From USA Today Bestselling Author, P.D. Workman! Something just doesn’t add up. Assistant Medical Examiner Kenzie Kirsch thinks that the deaths from Champlain House are linked by more than place. If she is right in her theory, the nursing homes, emergency rooms and the morgue are all going to be overwhelmed. Only she can’t get anyone to listen to her. The suggestion of a public health hazard may cause widespread panic, and it is a really bad time politically to be spreading gossip about an unknown contagion. The CDC needs proof. And Kenzie Kirsch needs to be silenced. One way or another. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Every book by PD Workman that I’ve read has been a gripping one, however different the genres are, going from lighter mysteries to really dark ones… this is one of my favourite, most dependable authors. Kenzie has her work cut out for her. People are dying, but is the same connection everywhere? Perhaps a virus, what could it possibly be. It’s a don’t put down type of book.
I received a review copy from the author at my request and this is my honest opinion. Having read all of the Zachary Goldman stories I was very familiar with Kenzie so I was looking forward to reading this book. It was very enjoyable to see her relationship with Zachary from her point of view after previously seeing it from his. I enjoyed getting a better feel for Kenzie's work in the ME's office, too. In the Goldman mysteries her job comes across as simply a resource for Zachary, so learning about how much she actually does was interesting. There were the same realistic characters I've come to expect from Ms. Workman, natural-sounding dialogue, plenty of action, and a few unexpected developments. The only criticism I might have is that the premise was a little far-fetched and I had to take it with a grain of salt, but not enough to deter from my enjoyment of the story. I'm looking forward to the next in the series.
Doctored Death (A Kenzie Kirsch Medical Thriller #2), my thirty-first read from author P.D. Workman. Although not as good as the first book in the series none-the-less extremely well written, the characters well-developed. More medical mystery/suspense than anything I've read of her other works. Maybe why that's why I like it so much since I love a good mystery. “I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it.(RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Brilliant storyline. Menzies believes there is a coverup on deaths in a nursing home , and when two ‘John does’ become a part of the puzzle , things take a turn for the worse. However she never expected the outcome of her trying to find answers to be a risk to her and her partners lives.
No spoilers. This was a page turner! I couldn’t wait to find out how, who and why. Characters are very real and you can’t help but like them. Well written and entertaining.
DOCTORED DEATH is the second book in the A KENZIE KIRSCH MEDICAL THRILLER series and I look forward to reading more. It's a nice continuation of the first book, UNLAWFUL HARVEST, and has Kenzie and Zach at its core. The series is also connected to the ZACHARY GOLDMAN MYSTERIES series. Kenzie is a doctor who works in the medical examiner's office and he's a private investigator with some mental health issues. Their relationship isn't always easy but they are good together, and often balance each other out, even if she seems to have to sometimes make sacrifices to keep him on an even keel.
Kenzie is once again playing detective when there's a series of deaths at the independent living side of a senior living complex. There are also a few John Doe's whose identities they are trying to uncover. When things go from bad to worse and there seems to be a deadly virus on the loose will Kenzie and those she works with be able to pinpoint its origin? And why are do so many other deaths seems to be connected to the outbreak?
There are twists and turns to the story along with a lot of medical jargon. Kenzie's dad, a lobbyist, seems to always get in her business and tries to make her see things differently due to his politics. He doesn't make her life easy and there always seem to be bad things happening to her as a result. There are races against the clock, lots of interviews to piece together where the virus has originated, family moments, deaths, injuries, anger, fear, thefts, a dog who seems to sense when those at the home are dying along with everyday activities. There is closure but the book ended too abruptly for me. I do look forward to reading more in this series.
Ms. Workman is an author who writes several different mystery and medical series. I've read a few of them but have many more on my TBR pile that I look forward to reading.
Kenzie Kirsch works at the Medical Examiner’s office. Not the most glorious job, but it’s the one she chose and she loves it. She hopes to be able to become a Medical Examiner someday but for now, she’s content to sit at her desk typing reports and making sure her boss has everything he needs to do the job he needs to do, that is- take care of those who have taken their last breath and make sure their families know why they died. Willis Cartwright lived at Champlain House until late one night, when He passed away with no warning. When Kenzie and her team were called in, everything pointed to natural causes. Everything, that is, except that he was in the ambulatory unit and relatively healthy up until a week before his death. But his brain showed otherwise. What on earth could cause a healthy man to deteriorate within a week and then suddenly collapse? Before they had answers, another elder had fallen and another case was waiting to be solved. Soon, Kenzie was feeling the heat from all sides, even her parents, as she worked hard to discover what might have happened to the patients at Champlain House. Could she find out fast enough to stop another death from happening? This book combines great technical medical details with detailed descriptions of the workings inside the relationship of a person with ADHD and his partner that struggles to understand and live with his disability. Throw in a medical mystery and you have all the makings of an edge of your seat thriller that will keep you up well past bedtime turning page after page.
P. D. Workman is one of my very favorite authors and never fails to provide compelling stories about interesting characters. In Doctored Death we follow Kenzie Kirsch, an assistant Medical Examiner, as she and her boyfriend, Zachary Goldman, a traumatized yet highly effective Private Investigator, follow the clues to unravel the mystery of how relatively healthy residents of an assisted care facility are showing signs of rapid-onset dementia only days before dying. Their investigation proves to be a bit tricky and, at times, dangerous. I enjoyed the medical mystery aspect of the story and, having long been a fan of the Zachary Goldman series, was delighted with the “crossover” between two of my favorite series. I can’t help but wonder where the author will take our intrepid investigators next.
I was provided with an advance copy of this book for which I thank the author. My review, however, is voluntary, and reflects my honest and unbiased opinion.
Doctored Death is book #2 in the Kenzie Kirsch Medical Thriller series by P.D. Workman.
Kenzie Kirsch works at the Medical Examiner’s office. They find some anomalies when examine a patient from a nursing home. She starts asking questions that could put her in danger.
The pace was slow to start with. It seemed like a lot of Kenzie asking her boyfriend,Zachary, if he had eaten, asking if he’d slept, asking how he was feeling. As things were explained as the book progressed, it made sense. I haven’t read the first book in the series or the Zachary Goldman Mysteries series so those might have helped. Once the investigation started, the pace really picked up and I couldn’t put it down. It’s kind of scary because it’s not hard to believe what happened in the book, could happen in the real world.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Trainee ME Dr Kenzie Kirsch, has a quandary at work while working alongside her mentor and boss, Dr Wiltshire, on two separate cases. One is the unexpected death of a resident at an assisted living facility, the other a homeless John Doe...are the two cases related somehow? Another resident dies unexpectedly and Kenzie's on the case with Dr Wiltshire. Who's Lola? What's going on at Champlain House? Who's the source of the deadly virus? What happens at the Masked Charity Ball?

I must admit, I like almost everything P.D. Workman writes! But this book deserves a big WOW! Dr. Kenzie Kirsch works as assistant to the Medical Examiner in the morgue. An unexpected death in the nursing Jones’s Independent Cate Unit, which initially looks like a natural death, turns out to have some anomalies. When a second patient from the same unit dies with similar symptoms and anomalies, the Medical Examiner’s office realizes that something is going on and sends tissue samples off to a lab for special tests. Kenzie talks to staff and patients on the unit to try and figure it out. The story then starts moving really fast! It was interesting to get to know Kenzie and Zachary and the dynamics of their relationship. This book will keep you up late reading, I know it did me!
I received an advance copy from the author and write this review voluntarily.
Kenzie a doctor in the medical examiner officer quips “I don’t think there’s any need to worry about me getting bored. People aren’t going to stop dying.” Kenzie and her boyfriend Zach struggle to cope with his mental issues. I appreciate that the author brings to light mental health issues and how everyone around Zach and including Zach learns from each other in dealing with the issue. I also appreciate that Zach is a functioning member of society with a job and a girlfriend, not just a wacko-mentally ill character.
Absolutely fabulous! Kenzie and Zachary search to find the origin of a new virus before it can kill others. Expertly crafted with well-drawn characters, non-stop action and unbeatable storytelling. I couldn’t put down this riveting book. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the more from these characters. I received a complimentary copy of this book and chose to write a voluntary, unbiased review.
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Very interesting plot, especially in these days when people have been concerned with a virus every day. The characters are the same, and still very interesting, but the story is a little too slow for my patience.
