He killed my husband. Now I’ve promised to be his wife. After my first husband died, I thought my heart was completely broken, and that I’d never feel happy again.
Until I met Theo. He’s a doctor. A man who seems good and caring and kind. Soon after we start dating, he says he wants to marry me. And even though his grown-up children are less sure about me, to everyone else it’s the second chance for love and happiness I deserve.
But the truth is maybe his children are right to be suspicious. Because I know something about Theo. That he was there in the operating theatre the day my first husband died. And I think it was his fault.
Am I in exactly the right place for revenge? Or am I living with a killer?

This was such a wonderful psychological thriller that every time I assumed I knew where it was leading, there was another twist and I ended up wrong. Very enjoyable, keeps you guessing. Highly recommend.
If the love of your life was killed unnecessary and noone woukd accept responsibility and you r told to move on what would you do?. This action packed thriller told pov style had me hooked from page 1. The thought process of the plan and the reality waa gripping and felt real. I loved the way rhe characters evolved alongside the plan. Full of twists and turns this had me guessing to the end. At times the situation felt too ott and in other too tame but it was this that kept me reading. Thank you netgallery and publisher and author fir this highly recommended 5 star read
There were parts of this book that I really enjoyed and I thought it would be a higher rating but the overall read and the ending just didn’t sit well with me
The Fiancé by Rona Halsall was an enticing and suspenseful read! This is the second book I’ve read by her, and I’m already looking forward to diving into more of her work.
The story follows a woman whose husband unexpectedly dies during surgery—something that was never supposed to happen. Grieving and angry, she sets a chilling plan into motion: she seeks revenge by marrying the very doctor she believes is responsible for his death.
Anna is still reeling from the death of her husband, Ollie, after a horrific hospital blunder when she concocts a plan to wreak revenge on the man who made her a widow. Determined to destroy Ollie’s surgeon, Theo, she sets out to win his affections, believing that getting close to him is the key to his downfall. But Anna gets more than she bargained for when she meets Theo’s grown-up children, Luna and Gino, who will do anything to stop her from stepping into their late mother’s shoes. What happens next makes Anna question why she ever thought revenge was a dish best served cold. The Fiance is a gripping, fast-paced thriller that ramps up the tension with every chapter. Halsall’s portrayal of a grieving widow is so flawless you can’t help but root for Anna, even if her intentions are morally questionable. The result is a twisted game of cat and mouse in which everyone has something to hide. Shut your door and turn off your phone – you won’t want to put this book down until you’ve reached the end!
Thank you @rararesources and @RonaHalsallAuth for letting me be part of this tour and reviewing this book. The Fiancé is psychological thriller genre which is my favourite genre and this book did not let me down. It was gripping from start to finish, and I had idea what was going to happen but was wrong each time. Love it when that happens. The story is about Anna who is a grieving widow who blames the surgeon (Theo) for the death of her husband (Ollie) and Anna wants Theo to pay for what he has done to her, but it is not that simple. I felt like I was on a rollercoaster reading The fiancé and there are some great twists and turns through the book. I liked Anna a lot and felt connected to her and felt sorry for her due to her being lost in her grief and wanted a vengeance, but there were times I didn't know which other characters to trust like her friend from the gym she seemed ok, but I was never sure and was questioning her motives, and I was unsure of Theo at times to. The Fiancé is a fast pace and a very addictive read and when you finish you will go wow what ending. 5 stars. Brilliant
For the past two years, Anna's followed him on social media. Theo Heaton, the surgeon who'd been holding the scalpel when her husband Ollie died on the operating table. Even though the inquiry said it wasn't Theo's fault, she blamed him. It was his careless mistake that killed Ollie. If nobody else was going to hold him responsible and see that he was punished, she would. She would ruin him one way or another. Unable to find the slightest blight on his career, she moves onto his personal life, determined to make something horrible happen to him as a way to get her revenge. When his relationship status online changes to single, she sees her chance. She'll put herself in his path, charm him into dating her, then make him feel every bit of the pain he caused her.
However, the man Anna meets isn't nearly the monster she believed him to be. Theo is attentive, sweet, and caring. He bestows on her the romance and affection she's missed since Ollie's death. But as the sparks ignite between them, Anna continues to plot her revenge by shattering his heart when the time is right. There's only one problem. When she actually falls for him and agrees to marry him, it's her world, not his, that is shattered.
His grown kids adamantly and violently object to her. Her apartment is ransacked. She's beaten. A doctored X-rated video of her is put online. Her business is ruined. So is her car. Theo swears his kids wouldn't do those things. Yet, her best friend Tanya knows Theo and his family well. She warns her of the danger. When Theo abruptly ends their relationship, Anna hopes the attacks on her will stop. Instead, they get more deadly. Anna was so busy plotting her revenge that she never considered someone out there wanted to get revenge on her. But who? And why? Will she figure it out before it's too late?
Insanely gripping and bursting at the seams with intense tension and suspense, "The Fiancé" is the latest pulse-pounding, unputdownable thriller by an author who seems to hit the proverbial nail on the head with every book she writes. Author Rona Halsall is a master at crafting plots and characters that grab you by your attention span as soon as you start reading, then keep you slack-jawed and guessing the rest of the way. "The Fiancé" is no exception. It's an addictive, engrossing tale that you'll easily be able to read in one sitting -- if your time permits. It'll be all that's on your mind if you can't.
A heart-racing adrenaline rush, "The Fiancé" is as twisty and turn-y as a thriller can get. In fact, the twists and turns don't stop. Reading this book is such a rush, you'll love every second. The characters are well fleshed out and feel real. The emotions, the creepiness, and the suspicious behavior jump off the pages. The tension and anxiety spread from the book to the reader, creating a knuckle-biting, fast paced thrill ride that's OMG fantastic.
"The Fiancé" is the perfect example of why Rona Halsall is one of my favorite psychological thriller authors. I didn't know who to trust or who to fear most of the way through the book. I liked Anna. I trusted Theo. I thought his daughter might be misunderstood. By the time I figured out who the bad guys were, I was coming up on the ending -- and even more twists. I wish I could read it for the first time again. It's a twisty, breath-caught-in-your-throat roller coaster ride that you'll be glad you read.
Thank you to Boldwood Books, Rachel's Random Resources, and author Rona Halsall for the complimentary eARC in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.
Although I have a couple of this authors books in my TBR pile, this is the first book I have read of Rona’s. It definitely will not be the last. Fast paced and addictive, this is a great psychological thriller!!
Anna’s husband dies during a routine operation and she believes the surgeon, Theo, is to blame. Anna comes up with a plan for revenge but will her plan succeed?
This totally had be hooked from the very start. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing about what will happen next. It’s fast paced and a cracking read. Now I need to find those other Rona Hansall books in my tbr pile and put them right to the top!!
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for a digital copy of this book.
Wow! This book had everything. Romance, Intrigue, Suspense and lots of twists and turns. The ending was shocking and completely took me by surprise. If you are a fan of psychological suspense then this Author is definitely for you.
They say revenge is a dish best served cold but in the end, as it turns out, revenge is a dish that shouldn't be served at all...
I tried reading this book six months ago but I had so much going in my RL that I struggled to get into it and found myself completely exasperated with Anna's way of thinking. So I shelved it. And it sat there, accusingly, for six months until last night I decided to give it another go. And I flew through it until it's final pages.
Anna is devastated when her husband Ollie goes in for surgery only for complications to arise and she to be left a widow. She is certain that someone is to blame. And who best to aim her accusations against than the surgeon responsible for the operation. But no matter what avenue Anna took, no matter who she complained to, no matter how far she took her allegations - the surgeon was clear of any malpractice and Ollie's death was deemed an accident.
But Anna wasn't going to let it go. Instead she found out everything she could about the surgeon, Theo Heaton. She stalked him and garnered as much information as she could until all her plans were in place. And then she engineers a meet with him. Project Theo. She was going to make him pay.
But then things go awry. Anna never planned on actually liking the man, of falling in love with him. And she enjoyed every moment in his company and found she loved being there. He whisked her away to Paris for her birthday and upon return, he proposed. Anna was speechless. This was what she was leading up to, wasn't it? Everything she had done, all she had planned, it all lead up to this. So why was she hesitating? Could it be she actually was in love with him?
However, like any relationship, there is always another person involved. In this case, Theo's children. Specifically his daughter. Neither of them had warmed to Anna from the moment they met her and now a campaign of hate has been launched against her. Why? To drive a wedge between the happy couple? To break them up? But no matter what hate-fuelled attack was launched at Anna, Luna and Gino (Theo's children) always had an alibi. So it couldn't have been them, could it? Anna is certain they are behind it because no one hates her as much as they appear to.
But then she has another problem. Theo doesn't believe it's his children either. Neither to do the police, no matter how often they are questioned. Anna is left scared and alone, unsure of what is coming next.
This was certainly different from what I expected. Maybe a little OTT but then what thriller isn't? I still enjoyed it despite wanting to scratch Luna's eyes out and give Anna a slap for making some stupid decisions. But the one person I couldn't get a proper read on was her friend Tanya. This is a tale with so many twists you won't know who to trust. I certainly didn't. And I felt as isolated as Anna did as I turned the pages until the end. I wasn't surprised by the who even if others are.
An entertaining read.
I would like to thank #RonaHalsall, #Netgalley and #BoldwoodBooks for an ARC of #TheFiance in exchange for an honest review.
The Fiancé by Rona Halsall is a suspenseful tale where revenge takes center stage. The story's premise is initially intriguing, drawing readers in with a promise of dark secrets and twisted motives. However, as the plot unfolds, it starts to feel somewhat over the top and veers into the realm of the unrealistic. The metaphor "if you dig a pit for someone else, you'll fall into it yourself" perfectly captures the essence of the plot’s twists. Despite the strong start, many of the developments were predictable, with little surprise in the outcomes. The pacing of the book is solid, maintaining a steady momentum throughout. Yet, the lack of genuine unpredictability lessens the impact of what could have been a gripping thriller. While the book delivers on drama, it could have benefited from a bit more subtlety. Overall, it's an entertaining read but lacks the depth to leave a lasting impression.
This author's books are always incredible thrilling reads and I sometimes wonder how it'ss possible to keep writing such gems. It's no doubt a gift because I really could not pull this off even if I tried a million times.
And yes, she delivers again. She treats her readers to another enthralling story.
I felt for Anna and I totally understood how she felt. The frustration, the helplessness, the feeling like you are fighting against a giant and you can never win, because they close ranks and you are left in the cold.
She started with a plan, but will she achieve the result she set out for?
A very enjoyable read I could not put down before I had read the last word with a leading lady who fights, literally and figuratively, with everything she has in her and for what she believes in. 5 stars
I have become a fast fan of Halsall's writing, and this book was no different. Anna's husband, Ollie, passes away during surgery, and Anna is convinced that his doctor is to blame. Anna devises a plan to get back at the doctor who goes unpunished after being investigated and found of no wrongdoing. When Anna "meets" him as part of her plan, they quickly fall for each other and soon end up engaged. Things take a different turn than what I was expecting There were twists and turns galore in this fas paced thriller. This book was unputdownable for me, as I had to know what was going to happen. It reeled me in from the beginning and kept me gripped until the very end.
Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Okay, so if I liked this book, why not give it at least four stars? Well, that is simple: this had the potential to be more dramatic.
I don’t know if this is a spoiler, but still, I’m going to put this on overline (I thought there was going to be a secretive motive behind Ollie’s death of some kind; I don’t know?, but I feel like it was a bit of a missed opportunity there).
Started off strong. We first meet Anna fresh from getting the awful news that her husband died after some completely preventable incidents that happened during surgery. I totally sided with Anna; if my husband died because a distracted surgeon left some medical instruments inside his body when he performed surgery AND THEN got another surgery without me being notified about it, I would be OUTRAGED. I loved the parts where Anna kicks off Project Theo and starts to better herself up and transform into a (literal) man killer.
I may be getting too spoiled or just getting more used to “going off the rails” story lines, but there was something missing in this book. It’s not a bad book; it’s not boring by any means, but there was just a little flare missing.
All in all, I honestly think that I’m going to be upping my rating on some platforms because I like Halsall as an author. I like her writing, and I like her ideas. This is only my second book, but hello?? I don’t like saying that I have autobuys or autoreads for certain authors, but you know... Honestly, yes, I’ve become what I’ve criticised in the past. If Rona Halsall is coming out with a new book, I am reading it, like, I don’t care, man.
The only thing left to say is that I need to up my game on her books and fill my library with her past works.
Rona NEVER disappoints me! This book, I think, has made my head spin more times than Regan in The Exorcist!! The twists and twists and twists - just epic! That final sting in the epilogue got me and I did wonder if we would ever get a resolution on one of the storylines, and it wasn't one I was expecting! I had pegged someone else!
The narrator, Stephanie Beattie, was perfect for this book and I don't think I have listened to anything by her - but I will definitely again.
Anna is broken, and out for revenge but the journey ahead of her is not what she planned, someone else has other ideas! The sad story of her husband, Ollie, gosh it is the thing of nightmares that happened to him. I definitely did not trust anyone - and that's how Rona likes it. Everyone has a role to play, however small. The different things that kept happening to Anna, I could just tell there was a bigger story to it, I was driving myself crazy trying to work it all out. But it was a butterfly effect here, everything was linked just not always how you think it might be!
Another winner in my eyes. I can't wait for the next book by Rona. Just not sure how she can top this!!!
The Fiancé by Rona Halsall is a thriller jam-packed with suspense, tension and delectable revenge. The quick pace and twists practically had me gnawing my tongue to reach the end.
Anna and Ollie had a great marriage. But that ended when Ollie unexpectedly died as a result of surgical negligence. The hospital staff and police were uninterested so Anna began to plot revenge. She learned everything she could about the surgeon to carry out her plan, even changing herself in the process. But she fell for him. She didn't bargain on his conniving family. Soon things spiraled out of control, suspicions flew and distrust grew. Who was the real avenger?
Though I pinned the culprit, how the loose ends tied up was breathtaking. The plot made me feel uneasy and jumpy in the best way and the writing yanked me in by the neck and threw me into the deep end. Ahhh...revenge.
My sincere thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for providing me with an early digital copy of this engrossing novel.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Fiance by Rona Halsall is a thrillingly, gripping and heart-pounding psychological thriller that will leave you gasping for air when twists will come along! Grief, hate, revenge and a lot of lies... Everyone is lying, everyone is hiding something, and everyone will go the extra mile to hide the truth!
Anna lost her husband Ollie way too early and she believes that the surgeon Theo is to blame. Anna is trying to get justice but unfortunately, she is no one against the hospital where everyone will cover everyone's backs. So Anna comes up with a different plan, the revenge plan she can deliver without anyone's help!
As always Rona is on the top of her game! So far I have never been disappointed by her books! I love her writing style as you are huked from the first chapters! I love how suspense is kept all the way through! As always twists come in as a surprise and the ending... oh well, the ending... I would not guess in a million years!
Thank you, NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this copy!
My Review: WOW!!!!! Now I know what all the hype with the book was about. I loved this one and was hooked from the very first page. What wasn’t there to love was the real question. There were so many twists and turns that made this book wonderful. I was not expecting any of it. Don’t even get me started on the characters, story line and that speechless ending. The characters were all perfectly written and shady as heck. The plot was intriguing and kept me very interested. The ending was jaw dropping and left me wanting more. Im really sad for this one to end. I can’t wait to read another book by this author. She’s fantastic.
In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Rona Halsall is well known for her fast paced thrillers, this novel is no different although more of a family drama. Anna's husband dies on the operating table and despite an inquest and an inquiry the surgeon responsible escapes punishment. Keeping track on Theos life, Anna discovers he is single and sets out to seduce him in order to take her revenge. What she doesn't expect is to fall in love with him. But then she meets the kids from hell and all her intentions go by the wayside. Despite being the author of many books, this feels just as fresh as her first. Creative storyline and a brilliant read.
Anna meets Theo and soon gets engaged even though his grown children are unsure about her. She knows something about Theo, though. Is he kind and gentle or a killer? Anna will find out! This book was full of mystery, twists, and turns – I read it in one day! Just when you think you know what’s coming, something happens, then something else - well, you get the picture. I have previously read two of Rona Hansall’s books so I figured this one would be good and it did not disappoint – probably the best of the three!
Having not read one of Rona's books in a good while, I was delighted to receive an ARC of this one. There is just something about the way she writes, her books always draw me in and I get quickly absorbed in them. I felt sorry for Anna right from the start and couldn't wait to see how this one would play out! I really like revenge thrillers and this had revenge and a whole lot more! A full 5 stars from me. Now to go and catch up on a few more of hers as I enjoyed this one so much! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is a very good psychological thriller. When Anna’s husband Oliver dies during a routine operation, she suspects negligence by the surgeon who performed the operation. She plans revenge on him and hatches a plan to date him to get near to him. Her actions get out of control and her life and liberty are put in danger. This book has a great unexpected ending and is worth a read. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Wow wow what a book . This is the first book I have read by Rona and boy it won’t be the last. Great thriller with plenty of twists and suspense. Great story and great characters. The fast pace of the book keeps you wanting to find out more. Thank you to @theboldbookclub for letting me have a chance to read this ,I’ve now found a new author.
New publishers but still an amazing Rona who never disappoints. This book starts off as a book of revenge following the death of her fiancé at the hands of a negligent surgeon. When Anna reinvents herself to attract Theo she sets out to destroy her life but as she starts having strange things happen to her she starts to fear she may be in too deep and can’t trust anyone. Is revenge a dish best served cold!
