The hilarious fifth installment of the #1 New York Times bestselling Princess Diaries --Will Mia attend the senior prom or not???
Mia Thermopolis (aka Princess Amelia Migonette Grimaldi Thermopolis Renaldo) has already won the hearts of millions of aspiring princesses. With the hardcover and audiobook publication to be followed by the release of Disney's sequel to The Princess Diaries movie in August 2004, the princess phenomenon will be in full swing throughout the year!
Girls will be overjoyed with this hilarious addition to their favorite series, which involves seven minutes in heaven, strikes, and Mia's mission to get asked to the senior prom.
Meg Cabot was born on February 1, 1967, during the Chinese astrological year of the Fire Horse, a notoriously unlucky sign. Fortunately she grew up in Bloomington, Indiana, where few people were aware of the stigma of being a fire horse -- at least until Meg became a teenager, when she flunked freshman Algebra twice, then decided to cut her own bangs. After six years as an undergrad at Indiana University, Meg moved to New York City (in the middle of a sanitation worker strike) to pursue a career as an illustrator, at which she failed miserably, forcing her to turn to her favorite hobby--writing novels--for emotional succor. She worked various jobs to pay the rent, including a decade-long stint as the assistant manager of a 700 bed freshmen dormitory at NYU, a position she still occasionally misses.
She is now the author of nearly fifty books for both adults and teens, selling fifteen million copies worldwide, many of which have been #1 New York Times bestsellers, most notably The Princess Diaries series, which is currently being published in over 38 countries, and was made into two hit movies by Disney. In addition, Meg wrote the Mediator and 1-800-Where-R-You? series (on which the television series, Missing, was based), two All-American Girl books, Teen Idol, Avalon High, How to Be Popular, Pants on Fire, Jinx, a series of novels written entirely in email format (Boy Next Door, Boy Meets Girl, and Every Boy's Got One), a mystery series (Size 12 Is Not Fat/ Size 14 Is Not Fat Either/Big Boned), and a chick-lit series called Queen of Babble.
Meg is now writing a new children's series called Allie Finkle's Rules for Girls. Her new paranormal series, Abandon, debuts in Summer of 2011.
Meg currently divides her time between Key West, Indiana, and New York City with a primary cat (one-eyed Henrietta), various back-up cats, and her husband, who doesn't know he married a fire horse. Please don't tell him.
Another fun book! This one was all about prom and Mia finally having her little brother! Like I mentioned in the last book, Mia is at that kind of annoying, whiny stage I don't like, but I know that changes soon. The strike part was pretty interesting and the whole part with Lilly. (who isn't the best friend I'd say in the world... But you can't always choose your best friends I guess.)
Don't be afraid to go and get it, believe in yourself. This story takes place in New York City and at Albert Einstein High School. Mia Thermopolis tells the point of view. Mia is the main character, Michael her boyfriend, Lily her friend, and her Grandmère, they are some other important characters. Mia is the princess of Genovia. She is currently in an relationship with Micheal, her best friends brother. The prom is coming up and Michael hasn't asked her yet and she is only a freshmen so she can't go unless a senior, Michael, asks her. Her Grandmère I has already planned the whole thing out during their princess lessons. Her friend has a plan for her to ask him the question during a game at her birthday party. He doesnt want to go! What is she going to do?
I absolutely love this book! I like the way it was in a diary form and how the book talked about things some girls can relate to except the princess part. This topic was something that made me want to keep reading. Mia is a very passionate person and she will get what she wants, just like me! I would recommend this book to my friends cause they have the same taste as me.
Really liked Project Princess, but I personally felt that Princess in Pink was a bit overwhelming; compared to Mia's other diary entries, I felt like she was a bit too cynical and annoying in Princess in Pink since she complained a lot more.
Every time I think this series is boring and played out, it sucks me back in and has me grinning like an idiot. Enjoy Mia's spring break, and fretting over the prom.
My favorite Princess Diaries book yet! Meg Cabot is a genius at writing the teenage girl--all Mia wants to do is make out with her boyfriend and it's joyous.
Between me getting older and being able to relate less to Mia's acute teenager emotions about what I now can look back on and know are superficial, and this book not aging well, I didn't enjoy this. I didn't care about Mia's feelings. Her worries seemed trivial, even vaguely remembering how intense things felt in high school, especially those related to social anxiety. In 2023, Mia comes off as a shallow privileged teenager who doesn't actually deserve either of the Moscovitzes. I know that this series is supposed to be wish-fulfillment/romance in some sense, but I couldn't help wondering in this volume why Michael would ever date Mia, except that he must be secretly creepy since she seems so much less mature.
Meg Cabot's tone about social issues is probably meant to be funny, but it hits as unfunny at best, and microagressive or offensive at worst. As I said, this really didn't age well, and it makes Meg Cabot, Mia, Mia's Mother, and Lily seem like obnoxious liberal white women who think they're doing the work but are way off base. Project Princess, volume 4.5, was about Mia taking a school trip to help build a house in Appalachia, and it just made me cringe at the saviorism. The only thing that would've made it worse was if it were a Christian missionary trip to build houses for poor non-white people. Although labor rights could be an interesting issue, it felt wrong because it was used as a thin storyline, and of course, had to start with a busboy with a stereotypically Asian-sounding name who turns out to be Nepali, and the characters glibly talk about Chinese persecution of Nepalis and possibly starving families.
Has anyone read 'The Princess Diaries' series by Meg Cabot. I'm sure she is a lovely writer in other pieces of work. Let's say she captured the teenage 'It's all about me and my emotional immaturity' Mia Thermapolis very very well. Mia grows up in New York, versus San Francisco. She dates a few boys, but ultimately her heart is tied to Michael. It's a sweet series of Mia growing up, but it was much too childish for me to read again. It was like dipping a toe back to my teenage years. Is it time to barf yet? 10/10 for capturing the teenage years so accurately. 0/10 for leaving me unable to re-read the series. Go Meg Cabot!
I like that book 4.5 and 5 were combined. They were both super easy, fun reads, and Princess in Pink especially had me feeling nostalgic for high school because it was all about Mia obsessing over prom, and there’s nothing more quintessential to high school than prom.
My biggest pet peeve with this book is that Mia kept repeating the same phrase over and over. She’d say something and then reiterate it. It was very noticeable because I was listening to the book. Maybe the author was just trying to tap into a teenage brain, but it felt like lazy writing and it’s not something that I’ve noticed in the other books.
Probably the best out of books 4-6 and that's not saying a lot. I really hate Mia reading this one as I have gotten older. Especially the gag worthy prom bits and her being all self righteous towards Lily. While I do like Toris as the books progress I really thought how they got together was a little strange and off putting.
Oh, and I finally figured out that Lily would likely be a Bernie Bro turned Jill Stein supporter if she was a real person. No wonder I hate her.
I just started this book, it is okay, I have NOT liked this one other, way to mature for anyone for a long time, I did not finish that book, not only that, but there was language that I was not happy with. but am trying this one, so we will see.
Návrat do mladosti pokračuje.
i just cant get through the fact that a pretty good chunk of this book was pretty ableist and occassionally sexist. i just couldnt enjoy this as i used to :/
These books are so short it feels like nothing even happens. But this one was fun because it had Mia going to prom. Also, Michael is a pretty great love interest and Lilly continues to be the worst.
Project Princess was really cute and I enjoyed it more than I was expecting since I've never read any of the "in-between" novellas. All the hype over the prom was fun, but freaking Michael! Omg he is the worst and doesn't care what Mia wants. I feel like he just takes advantage of the stars in her eyes for him. What a jerk! Mia, dump that loser. Him not taking her to prom because it was "too lame" just shows him for the loser he is. Ugh, I'm so over the Mia/Michael couple.
