Simon Richard Green is a British science fiction and fantasy-author. He holds a degree in Modern English and American Literature from the University of Leicester. His first publication was in 1979.
His Deathstalker series is partly a parody of the usual space-opera of the 1950s, told with sovereign disregard of the rules of probability, while being at the same time extremely bloodthirsty.
Ah the last of the nightside omnibus's read up (ok I know there is another one but the rest of the series I have as single titles and to be honest I am pleased that I have) the book is rather tricky to read when you have two books in one and the introduction sort of feels irrelevant at the start of the second book since I had only just finished reading the previous book a few pages earlier.
Anyway I do love the reference to not only a twisted version of our own reality but also the references to London itself - ok some of them do come think and fast, so much so that it feels like Mr Green is simply throwing them because he had such a great idea and was determined to use them come hell or high water. And for that I think it lost a star - however there is a truly fascinating set of character, almost a parade of the bizarre and the grotesque however all of them are fascinating and appealing in their own way -if Nightside is their home then then ARE the nightside - and in this volume you find out that is closer to the truth than you realise.
The whole concept is a great Idea and I like that even though there are truly catastrophic events approaching the series goes on - it does make you ask the question, if they got through that what else can they have thrown at them. Well I guess I will be finding out shortly.
