Do you sometimes wonder why you can never seem to save any money? When you do get a little bit ahead, does an emergency inevitably come up that takes away your savings and then some? Do you sometimes wonder where your money went - and how you will meet all of your financial obligations? If you are worried about your financial problems, or even of you feel that you are already good at managing your money but would like to be even better, you will want to read this book. Most people know how important it is to manage their money wisely. But most budget books are cumbersome and overly technical. And computerized budgeting systems are complex and temperamental. This book presents a simple, easy-to-use, and effective system that makes budgeting as easy as writing a check.
James P. Christensen was our Stake President years ago and on Every 5th Sunday in a month, he would combine R.S. and Priesthood meetings into a budget and finance lesson. The lessons were extremely good. This book is a great reminder of those classes and I use it as a reference manual now. My husband and I have used parts of this system for most of our married life and I can surely say, if you are committed and willing to follow the advice, it does work.
I was not as impressed with this book as I hoped to be. I guess I should have felt warned by the fact that the friend that let me have it is a self proclaimed financial book geek and he still gave it to me. Actually I think that it was an okay book and I liked some of it's principals I just didn't see the system it proposed as better than what I have now.
This makes budgeting easy and doable, which is a great motivation for those who don't like doing it at all. A compelling story to go along with the principles this book encourages one to really apply budgeting to make life feel a lot happier. That's the richness I've found out of this book. A real gem!
Helpful resource to guide you along to a debt free life. This book isn't actually a get rich quick book it is basically how to be rich or your income. Hence Rich On ANY Income!
I don't know what I thought this book would be, but it definitely was not it. It is more a book introducing a specific budgeting system. There were some pieces of information, but wasn't terribly helpful for us overall.
If you start the process in this book early, as I did in 1998, and keep doing it as your income rises you will always have a good handle on your money. I highly recommend this book!
I read this book for a college course in personal finances. It was an easy read with easy an easy to understand philosophy behind it. My main complaint with reading the book in 2008, and I think the complaint still stands for 2015, is that few people, save those who are in the forties, fifties or older carries a check book anymore. I pay my bills online and buy groceries and other items with a debit card. A new revised edition would be great to address modern changes in how people handle their money.
The principles presented in this book are great but the delivery format is dated , and frankly a bit sexist now. The tools focus on the use of a checkbook and register at a time when most people no longer write checks and instead use debit cards. Additionally the examples drone on for a bit after you've gotten the concept.
I do like the 60/20/20 plan for savings but this doesn't factor in retirement accounts, health savings accounts, flex spending accounts and other financial tools available today. The book could use an overhaul.
Nothing wrong with it to get three starts. It is sound advice and an easy read but very simplistic. Might be a 5 star book if your unfamiliar with budging etc.
