Rejected Mate #1

Banished From the Pack

Rate this book
I wasn't supposed to be found.
After my father's murder, my mother broke with the Jacksonville Pack and became a lone wolf, retreating to the swamp to hide a secret she was determined to keep from the world--me. I grew up there, in the lush but dangerous no man's land populated by ogres, panthers, and bog hags.

I've never spoken to a living soul but my mother when the Alpha of the Jacksonville Pack shows up claiming we share the rarest of bonds, that of True Mates. Apparently, my inexperience and lack of social skills do not make for a good match, and he promptly severs our bond and throws me back to the swamps.

Broken and alone, I've all but given up hope when a strange man drags me from the weeds and brings me home to meet his two rough, biker brothers. Cast from the pack for challenging its Alpha, the triplets are lone wolves like me.

They don't laugh at my lack of manners or knowledge of the world. They care for me. They heal me. And they teach me all I've been missing while hidden away in the swamp. But sinister forces are watching, waiting to stake their claim on my life the way they did my father's. Are these three lone wolves strong enough to save me from the same fate he met?

***Banished from the Pack is book 1 in a trilogy of steamy, near-future paranormal romances with an innocent, sheltered heroine and multiple tough, protective mates who share her love. She does not choose between them. It has steamy scenes intended for audiences over 18 and includes mild kink and age gap. All steamy scenes are consensual.

Ew

When you start your book with a strange sex scene it really sets the tone and the tone was gross. And it never got better. Reading Axel’s scenes made me feel icky but he’s the bad guy, right? Here’s the thing, the other romantic interests made me feel just as skeeved out.

Maybe it was all the talk of the female lead being “jailbait” or all the descriptions of her being a tiny, young thing or maybe it’s the extreme naivety of Luna but they all came off as sexual predators. The author makes sure to say Luna is 18 but the dialogue makes it feel like she’s a minor. Her naivety makes it feel like she is a child. It’s so hard for me to even relax enough to enter the fiction of this book. It feels like a book that was written in the 1970’s by a misogynist.

Layer on top of that the way the sex scenes were written and you’ve got a book that is just stomach turning. There’s a section at the end of book, after Luna has had sex with one of her “heroes”, that highlights it. He is thinking about what just happened and it is very obvious that Luna is just an object for him to get back at Axel. There’s no thought for her or how this changes their relationship, no ideas about the future, just him being glad he c**e in Axel’s mate. And how he “rewarded” her for her submission by “making her c*m”. Ew. Then he kicks her out of bed on a pretense that, in the next scene, turns out to be a non issue.

Luna is an extremely sheltered main character that has no character growth. She is a vapid vessel to be acted upon. Dial up the creep factor by 2, take out the werewolf stuff and this is the terrifying tale of a young GIRL, not legal adult, being preyed upon by men.

Jesus Christ this book was bad.
I regret forcing myself to continue reading this, after around page 170 or so, or when one of the guys shaved her vagina. Yes you heard me. SHAVED HER VAG. AND WORST OF ALL HE LIKED IT, AND SO DID SHE. (but in her behalf, this bitch wouldn’t have a damn clue how to do it anyway)

She barely knows anything, doesn’t know what a toothbrush is, human anatomy, WHAT THE WORD JEALOUS MEANS! She’s been sheltered her whole life I get that but the only person to blame for her not knowing is her mum- bitch tell your child these things tf.

She meets her former mate, axel who is just well.. one step away from being a pedo. He literally says that she looks like a child yet proceeds to want to have sex with her- PARDON?!
Then after they have their 5 seconds of intercourse she runs away and talks to a vampire which is apparently so bad that he severs the mate bond with her and banishes her. (Thank god we don’t have to deal with that man again)

But noooo.. we meet three guys who save her and blah blah blah.. it feels wrong putting this in as a romance book tbh.

One of the guys says something along the lines of “I like your knew hair, it makes you look less like a child” PAUSE, HOLD UP, REWIND.
this man, not even 5 minutes ago was f1ngering her and doing sexual stuff with her when she had purple hair and her natural hair- so what? You wanna do sexual stuff with her when she looks like a CHILD? WHATTT.

This book was just a cesspool of pedophiles and classed as a romance book. Like just because she’s 18 doesn’t mean you can over look consent. The girl barely knew what a toothbrush is let alone knows what sex fully entails!!

I think this is the longest review I’ve ever made on a book but I needed to right down how bad this one was.

Luna (FMC) is completely out of her depth for the majority of this book. Shes genuinely a sweet character but shes naive and socially inept which is mainly because she was brought up in a swamp with just the company of her mother. Axel and Ama were not a favourite of mine in this book. I really wanted to growl at my kindle for the way they treated Luna. Almost like she was clueless and completely dumb which she was not!. Now one the other hand 3 biker triplets - Warrick, Callen and Ethan........they brought on the steam and apart from Warrick they really wanted to help Luna. I cracked up at the checkout part with Warrick and the tampons, lol. A great read but that ending made me want to dropkick my kindle!! I couldnt believe you ended it there. Damn now i have to wait for the next book.........sigh....

I think the author should put triggers in the book: DDLG scenes and age gap. I couldn't get past the age gap to enjoy the book. When the author states that the female lead, Luna, is naive and sheltered she is actually very childlike. Childlike in her physical appearance and mental state. As such the sex scenes become gross --> pedophilia. An example? Axel her true mate thinks she looks like she is 8!!!!! Calls her a child on multiple occasions and even states he wanted a mate and not a child to raise
But he still has sex with her eventhough she has no idea what to do (cringy moments of explanation of body parts and what they do). Luna ends up in immense pain and runs away from Axel. I am still not sure even if this would be dubcon because Luna didn't know what mating is. I was excited to think that there will be at least another strong female Axel's Beta, Ama. However, his Beta wants to be his Luna.....how disappointing.

This review is for the first two and a half books, not just for the first book! It's not the complete series, because I just couldn't bring myself to finish it. Also, it is full of ALL THE SPOILERS! How many spoilers? ALL OF THEM.

You were warned.

Enjoyable

It was an enjoyable read. Was a nice short read.
Luna is the type of character you feel sorry for she knows nothing of their real world, she behaves like a child which in a sense is weird as the guys are in their 30's so for them to have feelings for her is kind of odd.
However it was a good storyline in the sense of rejected mate taken in by other rejects who look after her.

Enjoyed

I really don’t like axel. He doesn’t deserve her. He rushed way to fast then he did that to her? Remorse or not I can’t wait for the second book. I’m hoping her pack gets her back. I need the second book this was a really good one.

Wow this book did not go how I expected. I thought everything was over for Luna when she got banished from her true mate and the Jackson pack. But in all actuality she truly started living when the triplets found her. They taught her how to survive in society. Along the way she started to have feelings for all three of the guys. Just when I thought things were going right for Luna and her guys she gets taken by the vampires during an attack.

I really like all of Alexa's books that I've read but this one just doesn't appeal to me. First there is no type of action or suspense until the very end. So I was bored. Then the mc is feral, childlike, and ignorant to all things and again bam at the very end is adult like and calling a man twice her age daddy. One gross and two both of their personalities changed so quick it just made it unbelievable. Pretty much though it was all unbelievable. I won't be reading the next book.

I'm honestly unsure how to rate this.

On the one hand, the beginning was good...ish. I downloaded a sample and by the time I was on the second chapter I was already downloading the book.

A chapter or so later, I was unsure if I was going to keep reading. But then I convinced myself to just hang in there...

You know how rejected mates books go... it's gonna be a little rough before it gets better.
But Axel was just so...

And don't get me started on his 2nd...

Anyways.
So, the story progresses and I get more and more annoyed by Axel because.. I mean really?
They literally pull this poor girl from the swamp, where she's never interacted w/ anyone other than her mother. Then thrust her into situations that she's clearly not prepared for and then judge her for her inability to interact according to the ways they expect her to.

Then the "mating"

I'm sorry, but I feel like there should have been some kind of warning for this.
She didn't have any idea what was going on. Luna didn't even know what his...appendage was. So, although, technically, she was 18 in the book, she had the maturity level of maybe a 12 year old (and that's being generous).
It was just ALL kinds of wrong.
So, I skipped all of that because Rejected Mates, remember.
I figure, one of them rejects the other and she moves on to something better...

Wrong.

If I'm understanding correctly, the new guys are even older than Axel, her fated mate.
And they are absolutely disgusting. I read the reviews and a few people commented on how they were yummy or whatever....
What planet are you from that you find anything about those men "yummy"?

There is one scene where Luna shares a toothbrush

Sorry... sharing toothbrushes just does something to me..
Anyways. She's sharing a toothbrush w/ Ethan (one of the triplets that "saves" her) and he comments on the fact that she's brushing her teeth with a toothbrush still covered in his own spit

THIS TURNS HIM ON

That's just a little of how gross these brothers are. Sorry, but no.
At this point I'm hoping she runs away from them and finds a new guy or guys... Hell, I'd settle for her running back to Axel and begging him to take her back.

By this point I'm skimming over the majority of the book, just wanting to finish it and see what big thing happens at the end.

Then Luna and Warrick? Merrick? I forgot his name but it's something that ends in 'ick' which is absolutely appropriate.

Because they had me like

after their... encounter.

So, I get to the end and THANK GOODNESS.

I WILL NOT under any circumstances be continuing this series because, I mean really... body funk, sharing toothbrushes, immature heroines participating coitus when they don't fully understand what coitus is, using 'Daddy' during said coitus, and all the ick is just not my cuppa tea.
I just... can't.

Luna's world is turned upside down when she finds her mother severely hurt by a panther, at the same time a woman shows up who demands her to come with her to meet her true mate. Axel, her true mate, is the alpha of his pack and expects the perfect woman to stand by his side. The reality unfortunately does not match the fantasy, resulting in a severed bond followed by even more heartbreak. Luckily she meets three brothers who take her in and accept Luna for who she is.

I read this book in one go, mainly because I love love love LOVE Luna. This girl is absolutely amazing. I think she is one of the purest souls I have read about in a while. Axel is an absolute idiot for not seeing this immediatly. On the other hand it helps that part of the story looks at the connection between the two true mates through the eyes of Axel. I still had an urge to yell at the guy, but I could also understand how hard it probably was to have dreamed about the perfect woman and then having to match that with the reality. But still: he is thirty years old, he should be smarter than this ;-).

Besides Axel there are three triplet outlaw brothers: Callan, Warrick and Ethan. Warrick is the grump, Ethan the ladies-man and Callan the good guy. Their personalities are a bit cliché, but clichés work for a reason and it absolutely works in this book as well. I like the age gap between the guys and Luna and the dynamic between the four of them.

I honestly can't say a bad word about this book; I loved it from the start until the end and I'm allready looking forward tot the next one.

Luna was raised in the bog by her crazy mama, after her daddy was murdered. She doesn't know the ways of the world - at all. Or the way of the wolf. Because her mama said, never to trust the wolves. What happens when Luna's mama is hurt and dying and a mysterious stranger appears offering help? She takes it. Because it's Mama! The stranger Ama, takes her to meet Axel - her True Mate.

Axel is stunned when he meets 18-year-old, wild Luna. Supposedly she is his True Mate and the only way to know is to breed her. As he introduces her to the pack, he realizes just how odd she is. Then when she betrays them all by talking to a vampire, Axel breaks their bond and shuns her from the Pack.

Luckily, a trio of brothers find her and take her in. Letting her find her way with them and welcoming her to their Pack. It's not much, but she's welcome if she chooses to stay. There is a lot of tension between the four of them. Ethan and Callan vie for her attention, while Warrick steers clear of her. They let it up to her, to decide who she wants.

This story ends with a cliffhanger, because book #2. I did grab book #2 because it's free on KU. While I like the story, my hang-up is on her age. I wish she was at least 21. 18 is soooo young. I don't like Axel, Warrick, or Luna. What keeps me reading it? I hope it finally gets better. There is ALOT going on in this story. A LOT!!!!!

Axel is the alpha of the Jacksonville pack. He visits a witch to find out if he has a true mate and she tells him his mate's name and that she is near. He sends his Beta (a female) to find her.

Luna is a wolf shifter has been raised in the swamps of Florida with only her mother for company. One day her mother is attacked and a strange woman offers to take Luna's mother to a healer if Luna will come with her to meet her alpha. The next thing Luna knows she is being told she is Axel's mate and he is sleeping with her to prove it. I won't ruin it by telling you what happens next, but Axel ends up breaking the mate bond and banishing her.

Luna ends up alone and wanting to die in the swamp where she is found by a set of wolf shifter triplets and they take her home with them. They teach her a lot about how to function in the human world and she grows to care for all three. Her only problem is the triplets keep fighting about her, causing her to flee. Unfortunately, her problems with Axel are not over.

I have my suspicions about how Luna's problems began but I will have to wait for the next book to see if I am right...I received a free copy of this book from the author. My review is voluntary

I dnfed 35% in. It's really bad. Luna is completely uneducated and naive, which isn't necessarily a problem, but having this in first person makes it agonizing to read. It's like listening to a small child tell a story.

Then her True Mate is weird. Like they're all full of contradictions. He doesn't like when girls aren't all natural and woodsy but then hates everything she does. I don't really get why he wouldn't be honest with her about mating and everything else seeing how naive she is.

But the thing that icked me out the most was that he wasn't attracted to her because she was too childlike until he saw her naked. That was disgusting. Then after her Mama dies, she's in the Preserve and I assume one of the men that will be in her harem says something to the effect of is she's close enough to legal he'll fuck her.

I already hated this in first person. Which kinda sucks because I feel like this could have been really good in third. And why she is dumped as a True Mate is loose at best. But the infantilizing of Luna and her sexuality gives me the fucking ick.

This is a no for me.

This was an enticing read for me! I really enjoyed the start of this series. This one does end on a bit of a cliffhanger and with a lot of questions so I am very excited about the next book. I can’t wait to see what is coming next. This was very well written. She did a very good job with both Axle and the triplets and makes it a hard choice for the reader to know who Luna should really be with. Axle definitely has some a****** moves that makes you not like him then he does redeem himself a little, at least make you understand a little bit more the choices. I thought that Alexa B. James did a great job with that aspect of this story of the rejected fated mates. That’s what gives Axle something to grasp for me as the reader because he is the true mate but he messed up big time and I did enjoy the triplets and how they interact and build a relationship with Luna. They accept her as she is and help teach her things as they pop up. This story was more slow burn but I am excited to see where things go and how things will turn out with the rest of the series.

Fab story!

Naive wolf shifter Luna has only ever know her mother. An Alpha suddenly wants Luna and says they are True Mates. After mating she becomes scared and runs into a vampire. After drugging her, she gives away the wolves' plot to attack the vampires. She is shunned by her new back and her Alpha mate severs their mate bond using a shaman. During this time, her mother has been trying to heal from a panther attack. Unfortunately Luna gets to her as she draws her final breath. Heart and soul broken she runs to the swaps where she lives and after falling, decides she is better off dead. She is rescued by some exiled wolf shifters who take her in and show her kindness. She begins to have feelings for them all and they all want to be together. Then, her ex-mate turns up begging for forgiveness. What will Luna do and who will she trust? Hot read.

I really enjoyed this book, the characters were engaging and the storyline was really interesting. One issue I had was the way the book finished, iit felt like it was mid storyline, but I liked it so much I was desperately looking for book 2.

Also by the end I was starting to get a little frustrated with the Luna the female lead, I felt she wasn't clear about what or who she wanted, but I still feel I think I know where her heart is....I hope.

I will definitely be giving book 2 a read as other than the massive cliffhanger and a bit of dithering I really enjoyed this book and I want to see how it pans out.

Rejected mate RH

So trigger warning for noncon. This was a crazy ride. In attempting to protect her Luna from the wolves that killed her father, Luna is brought up with very little in education as well as interacting with other people. Axel is a jerk and takes poor Luna after finding out from a Seer that she is his fated mate. He doesn't bother to teach her or acclimate her to the new world she is thrust in. Then he rejects her for being so ignorant of real life. She runs and is close to death when 3 brothers find her. They nurse her back to health and attempt to teach her about life. This is a slow burn RH. The story is engrossing, but does end in one heck of a cliffhanger.

okay, all I have to say is that I hate her true mate. first he's all happy that he found her, then he breaks the bond between them over one small mistake. it's wasn't her fault that she didn't know any of there rules and he didn't even give her time to learn there way of living. he just got rid of her like she was nothing, and then she found 3 men that want her and love her for who she is and want to keep her, but this A hole of a mate don't want to let her be happy. now she gets kidnapped by vampire because of axel. but that damn ending like really you just had to end the book like that. I can't wait till the next book comes out I need to know what happens next. the narrator did an excellent job too.

Banished From the Pack (Rejected Mate #1) was a good read by Alexa B. James, Calinda B. Luna was never supposed to be found. The Alpha of the Jacksonville Pack shows up claiming that they are True Mates. But her inexperience and lack of social skills leads him to sever their bond and throw her back to the swamps. She finds herself broken and alone when a strange man brings her home to meet his two biker brothers. The triplets are also lone wolves. I don't know why I continued to read this. Many times I thought about DNF it. I guess I was bored or something that I did go ahead and finish it. Then there's a cliff hanger ending, that made me curious to see how that's resolved. Ugh! The whole Luna thing, she's so ignorant/naïve about everything in the real world, being raised in the swamps with no contact besides her half crazy mother. She's been malnourished and so is small and gaunt for her age, and so ends up with the emotional & physical aspects of a maybe 14 year old. It just made all the males lusting after her feel a bit skeevy to me. I just really didn't care for the story, but again, I have no real idea why I wasted my time on this...

I really wanted to love this book. I saw a teaser on the clock app and was looking forward to a new read.
Unfortunately I just couldn't get through some of the stilted writing. The conversations between characters, and especially the way male characters spoke to, and their thoughts regarding the fmc and women in general was disgusting. If I didn't know any better I'd say this was written by a male author.
When two authors collaborate you shouldn't be able to tell where one author picks up the story. Unfortunately you can.
On kindle, the last descriptor line reads
'All steamy scenes are consensual' given the fmc and her first sexual experience, I'd say this was debatable.
The plot has promise, but I feel like this needs another few edits and a team of sensitivity readers.

Great story. There’s werewolfs and vampires. Lots of twists and turns. Lunas lived her whole life with her mother in the swamps. She’s never even spoken to a human or another wolf. Her mother has always taught her to be afraid of wolves and never to trust them. She’s so young and innocent. She doesn’t know how to live in civilization. To get help for her mother, she agrees to go meet the alpha of a nearby pack. He claims to be her True Mate. When he thinks she betrayed the pack, he had their bond dissolved. Then he banished her and she was rescued from near death by three wolf brothers, also banished from the pack. Then everything breaks loose. Can’t wait for the next book.

Fun, unique RH

Ok so this book is super unique in that the h isn't just sweet and clueless for no reason, her mother 'Tarzan'd her. She is like a feral kid. The losing of the v card was cringy to me bc I felt like the alpha took total advantage of her lack of worldly knowledge then he unbounded her knowing she didn't understand(idk if he is redeemable at this point). The 3 outlaws are interesting. The man whose is a bit disappointing in he was still getting off with ow, but wanted the h. I have so many questions... who will be in the rh? Who really destroyed her house? Who killed her dad? Is the 2nd in command in cahoots with the vamps? Ahhh! I need the next book asap!

We have an emotional roller coaster. Luna has lived in the swamps her life. Father murdered and mother not really sane. Axel has been the alpha of his pack looking for his true mate. Called, Ethan, and Warrick are triplets that have been banished from the pack. Evan our vampire in the story has his own issues with the pack. Luna finds herself in a triangle mess. Axel is her true mate, but will she ever forgive him? What about the triplets what part will they play and can she trust them? What does Evan want from her?

Banished From The Pack is book one of the Rejected Mate series and at first I had a hard time with the book but the more I read the more I realized how great the writing was. If a story can make me hate a man and shed a tear for a young woman, then I keep reading it. I felt for Luna and how she was raised and then being thrown out into a world she knows nothing about only to get rejected by her mate. This is a heartbreaking story with interesting characters whether I liked them or not and I look forward to reading the next book to see where it takes Luna. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

This is the first book in the Rejected Mate Trilogy, a reverse harem paranormal romance. Wow! I loved it! Luna is such a naive and uncivilized character. Warrick, Callen and Ethan, the three biker triplets are protective, and enigmatic. Axel wasn't my favorite character. I didn't like how he rejected and banished Luna so easily. The storyline is captivating, and intriguing, filled with mystery, secrets, steamy scenes, and twists and turns. The world building is fantastic! I enjoyed it, a lot! And now that ending!! I am looking forward to listening to Shunned by the Pack, the next book in the Trilogy!

This is the first book in a new series by author duo - Alexa B. James and Calinda B. The dual narration is perfectly done. A wonderful, paranormal, shifter romance that is captivating to say the least. Wonderful world and character building. Love the southern from these narrators that really bring to life our characters. Hooked from the very beginning, with twists, turns and of course some steamy chemistry. Characters you love and love to hate. This cliffhanger ending has me dangling for more! Can't wait for more!
