Murder on paradise island follows Chloe who has just inherited her grandmother's house and horse stable business on Bermuda Island. The island is everything she remembers from childhood. However soon she finds a dead body on a trail near her property. Then some strange things start happening to Chloe and her property. Are the two things connected? Is someone trying to ruin her business? Get her to leave the island?

My review:

I enjoyed this cozy mystery book it was a quick light read that kept me intrigued throughout. I was kept guessing on who the murderer was and also who was messing with Chloe and protecting her.
The author's description of Bermuda is very picturesque this is a nice summer read or even one to read on those dreary rainy days as you will be taken to a gorgeous island!
I will be reading the rest of the series as they are released as I'd quite like to see what else is in store for some of the characters.

The story:
Raised on the island of Bermuda by her grandfather’s second wife Dre until she was seven, Chloe Canton takes the unexpected inheritance of Dre’s home, Beachside Riding Stables on the island, as a chance to start again after her divorce, redundancy and turning 50.

But when she discovers the body of murdered artist Matthew Georgias while out riding, Chloe finds herself involved in a darker side of the seeming paradise of her new home. When further events suggest that someone is out to sabotage her business, Chloe is determined to stand up for herself and protect her new-found happiness. But in doing so, is she putting her own life in danger?

My thoughts:
Having enjoyed reading “Stone Cold Killing” last year, I was keen to pick up another book by this author. The setting of this story couldn’t be more different — from the gloom of the UK to sunny Bermuda — but the author brings the same quick pace and clever plot to this seemingly idyllic location.

I immediately warmed to Chloe, and it was great to have an over-fifty female protagonist. Despite being downtrodden by her soon-to-be-ex-husband for years (and what a vile character he sounds!), Chloe is determined to make a new start, and save the faltering business that has been entrusted to her. She also has an over-sized dose of curiosity, and she certainly isn’t content to sit back and leave things to the police! The setting in Bermuda is also a novel one for me, and the author clearly has a lot of affection for this amazing sounding place.

As the story progresses, it’s clear that someone is out to sabotage Chloe, but is it linked to the murder? The island is home to a variety of characters, all of whom seem happy to welcome Chloe back as one of their own. So who could possibly want her to fail?

Overall this was a great twisty plot with some endearing characters I’d love to read more about, especially Chloe. I look forward the reading book two of the Bermuda Mysteries, and recommend this to all fans of murder mysteries looking for a more exotic scene of the crime!

An easy read but not as gripping as I was expecting it to be - maybe because I found it predictable and guessed a few things early on.

Plot - It matched the blurb but felt like two stories combined. The setting is beautiful though and made me want to go to Bermuda.

Writing Style - A simple style and I could picture the property and beaches perfectly.

Characters - I liked some of the main characters but felt there were a lot of side characters that I kept forgetting about; I also loved all the animals.

Believability - I struggled with this as I felt there were a few points where Chloe could have offered up information or acted differently.

Pace - It had a steady pace, though I found myself more interested in the stables side of the story and glossed over the gallery side of things.

Ending - I enjoyed the ending and all the ties to the business side of the story, but found myself not bothered about the other story (no spoilers). There seemed a lot of missing information and I didn't care enough about those people.

This is book 1 in the Bermuda Mystery series.

A cozy-ish murder mystery in Bermuda:

Bermuda is one of my favorite places to visit and have done so often. It is strange to read about murders on Bermuda (I am sure they happen) as the island always comes off as not just beautiful but also full of wonderful people and very safe (I guess the same cans be said of all those murder mysteries in small villages and towns across the UK). Anyway, being familiar with the island made the book quite fun to read (and I have the second one in the series to read). In book 1, the main character, Chloe and her attempts to keep up her business while settling in to new (returning) surroundings is a good vehicle for moving the murder mystery along. A blending of storylines generates several red herrings but with so few supporting characters the real culprit seemed fairly obvious before the final scenes. The violence described in the book was minimal though the level of suspense was in key moments ramped up very well. Like many heroines/heroes there is the usual temptation to NOT call the police or request help at critical times - I guess they like to go it alone - and sometimes this action was foolhardy and as such stretched reality a tad. Overall though very likable book. On to Book 2.

The weather is dreary in the UK and spring is taking a long time to rear its head, so what better way to beat the February blues than with a little sunshine, and murder!

When divorcee Chloe leaves London for Bermuda, she's dreaming of sipping Rum Swizzles on the beach. Instead, she finds a famous artist murdered in her new back yard, and Chloe discovers a different side to her Paradise island...

If you're a fan of D.E. White's grittier Detective Dove Milson novels, then this 'Miss Marple meets "Death in Paradise"' novel might be a bit different, but that's what's so great about it. Still filled with the suspense and gripping storylines of her police procedurals, but with a lot more sun and rum thrown in. The characters are memorable and intriguing, and you can't help getting behind Chloe as someone seems out to sabotage her new home. With twists that keep you guessing and a strong sense of setting that makes Bermuda almost a character in itself, this is a lovely read to get you read for summer!

I enjoyed the story of 50 year old Chloe leaving everything in her previous life behind for a new adventure in Bermuda, what an inspiration!
When Chloe arrives in Bermuda to take over her late grandma’s riding stables, she’s ready for a new chapter of her life to start- but the last thing she expects to find is a dead body in the undergrowth.

Chloe’s investigation into what might have happened leads her around the island- and what an island it is! Bermuda is absolutely idyllic in the book, the way of life, the nature surrounding them as well as the sea all around- just perfect. I liked the tourist guide to Bermuda at the end too
The whole book was a joy to read, the plot was entertaining, the murder not too graphic, some good twists along the way - and the island life 🏝️🏖️

Good Cozy Read

Good plot for a cozy. Careful readers will see the main culprit early on, but there are plenty to of Ted herring afoot afterwards that make the eventual truth somewhat of a surprise. I enjoyed the main character and found her to be believable even though at times I wondered if she was just naive or really outright stupid. In the end I found her to just be a very likeable lady who sincerely cared about others enough to overlook their foibles.

One of the hardest books to read. Grammatically, and word-choices, made it difficult to read as my brain picks those things out and makes me re-read it over and over , sometimes to figure out what was the real meaning. I almost gave it one star, but the overall storyline was decent, so it got an extra star

Chloe is still reeling after Mark left her following years of emotional abuse she has little self-confidence and the future is looking bleak. Then she finds she has inherited a property in Bermuda with a business. Seeing a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel she packs her bags and sets off for 'Paradise Island',

Is it all too good to be true?

Soon after arrival Chloe finds that there is a vast amount of work to do if she is going to make a living from the Stables which is on the verge of going under. On a ride out to explore the island she finds a body, it is obvious he has been murdered. Not exactly the peaceful life she had envisaged but Chloe refuses to be beaten.

This is a gripping read with plenty going on and I loved every minute I spent reading it. A crime book but with so much more. Murder, jealousy, revenge, hope, determination and secrets all have a part to play in this book. Lots of twists and turns and shocks along the way to keep the adrenaline pumping. I especially liked the author's afterword with explanations of the areas mentioned in the book.

The characters are realistic and develop well as the story progresses. I love Chloe I think many women who have been in a controlling relationship will identify with her. Antoine also fits very well as a caring man with a deep love for the horses under his care. I wasn't sure about Jonas and Melissa but they grew on me and again fit the story.

Overall an absolutely stunning read that I thoroughly enjoyed from the first page to the last and I highly recommend it. 5 stars from me.

An interesting book, not too hard to guess the perpetrator, but also an interesting view of Bermuda.
