Celestine Prophecy #4

The Twelfth Insight: The Hour of Decision

Rate this book
On December 21, 2012, the Mayan calendar will end. Many see it as an apocalyptic sign. But is it?In The Twelfth Insight, the long-awaited fourth book in the beloved Celestine Series, we again follow our Hero and his close friend Wil. They have just received a portion of another ancient and mysterious manuscript that describes a secret approach to spirituality that is silently arriving in the second decade of the 21st Century. But the manuscript is only available in fragments. To understand its full meaning for mankind, our Hero and Wil begin an urgent search to find the message in its entirety. As they embrace the power of Synchronicity and begin their search, they are confronted by powerful political forces and religious extremists that stand in the way of these spiritual revelations. Utilizing what he calls the "parable effect," and based on his own sources, James Redfield explores the similarities and differences that exist among the world religions, revealing the essential messages contained within them that can energize our experience of spirituality-- and produce a new wave of integrity and reform that can transform our lives and our world.

This is the most important book I will read all year; if not ever! WOW. Completely amazing. This is another book that I wish I could just stand on the street corner and hand out copies to everyone who passes by! I have already given it as a gift to a couple of family members and I keep telling everyone about it. This book is a fictionalized adventure that illustrates very real spiritual themes and realities. I love the adventure format because it keeps you engaged and interested in the plot and process, while learning some really important spiritual lessons along the way. I adored this book. I highlighted so many passages as I read; there is a lot of crucial, meaningful material here. There isn't anything I could say that would do this book justice; it is something you have to read and experience for yourself!

what can I say- Redfield's books have been a major influence to my own beliefs and understanding of this world and his new book does no different. his book couldn't have come out at a better time and my reading of it confirmed and furthered my own feelings. I have passed this book on to several friends and we have all benefited from his insights and have been able to take his ideas a step further in our own practices. for those who have never read his books this book is a wonderful review of the other insights as well as adding new information. it's a good feeling to know someone is out there writing about the knowledge many of us already know and practice and bring it to the people.

Overall, James Redfield is and continues to be one of my most favorite authors. However, nobody is perfect.

Unfortunately, I was very disappointed in this book. I had waited for years for another Redfield book to come out and what a waste of time!
On the onset, this book lacked the zeal and the energy that you experienced and felt in his other books.

The other books took you on a journey – while Our Hero traveled the world experiencing different spiritual dimensions, you, as a reader paralleled this journey in your mind.
However, this book took you in too many directions, first in Arizona, then in Egypt. Also, given that our character has evolved over the last 2 decades years (with the first book published in 1992), I would have liked to know how he integrated the Insights into his life journey. I did not read to the end, but it seemed as though he still was floating along in his career (if he has this amount of random time off in this economy – he must be in between jobs). And obviously, he was unmarried and had no children, as he never referred to any such family. What ever happened to Charlene? Margorie? In the first book, he was in between careers and still unable to get into relationships. Now, 20 years later, it is uninspiring to learn that he hasn’t really seemed to evolve much personally. Of course, isn’t that the point of the series? If that is the case, what is the point of this book?

As noted above, I did not read to the end. Perhaps at another point, I will, but I just couldn’t seem to get into this book. I’m glad that I got this at the library and was able to return it.
In sum, I have not given up on Redfield, but I do believe this book needed more pizzazz.

Our hero’s journey for knowledge and enlightenment started in the Celestine Prophecy. Now in this fourth book, documents are being leaked out that explain twelve integrations that lead to a collective consciousness, pulls religions together, bridges Earthbound and the afterlife, and brings about The Rapture without Armageddon. And of course there is opposition from those violently opposed to changing their way of thinking which leads to much of what is currently wrong in today’s civilization.

The story could be read very quickly, but I took a lot longer to read this than I do most other fiction. I already understood the idea of many of the ‘integrations’ through other sources, but some were new to me, or at least hadn’t been understood. Some can’t be fully understood without experiencing it.

The content taught is really good, but the story was rushed and some aspects of it felt contrived. But on the whole the book delivers what it means to and provides a good explanation of why things are happening and what we can achieve.

Received as an ARC giveaway.

Admittedly it has been many years since reading the first two books and have not read the third but other reviews said this could stand alone so I listened and just got on with reading this one, but I remember sincerely enjoying the first two. After completing this one I now feel I must go back to see if I still enjoy them. I found this book to be overly preachy, it felt less like an adventure and more like a living life with the Divine book. The ending felt like it was an afterthought, just an effort to finish it off. There are bits of science thrown in there, and the whole 2012 thing is overrated and overdone. To be fair though Redfield shows cunning insight into human nature and the mannerisms exhibited by extremists all over the Earth. His depictions of the plight we truly do face are spot on, and deservedly frightening.

A spiritual parable that is interesting, intriguing and tempting. I know that a part of me (the naïve reader) would love all this to happen, while the other part (the sentimental reader) keeps complaining how flat the story is as a novel. Just after starting to read this book, I watched The Celestine Prophecy the movie. I read the book a long time ago. When I see the movie I just realized that I knew nothing about the character: how old they are, what they look like, etc. They all are just a device for the parable and insights.

However, the motivation of the writer is so strong. I do sympathize that. And hoping many people receive the message.

I won this book from Firstreads and I was really excited to get it as I had read all the others before it. Maybe my expectations were too high but after reading it I was rather disappointed.

The story is Our Hero (why doesn't this guy have a name? I can't remember if he had one in the other books, its been too long since I read them) teams up with Will to find yet another Insight which is made up of Integrations. Always before Each Insight was seperate and just connected to the next in line. Anyway, all these integrations connect together to give us the power to stop Armageddon. Instead of invoking a Holy War we are actually given a Revelation to connect with the divine and solve the worlds problems. There is more philosophy here than actual storyline. Thats the biggest problem I have with this book. The guy without a name simply picks up where he left off in the last book. Its like the last several years never happened. He has no job but plenty of money to go running to Egypt. He also has no relationship/girlfriend and its not ever mentioned what happened to the previous women in his life. And it seems as though he views relationships like that as spiritually beneath him. He only wants to have relationships with women on a platonic plane.

The begining of the book reviews things that were experienced in the earlier books except for some important things in The Secret of Shambhala: In Search of the Eleventh Insight were just ignored particularly about dealing with past lives. He met up with Rachel and seemed to connect with her on a deeper level and this possibility of a past life experience was just ignored. Shouldn't he have integrated these insights into his life pretty thoroughly by now?

I agree that the world is headed in a bad direction and it will take all of us to make a difference. And the possibilities of terrorism are very real and very scarey. But, this book is more philosophy than story and alot of attention to detail was lacking. Such as the descriptions of people, I could get no clear picture about who these people were that he was interacting with. And other little things bugged me, such as they did all that traveling on a little bit of salad and a granola bar.

This is the fourth book from The Celestine Prophecies series. I truly loved all of the 4 books. This one is kind of eye-opener and thought-provoking. I wish I had known about it 20 years back. Even though all 4 books are fictional but its totally blended and balanced between materialism and spirituality. It has helped me to expand my awareness, elevate my energy, knowing to recognize intuition and tuning in for synchronicity. it also teaches how those "white lies" are a way to manipulate others and puts away all the synchronicity that was coming our way. It also shows a middle path between polarities. In the times we live currently, our extremes are religions and politics, and the book theme is about these extremists who want to initiate a massive war at a "nuke" level, that would destroy the humanity as a whole. Our hero and his friends have the intention to stop the war and do all the efforts for that purpose with their lives at risk and facing lots of adversities. This is kind of book I wish everyone should read. Highly recommended.

It is an exciting adventure that challenges your pre-conceived ideas about religion while affirming your beliefs at the same time. It follows characters from previous books, but even new readers can follow along without missing too much. I was deeply inspired by the truths it reveals, and I have a newfound appreciation for honesty!

"In a time of universal deceit, truth-telling becomes a revolutionary act."- George Orwell

This book is part of the Celestine Prophecy Series but I thought it also makes sense on it's own. You don't have to start with the first book in that series. But nevertheless I'm not liking the main story or some of these so-called 'spiritual texts' - it didn't connect or resonate with me. Only some bits were thoughtful and interesting.

Anyway, there are some nice quotations about spirituality and that's why I'm giving it 2 stars.

I'm glad I finished that very amazing journey that that was divided into 4 books. I think these are books that should be mandatory in schools and colleges to bring some spiritual awareness into the world.
This book particularly wasn't anywhere near as good as the other previous 3. It seemed to repeat the same thing over and over again and it's starting to feel like that the main character must be somewhat slow. You would think that all those previous experiences he had that he learnt something from them but it seems like he has completely forgotten everything and keeps doing the same mistakes 3+ times over and over again even though people keep reminding him about them at every turn.
Also, another thing that was pretty irritating, was that you never got a closure about certain people. What happened to Charlene? What happened to Marjorie? He had such a deep connection with Charlene that even went back to previous life and yet they parted ways?
Honestly, the most interesting character throughout the whole series was Wil. He had sense and learnt from his mistakes and took initiative.
The best books out of them all were definitely the The Celestine Prophecy and The Secret of Shambhala: In Search of the Eleventh Insight. The 10th insight was too over the top scifi to my liking so I didn't really get much out of that one, and the 12th was just repeating the whole insights all over again and adding a god value to it.
Apart from all those things I still find the books mindblowingly amazing and I will definitely keep recommending them to everybody that might get some valuable information out of them. They are also books that are worth re-reading.

Thin plot doesn't dim the thrill of genuine spiritual discovery

James Redfield's story-telling skills haven't improved in his third novel since The Celestine Prophecy. Fortunately, his ability to touch the reader's spirit and inspire our higher selves has not lessened, which makes this thin story a tale worth reading nonetheless.

Spiritual/metaphysical content: High. Redfield continues to expand on the nine insights detailed in The Celestine Prophecy in 1993. For a quick recap, see Insights from The Celestine Prophecy. His fourth book builds somewhat on those first nine insights by adding twelve "integrations," which extend a few of the original insights by demonstrating practical applications and illustrations that play out in the story line. The first five integrations Redfield calls the foundation to spiritual consciousness. The remaining seven are the "rise to sacred influence." For a quick summary, see Integrations from The Twelfth Insight.

The first integration is the principle of synchronicity, which plays a large role in The Twelfth Insight. The idea is that if you consciously expect synchronicity, and stay in a state of “expectant alertness,” events of synchronicity will occur. This spiritual principle rang true for me, along with another of Redfield's favorite quotes from Kant: "Act and be as though how you are dictates that everyone else will be that same way."

My take: Redfield's spiritual development has deepened considerably since the nine insights of The Celestine Prophecy--so much so that many of his integrations will leave his original readers bewildered and wondering how the story line has moved from personal growth to international conspiracy theory. Although I understand and agree with the spiritual evolution of his ideas, does Redfield really believe that 144,000 people must work through the twelve integrations to prevent the Mayan prophecy that the world will end in 2012, or is it merely a convenient plot device? Either way, the story is thinly developed and seems over the top.

Despite that, Redfield still delivers soul-felt descriptions of spiritual experience that remind me why I started reading new age fiction in the first place. The thrill of spiritual discovery is still there, and The Twelfth Insight is worth reading just to be reminded of that.

When I first read the Celestine Prophesy years ago, I was amazed that not only was someone writing about the way I was living life, but more importantly, how many more people were starting to live consciously for one another.
Now years later having read all books in this series, I can honestly say that having been practicing my own spiritual work over the years, there has been an evolving consciousness in the world. Sadly tho, James redfield's writing has not evolved, but the message has, and that is why I would recommend this whole series of books.
If someone can grasp the simplicity of how to live life, then the experience found in each other's mind will be lived strongly through the insight of LOVE.
I would like to share with you my favourite passage from the book.
The old prophesy predicted that this selfish insecurity could be resolved only when one found true security: a spiritual connection inside, where seeking the truth and being of service were more important than winning.

Vibrating high after reading this, reminded to stay in Consciousness and Appreciation so we can stay connected to Source and help heal the world. "There's only one Rapture! The Rapture is a bodily transformation that happens through heightened perception and consciousness. We shouldn't be waiting on God to bring the Rapture. God is waiting on Us! We have to open to Divine Consciousness enough so that our perception and energy expand enough so that it can occur. And it may take a long time to achieve. The important part is that we know what we are working on, what our drive to Unity can achieve. And that more help is coming, if we learn how to tune in."

I am unimpressed with this book. I read "The Celestine Prophecy" when it first came out and liked it a lot. I am a believer in the messages conveyed in that work. However, this book relies too much on the reader having read "The Celestine Prophecy" as well as having read "The Tenth Insight" books. Thus, it is choppy and jumps from even to event with little or no transitions. The characters are thin and the story plot is weak and, for me, unbelievable.
I finished the book feeling like it was a waste of my time and no wiser for the effort.

WOW!! Just WOW! This final book in the Celestine Prophecy series blew me away!! I absolutely love how they take many belief systems and bring them together! The inclusion of the Mayan calendar prophecies made it very interesting as well.

How could life be if we found common ground in our beliefs rather than creating war.

We go from Sedona to Egypt and the twists and turns kept me reading well past my bedtime!!!

The Twelfth Insight : The Hour of Decision
Penulis : James Redfield
Penerbit : Grand Central & Gramedia Pustaka Utama
ISBN : 9780446575966
Jumlah halaman : 280
Genre : Fiksi
Tahun : 2011

Pada tanggal 21 Desember 2012, kalender Maya berakhir. Banyak orang menganggapnya sebagai pertanda hari kiamat. Mengapa demikian?

To be honest this is my least favourite Celestine Prophecy book. However, it is still a great book and there were many awesome take aways from the book. My main greiavances are:

1. Many of the integrations were quite similar in nature and a lot of them were kind of breezed over. There was not nearly as much description as the insights in the first book. See my main problem with the 10th Insight was that since there was only one insight, the book kind of dragged on with some far-reaching stuff. This book it is almost like other people gave him the same feedback and then he improved in the 11th insight, then went a little haywire in the 12th. There are so many integrations in this book, but some are only described in 1-2 paragraphs.

2. The connection to the Mayan Calendar was not explained well enough. I think James could have done a better job building this connection up more with historical facts. It would also make Tommy have a more active role in the book or his mother Love of Mountain.

3. The climax was stupid. All that happened was that they all tackled/pushed Anish away while "taking control" of his soldiers with the final integrations. But did these soldiers even experienced the first 11 insights? Wouldn't that be necessary. I mean I understand why Anish knew - but if you are trying to hide a document and go for apocalypse, why would you have your followers read it and potentially agree with the other side? Makes no sense.

4. I really didn't like how the main character's relationship with Rachel developed. She went from being a random stranger in a bar (who he never talked to at the car) to then being one with him and then dying. In other books it took a lot longer for these relationships to develop and I think that is also true in life even if you feel the "presence".

5. Book had a lot of repeated imagery like pine trees and junipers. It is like any nature scene in the book mentions these. Gets old.

Still a good book, but in my opinion it was too short for the amount of integrations present and the Mayan Calendar connection was done in a lackluster way.

Synopsis:
The Twelfth Insight was written by James Redfield and published in 2011. It is the fourth and final book in The Celestine Prophecy series. This is a spiritual adventure series. The first book was about a man who found out about a manuscript that was discovered that described better ways for humans to live their lives and to realize that there is more to life than just the material world. This last installment in the series centered around the characters learning to integrate what they have learned into their lives and trying to influence others to do the same.

Storyline:
To be completely honest I think this series could have done without this final book. Yes, parts of it were a nice reminder to get in touch with certain important spiritual concepts. It seemed so repetitive though and like there wasn’t really much new insight. I felt like it was a cookie cutter story of the other books. There was also a weird inclusion of some 2012 apocalyptic prophecy stuff and I felt that was a little unnecessary.

Setting:
The Twelfth Insight was set in Arizona and then in Egypt. The settings were cool as they usually are in this series. Always a good outdoor setting with a good adventure set up.

Characters:
The Twelfth Insight was narrated by the same unnamed narrator as in the other books. His perspective is always cool because he is unnamed it always feels like we are experiencing his spiritual journey. Other than that the characters are just means to an end like in the other books. They are ways to explore different concepts. Nothing special.

Did I Like It?:
I really like this series and have enjoyed reading all of it. I just don’t think this last book was necessary. I still liked parts of it and it was a good reminder of some spiritual concepts. Just didn’t feel like I learned anything new in this one.

Do I Recommend It?:
I recommend this series to spiritual seekers for sure. I think you can give this last book a pass though.

I read a few pages and a couple weeks later had to do a restart since I could not get into it. This second time around is better. Wil and the other person met at a Pub, and now something about a document (dead red scrolls or Mayan's ancient-historic material) that speaks on the end of the world in 2012 (mindfully many feared this around 2010 which thankfully did not happen in the way people thought).

Further on, it speaks against the food industry (which I am more agreeing with that it is not meant for our health and keep us sick to go to hospitals, perform surgeries, and/or prescribe; cut and prescribe to keep monies in these identities). Speak on glutamates (MSG) which I know I cannot eat since 2000 but leads to obesity, diabetes, and other modern diseases (p 32). "Eating is one if the most obsessive things we do...feel good distraction is food, taste really good, it won't give you that pacified and satisfied feeling that comes when glutamate receptors in the brain are activated. Problem: can't keep your energy up and stay alert spiritually if you are drugged, 32-33." He goes on to state food is the energy we allow into our consciousness and encourages organic, natural foods to get the same receptors in the brain which doesn't bring us down.

"native peoples have always seen mountains as sacred places that lift us above the common awareness to glimpse the sacred spirit. This spirit is now seeking to come closer. The Maya knew and came to this world to bring the message of the Calendar to us. (148)."

At times, I feel like this book is nonfiction trying to go fiction, or have a fiction feel to it.

Disclaimer: I borrowed a copy from the library; and I loved "the Celestine Prophecy" movie (watched it three or so times and still touches my heart) so I thought I would read from the author via book which to me, doesn't follow the movie necessarily and not as great as the featured film.

Overall, it's an okay read. I did like some of the concepts like law of karma, connection, etc.

My rating isn't a true picture of my high regard for this book. As a fictional novel, I give the narrative 3 stars . . . but as teaching allegory on the path to consciousness, I give it ***** 5 stars. I read The Celestine Prophecy on the recommendation of a friend back in 1995. It was not the kind of book I would have ever chosen to read on my own, and the subject matter was not anything I had ever explored or considered exploring previously. I was a skeptic of all things mystical, magical and miraculous. I didn't know at the time that that book would launch me on a journey into the world of mystical, magical, metaphysical, miraculous -- spiritual, and that over the next 20+ years the pursuit of such things would upend my "normal" life and set me on a path I cannot imagine ever being off. I have friends on the same path who look back now and say that book was of the same pivotal effect in their lives. It occurred to me recently to revisit Mr. Redfield's books to see if I receive them differently now. I had never read any of the sequels to the Celestine Prophecy and by virtue of library availability alone, I settled on The Twelfth Insight. Wow. Again, though the story and the characters leave a decent amount to be desired from a literary standpoint, as a primer and allegory for spiritual training, it is amazing. If this is your path, this book has much to offer in terms of helping you measure your progress and refine your process.

The Celestine Prophecy still remains one of my favourite books as it blew my mind and still stays with me in the near 20 years ago I read it. I read the 2 follow up books and thoroughly enjoyed those and still reference them also. When I heard there was a twelth insight I brought it and dropped everything to read it. It pains me to say but I was disappointed 😥. It's basically all 3 books rewritten and didn't teach me anything new. It talks about how we can all to a better future after 2012 and live in harmony combining heaven an earth. As it's now 2019 and the world we are in in worse than ever I ended up feeling really depressed and fear we are all now too late. The book itself isn't that well written and some of it I just found ridiculous. It's not all bad though as with all the others I will take something away from it and I will strive myself to be a better person but that's more a reminder on the celestine prophecy as opposed to anything new I learned from reading this.

While I love a well closed out book with no loose ends, I am more than happy to overlook the tiny imperfections when the book is just that good. The lesson within this series is better than any religious/spiritual center I have ever been to, the love and acceptance in an AUTHENTIC way is just perfect.

So, while there are some reviews that try to knock this book for not mentioning the details of characters personal lives, to them I only say this: YOU ARE MISSING THE ENTIRE POINT OF THESE BOOKS! I hope you can go back, read these again, and absorb the experience and life lessons that these books offer in a fun, adventurous, lighthearted way. I also suggest that if you are lacking so heavily in the details of how their personal lives changed, their family lives, etc... FAN FICTION! Write those details and create a whole new side of this wildly fun series!

The hour of decision, everyone has a choice to make and a plan to fulfill.
I believe that there is only one God, and all religions points to the divine being from different angles and perspective. But mostly I believe that the main and most important law of all times that we were given ( according to Christianity) is to love one another as we love ourselves and God our Father.
Haven't read the first and second book, and I admit there are alot of things to learn If I was to read them, but from this book, I might as well say, the two pillars of staying in alignment and remaining in the consciousness of God's presence one needs truth and love (agape love).
Honestly, I will surely have to reread this book, because I believe there is more lessons to learn from it.

Much like The Celestine Prophecy years ago, this was a timely read with many synchronicities and connections to other books I have read. I enjoy parables and with this particular one, the reality that it is easy to keep your energy high and perspective clear when you are surrounded by those of like mind and things are going well. It is however, far more challenging when life takes a twist and you are not with people who think the same way, as anyone who has attended a workshop and then returns home is well aware.

The reason I only gave it 3 stars is the strong bias to one religion, which is contrary to the premise of both the parable and the reality that ALL religions/spiritual paths are talking about the same thing, they just have a different way of saying it.
