Thorn & Ash is the second part in the newest series by R.L. Perez. I really liked the first part Ivy & Bone. This whole series is a Hades and Persephone retelling and I really like it so far. But what will R.L. Perez have in store for the readers?

After that spectacular ending in book 1, I was left breathless wanting to know the outcome of both Prue and Mona. When one hears about sibling love, especially sisterly love, one knows how to picture it, the fun, the laughter, the tears, the solidarity, the protectiveness. But for Mona and Prue, their sibling love transcends even the realms, the one between the living and the dead. The bond these two share is a thing of beauty, what they are prepared to do, the lengths they go through, the sacrifices they make to save and protect each other, fills me up with warmth. Sisterhood is sacred, or is it?

When does good intent equal good outcome? Prue definitely didn't think she'd end up, well, where she was. She had to dig hard and deep to get herself out of a really baaaddd situation. Cyprus, a Prince of the underworld and now her husband, make it even more different for Prue, he's not what he appeared to be. Don't get me wrong, he is a good guy buttttt, yeah, the but will be revealed when you read it. I love Prue's strength and determination, nothing will keep her from saving those she loves. Only thing is, there are so many obstacles in her way. How does she discern who is genuine and who is not? The finding out was really a ride!

Mona also stops at nothing to save her sister, even relinquishing something vital of herself. Oh boy is the underworld an onerous place to traverse! Yet even in such a desperate place, there is beauty, there is love to be found and truths to be discovered, which both sisters do admirably, a bit after the fact, but still. I loved their journey, I travelled right alongside them throughout this perilous adventure.

Truths, half truths and surreptitious agendas are revealed that took my breath away, a lot of which I was clueless to until it presented itself. Evander and Cyrus are two wonderful characters, warm, caring, complex prince's, who are desperate to stop the tide of destruction of the underworld but both are battling forces that threaten to overwhelm them. I loved the flashbacks to the past, where one gets to really understand Evander, his motivation his need, his fear and his love.

This book is everything I could wish for, a journey into the underworld, a meeting with Prince's of darkness, their struggles, their battles, their needs and two very headstrong sisters who refuse to lie down and accept everything thrown at them. An unusual take on Hades and Persephone and the underworld, a highly recommended read, but then again, everything Ms Perez produces is highly recommended.

"From here to eternity, my soul will always find yours. No matter where you are."

This is the follow up to the first book of Ivy & Bone and is a continuation of the Hades and Persephone retelling with witches, demons, goddesses and princes of the Underworld. Its dual timelines to begin and multiple POV.

Keeping true to the Ivy & Bone underlying theme, Throne & Ash is once again a true demonstration about the love and bond of sisterhood, and the lengths they will go to save one another. Mona is now determined to rescue Prue and Prue is determined to help save Cyrus as well as the Underworld itself.

While we still get the love story between Prue and Cyrus, we also get Mona and Evanders background story, plus their reunion in the underworld after her resurrection. We learn more about the other princes of Hell, as well as the residents of the Underworld and that things are not as they appear. There’s some unexpected twist that set up for the third book and one is a pretty big reveal!

I’m hoping for more with Romanos and to learn all about Pandoras origins and what happens with Trivia.

Talk about a nail biting ending full manipulation and betrayal. It ends with shocking cliffhanger(s) that leaves everyone's life in peril with no salvation in sight.

Thank you once again to the author for the chance to read the series as eARCS.

Tropes:
- dark paranormal romance
- Witches , goddesses & the dev himself
- Hades & Persephone retelling
- Dual timelines & multi POVs

Favorite Quotes:
- "Don't you think I would give up anything-anything-to be with you? I love you, Prue! And I am doing my damndest to overcome this so I can crown you as my queen!"
- "From here to eternity, my soul will always find yours. No matter where you are."

Mona has been resurrected by Prue’s goddess powers and now she is determined to go back to the Underworld and save Prue from the darkness that has taken over Cyrus. In doing so she has to give up all her memories but those of Prue so she can find her. She re meets Evander but now doesn’t remember him but he still comes to her aid. Prue is a prisoner but her jailer recognizes the power of who and what she says she is and frees her. She meets a goddess who promises to help her and while the sisters are trying to get together, the whole realm is being destroyed all around them.

This book chronicles the exciting journeys both sisters have while in the Underworld and lets us know just who this goddess is that both sisters meet up with separately!

It’s an exciting tale that will keep you turning the pages just as fast as you can to find out what happens next! There is loyalty from some and betrayal from others but throughout it all a very captivating and enjoyable read you will remember as it leaves you waiting anxiously for the next book in the series, Oak & Ember, to be released!

I have really enjoyed this story thus far and enthusiastically recommend it to all those who love paranormal romance and an exciting and intriguing story line! A new wrinkle is thrown into the mix in this book so it will be interesting to see if this new person will be able to be redeemed by these two sisters and their friends! One would hope so since what happened to her was not of her own choosing!

It’s a new take on the battle between good and evil- light verses darkness. Get caught get up in this story today by getting these first two books, Ivy & Bone and Thorn & Ash!

I love this authors writing! I have been an ARC reader for R.L. Perez for a while. I love all her books.
This series is no exception.
We have more of the sisters story in this book, her back story as well as multi POV between a few of them.

Perfect follow up to Ivy & Bone. I loved the addition of Mona and Evander's perspective. And I love that ultimately this is still about the lengths sisters will go to save each other. There continues to be twists I don't see coming in this series and the ending of this one was just as good as book 1...had me racing for book 3 immediately.

What a fantastic continuation from the first book. Rachel weaves her magic and continues with the story of Mona and Prue and their adventures in Hades. The story is full of magic and mystery, love and hate and draws you in until you can put it down!

Thank you R.L.Perez and Willow Haven Press for sending me a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

(Potential spoilers if you plan to read Ivy & Bone)

This second book hits the ground running with action and tension that doesn’t let up!

Cyrus is being held captive by a powerful entity he can’t control. He has imprisoned Prue, his wife, without any sense of empathy. I like that Prue is smart enough to know something is wrong and it isn’t really Cyrus holding her captive.

In this book the sister’s roles are reversed. Where Prue was trying to rescue Mona from the Underworld in book 1, now Mona is risking her second chance at life to save Prue! To do so, Mona must make a great sacrifice.

I am SO glad we get flashbacks to when Mona was a wayward spirit in the Underworld, and that we got to see her’s and Evander’s love blossom during that time. Evander feels a sense of responsibility for Mona’s spirit, but quickly becomes protective of her. These moments we get to see make Mona’s sacrifice of her memories more tragic and painful!

Evander is under a curse, constantly in a power struggle with the dark creature inside him. In a way it seems like he is a prisoner to the beast. He feels weak in comparison to his brothers, who have let the darkness control them. Evander is determined to not be like them.

There are two storylines occurring at different times.
Prue is desperate to free her husband from the power that holds his consciousness and body captive.
Cyrus try’s to fight for Prue from within. But he fears he isn’t strong enough.
Evander struggles against letting his inner demon free.
Mona just wants to find her sister, but also has grown an attachment to Evander.

The writing style is easy to read. The author knows how to build tension between characters!

This second book takes place in the Underworld, each character going about their own plans simultaneously, each not knowing what the others are doing. AND IT STRESSED ME OUT! But it all comes together in the end when they discover the power that is slowly destroying the realm.

Prue and Cyrus travel to Tartarus. How it’s described is truly terrifying. Imagine darkness surrounding you and you can’t rely on your most of your senses.

One thing leads to another and a powerful magic is released that threatens to destroy the Underworld for good.

This is a solid continuation with the introduction of new characters that will raise the stakes even higher!

This book picks right up where Ivy & Bone left off, after the cliffhanger from the last one I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book.  This book follows both sisters on separate journeys, Prue has become her husband Cyrus’ prisoner and she is not only trying to gain her freedom but also free the man she loves but also the citizens of The Underworld from darkness.
Mona's journey to save Prue from Cyrus and the underworld.  We also get to see the time Mona spent in The Underworld before her resurrection and we see how her and Evander’s relationship blooms and how they learn how to accept themselves the way they are.
The alternating time lines were written so well and it is very easy going back and forth between time times.
There is so much action, drama and suspense which will keep you wanting more. Wonderful world building this book was definitely a page turner and I highly recommend it.
I was given this ebook as an ARC for my honest review.

I would like to thank R.L. Perez for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book as an ARC.

This book takes place right where the last one left and also back to where Mona's story starts.

Mona lost her life to save the other witches in her village and her twin sister. And in the previous book we see Prue trying to bring Mona back but we have no story when it comes to Mona. So we see where Mona ends up and how she meets Evander.

Evander is one of the kinder souls that is on his plane. His brothers are the worst and treat him terribly, but he finds some solace with Mona. I loved watching the bond grow between them.

Prue is trying to figure out what is going on with Cyrus and why he change when they bonded. He completely changed and she has no clue what happened. I was so lost with this too like what happened, he loved Prue and is acting like she isn't his wife.

Cyrus is consumed by a dark power and doesn’t know what happened. He's still there in his body but can't come forward. He is missing Prue desperately and needs to find a way back to her.

And Mona is on a mission to find her sister, and after what her sister did to bring her back she needs to find her.

This story gives the point of view from Mona, Evander, Prue and Cyrus which is awesome because we see how Mona bonds with Evander while we also see what happens with Prue and Cyrus.

I really enjoyed seeing all the points of view and seeing where this story took us. Seeing Mona try so hard to find her sister. Also seeing Prue trying to get her husband back.

Prue is trying to save the plane and save all the other planes too because if one of the planes gets destroyed then everything else gets destroyed.

It seems ad if everyone is trying to save someone in this book and is understandable with everything going on.

It was a really good story and I'm so mad that it ended the way that it did and I have to wait for the next book to see where the story goes.

This book picks up where Book 1 ends. You will need to read Book 1 first because Book 2 has two storylines going on.

This book focuses on Prue who is currently being held as Cyrus's prisoner only he is current being possessed by an escape prisoner named Kronos. Prue's focus is on escaping her prison and saving her husband as well as the inhabitants of the Underworld.

We also get to read about Mona's stint in the Underworld where she meets Cyrus's brother Evander before she is resurrected.

Evander is the prince of hell who keeps to himself. He is constantly bullied and harassed by his older brothers who think he is weak but unbeknownst to them Evander is one of the d3adliest of them all.

In this book we see Mona's journey after death and how her and Evander's relationship blossoms. Then we get a glimpse of Mona's life and the decisions she makes after resurrection in hopes to now save Prue

This story is all about sacrifice and fighting for the ones you love. Both Prue and Mona's adventure began because one sister was trying to save the other. A true testament of sisterhood.

Prue and Mona has faced insurmountable odds to save one another and finding mates along the way was an added bonus. Cyrus and Evander fight with everything in themselves to protect their mates from the horrors of the underworld, including the demons they have within.

Talk about a nail biting ending full of Action, Manipulation and Betrayal. Prepare yourself for a shocking Cliffhanger that leaves everyone's life in peril with no salvation in sight.

I….do….not….like…the….way….the….2…. sisters…stories….are….handled….here.

I waited and waited and did not want to start this book till the 3rd one dropped but I just ran out of material so I had to dive in. And I was just…disappointed. The chopped storytelling between these two sisters with the time view change in the past just did not work for me. I wanted either or here. Just give us the story of the sister in the 2nd book or give us more of the main h from the 1st book and then merge it all in this one glorious finale in the 3rd book. The way we get some of the 1 sister and some of the other sisters and both of them have their own boy-drama going on it just took away so much interest and impact that should be left with the reader.

Every time the viewpoint switched just as the story was getting interesting with the 1 couple it would take me out of that momentum they were building and I would lose focus cuz I would have to switch over to the other couple again and again.

The story had potential and word-building and it was set for success, but chopping it up like that really hurt it… I just wanted to like it and love it and live in it and now I have to wait for the next book. Boooo :(

I just hope I remember this whole thing when book 3 drops cuz I need to finish this series. Annnnd I totally drifted off there towards the end (it's all that veiw point shifting I just could not get into it) so I am not even sure how things turned out with the big blow-up. Not sure even if the sisters ended up reuniting…

Oh My Goodness!!!! This story was amazing. It is jammed packed with action, drama, and suspense. It has expanded on a mystery that leads us on a major journey with Prue and Mona. Prue has to endure a lot while learning about the underworld. Mona was a tiny bit harder to connect with but as the story progressed I started really like her. Both girls are definitely kind and caring but strong at the same time. We have some definite surprises in this book. It really was mind blowing. The story is extremely well written and developed. It has amazing descriptions that give such a clear picture of what is happening throughout the story. R. L. Perez is a fantastic writer and her stories are always fascinating and stunning. The draw you in and her characters become like family and friends with you. You become invested into their lives and absolutely have to see what happens to them. This one is no different. It drew me in and didn’t let go until I reached the end. Then we have this mind blowing, major cliffhanger. I absolutely cannot wait for the next book to see what happens next.

Another amazing book by R.L. Perez! Thorn & Ash is the second book in the Ivy & Bone series (trilogy I believe). Where book one focused mostly a Prue and Cyrus, book two gives us the story of Mona and Evander.

It's hard to say too much about book two without giving away so much that happened in book one. I loved that we got to see the story from the point of view of so many different characters. The alternating timelines were done so well and it was great to learn what was happening with Mona during the timeline of the first book. I really liked Mona and Evander together because they really helped each other grow and accept themselves for who they are. But I would be lying if I didn't say that I LIVE for Prue and Cyrus. Something about them has a vice grip on my heart. I adored watching them fight for each other and how their relationship grew. The next book in the series cannot get here fast enough!!
Thank you R.L. Perez for the advanced e-book copy. I received an advanced e-book for review purposes, all opinions are my own.

A Lush, Haunting, and Seductively Dark Ride into the Underworld

Thorn & Ash is everything I want in a dark paranormal romance, mythology, magic, emotion, and a romance that refuses to die (literally). R.L. Perez spins a tale that’s equal parts steamy and heart-wrenching, pulling readers deep into a beautifully twisted version of the Underworld.

Mona is such a compelling character, torn between two worlds, haunted by her past (and death), and yet full of this fierce loyalty and vulnerability. And the dark prince? Let’s just say he’s impossible to forget, even when she does.

The emotional tension, the vivid worldbuilding, the high stakes… this book had me hooked from start to finish. If you’re into retellings with bite, morally grey love interests, and a heroine who evolves through pain and power, Thorn & Ash will deliver. It’s perfect for fans of A Touch of Darkness and Kingdom of the Wicked, but with a unique voice all its own.

Highly recommend diving into this series, and keeping a blanket nearby because these chills are the good kind.

The story starts with back and forth of current time in the underworld with Prue and when Mona first appeared in the underworld when she died. I didn’t feel an instant connection with Evander and Mona and I would have liked seeing more of Prue interacting with more demons from the underworld or the other brothers but I’m glad their relationship grew into something and that we do see how it all starts.
I imagine Prue as Margo from the Magicians; strong, powerful woman and we get to see that when she’s talking to the demons as Queen of the Underworld. She’s fierce especially against everything happening in the Underworld, I love that she doesn’t just try to find her own way out and wants to help save it. The twist near the ending was amazing and the cliffhanger has me so excited for the next book. To be honest I’m not that big of a fan of Mona but I do look forward to seeing how she will act in the next book, I’m thinking she’s going to have great character growth.

‘Rest when you’re dead’
Mona’s dead, but she’s a busy gal! Swimming, sacrificing, s---ing… I’m wondering if “no rest for the wicked” is more apropos for the running around all the characters do.

The author incorporated some serious topics in this tale.
Leadership:
Good rulers doesn’t demand obedience from every single subject. They surround themselves with trustworthy advisors and seek information before making decisions.
Integrity:
‘It isn't always the magic that's evil. It depends entirely on the caster.’
Tools are only as evil as the user.

Fave sketch:
Thorned rose

Fave quotes:
‘Be gone, foul magic.’ [If only it were that easy!]
‘A mystery is nothing but unsolved clues.’

Don’t miss out on the Realm of the Underworld map…we’ll need it as the journey continues in ‘Oak & Ember’ (expected Feb 2024).

I swear to God, there better be a third book, because it can't end like that.
I have so many questions. Like who died or did they die? Will Evander survive because of his love for Mona? Is Prue dead after using up all her power to keep Cyrus safe? And what will Pandora do to the Gods? And how is it she doesn't feel remorse for the posibility of killing her sisters?
I need answers!

I loved this book so much more than the first one. And I believe it was because of Evander, and how sweet he was from the beginning towards Mona. He truly cared for the souls and didn't see it as a burden like the others.

I loved how strong willed Mona is, and even though she does believe it, she is really strong and brave when she decided to go back to the Underworld to safe Prue, even though she didn't really need it.

And I really hope Mona and Evander make it because I really like them together.

So I would like to thank the author because I received a copy of this book from her. I really enjoyed this one more than the first book! We finally get to know the story of Mona who is introduced in book one. That’s Prue’s sister, but if you read the first book, you know she was dead. In this book, we do have a continuation of Prue and Cyrus‘s story but you learn about Mona and her story. Before she was resurrected and her story after she’s resurrected. While she was in the underworld she met another prince, Evander, and he was essentially her confidant. This book gives you a better understanding of Mona and her power and then there’s also someone that’s introduced. I don’t want to give too much away but they are going to have a prominent role and book three. I’m hoping they have a redemption arc because I do feel for them, but like I can’t believe what they did.

This book continues the story of two sisters going through hell (literally) and back to fight and save one another's soul. I found the story of Evander and Mona just as enjoyable as the story of Prue and Cyrus. Their meeting in the underworld was perfection. The soul magic that is performed in this book is so heart warming! You can feel the love and passion that comes from both the sisters, and also the relationship between Cyrus and Prue. Love is the greatest magic of all!

The spice in this was low to medium. There are some details, but not too graphic, so I really enjoyed that.

I felt like this book jumped around a lot, and it was hard to keep up with at the beginning, (yes I did read book 1 first) but once I got the flow of the timeline, it was easy to follow and enjoy.

If you don't have these books on your TBR, stop what you're doing and ADD THEM TO IT.

Thorn & Ash was just as good as Ivy & Bone, maybe even a little better. All of the POVs were engaging, and every character was introduced with a purpose. The cast of characters was relatively small, but there weren't any filler characters, which I appreciated so much. The mythological elements also weren't just thrown in there for show; there was intention with every person, place, or object introduced. I loved how fierce Prue was, and how dedicated Mona was. Cyrus was a fighter during his struggle and Evander came into his own. And somehow, all of this happened in one book without feeling like it was overloaded. And of course, the romance was perfect!

I can't wait for book three!

I loved book one so was super excited to read book two and it did not disappoint! We are back in the underworld not just with Prue and Cyrus but we also get Mona and Evander's story this time and boy is it good! Cyrus has been taken control of by a dark enitiy and is draining the underworld which will ultimately destroy it, Prue is trying to figure out what is wrong with Cyrus and save him, Mona is trying to find Prue and Evander is looking for Mona. Each character is bound to another as this journey progresses and it is such an addictive read. Told with multiple POV so you get an understanding from all sides as they all battle to save the underworld from whomever is betraying them. It’s an exciting and thrilling read, with twists and surprises and has you eager to read the next book!

Thorn and Ash is book 2 in the ivy and bone series. It is a hades and persephone retelling with a twist.
The novel follows Mona, who gets returned to the land of the living. She wants to follow the path to the underworld to rescue her twin sister, Prue and to return to her love. But to get there she must sacrifice everything.
I enjoyed this gripping fantasy novel. It's a brilliant page Turner and had me hooked from the start. It had a great cast of characters and a brilliant story. I highly recommend this book and can't wait to read more by the author.

Book two of a Hades and Persephone retelling with a twist.

The twin sister are not only powerful Earth witches they are also the daughters of a Goddess, Gaia.

In this book you will be taken through the dark underbelly of the underworld and the plague that haunts it.

This book has magic. It has angst. It has possession. Gods. Goddess. Greek influence. It has dark magic. Blood magic. This series is well worth the read!

I do not want to spoil too much of it. But I read book two and three back to back in a night. It was that engrossing! (I know my read times are off forgot to mark them done)

How far would you go to save the one you love when obstacles are around every corner? What sacrifices are you willing to make? Held captive in a cursed realm. Clinging to hope. Overcoming dark magic. Picking up where the first book ends, Mona is now headed to the Underworld to save her sister, while Prue is trying to gain her footing as the new Queen and save both Cyrus and the realm from being destroyed by an ancient power/evil.

I felt like I was lost for the first half of the book, although I'm not sure if that was due to the pacing, which seemed to drag for me, or if it was just too long for me between books. Either way, I ended up loving Thorn and Ash and am definitely looking forward to starting the next book.

R.L. Perez is quickly turning into one of my favourite authors! Her writing is so easy to follow, and so much fun.

In Thorn & Ash, we begin where the cliffhanger left off. We are blessed this time with Mona’s POV. It was so fun to get have not only Prue’s perspective, but also her twins as we see learn even more about their bond as they take on the Underworld.

The twists, challenges, tension, and character growth really made this such a fantastic and enjoyable read!!

Thank you to the author for providing a copy in exchange for my honest review.
