Her brethren at the Soul Society are quite displeased with the fact that she transferred the powers of a Soul Reaper to a human and have dispatched two of their strongest agents to neutralize the situation. Their mission is twofold: to return Rukia to the Soul Society so that she may pay for her crime and to deal with Ichigo--permanently. But an unlikely third party is standing in their way: Uryû Ishida, the Quincy!

The start to one of the best running arcs that Bleach has to offer. This omnibus mostly consists of wordbuilding, with important character and location introductions. There's action, there's heart, but there are also a lot of moments which feel like filler. Bleach has never felt like the tightest or most precise shonen when it comes to narrative direction, and that's unfortunately rather prominent during the earlier volumes. However, it's still fun and a perfectly enjoyable read.

✰ 4.5 STARS ✰

MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD

These volumes continue to exhibit what I've been loving about Bleach as a whole. Both heartwarming and tense moments mixed in with the humor.

Ichigo is still running into situations with the same bull headed tenacity, not giving up on those he calls friends. But, the stakes are higher - even with having put Menos Grandes in the past. We have a ton of characters introduced to us as we enter the soul society and the familiar ones are learning to improve themselves. (Also, Hello there, Hollow Ichigo!)

Probably my favourite part in the omnibus, however brief is Yuichi and Chad's reunion, 'cause that part wrecked me back in Volume 2! Also, how can I forget Zangetsu! Those chapters were kinda wild!

Apart from having a little trouble with remembering the 'Who's Who' of Soul society, this is right there at the top with my favourite volumes. And I'm definitely anticipating the unravelling of the mystery and politics among the Soul Reapers in the next volumes.

I'm so pumped to read this manga. Totally not bc of the new season currently airing. This story brings me back to easier times when I originally watched the anime.
The worldbuilding is starting to develop and I forgot a lot of the story so I'm glad I'm revisiting in another format.
Training arc + soul society = iconic arc.

THis is a good part of the book because in the first part it that we leave off from vol. 6 when Ichigo is in a hole that has been dug so far down that you can't get out of by trying to climb the sides. Ichigo gets out with a Soul Reapers out fit and a hollows mask on. With only five days left of training he goes one on one with Mr. Hat a Clugs. After that Ichigo and the others go to the Soul society and try to get in but fails on getting in

This book introduces the Soul Society arc, where Ichigo and the gang goes to the Seireitei to save Rukia from getting executed for giving her powers to Ichigo. We’re introduced to Renji Abarai and Byakuya Kuchiki, two soul reapers assigned to bring Rukia back to the Soul Society, but before they could, they are stopped by Uyru, the Quincy that hates soul reapers.

Rukia left a message for Ichigo to not follow her, and thanks to Kon…he goes after her. Only to lose the fight between Renji and Byakuya, who stabbed him and took away his soul reaper powers. Ichigo was taken care of by ‘hat and clogs’ Urahara, who basically trained to be a soul reaper again, while Mr. Yourichi trained Chad and Orihime, and Uyru trained by himself, to be stronger.

Now the training was quite brutal. First, Ichigo had to get his soul reaper powers back, and boy that was the most painful things I’ve ever read, ever. He also learned the name of his zanpakuto, which is called Zangetsu, and once he learned the name and released his powers, that’s when he and Urahara trained until it was time for them to go to the Soul Society. Everyone-Ichigo, Orihime, Chad, and Uyru spends a summer in town before they go to Mr. Urahara’s shop to go to the Soul Society, and being led by Mr. Yourichi, they go into this gate Urahara constructed to let them go into the first part of the Soul Society, a long tunnel filled with dark things that are getting cleaned up by a huge train…

…that Orihime rejected, thus putting the gang in front of the gates of the Seireitei. Guarding the gates is a guardian named Jibando, and he and Ichigo fought, resulting in Ichigo’s victory. But it was short lived, when Gin Ichimaru appeared and pretty much killed Jibando, and Ichigo tried to stop it, but it didn’t work as he was knocked back, and the gate slammed down on them.

So they went to a village filled with lost souls, and Ichigo and a man named Ganju nearly got into it, but was stopped when he and his huge boar had to go home. Even though they thanked the elder and Chad met his pet parakeet again (who was a boy, which was cute and sweet at the same time), and they went to see Kukaku…which turns out to be Ganju’s sister, and who’s also an explosives expert.

Her plan? To launch them in the air to put them in the Soul Society.

Sounds like fun…but will our heroes enjoy it?!

It feels like I’m watching the show again, but much better. It was fun to see Renji, Byakuya and the others. I can’t wait to read the next volumes because it’s reigniting my love for Bleach again.

The beginning of a new arc story! Rukia has been arrested by two Soul Reapers - Renji Abarai, assistant captain of the sixth company and her brother, Byakuya Kuchiki, captain of the sixth company. When Ichigo not able to save Rukia, he wanted to be strong. Kisuke Urahara offers help to train Ichigo while Orihime and Chad were being trained by a mysterious black cat known as Mr. Yoruichi. Uryu soon trains on his own after a shameful defeat. As the training became a success, Kisuke opens the gateway to the Soul Society, where Ichigo and gang enters and meets Gin Ichimaru, captain of the third company and Ichigo knows the difference in strength and power. Meanwhile, Rukia has been sentenced to death in 25 days by the council of the Soul Society.

Bleach 3-in-1 Vol.3 begins with a new arc after the introduction of the first dozen volumes. While many new things are reveal about zanpaku-to (the sword wielding weapon by Soul Reapers), the Soul Society and new characters are introduced to a bigger setting of the Bleach universe, I can't help it that other supporting characters are no longer important to the story. Although this is another step on the main opening of a major storyline, so far the pacing is still good with the artwork has been a slight improvement. Overall, this is where Bleach finally has its first major arc story starting with this one.

THE NEXT PHASE OF BLEACH BEGINS WITH THE THREAT OF EXECUTION!

The third Bleach Omnibus came out swinging with one of my favorite introductions of a character, ever. Renji as well, sure, who I do like, but I have remembered the first scenes with Kuchiki Byakuya since I was barely more than a kid watching the anime for the first time.

It serves as an incredible point of change for the story as a greater world is revealed, full of foes far greater than anything our protagonist and company have ever faced. The story moves forward as the wheels of the greater plot begin to turn. Which moves into the almost compulsory Shonen training arc - I’m pretty sure if you know Shonen manga, you would know that it was coming eventually!

The tension and expansion of the world combine to propel Bleach into a fantastic beginning for future arcs to come, although it does come at the expense of a lot of time spent setting the stage. It’s why I would just say this was a good volume, not necessarily one of the best.

For me, however, there’s nothing wrong with that! It’s what I expect from a manga as long-running as Bleach. It allows us the time to get to know a lot of new characters before shoving us into the next story beat with zero time to acclimate! It simply equates to a slightly lower star rating.

After all, there’s plenty of violence and momentum soon to come!

This 3-in-1 basically has a good volume, a fine volume, and a dud. Doesn't quite break down that way exactly on the volume lines, but close enough. The fine volume is the one where we enter the SOul Society plotline, where we begin with Rukia being "arrested" for lack of a better term. We get a decent fight we aren't super invested in, and some pretty solid plot escalation. The good volume comes next, being one of the better training arcs I've seen in a pretty good while (not that I've really seen anymore in a while...), but it's memorable, and Kisuke's always been a pocket favorite, from the design to the lackadaisical demeanor, and the ability to kick any ass he really needs to, he's just a fun character to be around. And then the dud. I don't really like their introduction to the Soul Society. Jindanbo is fun, but beyond that, it's pretty medicore. And I really dislike the boar-riders. Kukaku is a fun mirror for Ichigo though. Overall it gets a 3.5 from me, but I know we're about to really get into the meat of this series, and what most conosider the best arc (which is a little disheartening considering I'm just about to start vol. 10 of 74.)

So I started watching bleach a couple of years ago, and where this one left off at, they’re in the soul society and such. That is exactly where I left off and I got to say I don’t remember any of it.
I remember them Ichigo, and chad and everyone else getting to the soul society and fighting the giant but I don’t remember anything before that. What I mean is ichigo getting his soul reaper abilities back, like his training stuff, I literally have no memory of. And if it did happen I wish I remembered it, but I feel like it did it.
Not gonna lie though reading the manga hypes me up way more and I’m enjoying it a lot better. No hate to the anime, the soundtrack is bomb but like the manga hits different.
Overall I really really enjoyed this volume. So I will be picking up the next volume shortly to read.

Training montage. Those words "training montage" are the best way to describe the three volumes contained in this 3-in-1 collection. Ichigo trains his powers for hundreds of pages. It is actually kind of interesting. But then we arrive in the soul society and suddenly Ichigo turns into that dumb red haired punk thug everyone in the real world thinks he is. He just starts fighting people not check to see if they are friend or foe. If not for the screaming and dumb fights this would have rated more stars. I guess it is "funny"?
Oh we also get some foreshadowing from the bad guys who have some kind of plan. Turns out they should have just killed the heroes when they had the chance.

Really cool.

I forgot everything in this. It’s well done.

The pacing is a little fast though. The constant battles is a bit weird but it works, considering the circumstances.

I’m not a fan of the extras. They waste my time. Why read the mediocre extras when you can read the well done actual story?

I forgot how nice Ichigo is. Yes, he’s really cool. But he’s actually genuinely nice and thoughtful. I feel that the character development is a bit deeper than that, but not much. We'll have to see.

Yûichi is ADORABLE!! I forgot about him (whoops).

Yes now this is an adventure. I love the group that was assembled for this mission, very likable. I am interesting and hoping to see more about the soul society captains, they seem powerful and unique. Still don’t understand how Rukia deserves the death penalty for what she did, kinda of a stretch. The soul society is such an amazing concept, I am satisfied with the results after so much discussion about it. This series only gets better and better. Expecting a big confrontation next issue.

Re-reading this book makes me remember how good this series was. From start to finish, it is one of the best manga, period. Pick it up if you like good writing, good art, or just a good story. The work done in this volume specifically is impressive. Kubo builds a world, but isnt satisfied with that, he builds two more too. Look forward to great things, so many of them are here, beginning in these pages. Fantastic!

Urahara’s training is so vague! Lol. I really wonder what the “proper” way to become a soul reaper is, and if Urahara meant for Ichigo to become a vizard. As a long time anime only fan I hope these questions get answered.
I think it’s interesting that Chad calls Uryu the “most fragile” out of their group.

We hit the ground running with this volume.

Stakes were raised. We get a lot more info about soul society and shinigami's in this volume without it feeling like an info dump. Worked seamlessly into the story.

As always, the story is emotional but there is just enough humor worked in to balance it all out. Also less juvenile feel to the manga now, which I am glad for.

Bring on volume 4.

The first two volumes are 5 stars for me, I really loved how the story was built and grew adding to the lore of Bleach basic components. I liked a little bit less volume 9, but overall the omnibus is amazing!

Rukia, realises her gigai is getting slower. She has to leave Ichigo because she doesn't want to get him involved. Soul society sends two soul reapers to retrieve her - she is labled a traitor. Enters my favourite character - Byakuya (Rukia's brother) Ichigo's life will change forever.

At this point in the series, it really feels like Kubo has hit his stride. The characterizations seem more consistent, and it’s just fun to watch all the pieces start to fall into place.
