I needed more of this manga in my life. I don't know why, but this is one of the most ridiculous comedies that brings a smile to my face every chapter. Some are certainly hit or miss in terms of quality, but even the lesser ones make me smile.

The artwork continues to impress and while the characters don't really gain any more depth (at this point I would be shocked if they did) we do see bits and pieces of what happened to them prior to the start of the series.

Favorite chapter: Miku and Tatsu see a live Policure show (her favorite anime). Tatsu joins the show as a volunteer, and decades to solve the conflict in a traditional Yakuza fashion.

Another solid volume in a series. 4/5 stars.

This is probably one of the hardest manga to write a review for because it's so simple in terms of writing and plot, but it's HILARIOUS. I don't think this is a manga where you're going to get a lot of character or plot development, but what is present is a fun and easy story about the day to day life of Tatsu and his role as a househusband. From dressing up as Santa Claus to attempting to fight off a cockroach, each chapter is full of fun and humor. It's clear that Tatsu cares deeply for Miku and he's doing his best to make her happy. I'll definitely be continuing with the series. If you haven't checked it out yet make sure you do so!

Three volumes based on what one reviewer of the last volume identified correctly as a long-running Dad joke?! Yet here I am, smiling. In this one Tatsu, aka The Immortal Dragon, a (former) high-ranking Yakuza gang member now turned househusband, is visited by his former boss, who clearly will insist he return to his former life! But no, he just needs help with feeding a dog, so Tatsu whips up a creation to get him to begin eating again.

We really don't know anyone well except him in the story, though his pretty ordinary and nice wife provides a foil for him as he struggles to change his way of thinking from his former thug life. He dabbles in latte art in his new part time job, and makes signature desserts (strawberry parfait!) to impress some rival mob mosses; he works with a mentee (also a former Yakuza) to do apron art, and bake character buns in a rice cooker; he begins teaching a class to pass on all he's learned. He participates in a Policure (popular anime character) show in a mall. When his wife and assistant fail to get a birthday party together in his honor, he does the party himself!

Pretty funny stuff!

A new volume of this series is basically a guarantee you'll laugh your guts out.

Our former Yakuza, current househusband main character gets into more hilarious misunderstood situations to entertain it readers. There are also a couple of new additions to the cast from his former life that like him are tackling the mundane post-gangster life with the same intensity as they did when they were at the top of the shady underworld.

Netflix adapted this manga into an anime. Based on the trailer, it got the funny right.

Volume 2 dipped a little bit for me, but Volume 3 was so funny and cute! I'd say I enjoyed this volume just about as much as the first one (i.e., a whole freakin' lot), and I really loved how much more we got to see of Immortal Dragon's wife, who is a raging badass. Honestly, her ridiculous levels of angry feistiness combined with her obsession with cutesy, childish things? Relatable.

Yes, this is still top notch comedy. Brilliant concept perfectly executed. I laughed out loud at almost every chapter.

The single joke in this manga -- a former yakuza tough guy is now a doting househusband -- has been stretched about as thin as possible now, and the creator doesn't seem much interested in developing the cast as actual characters beyond their initial quirks.

It should be time to stop, but I am intrigued by the introduction of the widow of a yakuza boss who now works in a grocery store. I have a sad feeling that too will be run into the ground by next volume.

THIS IS FREAKING ADORABLE!

I will not get tired of saying how adorbs this series is! Augh! This is more comedy than romance despite the setting. But I love Tacchan and Miku's chemistry! THEY'RE SO CUTE TOGETHER, I MEAN, I'M NOT HERE FOR THE ROMANCE BECAUSE THERE REALLY ISN'T BUT DAMN, WHEN MIKU WENT HOME RESTLESS BECAUSE OF HER TIGHT SHIFT AND TACCHAN WENT ON HIS WAY TO PREPARE LOTS OF RELAXING IDEAS TO PAMPER HIS WIFE I MEAN COME ON, MIKU WAS LIKE SHE DIDN'T NEED ANYTHING OF THAT, JUST SEEING TACCHAN SMILE WAS ENOUGH. I MEAN, WHAT THE HELL, I DON'T NEED ROMANCE RIGHT NOW BUT MY HEART IS BEATING SO FAST I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. I DON'T DESERVE THE FLUFF DON'T PAMPER ME OONO BUT THANK YOU! THIS IS REALLY WHOLESOME. okay, I'll shut up now.

Every now and then I read a Kindle version of a graphic novel. Mostly to see if it can work. In the case of The Way of the Househusband, Vol. 3 Kindle & comiXology, it was not too bad, and somewhat cheaper. Kindle has no colors, mostly The Way is black and white. A reader need not get too balled up in the book being printed right to left. Kindle handles pagination. I tended to read pages once right to left and again left to right. Most pages tended to work either way.

This is my third The Way of the Househusband. The set up is that our protagonist, Tatsu is a retired major criminal, a former Yakuza. Tatsu retired under the name of The Immortal Dragon with a very violent reputation. He is now the husband of a working wife and still brings his intensity and gangster vocabulary to the job of housekeeping.

This is basically a one note comedy, but it is all in fun. Perhaps some of the aspects of the satire do not translate well. Just accept that Tatsu was very intense, extremely loyal to his crime bosses and was a ranking criminal. Now, he is all that when fighting a cockroach (The Black Bullet) who has invaded Tatsu’s turf.

I had not intended to follow up on this manga, but is makes for lite entertainment. There is at least one nice chuckle per book. Popcorn for the mind, minus the butter and salt, plus a smile or three.

Our retired-Yakuza-turned-househusband needs to make some cash so as to buy his wife a birthday present. Shenanigans ensure. How he takes care of his wife is really sweet, though things do not also go as planned. Reading this manga made me hungry.

In this volume, Tatsu attempts to deal with a cockroach, volunteers to be Santa, tries to help his wife relax after a long day at work, takes on a part-time job, bakes bread, and more. He meets a few other people from his yakuza past, including a yakuza boss's widow who's trying to live a normal life but having trouble adjusting her behavior and mindset (so, basically the female version of Tatsu).

This volume was a relief after the previous one, with better jokes and more chapters showing Tatsu interacting with his wife. Also, Oono's depictions of children were much better this time around - no distractingly "off" facial features, and their stunned/mesmerized expressions were amusing and made me think of the students in Azumanga Daioh watching Yukari-sensei doing or saying yet another weird or stupid thing.

This time around I actually liked almost all of the chapters. The one exception was maybe the weird AU bonus in which Tatsu was a teacher and all the other characters were his students, but even that one wasn't too bad.

My favorite moments in the chapters were the various tough guys enjoying cute/pretty things (like cute cafe foods and dog sweaters), as well as the chapter in which Tatsu went on-stage during the Policure show because his wife wanted to do it but couldn't bring herself to volunteer.

The energy and humor in this volume was great, but considering the previous volume, I'm not sure whether this means that the author has finally found their groove in this series or whether this was just a fluke. I think it'd be worth continuing this series, but I'll probably do it via interlibrary loan requests rather than purchases.

Extras:

Includes a recipe for fluffy omelet rice, as depicted in the manga. Sadly, there is no corresponding recipe for the bear-shaped bread.

I simply love the humor of this series even though it might be a bit repetitive for others! I wish they’ll show how Tatsu and Miku met soon!

3.5 stars, rounded up. There's not a lot of character development here (maybe I should not expect character development from a gag manga), but most of the vignettes made me laugh--like Chapter 24, when Tatsu volunteers for a Crimecatch Policure show because Miku wants her picture taken with the cast.

The Immortal Dragon steps in for Santa Claus, saves his own birthday party and takes care of a dog. All this and more in the deadly serious art style of a yakuza drama. Still working just fine in Vol 3.

This was another great one and its pretty much him going through the motions like working in some stoore to get money and that comedy there of him serving two Yakuza members is golden and then a meeting with boss or salvaging his birthday party celebrations by his wife and the whole ordeal with Masa and meeting Hibari Torii, the matriarch of Tori Yakuza clan and the supermarket fiasco there, thoroughly laughed throughout the manga! ItS ONE OF THE BEST COMEDY GAG manga there is and just is a good time reading it! Plus the art of the cooked meals will bring water in your mouth, its so well done!!

Immortal Tatsu's househusband days continue. I enjoy it a lot, especially the humor, even if it's miniscule, but it's there, and it makes me smile. Tatsu met his old boss and another clan member. They, just like him, turned a new page in ordinary civilian life. There is more to it than being just a gangster. Also Tatsu got his birthday 🥳. It was simple yet sweet. Let's see what other volumes will bring.

love it

stand out chapter is when tatsu meets with his old boss for some serious thing i guess, but the whole meeting gets derailed bc both men are super whipped for the boss's dog LOL

anyways despite his scary appearances tatsu is a hit with the ahjummas and why wouldn't he be?? man can cook, clean, bake, and murder you with just a stare

This is hilarious!! This is the story of a gang leader turned househusband. He takes care of his wife, who is a teacher (I'm pretty sure) and has long days. He's really sweet but intimidating. That creates hilarious conflicts between him and other characters. I really loved this and will totally read again in the future, after reading volumes 1 and 2, which I have not read yet.

Thanks to VIZ Media via NetGalley for the ARC!!
