I could not put it down. Even better than the first. Cruelty has no limits. I would hope he destroyed the money and let the case rest. There was too much evil with Roy. It was sad that Danny had to die. It would have been a great twist is Roy had died and Danny claimed his undercover work on his own. Great book,
Book two in the Detective Clay Randall series. Following a shootout on a beach, Detective Clay Randall and his team start to investigate. The same two names keep cropping up, a defense lawyer - Tony Savoy, an ex-cop Roy Connor. Full of twists and turns.
I read Bruce Thomason's first novel Body Toll and enjoyed the storyline and the refreshing reality of his Characters. I'm always a bit timid to pick up a new author's second novel, but was delighted when I read The Six O'Clock Rule. The same amazing characters came back to bring on an even more involved and intense novel. This was a real page turner. Clay Randall introduces a new character his best friend, Danny Malone, and through a roller-coaster of twists, turns, and spirals, their friendship is tested to new heights. It seemed ever chapter was luring the reader to the next without being too over the top. I read a lot of detective novels, but I honestly couldn't put this one down. I can't wait for the next one to come out. Thanks Bruce for a wonderful ride with The Six O'Clock Rule.
From the police department Policy Manual: "Prior to taking any action, both professionally as well as personally, all employees should consider the following: If your action becomes the lead story on the six o'clock news, - Will you be proud? - Will your police department and your community be proud? - Will your family and friends be proud? " Thomason creates a fast paced story inspired by this rule. We follow Clay and Danny two police officers who are friends from high school. Danny is undercover and a bit impulsive. Clay is steady and plays by the rules. Danny, an ex-cop turned criminal assists a wealthy lawyer set up a huge drug syndicate. Clay and Danny get enmeshed in the murders that are a result. A moment of weakness, the 6 0'clock rule is broken. This is a solid page turner.
I guess I've been reading too many better books lately. This one seemed amateurish by comparison. I really did try to get into it, but life's too short to waste too much time. I just couldn't bear with the rambling flow, predictable plot and characters in this book. I'm sure some people will like it, or put up with it until they like it, but I'm moving on . . . .
Just terrible! Weirdly plotted and wayyyyy too much back story to supposedly prepare you for what's about to happen. More focus on the "bad" guy than the hero. Very inconsistent characterization and the plot jumped around quite a bit. Seemed to be trying too hard.
I did not like this book. It was very predictable and not believable in spots. Writing and characters were not well developed. Definietly not something I would recommend.
Detective Clay Randall investigates a murder in this beachside town. Several other killings lead back to the local police department. Good plot & characters. Gave it a 4.0
