Seattle Girl

Rate this book
The first time Georgia Fulton gets behind a microphone at her college radio station (because of a guy, of course...), she's hooked. (Who would have thought she'd ever find a potential job where a boss would appreciate her big mouth?) But being a smart-mouth doesn't necessarily keep her from getting hurt by one (smoking hot) jerk after another.

With help from her friends - and loyal listeners - will Georgia finally figure out the real deal about guys, sex, love...and maybe even herself?

If you're a fan of books by Sara Shepard, Sarah Dessen, Jennifer Echols, Sophie Kinsella, Meg Cabot, Lauren Conrad or Simone Elkeles...get ready for Lucy Kevin's debut teen chick lit romance, Seattle Girl.

Lucy Kevin is also the author of FALLING FAST (A romantic comedy about friendship, family...and unexpected love).

I don't even want to give it one star, but that's all I got. I didn't even finish it. The author tried too hard, and never got to a point. basically it was like hanging around in a self-absorbed, twenty year old's brain. There is no story to follow, just random crap that doesn't even go anywhere. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK, unless you are out of Ambien and need a quick fix.

In fact, this is not the actual book I read, so whilst I'm happy to boost the star rating for this book, it actually refers to a different title altogether, one I can't divulge at this point. Let's just say that I "really liked it"!

First two hundred pages are enjoyable, next four hundred is crap-crapity-crap. The characters are so damn stupid and frustrating I almost threw my Nook (Well mostly it was the main character but her friends are not the sharpest knife in the drawer either). After dragging on for 600 pages, the ending is abrupt. Is that even possible? She goes on and on about all these stupid useless guys and in an oh-so-predictable manner, ends up with guy #1. Oh and it happens out of the blue as she "goes to an audition" about a commercial radio show... as if we didn't know she was going to get the job in the first place. Waste of a $1, shouldn't have bought it.

Honestly, i was very disappointed. Its about a girl and her 2 friends finding love and careers. There were parts in it that were just weird and completely unbelievable and the ending was too neat.

I had to pick a book for my reading challenge with a city in the title, since I live close to Seattle, and love Seattle, I thought this would be a fun read. It really wasn't what I expected, though.

I feel the title and cover are misleading. Although a very few landmarks are mentioned about Seattle, the book did not capture the essence of Seattle at all. The cover seems like it should be geared to a younger audience, but the book is for more mature readers, I feel.

The book focuses mainly on sex. I did like the girl's relationship with her friends, though. In the end, though, book was disappointing to me.

At first glance, Georgia Fulton is your typical college student. Nothing about her really stands out. One night at a frat party, she meets a guy named Bill after he spills his beer all over her. They begin talking and he invites her to join him on his talk radio show. Now Georgia feels like she has a purpose, a sense of direction for her life. However, this book isn’t about her struggle to succeed in the talk radio industry though the story centers around it. It is more about Georgia’s experiences with trying to find true love (like the rest of us) and the losers she encounters along the way.

I enjoyed observing Georgia’s attempts to find the one and there are many. What I enjoyed the most about this book is how she took her experiences and used them on her radio show, Seattle Girl. I also enjoyed Georgia’s direct snarky sarcasm and humor. Some of the disasters of relationships she experiences can cause most of us to give up and stay single, but Georgia doesn’t let it stop her.

My only problem with this book was the editing errors. Entire words were missing from sentences and though it didn’t ruin the story for me, it pulled me out of the story enough to try to decipher what word is missing. Next to reading an awful story, being interrupted from a story I am enjoying for a lame reason is highly annoying.

Overall, this story is quite good, filled with characters you can easily relate to and care for. I recommend this story if you are looking for something a little bit different, a romance that isn’t filled with face burning graphic sex scenes and a fairly strong character who knows what she wants and isn’t willing to settle until she finds it.

This "book" showed up as a recommended buy because I like Sophie Kinsella's books. 'Seattle Girl' isn't even comparable to any of Kinsella's work; however, it was almost a guilty pleasure for me. I was at first disappointed that I couldn't find a paperback version but decided it would be a "fun" chance to read a story on my iPhone... Ultimately, it inspired me to write my first Amazon review.

As a former college radio DJ with an excess of dating disaster stories, I was able to relate to Georgia in some ways. It was a quick read. I devoured it over the course of 24 hours, but in a sort of "so bad it's good" kind of way. I actually really liked her friends, Diane and Seth, and would be interested in reading more about them. Overall, I love chick lit, so it was just the sort of fluff I was looking for, but with a few major flaws.

I don't understand how someone can write multiple books and still have an unforgivable amount of grammar and spelling mistakes. Misplaced apostrophes (SO many of these!), mixing up "there" and "their," leaving out quotation marks, sporadic spacing, etc. And the ENDING. How does a girl go from having no dating experience at age 21 to having a slew of suitors overnight? Then her perfect happy ending all falls into place in the last three pages. (Also, what ever happened to the stalker? I guess he's irrelevant now that her life is perfect.) I don't want to slam the book. I really did genuinely enjoy the story and the characters enough to get fully sucked in. It's not often I can finish a book that quickly. I just can't believe no one edited it (or, worse case scenario, it actually was "edited").

I got this one on a whim because someone compared the author's writing to Sophie Kinsella, whom I really like. Maybe a 14 year old Sophie! The story is cute enough but the writing is horrible. I managed to read through it in one day. Basically it skips around the sexual and non-sexual exploits of a woman and her friends through college and maybe a year afterward (I'm not really sure as there aren't any real timelines to the writing, one minute she's a freshman in college and the next a senior.) With a title like "Seattle Girl" I will admit it drew me if only for the fact that I am from Washington state and relish any chance to read about it since I now live on the other side of the country. The author obviously didn't do much research in that department though as really no Seattle landmarks or anything are mentioned in fact the only Seattle-ish place that is mentioned is University of Washington and anyone could come up with that one. The main character comes off acting more like a horny teenage male than a 20-something woman for a good part of the book. And of course you know from the get-go who she's going to end up with so it really isn't a huge surprise when she does indeed end up with him in the end.

Another book I got for free on the Nook (i love this machine! seriously, one of the best vday gifts I have ever gotten from Paul!), and I loved it! I was surprised, as it said it was for the teen set, but I saw it as a fast read, that took you from where the main charachter went through a transformation on many levels (from being a shy girl to an outgoing one), finding her calling in life (she stuck with being a radio host even after her parents said no way) that made her happy (and she did well in!), and finally, of course...after a lot of toads, finding Mr. Right (which was a duh...you kinda knew who he was but she didn't...of course). Her friends became more of her 'family' then her family (I know that all too well!), and you saw how they stood by her as well! A great read (especially when it's free!)!

I have mixed feelings about this book. On one hand I loved Georgia from the very beginning. She's very sassy and it's very interesting about how she first gets into talk radio. I loved hearing about her different shows and her fans (plus 1 stalker).

On the other hand, the structure of this book didn't make much sense to me. In the beginning, Georgia and her friends are freaked out about being virgins. A big deal is made about them losing their virginity, and yet when it actually happens, it's not really a big deal. I didn't understand why that was made into a big thing in the beginning if it didn't really matter.

That being said, I thought this was a cute read. If you are looking for a fun and light story then this book is for you.

Seattle Girl was a fun, easy read. The author has a strong, captivating voice and spending time with her characters was enjoyable. I could relate to much of what she wrote! The book would have earned 4 stars but for the fact that there were several editing issues (about two dozen, I would estimate). There were a few typos, but mostly grammatical or formatting issues (like saying access when she means axis). Additionally, the ending felt rushed. I wanted to spend more time in happily-ever-after and she kinda skimmed over that to get to "the end." All in all, a good, fun read.

Pretty funny, quintessential chick lit. Woman, questioning herself and self-worth, goes through her dating life in a funny and quick manner to show us how they all have effected the person she is but will in no way continue to be. Yeah, yeah, I know there is more to Chick Lit than that but that's what I got out of this book and it was funny. So well worth the read. It was overly predictable and some awkward writing but it didn't feel like a waste of time which is always good in my book.

This was the first book I've completed that was written in first person (besides Stephenie Meyers) and I loved! Normally, I put books aside that are written this way, but Ms. Kevin did a fantastic job of holding my attention and keeping me turning pages. Her humor is awesome in this book.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves a hilarious, down-to-earth, quick read with lots of turning events to keep you on your toes. I would read this book again!

Decent quick read

A bit predictable at times, but overall a good quick read. Some of the 'romance' scenes are trying a little too hard to be subtle and hot, and sadly didn't really achieve either... I usually just skipped past them. The rest of the story and plot was good tho. Ideal story for someone in their early 20s. Being in my late 20s I wasn't disappointed but wasn't overly impressed. Average.

Having just been to Seattle, I thought it would be fun to read a book that was about Seattle. The story line was okay, but the teacher in me just couldn't get past all of the errors throughout the book. References to LA vs Seattle and LOTS of grammatical errors. I could hardly keep from going to find a red pen...

So far I am loving this book. This girl is just like me. I am really laughing out loud and loving it!
The ending was kinda lame but other than that i loved it... however i have been hating all the endings of all my books. I think that i am just sad that it is over. I need to read another one of her books

Having a hard time getting in to this book; reminds me of the story of Chelsea Handler. I guess I'll keep plugging along though, since I hate not finishing a book!

Ok, I finished it! It got better and I actually wanted to see how the Seattle Girl ended up in the end. You wanted her to find true love after all the others did not work out!

I really liked Georgia and her friends and I liked following her love life but....there was always something missing. I wanted the ending to be better than..."the end" . I wanted to know about her true love more than the little that was written. I really needed to see the happiness :(

Well this has all the elements of what I like: humor, my city Seattle, a radio station and chick lit. The only thing missing is good writing.

Sorry, I really wanted to like it. Just too poorly written to continue. DNF

Funny, funny, funny....but not enough of anything else to hold my interest. Felt a bit more autobiographical than I expected. I recommend this book who wants a deep, belly laugh, but not a whole lot of romance or subplot.

La forma de escribir de la autora me ha recordado mucho a la de Sophie Kinsella. Me ha parecido un libro fácil de leer y divertido.
Me ha gustado mucho el personaje de Georgia y la dinámica que existe entre ella y sus amigos.

In my defense, I did not see the entire title of the book when I bought it. I was looking for a chicklit book that would be entertaining, but not serious. I couldn't wait for it to be over. So glad it is finished and I can find a real book to read. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!

This is a total mess of a book, but semi-fun. The protagonist, Georgia, is kind of a twit and I wished the story centered more on her two best friends. I have to admit I thought this sounded like a cute YA book when I requested it off Lendle, but it's more a like trashy chick lit.

I dont always catch all the discrepencies in books but in this one there were quite a few -and if I was catching them...it has to lots of them and quite obvious. The story is cute though.

Not a terrible read, assuming you can get past all the grammatical and spelling errors. I couldn't. I love cheesy chick lit, but this was too lacking in substance even for me.
