Take a journey through the New England of H.P. Lovecraft and return to many of the locales immortalized in his chilling tales of the Cthulhu Mythos. You will be guided by some of the finest authors of horror fiction, both past and present, as well as many up and coming talents who will take the dark children of Lovecraft into the mellennium. This collection contains works by T.E.D. Klein, Richard Lupoff, Thomas Ligotti, C.J. Henderson, and a rare reprint of a story by the great Lin Carter.
I've grown to recognize that sink feeling when I dread starting on the next story in an anthology, fearing that it will be no better (or even worse) than the one I just finished. I finally skipped ahead to only those "known quantity" writers... and even they were disappointing. (When T.E.D. Klein's story is underwhelming, you know that a Black Swan Event is happening right before your eyes.)
Add to that typographical oddities, straight quotes mixed with curly quotes, widows and orphans...
This looks like a book-like fan-fiction publication. I've read a couple of stories in it by now, and while some are rather unpolished it looks promising.
A Month or Two Later:
I still haven't read all the stories, but it does indeed appear to be uneven and, well, unpolished. And a couple of the stories I know from other publications (also published earlier).
Still, a fairly good collection. A curious must-have for any Lovecraftian;-)
[This is a First Edition, btw. With all the quirky typos:-D)
