When Gemma's best friend moves away, Gemma feels like she'll never be able to replace her. To cheer her up, her parents get her a kitten - a gorgeous tortoiseshell who she calls Gypsy. Gypsy quickly settles into her new home, and can't wait to go out for the first time and explore. But little does she know that a neighbour's two cats are determined to scare off the new arrival, and soon poor little Gypsy is frightened to go out at all. Will Gemma be able to find a way to help her beloved kitten?
Holly Webb is one of Britain's best-loved children's writers. She has written over a hundred books for children, and her work has been translated into over thirty languages. Holly lives in Tilehurst, just outside of Reading, Berkshire, with her husband, three children and several cats.
My daughter loves these books this one especially with its cute kitten that gets bullied by the next door neighbours cats and gets lost. Luckily his little girl owner doesn't give up and finds him in a derelict garden.
(With thanks to Toppsta and Stripes for the opportunity to read and review this book)
While not my favourite subject matter, really beautifully written and would be magical for kids who love cats. Also subtly deals with the topics of loneliness, friends moving away and responsible pet ownership.
When Maddy’s best friend Kate moves to a new home Maddy’s parents finally decide that she can have a kitten. Maddy loves her new kitten who she names Cookie, but the cats next door don’t like her. And one day Cookie runs away, will Maddy ever find her? Cute story
It had a good message to it, that cats should be spayed and neutered and that their outside time should be monitored. I was worried for a moment because it seemed to promote letting cats go outside and wander, but they fixed that problem by the end of the story!
Some parts were a bit upsetting for a children’s book, such as the kitten being injured pretty badly and nearly getting ran over. It was definitely upsetting.
I do like how it was a realistic portrayal of a kitten being afraid! I feel like this would be a good book for young cat lovers to read.
Sweet story of a girl who's best friend moves away. Her parents agree that this is a good time to get her the kitten she has wanted. Then the kitten goes missing and this leads to finding a new friend.
The story was good and children will enjoy it. Drove me crazy that the story kept saying the girl wanted a tortoiseshell kitten and that the litter had 2 of them. But what the author described was a calico. This continued for a couple of chapters then was not mentioned again. The kitten on the cover is a calico. How did this escape editors/proof readers?
I like this book because it is about cute kittens and I love cute ones, not big bad ones.
The best part is when Maddy gets a kitten and names it Biscuit , she gets comfort with her but she still misses her friend Kate because Kate had left her old house which was next to Maddy's and they used to go to the same school!
Większość książek z tej serii, które dotychczas czytałam jest napisana w bardzo podobny sposób, niczym nie zaskakują, ale są bardzo przyjemne i szybko się je czyta.
Very cute! No wonder my little girls love this series. Interesting note. The summary says the kitten's name is Gypsy. I bought my copy in England last summer, and the cat's name is Biscuit. Wonder why the change. Anyway, cute series.
