In this second edition of CBT Made Simple , two renowned psychologists and experts in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) offer the most comprehensive manual available to help professionals learn CBT and deliver it to clients for better treatment outcomes. CBT is an evidence-based treatment for several mental health disorders, including anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and anger problems. This simple, pragmatic guide offers everything you need to know about what it is, how it works, and how to implement it in session. This fully revised and updated second edition of CBT Made Simple provides a user-friendly, practical approach to learning CBT using up-to-the-minute teaching methods and learning tools—in particular, the “effective adult learning model,” which promotes interactive learning, experiential learning, and self-reflection. Each chapter presents key elements of CBT in clear, accessible language, and includes client dialogues and clinical examples. Practical exercises are incorporated throughout, enabling you to practice and consolidate your learning. In addition, each chapter mimics the structure of an actual CBT session. This new edition also includes the core components of CBT—core beliefs, intermediate beliefs, and behavioral experiments—to make this the most comprehensive CBT manual you’ll find anywhere. If you are a clinician or student interested in learning more about CBT, this book—part of the New Harbinger Made Simple series that includes ACT Made Simple and DBT Made Simple —has everything you need to hit the ground running. Why not make it a part of your professional library?
CBT Made Simple is simply the best resource for new and seasoned clinicians alike who want to understand the foundations of CBT, hone their CBT skills, and gain confidence in applying CBT to myriad client presentations. Josefowitz and Myran expertly weave together CBT theory, instruction, practice and clinical vignettes in ways that encourage active engagement and self-reflection. The frequently found “Your Turn!” sections consistently push readers to get out of their heads and into the therapy room. CBT Made Simple shows the richness and depth that the CBT approach brings while still remaining accessible and practical. Ultimately, this demystifies the approach and demonstrates that, with some effort and practice, anyone can learn to use CBT as an effective driver of positive change. CBT Made Simple has earned a space on my shelf, where I’m certain it will sit well-loved and dog-eared for years to come.
A great into to CBT, I really loved how interactive it felt with the exercises and videos throughout. I helped keep me focused and really helped me know how to apply it
Great beginners guide for therapists looking to use CBT interventions. The best part of this book is by far the abundance of worksheets and resources included!
Read most of the chapters of this and found it really helpful thinking clinically and putting psychological therapeutic approaches into action. A good workbook to use and dip in and out of.
CBT Made Simple as its title suggests, is a simple and elementary book. I found that it severely lacked depth, and its contents were not particularly insightful.
I had already written review but was asked by Goodreads to write again. CBT is a great way to explore how your thought and feelings affect you behaviors. It allows the person using it to explore thinking errors and misconceptions that cause problematic issues in their lives, and thus find more positive options. Love this book, it is well organized and having used CBT in therapy settings.
