Any book written by Mike Resnick draws rather black & white responses from the readers. Those who like his stuff (who are numerous, evident from the staggeringly large no. of awards won by him) can’t have enough of him; those who finds his efforts at humour to be more slapstick than desirable scream “cease & desist” (without much use, obviously, since Mr Resnick continues to be one of the most prolific authors of our times) after his books come out. The present collection is very interesting because, despite being a seemingly monochrome collection of humourous science-fiction/fantasy stories (the idea has been sought to be emphasised through the cover and title as well), it actually portrays a large spectrum of emotions, landscapes, and humanity. Several of these stories are surprisingly poignant & delicate, while some are scathingly satirical while being unapologetic about their orientation towards the fans. I disliked only one story, which I found to be either too experimental or too lazy. I felt bored by the John Justin Mallory stories once the initial shocks wore off. But the rest I loved, and intend to revisit whenever I feel like going to bed with a chuckle. Highly Recommended.

Mike Resnick is one of my favorite authors. His stories range from science fiction, Fantasy, Detective, hell he does it all. This story collection shows he can do it all. Mainly picked this up for " blue nosed reindeer" but found two more "John Justin Mallory" stories. One of my favorite characters overall. Besides those three stories here are my note worthy reads.
A Little Night Music
Beibermann's Soul
Revolt of the Sugar Plum Fairies
The Summer of My Discontent
The Trials and Tribulations of Myron Blumberg, Dragon
* A must read for all*
