Crank Trilogy

Rate this book
The heart-wrenching bestselling Crank trilogy shows that addiction is never just one person's problem.

Crank

Kristina is the perfect daughter: gifted high school junior, quiet, never any trouble. Then she meets the monster: crank. And what begins as a wild ride turns into a struggle for her mind, her soul—her life.

Glass

Crank. Glass. Ice. Crystal. Whatever you call it, it's all the same: a monster. Kristina thinks she can control it. Now with a baby to care for, she is determined to be the one deciding when and how much, the one calling the shots. But the monster is strong, and before she knows it, Kristina is back in its grip . . . and it won't let go.

Fallout

Nineteen years after Kristina met the monster—crank—her three children are reeling from the consequences of her decisions. Instead of one big, happy family, they are desperate tangle of scattered lives united by anger, doubt, and fear. There is more of Kristina in her children than they would ever like to believe. But when the thread that ties them together brings them face-to-face, they'll discover something powerful in each other and in themselves—the trust, the hope, the courage to begin to break the cycle.

Crank and Glass: my best books of the series...Fallout: not so much. Maybe it's because it's from the children's POV, but if it was from Kristina's it would've been repetitive. I have mixed feelings about the series conclusion in Fallout. But it had the necessary elements for a good (bittersweet) ending.

I think everyone should read this series. I may have once thought that I would've liked to try crank myself, but after reading this series it's definitely helped me to see that that's not such a great idea.

I loved crank, mainly because of how realistic it is. Ellen Hopkins's own daughter is a crank addict which is what I think gives it it's realistic quality. This book clearly demonstrates how easily someone can become dependently hooked on this horrible drug. Trying just once can get you hooked for life. It slowly but surely take over your entire life making you a completely different person than you were before the drug. This is shown in the main character Kristina when she starts referring to herself as "Bree" sometimes, Bree is who the drug turns her into.

I read these books when I was fifteen after a very dark time in my life, and found so much comfort in them. I have not read a book by her that I didn’t like.

These books are bye far the best ones I've ever read. They spoke to me and helped me understand how people who use hard drugs feel and think. Ellen describes it as a monster that consumes your life and destroys everything in its path. Having seen family members get torn down by the drug the books helped me not be so angry at them because it is hard to get away from . On the other hand she thought me to not pity them because it was their choice to do it in the first place and they'll do anything they can to get more including screw over the most important people in their lives. She wrote the books based on her own experience to because her daughter was on meth I felt like I could connect with her. But overall the books were well written and easy to read I never got bored and once I started reading there was no stopping. The first 2 were from the Kristina's perspective an the last one completed the amazing trilogy bye telling us her children's story and struggles

This series is probably my favorite series I've ever read!It was such a fast read, I actually was bummed out when I finally reached the last book "Fallout". It was so difficult to put down (especially while I was reading it at school) and made me think a lot more about why people do drugs or just make the choices they do. I'll more than likely read this series again! EVERY teenager & young adult should read this series.

Really, well written trilogy on the affects of drug addiction on a family. The first books in the trilogy are the best. The third, The fallout is from the children's perspective and not as engrossing. All and all it is worth a read. I also, thought a bittersweet ending was more realistic than a cupcake ending.

Hi, my name is Michael Waldron, I recently read the book Crank by Ellen Hopkins. Did you know that almost 90 thousand people die every year due to drug addiction? This book is about a girl who went on a trip to her father's house and got addicted to a drug called crank. I don’t want to go into much more detail than that in this review because I want you to read it for yourself and see what you think about it. This book really revolves around the main character Bree’s life. This story is formatted very weirdly and can be hard to follow sometimes. If you read this book you will understand what I'm saying.

I thought this book was really interesting. I would recommend this book to anyone. It was an all-around great book. I'm not a big reader so it is really hard for me to read page after page but with this book I found myself struggling to put it down. I really enjoyed reading about the main character, she had so many problems it kind of made you want to read even more because you wanted to know more about her and what she is going through. The book Crank was not my favorite book but it definitely was a good book, it didn’t disappoint me at all. Even though it wasn’t my favorite book it was still really hard to put down I always found myself wanting to read the next page or next chapter.

There were things I did not like about this book. Don’t get me wrong this story was great but for me this book was written in a weird way, it was written like a poem. It’s not that the poems are written in a way that makes it hard to understand, they are written in a weird format it almost makes it hard to follow. For example

“Conversations
Or explanations
I was
Alone”
This is how the entire book is written so if you are into books like this or want to change up your book-style I would definitely recommend this book.

I think the message this book was trying to pass on was the danger of drugs specifically Crank. I also think this book was also written to spread awareness of addiction. This book goes into depth about a meth-addicted girl and her day to day life, it doesn’t just talk about her day to day life it goes into her thoughts and her feelings. The author did a great job explaining what was going on in the main character's head when she was high on Crank.

I think this book would be great for readers that like books that go into very specific detail. I also think this book would be great for readers that are scared to pick up a thick book because even though this book is 530 pages long the pages are very short. I'm not one to get a big book just because I could never see myself staying interested in a book that was over 300 pages but I took a chance on this book and I found myself struggling to put this book down, I found myself losing track of time reading 50 pages at a time without blinking. The book focuses on addiction is a huge problem around the world and I’m positive half the people who see this review have a loved one or known someone who struggled with an addiction to drugs, so this book can help you see these people’s struggles and it can really hit close to home. I would definitely give this book 5 stars because it really got me hooked and I really enjoyed the whole book.

This is the first book I read from Ellen Hopkins and I was immediately hooked. This book really helped me get through a rough time in my life and I hold this close to my heart. The Crank Trilogy is one of my favorites and definitely something I will reread. Ellen Hopkins is one of my favorite authors and she definitely doesn’t disappoint. Her writing style is very unique as the books are written as a free verse poem. I will have these books forever…

I bought all of Ellen Hopkins' books up to Identical and went through them fast. This is the series that is based on the author's own experiences with her daughter, which led her to raise her grandson. Fallout is a satisfying ending but of course you always want more. Glass is my favorite of the three. It's a realistic portrayal of addiction as Hopkins has experienced it herself.

Highly recommend if you want a true story that will keep you hooked, pull at your heart strings, make you mad, sad, and all other emotions. I could not put this down. I could not stop talking about this book to my family for weeks. I want to re read this series once the effects have worn off to feel it all over again.

This was a very emotional series, and definitely brought tears to my eyes. Hopkins is very talented when it comes to putting emotion into her work, and these books are definitely investing. If you're even considering it, READ.

I absolutely recommend reading this trilogy. Crank and Glass take the reader on the journey of a classic "good girl gone bad" scenario. The first two books continuously left me hoping that Kristina would turn her life around. It gets to the point where you realize that it won't happen anytime soon. Her selfishness grows in the first two books, which left me with a strong hatred for the book's main character. The best book, in my opinion, is Fallout. Fallout is a realistic portrayal of the horrors of addiction, and how it can leave loved ones' lives in ruins. For a while, I thought that all of Kristina's children were annoying in some way. As I read on, annoyance turned to sympathy. It dawned on me that every single one of Kristina's children were the way that they were because of her decisions. Abandonment issues left them searching for love and affection in the wrong ways. Abondment left some in living situations that hurt them physically, mentally, and emotionally. This trilogy's conclusion left me sad, but satisfied. Ellen Hopkins excelled at realistically showing the danger of addiction and what it can cause for not only the addict, but everyone in the addict's path. 5 stars!!!!!

This series was the first works of Ellen Hopkins that I ever read, and it definitely will not be the last.
Crank and Glass kept me so hooked, Kristina's story was incredibly interesting to me. Like every teenager, she made some idiotic mistakes, but these were mistakes that left everlasting effects on her many children.
Fallout took me a while to get into, as it took me a while to keep track of each of Kristina's children's names. I loved the ending so much, it was a fabulous end to a great series.

A straight-A, honor roll student visits her father in Reno and becomes incredibly addicted to meth.

This trilogy was jarring. The way Ellen Hopkins writes is something I haven't seen before and it makes the book all the more powerful. I love this book because it shows how quickly addiction can ruin a life, and that nobody is safe from it.

Antony: I got this book from Marija, and I liked it just as much as she did. It was really realistic, and it didn't glamorize any of the problems that came out of drug abuse.

Even though I wasn't as thrilled with the third book and think it should've stayed a duology, the writing pulls me in in all of the books, because the poetic format creates really smooth transitions and it just makes it easy to fly through it, you never want to stop. It illustrates the story in a unique way and often gets right to the point, instead of using a lot of filler and overdescription. And the heartbreaking conclusions that come will probably make a lot of people think twice about trying meth.

My students are fascinated by Kristina's fall from normal, spoiled-white-girl to full blown meth addict. Hopkins' writing is filled with figurative language, so it makes teaching poetic terms to poetry-hesitant adolescents very easy. She also has a nice vocabulary. The topic provides opportunity to do research on several topics (meth, addition, depression, dysfunctional relationships, etc.). Well balanced book to teach teens with low reading interest because it grabs their attention and holds it through all 3 books.

I LOVED this book. It was very poetic and beautiful an odd way that I can't seem to describe. I thought this book was very real, and readable. It was very intriguing to see how Kristina began to lose her self in a rapid way. How ONE person had effected her life so much. How was anybody to know that one trip to her fathers house would ruin so much of what could have been, a SOBER happy life.
