Rate this book
He's her best chance of surviving the nightmares that hunt her...if her unpredictable magic doesn't kill him.

Siren Savage doesn't stay in one place for longer than six months. Nightmare creatures stalk her footsteps, and the man who controls them is hellbent on taking her magic for his own. Given the givens, a normal life isn't in the cards. But when she meets Jace Winters, she finds herself wanting everything she knows she can't have.

Old wounds have Jace staying as far away from Aspect-the power that runs in his family's bloodline-as possible. But when he meets Siren, he knows he's the only person alive well-versed enough in Aspect Theory to help her control her strange magic. He's incapable of turning her away, even if it means diving back into the very society he once swore he'd have nothing more to do with.

Neither of them planned on falling in love, but you know what they say about the best laid plans...

Michelle lives in a desolate land with a dark wizard, a unicorn, and a feline overlord. Despite certain stereotypes you may be familiar with, the dark wizard is not holding her captive, nor does the unicorn require virgin riders. The feline overlord, however, may well be evil.

She holds dual BAs in English and Philosophy, which has gotten her about as far as you would expect it to in life. Despite all evidence to the contrary, she’s still desperately holding out hope that in an alternate reality she’s a sword-wielding princess.

It's so exciting to find a new author and series through Goodreads Giveaways! Siren's Song was such an entertaining read. The storyline and romance made it impossible for me to put down.

This is more than a romance story. Yes, there's attraction and it draws the two characters, Siren and Jace, together. But there's more to them than meets the eye, and we quickly find out about it.

Siren has been on the run since she was 16, and as much as she'd like a relationship...any relationship, she knows it's dangerous to have them. And she's seen first hand what could happen. But when she bumped into Jace at the cafe, they really hit it off. And the attraction.

But, what's chasing Siren makes an appearance and we see a hint of what Siren has been through and running from. We also see that Jace is more than a common guy she met at the cafe over coffee. Maybe he can help her, if she lets him and his family and friends do so.

I really loved the urban fantasy in this story. It's different and described well as Siren is learning about her Aspect. The romance is here, but it's not the complete story. We see the characters get to know each other deeper as they bond and Siren learns about a world she didn't know she was part of.

I will say, there's an event in the last 3rd of the book that pulled me from the flow. I didn't quiet understand what happened, maybe it's me as I read at night, but I didn't seem to follow the end of the book as easily as the first 2/3 of the book. It felt to be rushed to keep a limited page count.

That being said, it won't stop me from reading the remaining books in this series. I really love Michelle's writing and the stories she tells.

Action, drama, and love. A great combo!

Power, action, drama, and lust, Sirens Song gives us a female main character that starts off running from fear and ending with her being strong and fierce. This world has a force called aspect that gives a selection of people abilities, Siren was manipulated and her life aspect was contained at birth to be used later by another. She spent most her life running from the bad things, finally she ended up in a place where truth came out. Her life filled with people who were determined to hurt or harm her. She had to learn fast what was hidden for all her years.

Whenever there is a new concept in a book it seems like a lot of time explaining the situation, which needfully so, the aspects and community it hosted took a little while to form. Every character got a little bit of personality and plot, but I didn't get a chance to get emotionally attached to any of them. I think this concept has a sequel potential, a wide franchise could be built around these characters.

I picked this after I finished Guardian of Chaos, the first book in another series by the author. I was interested in reading a single couple romance and this seemed like a good fit. The first half pulled me in and I was fully invested in Siren's journey, but it kind of fizzled for me in the second half. This is a personal issue, but I really don't like it when one character makes decisions for another character "for their own good".

That and some other decisions the MC made kind of pulled me out of the story. I am still interested in reading the other books in this series, but I found this to be less polished than the Nyx Fortuna book I read.

Siren has been running since she was 16 years old. Something is chasing her and she hasn't stayed in one place for more than 6 months until she meets Jace.

Why I started this book: I'm on a kick reading all my popcorn fiction books that I picked up because they looked cool... or because I'd read other books by the author.

Why I finished it: Not as polished as Guardian of Chaos but fascinating world and compelling story so I plowed thru.

Good urban fantasy

Siren was orphaned when she was little and has been running from the grey eyed man since she was 16. He along with the equivalent of a large pack of hell Hounds ripped her boyfriend to shreds. But now her life is about to change. And she just might get the answers she's looking for.

Creative and unique urban fantasy that explores love, belonging and having your own back. Finished in a day and a half.

SYNOPSIS
Siren’s Song follows Siren, a woman who is haunted by her past and has been on the run since she was sixteen. She is stalked by nightmarish creatures. Leaping from town to town is her only means of survival and respite. Siren has always been comfortable leaving places and people behind- until she meets Jace Winters and her whole world is turned on its head.

Siren’s Song is a fresh, new-concept, urban fantasy. The magic system was a welcome change from a lot of the other fantasy books I have been reading lately. It made the book impossible to put down. I would recommend to lovers of new adult/young adult (though, I would mention there are explicit sex scenes so more on the older side of the "young adult" category).

If readers love urban/low fantasy novels such as those by Dima Zales, Laura Thalassa or Jennifer L Armentrout this would be a great read! It is not heavy on the romance but the relationship and the story telling combined with the presence of a strong, female protagonist was fantastic.

I flew through it and the writing made the book very easy to read. It was polished and I wanted to give a special mention to the dialogue- it elevated the book in my opinion. The characters had distinct voices and their traits showed well throughout the book.

The author has crafted a relatable protagonist in Siren- she is anything but helpless and she takes control through the entire book. I loved that I could relate to her decision making and her motivations. I also found the romance scenes were very woman friendly/ feminist and well done.

The last quarter of the book felt a little rushed compared to the rest of the story but it was still engaging and did not lose the plot. Where the book ended has left me excited to read the next instalment of the Aspect Society series!

(I was provided with a copy of this book from Reedsy Discovery in exchange for an honest review.)
