Rejected by Hell Hunted by Heaven A destiny written in the stars
Current mood: Over it
Have you ever had the kind of week where you're supposed to be escorting souls to Hell but instead you save a handsome human with some lightning power you didn't know you possessed then end up in a naughty angel's bed?
Well, that's what's new in my life...
And now my unrequited first love has left Hell to search for me before the killing machines of the Demonic Forces or the Angelic Army find me.
Some believe I'm the physical incarnation of a celestial legend, sent to shake up the already shaky truce between Heaven and Hell and save the human race. No pressure.
I failed my Reaper exams and have barely been kissed but that won't stop me from harnessing my powers to claim my divine birthright. All while taking some very tempting men to bed--no matter if they're angels, demons, or anything in between.

C. Rochelle here! I’m a naughty but sweet, introverted, Aquarius weirdo who believes a sharp sense of humor is the sexiest trait, loves shaking my booty to Prince, and have never met a cheese I didn’t like. Oh, and I write spicy Paranormal/Sci-Fi/Monster Why Choose + MM, MFF & MMF romance with dark, naughty humor and a #loveislove mentality.
Ohhhh GUYS I just finished this book and OMG I loved it!😍 This is a fast paced super steamy PNR RH with an alternative history, a slice of urban fantasy and dash of Da Vinci Code vibes. Side note; this does not include Tom Hanks himself but does include one delicious demon, some seriously sinful angels and a very sexy scientific human.😋
I stayed up all night reading this book! I just couldn’t put it down! I was enthralled by the story line, it was interesting and well thought out! I loved Rochelle’s take on angles and demons and the alternative history she created, it was extremely unique and easy to follow. This book hooked me from the start and kept sucked into this universe until the very last page and I LOVED IT!
The MFC Syd is funny and sassy, with a potty mouth we get to see her grow into a badass. I really like watching Syd become more confident in herself as she was led to believe she was a low-ranking demon that no-one knew what her true origins were making her an ‘ambition’ in some eyes leaving her to be a bit of an outcast! So I really enjoyed watch her slowly discover her powers and finding out who she truly is.
I can’t wait to read the rest of this series and see where Syd’s powers leads her and her harem of men.
I started reading this because I saw it won an award for best overall RH (don't quote me on that because I can no longer find the post and am not sure I remember correctly), but I saw the 2nd & 3rd places were authors I truly enjoy. I was ecstatic thinking I had found a new author.
What I want to know is who voted for that award?! I was hustled, scammed, bamboozled, hood winked, lead astray!
But on a more serious/constructive note. I did only read 15% so I don't know if it gets better but what I did read I could not get into. FMC came off as weak and childish, which is a big no no for me. I couldn't get behind how she went off with a complete stranger, one who is actually meant to be her enemy, looking for a safe place. Make that make sense please. It felt like lazy writing, it was just not logical. Also, found the inner thoughts quite cringe.
I am not sure how much experience the author has but this felt to me like a first draft of a first novel and am still confused about that award it won, and really about the high score on Goodreads.
Also I actually just read the blurb, and I can 100% say I would have never given it a try if I had read it before. Just going by it you can tell the book will be all over the place, lacking in structure and depth.
This book was an adventure. This book takes a twist on angels and reapers. Sydelle is the main character who doubts her place in hell. She has felt like she doesn’t fit in but then who is she?
What I like is that this book is more than their physical relationship. Yes their is the tension and physical aspect of it like any good reverse harem but this one is a medium burn. The focus is more on Sydelle and how the guys fit in with her. We see their individual relationships with her and their relationship as a whole with her.
Their are twists and turns throughout the book so there is never a boring moment. The cliffhanger will make you want more because I know I want the next book like now.
Not being the religious type I've never really thought about angels. Yeah Oz had me rethinking that! If all angels are hot, filthy minded and rather insatiable than sign me up!!
Add in a hot academic, a delicious devil and a snarky as all hell girl noone can quite decide where she belongs and you get one hell of a bang (😉)
Book 1 in the wings of darkness and light series is a magical mix of hot and steamy, good vs evil and suspenseful mystery. Just what is Syd? Why does she suddenly have the attention of both heaven and hell?
If you like your angels less than angelic and some side eye at class systems wrapped up in a badass FMC then you'll love this!
I'm not always the biggest fan of paranormal books, generally preferring contemporary. This one might be one that has me changing my mind!
Shadows Spark is the author's debut novel. As such, there is a couple of editorial fixes needed - not that these detract from the story. The writing is good, I was quickly hooked into the story, and was very much invested in the characters. I enjoyed several unique aspects of the story, and the ending left me wanting more! Looking forward to the next book, and any further books this author puts out.
Firstly, my opinion on angels surely has changed. I thought they would be nice, cute and helping supernaturals having vanilla sex, but oh no I was so wrong. The angel is a devil in sex and if that doesn't increase the appeal, I don't know what does. Secondly, @CRochelle surely knows how to give a heartattack! Killing one, letting the other one be taken away & the ending!! What a cliffhanger! Ugghhh!!!!!!! I can't express how many exclamation marks I really mean to use! Thirdly, the characters are amazing. The female lead grows and finds herself and shows strength and love. The men are too irresistible; not only rich in appearance, but also in personality and intelligence and I can't wait for more..
There are angels, demons and humans. The story not only involves tons of sexual tension and release, but also gives importance to the dynamics of the new forming relationships. A reverse harem relationship isn't cakewalk, especially when they are supposed to be enemies. Every aspect is given the same amount of significance. The twists and turns are very curvy, so prepare yourself for a rollercoaster ride and be ready to scream.
There are some parts where you'll be wondering how everything is happening so fast, but remember, this is paranormal and everything here is fated and meant for a reason. The writing initially will be a bit confusing, but you'll get the hang easily.
~~~~~~ Sydelle is a demon, an Usher, i.e; she lies in the lowest tier in the Soul Regiment of the Demonic Forces of Hell. Initially, she doesn't understand her powers but as the story continues she becomes more aware and grows into a powerful, badass female.
Oz is an angel and has been alive even before the age of Cleopatra. He's funny, caring, protective, scary (when he has to be), sex crazed but also thoughtful and knowledgeable.
Gage is a demon and has been Syd's friend since the beginning. He's a bit possessive and daunting but loves Syd with all his heart.
Brian is a human, an anthropologist of Angelic, Demonic, and ancient Egyptian societies. Exactly the kind of guy you'll want to have forever-- smart, ever excited for new things, lets you to take the lead and always loving.
The fourth person is a secret which is revealed during the end and so you have to read this book to find out, but hint: he's extremely loyal and is someone's friend. ~~~~~ I was totally invested in the plot and am desperately waiting for the sequel!!! (!×7319)
𝗔 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 & 𝗮𝗯𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱!
Ps: I'm calling dibs on Oz so everyone else please back away.♡
Shadow Spark is the first book of the Wings of Darkness + Light series. This is a spicy and emotionally fierce paranormal reverse harem book that I absolutely enjoyed reading. I was sucked in right from the beginning when our FMC Syd makes a decision that goes against what was ingrained into her work. Syd is unsure where is she belongs after failed attempts fitting in where she was initially taken in. She doesn't have any memory of where she came from, only that she was found wandering aimlessly in Hell's badlands. She was taught to despise angels as they were the bad guys, but that's not quite how this plays out. There is an unknown grey area where good and evil are concerned.
Syd has an initial connection that draws her to each man in her harem, a tethering pull that she can't quite explain in the beginning. Oz the angel, Gage the demon and Brian the human. It is fast-paced and intense how Syd comes to be with her men throughout the story and the relationship she builds with them as she learns more about herself. With the help of her men, Syd begins the journey of learning not only who she is, but what she is and her purpose in the world. When forced with no other option, she is willing to do whatever it takes to protect her men and fulfill her purpose.
I fell completely in love with this series! The awesome way Syd finds how to fuel her powers, the great relationship between she and her champions... The story so different from others... Can't wait for book two!
I absolutely loved this book it had me hooked from the first chapter !! The characters were great it had great humor and hot steamy scenes. I absolutely can not wait for the next 2 books!
A captivating story about Syd and her men, Oz, Gabe, and Bryan, and their adventure in discovering who she is. I couldn't put the book down needing to know what happened next. I can't wait for the sequel.
This is a unique take on good vs evil. Angels and demons walk among us in the story and there is a class system among them. Syd is not sure of her past, which means she will be something awesome and unique. She grows a lot throughout the book too. Gains her confidence and trusts her feelings more.
The harem guys are all different and add something to her. The naughty angel helps her feel confident, the sweet demon comfort hers, the human enlightens her and the reluctant one... well I think he will liven her up but it’s too soon to tell.
Oz grew on me too. At first he was very cocky and insensitive, but his feelings for Syd change him. It will be interesting as well to see his relationship with Cayden grow into more. That’s right seems some MM is on the horizon.
Overall the book introduces us to the world, characters and sets to the battle for the next book. It has a slight cliffhanger I suppose. But the second book is out soon so you won’t have to wait too long.
Unique and captivating. Multiple POVs. Med heat. MM to build. If you are looking for an unique take on Angels and demons then grab this book!
*I received a copy of this book from the Author for my honest and genuine feedback*
What a ride!
I truly enjoyed the beginning of this series! This new author definitely is on my to-watch list!
We follow Sydelle as she ponders the questions that I truly related with - who am I , what is my purpose and why am I different?
It is reverse harem and I truly enjoyed the dynamics between the group as a whole and their individual relationships.
I absolutely adored the men! Each character has a unique voice and really contributed to the plot.
Unlike some RH books, this book is truly enhanced by the RH.
There are a lot of references to Heaven and Hell (duh) but I found it fresh in what can be a over-troped subset. Each "side" was unique and intersting.
This was a great start to a new series. Sometimes I struggle to get through the first book in a series because not much happens. But not this book! Stuff didn't stop happening!
There was lots of sex, lots of action. There wasn't much world building so there still a few minor things I don't understand, but I understood enough to enjoy the story. And I found the storyline different enough to make it stand out from other paranormal reverse harems. I read the whole book in one sitting. I can't wait to see how the series progresses!
Sooo Hot!! Forbidden love, angels and demons, sassy heroine with secret magical powers....loved this book! The character development is well timed. The pace draws you in and keeps you hooked page after page. I couldn’t read it fast enough wanting to know what was going to happen next. Syd is the badass role model we need right now. I loved the biblical references to angelic hierarchies/folklore and the original way the author built the world in the most sacrilegious way! The story feels unique and clever. Can’t wait to read the next one!!
Wow! What a fantastic book! This book has a very unique storyline that I loved and that kept me intrigued throughout. I loved this story’s take on Heaven and Hell and Angels and Demons. The characters are amazing. The guys are sinfully sexy and Syd is one hell of a strong FMC. I would absolutely recommend this book and I cannot wait for the next book!
Ugh. Maybe the unicorn that I’m searching for just doesn’t exist. This one had a lot of potential...the premise was intriguing, and the world of the city Avarice and the different factions was interesting...but then some man-whore Angel swooped in and fucked it up.
How do you write an Angel as some womanizing scum bag who gets deep throated by hookers in alleyways and then expect people to believe he is suddenly a big cuddly teddy bear over some demon chick he met for five minutes?
And I’m confused...are angels and demons enemies or not? Why are they soldiers? Who are they up against? Why does the Angel fly around his own house? How high are his ceilings?
Ugh. I have sifted through piles and piles of PNR Rh books and they are all just so bad lately. No continuity, no real depth...just goofy characters written like a bad porno script.
And the worst part is this author CAN write. There were flashes here and there - amid the chaotic pacing and the break neck switchbacks between characters - of real talent. Moments where I thought “oh this book could be soooo good...”
I have a theory that indie authors these days use the gimmick of sex and shenanigans to sort of pad their books because they are afraid their true effort...really putting a story out there without all the naked hot guys...might not be received as happily. Romance readers are notoriously forgiving for the most part. But, dear Author if you ever read this review, please consider writing an urban fantasy that focuses more on plot and story and character development than it does on what’s happening in homegirl’s panties. I think you’d do really well.
First time reading this author and I'm so happy I did. The world of Syd and her group sucked me in on a surprisingly slow burn RH adventure. What a refreshing twist! Impatiently awaiting the next one in the series.
This is a paranormal RH about angels and demons. Not even close to your typical angels and demons though. I’ve read a lot of books with A&D but this is nothing like what I’ve read before. It was so damn good I didn’t want to put it down. There were so many twists and turns, I wasn’t sure what was going to happen. Constantly surprised. Laughed my ass off at times. This is a fast paced story but easy to follow.
Sydelle is the heroine. She was lead to believe she was a lowly demon with no memories from her early life. Until she starts meeting people and figuring out her powers and realizing she is someone very special. You see her go from a shy insecure demon to a badass sexy hellcat. I can’t wait to read more to see her powers and relationships grow.
Amazing from the very first page I was riveted. I love the dynamic between the guys and with every little bit that is revealed I fall in love with the characters even more
"In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different." ~Coco Chanel
This is my first story by C. Rochelle. Warning: ends in a Cliffhanger
Finding yourself is not easy. Sydelle struggled to fit in the Underworld. She was working a dead-end (pun-intended) job and started to lose all sense of belonging. As it turns out, she is more special than she thought.
After arriving on the Surface, She first meets Oz, an angel warrior, who instantly fell for our FMC. Definitely, not what you'd expect from an angel, let's just say, he's sinfully delightful.
We have Gage. He is our FMC's childhood best friend. He found her when they were younger, they grew up together and kept his love for her a secret.
Next is our wildcard, Brian. he's a human who studies anthropology. In the beginning, he was in a dark place. Syd saved his life. I'm not gonna lie, he threw me off a bit. But, kind of an adorable addition.
There is one more, but hopefully it will be explored in the next book.
I felt that there could have been more world building. Our FMC seemed real naive and too trusting for most of the book. Especially, after meeting Oz. I totally get they are "fated mates", but 2 seconds after meeting Oz, she told him a lot of information. For living in the underworld and being taught that they are the enemy, it was just odd for me.
Other than that, it was an enjoyable read. Hope to read more by this author.
Odd book. I was a bit intrigued when I started, although there is zero to any world building so it left always wondering what kind of world these characters are living in. As I read on i hear of battles humans witnessed in the past, drugs that sound angelic, and random humans being seen by angels and demons but I don't get the grasp of it, just tiny breadcrumbs that lead to more breadcrumbs. The guys in this RH are odd, I loved the angel oz, his character by far was the best, the others not so much, maybe the demon? But the human? And another Angel at the end, made zero sense. The nicknames baby girl and princess were cringy at best, and the virgin who all the sudden straddles men and takes slung down the throat like a pro was in its self way too confusing. Many contradictions, way to much story without an actual storyline, I found myself skipping at 70% while all he'll seemed to be breaking loose with mind boggling direction I cut to the end unimpressed. Not for me
It was a good start to the series. I would have like see a bit more world building but what I did read was good and a interesting approach to angels and demons. There is quiet a bit of steam which is nice! In the beginning I did feel the Dialogue was a little awkward but got better over the course of the book. Keep it up! Can’t wait for book 2
Really enjoyable book with a unique premise. Excellent world building and character development. Lots of feels. I look forward to the next part of the series. Definitely recommend.
I found a new paranormal reverse harem romance series to drool over! Shadows Spark is the first book of the Wings Of Darkness And Light series and it was so much fun to read! I love chaos, dark humor, spice, and a good paranormal story. It was to give this first book 5 stars. The cliffhanger was hard but luckily the spice was able to make up for it and I was able to pick up book 2 right away.
I could go on and on about the MC and her harem. Syd turns into a badass, Gage (ugh), Oz is so fun, and Bryan is freaking adorable! I loved the different dynamics between all the characters and you WILL fall in love with the side characters (Grazi is my spirit animal). The spice is at a good smolder level and @c.rochelle_author knows how to make a girl blush. Pointing out the hypocrisy of heaven and hell was the icing on this spicy cake.
From the author’s description:
The Wings of Darkness + Light is an alternate history that imagines "What if angels and demons walked among us?"
This is a steamy, medium-burn (heat index 3-4) paranormal romance with an urban fantasy setting and a reverse harem that builds over time. Our heroine is a force to be reckoned with and never has to choose just one man.
MMFM (for now) Multiple POV
This series is meant for readers 18 and over. The book ends on a mild cliffhanger.
Possible triggers: Sweary dialogue Graphic sex Plenty of side-eye toward the Old and New Testament and societal class systems Brief mention of contemplated suicide
Heard about this author and books on Book-Tok. I enjoyed this trilogy very much. There is a solid plot with a storyline that moves easily throughout each book and doesn’t lag. Good humor and very nice steamy scenes. Nice to find an author that writes well and gives good smut. 🤣
Warnings or Encouragements! Standard things...
Reverse Harem, book 1 is a medium-burn with 3 guys, a 4th added in book 2.
For people that like to be warned off of or maybe looking for 😉 there is M/M towards the end of book 2 and continuing in book 3.
Enjoyable heroine with well balanced badass and squishy center.
All 4 Hero’s are developed well with distinct personalities. Nice balance of Alpha’s & Betas, funny & sexy.
Angels, Demons, Humans...and a Goddess, OH MY! I found it fun and interesting the way the author plays with history and religion. I love history, and know quite a LOT about academic & religious history. Kudos to this author for her knowledge and/or research.
Things I would have liked added: More group steamy scenes, like the whole group. Epilogue had one kinda. The pre-final battle power up could have been an epic one! I was hoping they would find a way to reverse the Angel’s family “problem”.
Very much looking forward to the authors next series!
C Rochelle has quickly become an Insta but author for me. She knows how to write fierce women, broody & gorgeous men and killer smut.
This book absolutely blew me away! The story that Corinne is telling is sensational. It’s unique to me and not something I have read before so it gripped me from the get go. I love Syd. She’s a strong women who doesn’t muck about! She follows her heart & her intuition and doesn’t apologise for who she is. Reading her coming into her powers and learning more on who she is was so well done. It’s at the perfect pace to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout this book!
The spice with the men is 🥵🥵 I’m looking forward to Syd’s harem expanding and getting even more heated in the sack 😜
In true style, Corinne hits us with a beautiful cliff hanger that’s not too suspenseful we’re plotting our revenge, nor so boring we’re forgetting it in a couple of days. Bring on book 2!!
I'm going to start out by saying that Reverse Harem is not my cup of tea, so it may have skewed my thoughts on this book.
Okay, so for me, I found Shadows Spark a bit hard to read. It's told in the first person narrative, but the constant internal thought was jarring for me to read and didn't really make sense.
I loved the premise of the story and the characters. You've got Oz, an angel that seemed more like a demon. And Syd, who is a gentle demon. The steam factor was 🔥🔥🔥😘, but I guess I was just hoping for more world-building and explanation as to why or how certain things happened.
I really enjoyed this first book! Being a reverse harem fanatic, this it a great beginning to that.
I can't wait to see what more comes along in the life of Syd.
I really need to be able to imagine myself in the story to be hooked and this had it all. A heroine coming out of her shell with the help of her champions. Sexy men and detailed enough sweaty scenes.( I do hope they get jucier though!) A good storyline. And enough bad guys for me to hope Syd gets the revenge every badass female main character deserves!
