end, the result was not that great...

Então, nesse livro Danielle Monsch traz a história do primeiro Fada padrinho do mundo.

Overall, this was a fun, flirty take on an old classic, and I really enjoyed it. There was a hot, hunky, chivalrous knight who has far more to him than meets the eye, a stubborn Fairy Godmother wary of being hurt again, and an imperative quest for the elusive Happily Ever After, not to mention some sneaky plotting on the author’s part.
The only thing that I really didn’t particularly care for was the minor bits of exhibitionism, but anyone familiar with my reviews knows that this isn’t something that I’m a fan of in general, so that should come as little surprise.
Recommended for fans of chivalrous knights, stubborn fairies, and old adversaries finally getting that elusive Happily Ever After.

I received this book from Netgalley as part of a multi-work collection (Once Upon A Fairy Tale: A Collection of 11 Fairy Tale Inspired Romances) in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Yup. Humans don't have blubber.
Or humanoids. Whatever.
He's not a whale shifter.
DNF as of the second sentence. I think that's a land speed record.

Danielle Monsch's imaginative tale of love and romance between a Fairy Godmother and the only Fairy Godfather has the perfect mixture of fairy tale, fantasy and a steamy romance. I was fascinated by the creative twist on fairy tale, which points out some of the human sides of the stories that get ignored or glossed over in children's versions; the issues of sex, physical attraction, and whether or not happily ever after can be had without something more than true love. I grew to love the relationship between the main characters, Tiernan and Reina, although I admit to an initial frustration that at first the attraction seemed only based on physical qualities. I yearned for some interaction between them that showed a love for something beyond the physical, especially as thirty years (in fairy land) have passed from Tiernan's initial wish to become a Fairy Godfather to this part of the story. I wanted more back story or more explanation of the tension before the move to steamy romance. Still I loved the story and the interaction between their story and that of Cinderella, whose Happily Ever After only comes when she accepts herself as a being able to give and receive love. An excellent read for anyone who loves a little fantasy and magic mixed with their romance.

Another retelling. How do I find myself in these positions?
Anyways, this one wasn't all that bad. The main dude seemed initially to be sincerely misogynistic ("Glad your priorities are straight, Fairy,” he growled, with not enough strength to lift his head, not enough strength to even raise his voice and yell like he wanted. His legs were numb, and blackness settled around the edges of his vision. “’Go this way,’ you said. ‘Trust me.’ I knew I should never have listened. Since when can a female give directions?") but later seemed to genuinely respect everyone no matter their gender...with no clear indication as to what changed his mindset...or maybe the misogyny was cos he was dying at that time.
Eh. Author never says.
Also,it wasn't so much fantasy as erotic cos the fairy folks didn't do any significant magic. But they had sex.
Ok, I'm out. 3 stars. Had some editing errors.

A sexy revamp of the old fairytales with a twist and this author does not disappoint. Plenty of the traditional tale is left in though the sexy undercurrents are more appealing to adult readers and it spices things up quite a bit. I loved her "Stone Guardian" and thought I would give these books a whirl but I am not really a huge fan of novellas. I really enjoyed this book and I am off to the read the others in the series now.

I don’t think I would have found my own way to this book but luckily it was a part of the Magic after dark boxed set. It’s a cute short read. The dialect doesn’t always flow seamlessly but for a short story it didn’t bother me too much.

I really enjoyed these little stories. With just enough detail to tell you which princess they are talking about but from the fairy godmothers view. Kept me interested didn’t drag and loved them. Would recommend to any after a quick fix and some happy endings.

Loved this book!
Such a nice new take on Fairy Godmothers and an excellent twist at the end although I wish there was more of the elf king

Not Your Typical Cinderella
A fairy godfather? I had my doubts, but it was an entertaining story with a little steamy romance to add some heat.

Given the number of times I've successfully chosen books with fairy tale tropes, I had high hopes that this one would sit comfortably in the "I need a Happily Ever After" category. I got my Happily Ever After (HEA), but it was so hurried that I had little time to savor it. I'll confess I tried reading this book a good three times before I could successfully start it. A rough patch at work, a few tough classes, and not enough time all contributed to the false starts.. I'm actually glad I kept trying; apparently the hook didn't quite set fully for me until about the half way mark.
Our hero Tiernan is a knight who, as his dying wish to his inept fairy godmother, asks that he get a job just like hers instead. Our heroine Reina, on the other hand, already is a fairy godmother and finds Tiernan's wish being granted among one of the highest insults to Fairy Godmothers everywhere. There are no Fairy GodFATHERs. Until Tiernan, that is. And Reina appreciates neither his methods nor his apparent lothario ways. And if we're to believe the evidence, more than just Reina doesn't appreciate that Tiernan's position as a Fairy Godfather is unique. It goes as high as the realm's Elf King and the even more powerful Green Man, ultimately resulting in the decision that, despite Tiernan successfully producing happy ENDINGS for 30 years, he hasn't produced a single Happily Ever AFTER (HEA). And if he cannot produce that HEA in short order, he'll be returned to his state immediately prior to his wish being granted. A state which, of course, would result in certain death given that he had been a nearly eviscerated knight when he made the wish to become a fairy godfather in the first place. It's a fantastic setup with great potential.
Unfortunately the setup wasn't quite enough for me to propel me into falling in love with these characters and their story. I'll be honest. I expect to not like a hero or a heroine at the beginning of a book. They do things that annoy me or really anger me. They do things that are reprehensible at times. Or they do things that I just simply wouldn't think of doing. But in a great romance novel, they do them for reasons that they can at least justify and grow from. Showing how they grow out of these things and into the true hero or heroine is what compels me to continue reading page after page. But the simple fact is that neither Tiernan nor Reina quite justified their actions for me. There were several places I stopped to think "wait, how did we get to this again?" Everything was so compact in this story that little of the character development had time to form full fledged and really hook me. I think that this is the major flaw of the book. It wasn't bad writing (it was great, to be honest) or even characterization (also great) that threw me. Honestly it was the scant 81 pages that made up this read.
Ms. Monsch desperately needed to be allowed more space and more time to give us pure, unadulterated character development. I kept thinking that it would happen in a whilea, a little later, and soon. And then I realized exactly how few pages were left in the book and thought that if she was going to get about it, then it had better happen right quick or it wouldn't happen at all. In fact, development for both main characters happened so late in the book that I had to go back and reread the beginning to make sure I hadn't missed an earlier start to it. Yes, there were whispers of it, but barely enough developed that I had utterly dismissed them as trivial to the plot. And that's such a shame. Because the actual ending of the book was exactly how I wanted it. Exactly. I got the happily ever after. Better still, I got the secret little twisty reason Tiernan and Reina were together in the first place that I'd been hoping for all along (brava, Ms. Monsch! Well played on that point).
I understand that there's a certain shallowness that may happen in any book of this short length. But there's a richness of story that always seemed to be lurking out of sight that Ms. Monsch just simply needed more pages to grasp. All the elements were there. But they just didn't have enough time to go much of anywhere, darnitall. I guess the happy ending will have to be enough on this one for me.
Overall assessment? I like the setup and the writing. I hated the length. I'll read more of Ms. Monsch's work, to be sure, but I think I'm going to aim for longer works first to see how that helps the storytelling.

“Tiernan is one of a kind. Beyond the divine dimples, killer blue eyes, and hard muscled body, Tiernan is also the only Fairy Godfather.”
“Amongst Fairy Godmothers, Reina is the best. Organized, efficient, logical.”
Tiernan is about to lose his Godfather status because of his lack of producing HEAs (Happily Ever Afters). Reina is sent with him on his mission to run interference in case the Fairy King tries to sabotage his mission to get Cinderella her HEA. Little do either of them know that Sara, head of all Fairy Godmothers, has a mission of her own to accomplish.
“This surely ain't your momma's version of Cinderella.” I suppose when I read this line in the description I should have suspected, but I didn't. I thought this sounded like a unique spin on the fairy tale Cinderella, and it was. But it was so much more than that. This novella was very entertaining and quite steamy. It also put a new twist into the Fairy Godmother myth that I really enjoyed.
Reina had her heart broken years ago by a man who wielded his charms very much like Tienan does and as a result she erected walls around her heart. Since Reina is his superior, she had to deal with him. Tienan was very popular with all the Fairy Godmothers as you can imagine, since he was the only Fairy Godfather. Having a Fairy Godfather was very controversial in Fairy Land and the Fairy King was looking for a way to be rid of Tienan since he turned down his daughter the Fairy Princess.
With Ms. Monsch’s use of descriptive prose it took no time at all to suspend my disbelief and dive into this story. The plot was creative and moved forward nicely. The dialogue was engagingly witty and meaningful. Reina and Tienan’s relationship became the focal point of this story and their journey had a very human aspect. The twist that the author added to Cinderella’s story was genius as far as I am concerned; it added depth to Cinderella’s character that I appreciated. I think this is an Indie author to watch.
This novella contains explicit sex scenes and adult language.
A small number of proofing errors.

***available in the Once Upon A Fairy Tale collection***
Tiernan is in trouble. His Fairy Godmother led him to the dragon all right, but said dragon caused him a mortal injury and the Fairy Godmother cannot stop feeling sorry for herself instead of helping him...So he makes a wish to be just like her, and he ends up being the only Fairy Godfather in the Faerie Realm, and in love with a fellow Fairy Godmother who'd rather see him gone.
Thirty years later, Reina just might get her wish, since Tiernan is the only FG without a HEA on file. He also got an ultimatum—get a HEA or go back to where he was before his wish was granted. Which means dying. They cannot have that, so Reina is tasked with assisting him in getting Cinderella her HEA...And the girl might not be the only one.
I absolutely loved this story. It had it all, wonderful characters, dimples, humor, magic, a little bit of drama, some conflict, and romance.
Cinderella's was a given (with a little twist), but Tiernan and Reina's held all my attention.
They had the smolder, the attraction, the UST, and the angst and drama, yet the conflict, though not easily and quickly resolved, worked both in creating tension and offering character development and growth, while also serving as additional background for the two characters.
Despite the diminutive length of the story, the plot had depth, the characters were developed nicely, the conflict was resolved at a reasonable speed, there was no rush to/for anything, and yes, the romance was adorable. I was rooting for the two idiots from the get-go, and I'm glad my hunch about FG Sara proved to be right.
A truly lovely little story.

This was a nice story! I liked it a lot more than I thought I would.
I liked how it was the "Fairy Godfather" who helped Cinderella with her crisis of heart, because it's usually the women who are supposed to be the lovey romantic advice givers in stereotypical roles but in this story it fit Tiernan far better than Reina. He had very wise words for her that I think everyone should follow.
I also enjoyed the slight differences to the Cinderella story too, it made the whole thing stand out and not be blah blah blah same same same, it made it it's own story and that was pretty clever in my opinion.
Tiernan was an interesting character! I'd have liked a little more of his past history to round him out a little more as we get a lot of information about Reina and her interesting background in comparison.
And though 30 years seems a long time (perhaps not to fairy god parents) her giving in still seemed to happen pretty fast! If I were able to change anything, I'd have bulked out the start a little more and had a slower give-in period, but getting that to flow with the storyline would probably be pretty hard.
Though only a shortie, it still managed to cover all the main details needed to make a story work and even managed to fit in some pretty steamy stuff! Semi relevant too so it was lucky they were both there!
The sort-of prologue I saw coming, but their new job - that was hilarious!

I was very curious when I saw this novel. I must say that the mix between fairy tales that we know and godmothers were bound to be interesting. I did not know what format it was, but I was surprised to see that it was a fairly short novel, but it’s also nice because we can read the whole thing pretty quickly.
This story highlights two stories in parallel. First, we have the story of Tiernan revolutionizing the world of fairies as it’s only reserved to women. While he wants to keep this new status and thus at the same time win the heart of Reina, a woman who seems determined to avoid him, he will have to work on his first mission. Accompanied by the young woman so she could help him, they will find themselves in the middle of the Cinderella story to help her to get her Happily Ever After. To make her find her prince and finally be happy.
I enjoyed this story and to follow Cinderella in a few moments of her life. She is a young touching girl, shy and innocent, fun to explore. But of course, everything is actually set from the POV of Reina and Tiernan who turn around each other, facing their feelings and who may well discover in each other something more.
So it was a pretty light novel and I’m curious enough to see what tale will be featured in the next volume.

Cute. Fairytale remade for adults, but still has some nods to the "classic" Cinderella story.
Tiernan is a Fairy Godfather because of a wish he made. He now works with the Godmothers and one in particular wishes he were anywhere but with them. Reina isn't a fan, she would rather they had stuck to tradition instead of allowing a Godfather to enter their ranks. Despite her dislike towards him, he still has the eyes for her. They are forced to work together on a very special and important HEA case involving Cinderella, and that's where things get interesting.
Because this is so short, many things felt rushed. As an example, thirty years pass with the reader being none the wiser. The timeline was a little foggy in that regard, since the story is only 59 pages. Another thing that was a little odd was the time period itself. Cinderella (and I'm guessing this story also) was historical, yet the characters talked in a modern fashion, complete with modern day terms. But hey - it's fantasy, it's fiction, the way they enlighten Cinderella was certainly different, and it was fun. All is forgiven, especially since I now know exactly what a "bodice ripper" is (please excuse my stupidity, as I don't ever read anything that fits that category.).

When Tiernan made the wish to be a fairy godfather, he had no idea what it all meant. Reina, one of the head fairies never warmed up to Tiernan, but maybe that’s because she secretly lusted after the unorthodox fairy. Affirming Tiernan among the ranks of fairy godmothers will take him finally giving a human a happily ever after, but to get there will mean letting go of his own dissolutions and maybe even finding his own with the fairy godmother of his dreams.
The love story between Tiernan and Reina was the story to watch. I enjoyed watching their love grow despite their personal issues. I didn’t love the side story with Cinderella nearly as much as the main storyline. Overall, a very interesting and entertaining (oh and steamy) take on the fairy godmother idea. A great story for a reader looking for a steamy fantasy story with a familiar twist.

The knight, Tiernan end ups with an incompetent Fairy Godmother, who gets him killed by a dragon. When’s he’s dying, the only way she can save his life is to grant him a wish. What does he wish for? Well, Tiernan wishes to be a Fairy Godfather. There has never been a fairy Godfather before Tiernan. But the Fairy Godmother’s don’t’ mind, they are smitten with him, all except Reina. She continues to push for his relocation. When it looks like Tierman may finally have to leave the Fairy Godmothers it’s not in the way Reina expected. She doesn’t want to see Tiernan die. So to help save him and help him keep his Fairy Godfather status she must assist him in creating a Happy Ever After for a mortal client. The lady they need to help is none other than, Cinderella. But Cinderella and her prince aren’t the only couple who may end up with a Happy Ever After. Tiernan and Reina may be headed for an HEA as well.
This is brilliant. So creative and darling. An enchanting romance with some hot love scenes. I strong recommend Loving A Fairy Godmother. It’s absolutely dreamy.

Tiernan is the only Fairy Godfather in the business. Thirty years after his wish has made him the only Fairy Godfather in the business, the Elf King has ordered him to produce an HEA or be returned to his human form, which is seconds from dying! Reina is assigned to assist him in reaching the HEA for Cinderella, but not to interfere. After thirty years of waiting, Tiernan is ready to win two HEAs.
This was a re-spun telling of the classic Cinderella story with more of an emphasis on the Fairy Godmother and the Godfather. I love retellings. This was no exception. As always, I love Ms. Monsch’s stories. The takes such an unique twist on the fairy tales that she presents that you almost forget the Disney version!
Editing: B - only a few errors

Oh my! A HOT very original retold Cinderella Fairy Tale! I'll never think of Cinderella the same again! Danielle Monsch's imagination truly knows no bounds! I was totally blown away by her story-telling and the tale's twists and turns left me in awe!
This book introduces us to Tiernan, a knight, who is in the process of dying thanks to his incompetent fairy godmother. She grants him one last wish and his wish is to become a fairy godfather. He is granted that wish and interns under Reina, who obviously doesn't think he should be a godfather. You HAVE to read this to see what happens next!
This was the 1st book that I'd ever read by Danielle and it certainly won't be the last as I'm hooked now on her writing style, humor and ingenuity!
4 STARS!!!!!

This was a great read! Danielle Monsch weaves a tale that wraps the reader in her world. Her views on the godmother/father story are interesting and a breath of fresh air. The way she bypasses the typical fairytale world and thoughts is engaging. I really liked Tiernan and Reina’s journey! If you’re looking for a different fairytale that will leave you hot for more then you’ll love this book!

I really struggled over whether to give this a three or a four. So it's actually 3.5.
The bad: It was a concept that didnt grip me. The fairy godmother land isnt gone into enough to make you care and I nearly stopped reading a couple of times.
The good: It's well written, I definitely got that Tiernan was a man we all want, you cant help falling for him. Reina is also very likable and it's obvious how they both feel.
Overall, I just wish I was a bit more smitten than I was. I liked the ending very much so I'm glad I finished it.

Excellent read!
Parts of the story felt rushed, but even at novella length it was complete. Handsome knight, stubborn fairy godmother. Absolutely fun, with the right amount of drama to keep it interesting.
A few typos, things like an instead of and.
The only bad note, the characters used a short hand and while it only took a minute to figure out, if they had started them in Tiernan's perspective the explanation could have been included.
Over all excellent story, I would highly recommend this.

Very interesting short story from a Fairy Godmothers POV. I really enjoyed this and cannot wait to read the rest of the series. The only thing I didn't like is that it was too short and because of that I was a little lost in the beginning. I didn't realize that Tiernans training took 30 years and that he had feelings for Reina the entire time.
The sex was great and I really liked both characters. I also loved the Cinderella twist.
