Needed a quick, fun read after finishing a big book - I read The Unremembered by Peter Orullian years ago and really looked forward to reading this first short story set in the world he created. This was a solid 3 1/4 stars, I’m looking forward to reading the other stories Peter wrote in this world!
Another WOW! This short story gives a lot more background to "The Unremembered". It also works great as a stand alone. The author definitely has a way with words. His writing flows well and manages in a very short time to completely draw you in. It is so nice to read a book that is actually written well - Peter Orullian is a superb author. I've actually read this story several times - and will probably read it again. Though it has nothing to do with the writing - I love the artwork for this book (and the others) as well. Would love to actually have a hard copy of this on my bookshelf.
A very interesting insight to the events leading up to those in Peter's novel The Unremembered. This one really helps the reader understand some of the events that lead up to the novel. Read the next short story 'The Great Defense of Layosah' for a powerful emotional tie to the novel. Both are intended to be stand alone, but I imagine that I will give greater understanding to what is happening in the novel.
Having read three of the available short stories (while waiting for my library to acquire Unremembered), I am still not sure I understand this world Orullian has built, but I am getting there. Has some of the best things I love about epic fantasy.
