Book 1 in the Oath series Sharon took an oath at the idealistic age of eighteen to mate with an unknown alien from another planet, never expecting the alien to actually show up and invoke it eleven years later. A librarian with a love for the orderly and ordinary, she prefers a calm, quiet existence. Surprises are life's way of indicating you did not plan well enough. Adventures are for people with more guts than sense. And sex, well, it's okay, but nothing to get too worked up over. Liken is a warrior cop from Shimeria. He is six feet seven inches of walking, talking sex personified. Having been inside Sharon's head he knows her deepest fantasies, and knows that she is the perfect mate for him. But first he has to seduce her...
Award-winning author Marly Chance lives with her husband and young son in a small Tennessee town where truth is always stranger than fiction. She believes firmly in happy endings, chocolate, family and good friends.
When not writing, she stays busy persuading her toddler that the coffee table was not actually designed to be a trampoline or a teething toy. Her hobbies include reading, bowling and playing poker.
Okay, someone has been borrowing ideas from this author (Evangeline Anderson Claimed book)Claimed. Men from space come to Earth to find brides because there are hardly any women. They have the claiming period where they're allowed to kiss one day, touch over clothes the next and so on. Same as Claimed. Sharon is a librarian that doesn't want to leave her friends and job. Same as Claimed. This book was written in 2002 and Claimed was written in 2011. I liked this book much better. I couldn't stand the heroine in Claimed.
The reason I even got this book was that someone had said in a review for Claimed that she had read this book which was similar and better and she was correct.
If you have read any of the Kindred Bride series this is very similar. However, I did like this book better. I liked that the women had a choice to sign up for the draft where in the Kindred they were drafted. Second, I liked Sharon I could relate to her because she loves books, is afraid of heights and very ticklish. I loved that she was relatable. I probably would have even given this book five stars just on that alone even though the hero was really "Alpha." The only scene that I had a huge problem with was towards the end. Going to have a small Spoiler here ***** Sharon walks in on her man kissing some strange girl and she walks away to cool off. The dude gets all mad that she doesn't let him explain right away. Then sexually punishes her for hurting him. Hello he was kissing some strange woman!! Like seriously!! Grrrr!!! Anyway, that made me mad but other than that worth the read. I have started the second one just because I want to know how Kate falls.
Reread - I miss Elora’s Cave, it did not roll with Amazon and got rolled over. Some of these dear little works of classic smut are now hard to find. I hope Marly Chance is still alive and writes book three for her fans.
This is a short hot story I read years ago that did not disappoint as a midnight reread. The simplistic scifi backstory only makes me like it more.
I read several reviews saying that the "Brides of the Kindred" series was a poorly written rip off of this author's work, and having enjoyed the first two Kindred books I had to give this a try... never should have done it.
I tried to force myself to read, but I couldn't and abandoned it a little over half way through the book. I didn't come to like any of the characters, found the dialogue awkward, and really really really hated the "sherree" endearment.
I'll stick to my Kindred books thank you very much!
Aun asi me gusto mucho!
This is one of those books where if you are not into sharing..... you dont want to read it. Their relationship is rocky at best, then you add a best friend, talk about hot steamy sex. Again this is also one of those times where the story was good until the end, but nothing special.
I came across this book and it's follow up in a Charity shop, intrigued as the premise sounded very similar to Brides of the Kindred I couldn't resist. This is a story written much earlier than Ms Anderson's series. But the similarities are almost identical.
Sharon had signed up at 18 years old on the register to make herself a available for a mating with the alien race her government had entered into an agreement with to provide brides for the males from Shimeria. In exchange the Shimerians provided their advance knowledge and technology in exchange. Women were scarce on their planet.
After signing up, Sharon had never given it much thought in the next 11 years, until Liken a Shimerian warrior cop comes to claim her. Deeply shocked and horrified Sharon tries to think of ways to get out of the situation she now finds herself in. But there's no escape for this nerdy, quiet librarian. Before she can take a breath she's whisked away to Shimeria with Liken insisting that she's his forever.
I liked this story even though it lacked the world building that Ms Anderson's series possesses. I liked the characters even if Sharon being a quiet little librarian was a bit cliched. Liken was all alpha male and at times left Sharon feeling as though she'd been run over by a freight train. The sex is hot and very passionate. Sharon adjusting to life in this alien world was at the heart of this story and on the whole it was well done.
Grace Goodwin writes a similar series and Evangeline Anderson totally ripped off this story in her Brides of the Kindred series. Marley Chance did it best. I have the version that was published through Ellora's Cave. The cover sucked. The story was great. The characters didn't exactly have insta love but their relationship moved fast. I loved the characters. I look forward to reading the next book.
Meh... It had the same setup as brides of the kindred but the alien society was a lot less appealing and the story not as engaging. I kept on wishing that the heroine was going drop the alien on his ass and return to earth. I sooooo wanted it to happen... but I guess you can't make everyone happy with a plot twist like that. Too much build up to the HEA... Oh, well. Maybe next time.

After reading several other similar themed books, I figured I would give this a try. Terrible! I could not finish the story. The dialogue is not only slow but awkward. The characters lack depth, and personality. The plot has potential but is completely ruined by a sorely lacking author. Don't waste your time.
I went back and forth a lot on this book. Quite honestly, I was kind of worn out by the end in the pendulum it sent me through. I forgot Liken is a bit of an asshole. He may have understood humans due to the classes and all his race went through. His classes must not have been too detailed to cover the concept we have of sudden drastic changes in our lives like Sharon had to undergo because of her agreeing to this oath she took. Sharon also told him she didn't remember much about what she was told about of his kind. He could have helped her better accept his world by explaining things a little more, rather than being a barbarian and simply expecting her to accept everything because she was to be his pactmate. It made him, and his book, have to work a lot harder than it needed to for me to enjoy it fully. A few times I wanted him to have to undergo a testicular retrieval in how much of a jerkface he was being. Every hear of culture shock, sweetums? Sharon had a mega case of it for much of the book and I don't feel Liken did a lot, at first, to help her with it. Also, us little humans don't really like having someone go wandering through our minds without the one who's supposed to be a hero explaining why this is a part of "the deal" we get and we simply have to accept it. Basically, I wanted to punch Liken in the nose a lot. There is a little too much telling in the book and not enough showing, probably due to the its shortness but this also takes out a lot of worldbuilding so one simply has to decide what an alien world looks like with the lack of true description other than what the moons do to humans. The book is a little rushed as well and everything wrapped up a bit too easily. I've also decided on another word I don't like in love scenes: spewing. I associate that word with vomit or spitting one's drink all over the place. Using it to describe a guy's climax... Just ick. All right, I'm ranting and should probably stop now. I did finally settle in to enjoy the book, when Liken matured from arrogant baboon to someone who actually cares about Sharon and her feelings. I'm curious enough to read the next book to see Tair taken down about nine pegs when he's faced with Kate due to the big build up done in this book about it though.
I enjoyed the book enough to follow up by reading the next, Oath of Challenge. I wish the author had finished the series, but it's evident she will not. Sharon is a mousy woman, who gets taken to fulfill her oath to allow a Shimerian man to try to convinced her to pledge with him. Here, pledge means marry. Her man, Liken, has lots of sexual experience (she does not, although she's not a virgin, thank God). He's got a legal timetable for enforced intimacy that is way too precipitate, three days to total intercourse. He's psychic, so no thought of hers is private, meanwhile she's not able to read his mind. Naturally, he's possessive, dominant, pushy, underhanded, and demands her trust at every turn. But then, Shimerians have to make a law out of this linking thing, which they consider natural and protective, and it's only possible to achieve through a group sex encounter. (Huh?) This inexplicably does not cause jealousy on the guy's part, and is then followed by a forced closeness between the linked partner and the woman--I mean, he demands an intimate kiss in greeting! Earth woman have such a predictably bad reaction to this that Shimerians don't warn them of it in advance. But, hey, it's so natural and obvious it has to be codified into law? And Sharon is a pushover, whenever Liken puts the moves on her, she falls instantly into his thrall. The end has her demonstrating her 'trust' in him enough to 'lose control'. This particular episode was inexplicable to me since the preceding argument had to do with control of herself and her actions--not falling to pieces or raging in public. But Liken's demand following this, in a sort of demonstration of trust and punishment, was a voluntary loss of control over their sex play, e.g. a dominance/submissive thing. Totally different, in my opinion. The HEA ending had Sharon being a totally reformed woman. Not that she needed reforming.

"Look, I know we're supposed to be getting engaged, but could you maybe find another fiancée? I can't have screaming sex with you. I'm just a librarian, for goodness sake. " I knew I had found a jewel when this greeted me before the first page was turned! "Seducing Sharon" was just the right amount of humor, angst and out-of-this-world, smokin' hot sexiness to satisfy this reader's SFR-loving heart. Sharon was a dyed-in-the-wool, uptight librarian unaware of her own appeal and too buttoned up to explore it. Sexy alien, Liken was just the male to undo those buttons and let the real Sharon shine. It was a pleasure for this reader to watch the undressing!
This reminds of Claimed a lot. Both having to do with alien men (from a planet with not enough females) coming to Earth for mates. Both books have an agreement between planets about how this is done that is remarkably similar. This one was way beter, I couldn't finish Claimed. The heroine got on my last nerve. I had to put the book down. I'll be looking for more from Marly Chance.
Laughed and rolled my eyes at the whole linking thing. The sex scenes were good, story was a bit "out there" but a fun way to lose a few hours. These books were short.
Looking forward to the 3rd installment if the author ever gets around to writing it............
I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!!! This is my new favorite genre; sci-fi erotica. Wow! This book was such a pleasure to read. It was written really well. No wonder it received rewards. I can't wait to start the next book.
One of the first erotic/futuristic/aliens coming to Earth looking for brides stories. It doesn't rehash those that have just come out recently; it sets the stage (along with Jaid Black's Trek series) for all those other books to follow. Spicy hot!
The story is nice. Although I'm quite bewildered about the shimerian customs, its quite a good and hot story for sure. I love the part that Sharon opened herself sexually and emotionally to Liken in the end...
Creo que es un libro que podría pulirse más. Tiene buena trama y buen argumento aunque hay escenas en las que sólo quiero darle un golpe a TODOS. Pero mundos fuera de esta galaxia siempre me han ENAMORADO
Liked this one so much more than the other one. The females were similar but this one wasn't as annoying, still annoying for all the jumping to conclusions and purposely holding herself back, but at least she wasn't always trying to be hurt the guy and didn't try to be a bitch all the time.
