Boring, Boring! I was very surprised and disappointed, considering the fact that I like the rest of Mathewson's books so much. There is very little character development, especially with Edward. The reader just can't see who this guy is. On the opposite scale, the heroine Dana is simply unlikable and unrealistic. She goes from being embarrassed about her body to being the sexiest woman alive doing Maxim shoots in like one chapter. What happened in between there? Also, she does nude love scenes in a movie and then acts surprised when her future husband is upset about it. Really? (PS. Authors who have never acted a day in their lives do not get offered leading female roles in Hollywood movies)
Many of the situations are so fake and ridiculous, it's like really bad sitcom writing. The rest of Mathewson's books are so good because they are about normal people living in situations that she has obviously had some experience with. But this stupid Hollywood super-couple setup is just so fake and unbelievable that even if she had firsthand experience of that reality, it would still come across as fake to the rest of us because virtually no one has experience with that kind of life style.
Finally, where is the romance here? Dana and Edward meet as coworkers and fall in love and start dating almost immediately. No angst. No uncertainly. No wondering "oh, will they get together". Nothing. The most boring get-together that I have ever read in a so-called romance novel. Oddly enough, the followup to this book--"A Reclusive Heart"--is awesome!!!! What did you do, Mathewson?

Once I started this book, I couldn’t put it down! I worried that I wouldn’t like this book because the description didn’t instantly grab me but I had nothing to worry about. This was classic Mathewson.
I loved Edward and Dana as a couple. They had great chemistry and were a great team. This is one time that there wasn’t much of a friendship before the couple got together and as much as I’ve enjoyed that in the past R.L. Mathewson books, the lack of friendship worked here. Don’t get me wrong, there was a “friendship” that was built up before they admitted their feelings to each other, but it wasn’t anything like the previous books.
Edward was great with Dana’s kids, Cole and Elizabeth, a natural father. It was nice to see him take to the kids so quickly and care about their happiness and welfare. I loved the scene where Edward met Jeff for the first time. You could clearly see who the kids’ father figure was.
For me, this ranks up at the top of Mathewson’s books. In a way, it was refreshing that even with all the crap Dana and Edward went through, they had no breakups. There were no separations due to miscommunications or male stupidity. I kept expecting something to happen to tear them apart but I was pleased that they stayed together. From start to finish this book was action packed and drama filled. I can’t remember the last time a fictional couple had to go through so much before they got their HEA, while staying together.
Overall, this was an extremely enjoyable book that kept me hooked long into the night until I finished the book.

I just have to say that this book is lucky R.L. Mathewson knows hot to write funny scenes, because without them I would give it 2 stars.
I tried to love it, and it didn't work. Then I tried to really like it, and that didn't work either. I just liked it.
Reasons?

For me, the most important one - The characters: I just couldn't connect to them, at all. They met early in the novel, and soon after fell in love. You get to read that love, but you just can't feel it. I just read them to see how they were going to end, with not much interest to it.
The story - well, there wasn't an actuall story here. There are a series of misfortunate events through the entire book, loads of them, that have no purpose whatsoever, maybe just so something would be happening all the time. There were bombs(!!!), gun threats, papparazzis, crazy fans (oh there were like 10 crazy fans attacks in here *rolls eyes* ), a rape attempt, a car accident, someone trying to get their sex life on the net- several times XD, the heroine having a baby in the set of a movie and so on and so on. I don't know, usually those heavy situations are there to get the main characters more emotionally together, or apart, it depends. Here they had no role, they just happened, and the H/h just got through them all.
In the end, there was no happy feeling like aww they made it together, all's good. All has been good with them from page 50 or so, emotionally and their relationship stayed the same throughout the book. There was just one scene where I could actually FEEL Edward and his emotions for Dana, and that was after the attempted rape on her. That was the only emotional scene here. Sometimes you can read "I love you" a million times and it doesn't make you believe it or feel it.
There were a few really funny scenes, the dialogue was cute sometimes, and for that I'll give it 3 stars, but I'm so sorry this didn't work for me, because I really really loved the Neighbors from hell :(

UNPOPULAR OPINION ALERT!
I do really like this author and have enjoyed almost everything she has written that I read. Maybe this was written early in her career, or maybe it just sucked...but either way - IT SUCKED!
This is a case where a book is SAFE. But safe is not my only requirement for a book. I like a good story, with characters I can get behind, who develop, something interesting happens, it is written well (or at least ok) and maybe even edited. My standards are not too high, but they do exist.
So what was my problem?
I HATED Dana! Yep - HATED!
She was PERFECT - everyone worshiped her, wanted to fuck her, she had the best body in the world (after 2 kids) was the most gorgeous, the best mom, yada, yada, yada. I wanted to gag. Plus I had to hear about it all the freakin time! To me she was a selfish, spoiled BITCH! and a terrible mother. Always doing her own thing. I am sure kids want to grow up having all of their friends see their mother's tits and ass in the movies (no body double - because you know she has a perfect body). She never once thought about the kids or Edward. Just did her own thing. I definitely would want to know little boys everywhere are using my Maxim photo spread for their spank bank. Listen - I am no prude - but her thought patterns went from me, myself to I. Never to anyone else!
She treated the hero like dirt. I hated how she treated him. She disregarded his feelings all the time. She also flirted with men in front of him. I cannot tell you how many times I want to slap her.
Edward was a great hero, although a bit of a doormat. Loved him with the kids. Cole was adorable. Although he seemed to have matured years in the course of the book. Elizabeth was more in the background, which was a shame.
If you do not mind a PERFECT heroine with cute kids and a beta hero, you will possibly enjoy this read. It was just not for me!

There wasn't much to the plot other than pure fluff but I still kind of enjoyed it. Loved the hilarity and the little boy COLE.The kids were seriously cute !
Felt like it lacked a bit of R.L's magical touch tough...Slightly disappointed.

WHY THE FUCK HAVEN'T I READ THIS EARLIER?
*I am so fucking furious at myself*
This book is like perfect!! Ok, Imagine this.. your favorite author and your favorite movie star together, YES~ Thats how amazing this book was!!
I loved each and every scene of this book, each and every character, each drama scene, each twist and turn!
R.L. Mathewson sure as hell does no how to write some damn fabulous books! I think I have at least 4-5 of here books on my favorite shelf! Damn woman ;)
Her writing style is brilliant, you fall in love with the story, character and the plot. The book totally compels you.. I stayed awake the whole night finishing this book in one sitting!!
Dana, Strong passionate woman, who loves endlessly without reservations or bounds!
Edward, Strong super hot amazingly wonderful man, so protective and amazing!
Cole!! I love youuuuuuuu!

Dana knew that her life had come to a impasse, an unhappy marriage and two beautiful children who need unconditional love. When her novel is accepted she sees this as the opportunity she has been waiting for, she moves to California and begins a new life filled with love and acceptance. Now she has hit the big time but she still remains the tenderhearted woman she always has been and raises her children with a normalcy that is rare in Hollywood.
Hot Hollywood star Edward can't believe he has the script for his favorite book in front of him, what's better he has just signed on to play the lead in the movie. Edward is enchanted the moment he meets Dana, she is down to earth and beautiful and doesn't seem the least bit interested in letting fame take over her life. If his crush wasn't apparent enough, the minute he sees her with her children he knows she is the one. Now he has to figure out how to ask her out in order to make her a permanant fixture in his life.
This was a charming read, it does not have the humor the Neighbor series does but it still is a compelling read. It was kind of like you were looking through a window of someones life and watching Dana get swept off her feet.

It pains me to do this, because I’m such a huge fan of R.L. Mathewson. Her Neighbor from Hell books are some of my favourites, but this book just did not work for me.
It’s the story of Dana, an unhappily married woman with two young children who finds the strength to leave her douche husband, finds success and fame, meets the hottest actor in Hollywood and the two of them fall in mad love. It sounds like a great read, but there were just too many unrealistic and OTT moments in this book that had me rolling my eyes and it killed the story for me.
Firstly, Dana is totally a Mary Sue character. She’s sweet and polite to everybody - all the time, everybody she meets falls in instant love with her, and everything she does is simply amazing. She publishes 6 books in one year, which are so well-loved that she is recognised by obsessed fans in the street. She is cast as the lead in a movie without an audition or any acting experience. And then, before that movie is even released, she’s cast as the lead in a second movie, with a $15 million paycheck, four days before filming beings. Oh, and apparently the sexiest, most beautiful woman in the world.
And then there are the OTT elements - her ex isn’t just a douche, he’s a douche of epic proportions, her babysitter is possibly the worst on the planet, and her and Edward’s experience with stalkers and the paparazzi is TOTALLY extreme – verbal abuse, physical assault, break ins, attempted rape, attempted murder, another sex tape, it just goes on and on. And they are so accepting of it all! They just brush it off and move on. And when Edward calls up a live radio talk show and discusses his sex life with Dana live on the air (seriously, WTF?!?!?), and all she can say is “you sound sexy on the radio”, I almost stopped the book right there.
In actual fact, I was listening to it as an audiobook. Had I read it, I probably would have DNF’d.
The book is not actually a story, but more like a series of events that happen to these characters. Yes, it’s Dana and Edward falling in love and their life together, but each incident happens, is dealt with, and then we move on to the next incident. There’s no flow to it.
On the positive side, I liked Edward, I thought his love for Dana and his commitment to his family – particularly to the kids – was absolutely gorgeous. And their relationship is super functional. Even with all that they are dealing with, there is no relationship drama. But even that wasn’t enough to save this book for me.
I really want to 1 star this book, but for the sake of Edward, and the steamy scenes, I’m giving it 2. But only just.

There are a lot of elements of the story that I like. Two days later and I am still imagining Cole and his two twin brothers walking around shirtless
'cause that's what their dad or "real men" do. Little moments like this make the book. What this book needs is an editor. It was long for the content, it was choppy, especially in the beginning. The beginning was not good with the introduction of Dana and her soon to be ex-husband and previous lovers. It was flat and could have been sharpened and R.L. Mathewson is a sharp writer.
Dana's transformation was amazing but more amazing is that she is a Maxim model, famous actress, top-tier author, vixen, enchanting friend, great mother, triathalon athlete, etc. Too much, really too much. Someone should have just put the brakes on and said, yes this is a great book and you write warm charming moments, let's break this down and not do EVERYTHING. I am guessing that maybe this was an early work but Mathewson's (also Dana's last name) writing style definitely tightens up over time.
Last mention. Please don't make the first couple of female character's names so similar. I spent a fair amount of time trying to keep Dana and her assistant Deanna separate.

Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot.
I'm unsure where to start with this. I've never read a book by this author despite several people telling me I "just had to!" I'm wondering what all the hype was about. I'm really hoping this book is not an accurate representation of this author's work, or I'm going to really start questioning my friends' judgment.
"A Humble Heart" was just ludicrous. The only reason I'm giving it more than one star is the fact that I couldn't put it down, and that was because I was constantly wondering what absolutely ridiculous situation these two were going to be put into next. Seriously... bombs, gun shots, car chases, attempted rape, crazed fans, intrusive media, sex tapes and recordings, unplanned pregnancy, vengeful ex's, life changing household accidents, deadly car accidents, and asshat parents all in one story. It's simply too much. Even with all that, there was very little plot. It was like reading a series of short stories, each more intense and absurd than the one before it, connected only by the main characters.
The characters were okay... I guess. If you don't mind the uber-perfect Dana. No joke, this girl is apparently the BOMB! She went from bored, overweight housewife to the hot-as-hell, rich as Midas, unbelievably famous, bestselling author and actress in the period of a year, oh and she manages to grab the Hollywood heartthrob, stud of the century, Edward, as well. Yeah, uh huh, okay. She's so perfect, she TRIPLE majored in college, saved a little boy from a gun wielding maniac, pulled herself and her (of course) unbelievably perfect children out of a loveless marriage and bad home life, plowed head first into fortune and fame and managed to stay humble as apple pie the whole time. Oh, did I mention she also donates very large amounts to several charities and does so anonymously? AND.... she always seems to be able to pull together an array of refreshments for the police whenever they swing by. Yeah, she's great. A total Kate Upton meets Martha Stewart <--- insert eyeroll here.
Now Edward, here's what we know about him: He's hot. That about sums it up.
Their relationship was kinda insta-love based on the fact that Dana is perfect and Edward is hot. I mean, yeah... that's totally long lasting relationship material! I never really saw how they fell in love, it just kind of was. One minute they are coworkers, they share a kiss and BANG... they're deep into a relationship and calling each other boyfriend/girlfriend. It was awkward.
Overall, I would say don't bother with this one. Unless you want to feed your masochistic side.

The only reason I'm giving it more than one star is the fact that I couldn't put it down, and that was because I was constantly wondering what absolutely ridiculous situation these two were going to be put into next. Seriously... bombs, gun shots, car chases, attempted rape, crazed fans, intrusive media, sex tapes and recordings, unplanned pregnancy, vengeful ex's, life changing household accidents, deadly car accidents, and asshat parents all in one story. It's simply too much. Even with all that, there was very little plot. It was like reading a series of short stories, each more intense and absurd than the one before it, connected only by the main characters.
The characters were okay... I guess. If you don't mind the uber-perfect Dana. No joke, this girl is apparently the BOMB! She went from bored, overweight housewife to the hot-as-hell, rich as Midas, unbelievably famous, bestselling author and actress in the period of a year, oh and she manages to grab the Hollywood heartthrob, stud of the century, Edward, as well. Yeah, uh huh, okay. She's so perfect, she TRIPLE majored in college, saved a little boy from a gun wielding maniac, pulled herself and her (of course) unbelievably perfect children out of a loveless marriage and bad home life, plowed head first into fortune and fame and managed to stay humble as apple pie the whole time. Oh, did I mention she also donates very large amounts to several charities and does so anonymously? AND.... she always seems to be able to pull together an array of refreshments for the police whenever they swing by. Yeah, she's great. A total Kate Upton meets Martha Stewart <--- insert eyeroll here.
Now Edward, here's what we know about him: He's hot. That about sums it up.
Their relationship was kinda insta-love based on the fact that Dana is perfect and Edward is hot. I mean, yeah... that's totally long lasting relationship material! I never really saw how they fell in love, it just kind of was. One minute they are coworkers, they share a kiss and BANG... they're deep into a relationship and calling each other boyfriend/girlfriend. It was awkward.
Overall, I would say don't bother with this one. Unless you want to feed your masochistic side.

I had heard a lot of good things about this author, so I decided to check her out. I picked this one, because I needed a character named Dana.
I have to say, I was totally let down by this one. TOO much stuff happened to these people, and it was just totally unrealistic. This woman went from an overweight unhappy housewife to a divorced bestselling author with 3 books out, very well known and famous, a trialathon runner, Maxim cover model, and actress, in just a year. They hired her to do the lead role in a movie that started shooting in just a week.
She had a bomb delivered to her door, was shot at by a crazy fan, had more crazy fans attack her at the movies, had yet another crazy fan break into her house with the intention of killing her husband and kids and raping her, was paid 15 million dollars for her second movie, was stalked by reporters and papparazi, got pregnant with twins the first time she slept with her new guy, in spite of having her tubes done, and the list goes on.
And then there's the character names. The main character was Dana, her assistant was Deana. On one page there were Eric, Rick, and Nick. Dana's maiden name was O'shea, and the guy wants to write about a vampire named Shea.
Dana was the best writer (and seriously, how many authors do you know who's faces are SOOO well known, just a year after they get published? The first book in the Hollywood Hearts series by R.L. Mathewson. Dana is an author with a large fan base and Edward Pierce is a heartthrob actor who is starring in the movie based on one of Dana's books.
I had a few issues with the story and editing. The story itself was nice and entertaining but Dana's perfect sunshine disposition grated on my nerves a bit. Also, the crazed fans got tiresome. I love this author's Neighbor from Hell series and I didn't hate this one but it wasn't up to par with what I expected from the author. I think I read in someone's review that this was an older book. I have the next book in the series and I will read it.

This book was extremely unrealistic, but entertaining in its absurdity.
It should have been titled "Fame Gone Wrong" because so many crazy things happen to the celebrity couple in the book. I don't think a famous actress has ever been jumped by the fans of her famous actor boyfriend out of pure jealousy (especially while she's pregnant). That's just only one of many crazy things that happen to the celebrity couple during the one year period in the book.
And the heroine is more like a superwoman (she's more perfect than even Mary Poppins, who was practically perfect in every way)
She's an author extraordinaire turned big screen leading lady because she has "the world's most perfect body", so of course she poses for Maxim (she also happens to be a natural at acting with zero previous experience), plus a single mom who's down to earth, plus a winning triathlon athlete, plus when she was in college (full-time, no less, pursuing a triple major) she worked as an EMT and saved a child in a hostage situation (taking a bullet herself).
Did I leave anything out? I know I must be forgetting something!
Oh yeah, she's also an under the radar anonymous philanthropist (so humble of her) who funds a charity for sick and orphaned children.

I officially blame the Bradford boys. I've been continuously raiding R.L. Mathewson's list of funny books because I just want to get the light, fluffy, and funny feels that I got from the first two books from her Neighbor From Hell series and so far, nothing has ever compared.
At best, this was an okay read. I've always been a bit iffy reading about romance stories that delve into the Hollywood fame and fortune thing because some of the stuff about stardom are way exaggerated and too over-the-top. And this is a perfect example of that too over-the-top thing. Things were actually great in the beginning up until the point where they suddenly and quickly fell for each other. Then one absurd thing happened after another and I found myself detaching even more from the story and the characters.
So what are the three stars for? Well, I have to admit that Edward is one swoony guy and then of course there are those cute and adorable kids, especially Cole! I'm really such a sucker for these stories that involve adorable kids---I mean, who doesn't love cute kids, right? Right. I'd still recommend this one for those looking for very light and super fluffy reads that don't really make you think that much. Perfect read in-between heavily emotional reads, I guess ;)

A book that leaves you with the warm fuzzies!
I felt a bit of a cynic though, because I kept waiting for the proverbial shoe to drop and break Dana and Edward’s sweet and caring relationship a part. Mostly I though Edward would do something awful, or be unsupportive and misunderstanding, or just give up with all drama that revolved around them. But I was happily proved wrong. Their relationship continued to solidify and the story was truly enjoyable. It made me want to shout at the writing gods to please let them be, but also made me laugh, swoon, blush and go awww sweet.

This was fun,sweet and filled with love. So much went on between them and the kids. Even though there were some crazy and sad moments they get through it. I loved this book.

February. Sorry - major spoilers ahead...I had some real issues with this book. First of all, the whole beginning, explaining Dana's life before her divorce, was too long and mostly unnecessary (now I know the meaning of "info dump!"). Also, I've never been bothered by the idea of a character being a "Mary Sue" but my goodness, if there was ever a MS, it was Dana. She was insecure about her looks and body - but one picture of her in a bikini (and if she was that insecure, she'd never have been out in a bikini in the first place) and the world declares her "the sexiest woman alive...a perfect body...etc." She is insanely successful and switches over to doing movies ($15 mil for her second movie - no way in hell would that ever happen) including nudity and sex scenes with no issues. She saved a little boy's life (getting shot in the process), was beautiful beyond compare, and was a superb mother. The paparazzi goes over-the-top nuts over both Dana (and seriously - a character named Dana and one named Deana and one named Rick and one named Nick?!) - teenage girls punching and kicking Dana, paparazzi almost as violent (and again - seriously, harrassing a 4 year old boy t the point of tears?!), constant plots to hurt Dana and/or Edward and the sex tape and the audio tape all being made so incredibly public...it was just one unbelievable scenario after another - felt like R. L. was throwing in everything but the kitchen sink. I've now read all but two of her published books and definitely think her Neighbor's From Hell books are the best! That said - this was very readable and I did enjoy parts (needed some judicious editing to make it less meandering - less issue after issue, etc.). I liked A Reclusive Heart (sequel) better. Oh - and what did Dana whisper to Nick to shock him (Edward wanted to know too but that got dropped).

I have been a huge fan of Ms. Mathewson since I first read Playing for Keeps. I've read just about every book she has, however, as I'm not usually a fan of the movie star / famous character trope, I had been putting this one off. Bad move!
My bestie / blog buddy chose this book as April's Pify choice for me, knowing how I feel about the whole actor thing. So without too much complaining, I gave it a shot ;) It was awesome! The whole actor thing really didn't come off how I expected. Honestly, I'm not even sure what it was I was expecting so... Shame on me! lol
This book was a combination of sweet, sexy, funny, and seriousness that worked so well together. The characters were great and well written, the plot was spot on and I really enjoyed it from the beginning to the end. Edward was a great guy who didn't let his fame go to his head. That is something I really loved, and feared could be a possible issue. Dana was a great character as well, and I loved that she was a writer and had a strong personality, was willing to do what she had to to take care of her family.
The romance that developed between Dana and Edward was seamless. I liked how they started as coworkers, so to speak, and it blossomed from there. I especially liked how Edward wasn't too sure of himself with her at first. He was in awe of her talent, the same way she was of him.

I feel like there were sever words and phrases that were repeated in sentence after sentence, and it got to where I couldn't ignore it. I loved Edward and Dana's story. At first I didn't know what to expect, but as I read the story drew me in. I loved Dana- she was very genuine, humble, down to earth and so nice. She wanted more for herself and her children and she made it on her own by ridding herself of her deadbeet husband. Edward was a charmer, so sincere, he just wanted a sense of normalcy. The interaction between Dana and Edward was great, it was about time both found true love! The kids were adorable. I liked how despite all the troubles accompanying their fame Edward and Dana stood by one another. A great story by R.L. Mathewson!!

This book warmed my heart, set it on fire, squeezed it and had me swooning, giggling and smiling like a fool. Simply perfection.
Definitely a favorite and a reread worthy!

Je mi jasné, že toto je asi jedna z prvých autorkiných kníh, ale PANEBOŽE. Nebudem to nijako zvlášť komentovať, napíšem len čo sa tam dialo vo chvíli, keď som knihu nadobro zatvorila:
Dovtedy neznámej autorke Dane sa podarí vo svete preraziť s úžasnou knihou Christian a Bailey. Stane sa z nej strašná celebrita, opustí so svojimi dvoma deťmi manžela, ktorý ju zanedbával a poberie sa do Hollywoodu. Filmové spracovanie na seba nenechá dlho čakať a o chvíľu je Dana na pľaci a sleduje, ako jej knihu prebúdzajú k životu. Ok, po tento bod by to ešte šlo.
Na scénu však prichádza EDWARD, známy hollywoodsky herec, ktorého každý chce, no ktorému sláva nestúpla do hlavy, je skromný, nemá rád popularitu a nemá rád ženy, čo sa mu hádžu pod nohy. A ktorý je obrovským fanúšikom Daniných kníh. Samozrejme Dana je emancipovaná žena, ktorej je úplne jedno, že pred ňou stojí "sexi žrebec" a chová sa pred ním úplne normálne. Dokonca až tak normálne, že ich celková chémia počas prvého stretnutia sa rovná chémii medzi dvoma tyčami v autobuse. Edward je z Daninej ľahostajnosti unesený, Dana mu na druhej strane neustále dokazuje, ako ju jeho sláva vôbec neberie. S dôrazom na slovo NEUSTÁLE.
Ale počkať, to nie je všetko! Dana pri podpisovaní zmluvy na sfilomvanie jej knihy podpíše ešte jednu zmluvu, kde sa zaväzuje, že spolu s Edwardom napíšu knihu s postavou, ktorá bude Edwardovi presne šitá na mieru a ktorú bude môcť hneď stvárniť v ďalšom filme. Takže teraz akože hollywoodsky herec a slávna autorka sedia spolu v prívese a píšu knihu.
Počkať, teraz príde celý ten záder: Dana sa opýta Edwarda, v akej postave sa vidí, akú postavu by chcel hrať. A Edward je trochu zahanbený a nechce povedať, ale povie to za neho jeho sestra (ktorá sa strašne chcela stretnúť s Danou, tak si z nej Edward urobil osobnú asistentku - lebo inú možnosť sestra slávneho herca očividne nemá).
A teraz skúste uhádnuť, v akej postave sa Edward vidí. Áno, správne. Edward by si rád zahral upíra.
A presne potiaľto som v knihe došla. Adíos.

This book was not what I expected. I've read quite a few books by Mathewson and had high expectations. I'm not sure if the let down is because this is one of her earlier works, but I was a little disappointed. One of the things I appreciate about Mathewson's writing style is her ability to grab my attention. Whether she's pulling my heart strings or making me bust a gut laughing, I'm always completely enveloped and involved with the story. I just couldn't connect with these characters. There was so much meat there but with so many life-altering events occurring, without any real repercussions, I felt lost.
To me, this story seems to be told mainly from Edward's POV. I hardly heard from Dana. So while I can say that I adore, admire and respect Edward's character, there isn't much I can say for Dana. I do admire her strength, kindness, tenacity and perseverance, in light of the struggles and hardships she has faced, but even though she seemed to suffer through these times, I didn't FEEL it. That is why I was unable to give this book the 5 star rating I thought I would.
Overall, it is a good read. I don't regret picking it up. And it in no way alters my love for the work of R.L. Mathewson.

OK this makes me sad. I am not even going to finish this one.
Let me just say I have read RL's A Neighbor From Hell series and LOVED them! Funny romantic and sweet. However this one? Too much rubbish crammed into it. I laughed out loud during the first "sex" scene and not in a good way. I will continue to read her books in the other series. It could be that this is one of her earlier works. Because it sure doesn't fit in with what I have read of her work before.

I loved it, though not as much as Neighbor from Hell series.
Reading this book is like reading an entire life of someone. It's good at some points, especially when Edward's so sweet and tender and little Cole's just adorable. But somehow it fell flat and I was expecting some wham-bam in the end but received none.
But still I enjoyed it, definitely one of my favorite. Can't wait to read the sequel! ;)

Okay, yes, I am devouring Mathewson's backlist. I haven't been writing reviews, which is bad of me, but I'd like to start this one with a general statement on this author's books (this is the third I've read... first two being books 1 and 2 of the Neighbors from Hell series... which were freaking hilarious):
While they would definitely benefit from a review by a copy editor (I'm guessing this editor is self-publishing these), I am really enjoying the books. The characters are fun and genuine, and the Neighbors from Hell series is just utterly hilarious yet still touching.
Okay, so about this book in particular... I was slightly disappointed about the general plotline, only because it was a combo of super straightforward (and the h/h hook up so early on that I had to double-check my kindle to see if this was a short story) and weirdly repeating on stuff. There was dramatic celebrity-fueled incident after incident after incident, caused by tearful declarations of love and steadfastness by our h/h. These weren't things that strained their relationship and/or caused friction between them: they were pretty unshakable in their devotion to each other.
Which made this book more a book about how to have a family in the bizarro-land of extreme celebrity. And that was okay - it played well - but it wasn't what I was expecting, and at times it felt a hair repetitious. I mean, it took them a reeeeeaaaaaaalllllllly long time to be all "hey, yo, maybe we should hire some security." Gee, you think? But the kids were cute, and the h/h were great and cute with each other and the kids. So I'm not complaining much. :)

Not much to say, on the re-read, that is different from my original review. I enjoyed it, but it would really benefit from an editor and copyeditor. The events were a bit repetitious ... and Dana was a bit of a Mary Sue - she was perfectly perfect in every perfect way, and perfect at everything she attempts to do. Take up acting? No problem, she's a natural. Shy girl who is self-conscious... and is literally described in this book (by the media) as the most perfect beauty in the world. Our girl gets a movie deal off her first book, has men's magazines begging for her to pose, is the best mom in the known universe, a lead acting role handed to her within like... one month on a movie set, and she also runs (and wins) triathlons in her spare time.
I like Dana, and I like Edward. But I'll admit I rolled my eyes more than a time or two at her perfection.
