Peter and the Starcatchers Set

Rate this book
The first three books in the Peter and the Starcatchers series tell the story of a young orphan named Peter and how he became the forever-young boy from J. M. Barrie's classic novel. Pirates, sea battles, starstuff, flying camels, treacherous villains, and intrepid heroes make for an incredible adventure that is impossible to put down. Readers will be rooted to their chairs from the first page of Peter and the Starcatchers to the last page of Peter and the Secret of Rundoon . And once they finish, fans will be chomping at the bit for the fourth novel, Peter and the Sword of Mercy , which hits shelves just a month later.

Dave Barry is a humor writer. For 25 years he was a syndicated columnist whose work appeared in more than 500 newspapers in the United States and abroad. In 1988 he won the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary. Many people are still trying to figure out how this happened.
Dave has also written many books, virtually none of which contain useful information. Two of his books were used as the basis for the CBS TV sitcom "Dave's World," in which Harry Anderson played a much taller version of Dave.
Dave plays lead guitar in a literary rock band called the Rock Bottom Remainders, whose other members include Stephen King, Amy Tan, Ridley Pearson and Mitch Albom. They are not musically skilled, but they are extremely loud. Dave has also made many TV appearances, including one on the David Letterman show where he proved that it is possible to set fire to a pair of men's underpants with a Barbie doll.
In his spare time, Dave is a candidate for president of the United States. If elected, his highest priority will be to seek the death penalty for whoever is responsible for making Americans install low-flow toilets.
Dave lives in Miami, Florida, with his wife, Michelle, a sportswriter. He has a son, Rob, and a daughter, Sophie, neither of whom thinks he's funny.

A lovely story about Peter Pan and the lost boys, but with a magical twist which was different from the usual fairy tale we are used too. I think the authors retelling of this story was such a clever one, writing about Wendy and Jane and adding a modern retelling as well! Wonderful story for my childhood.

I read all three of these as a tween/teenager and very much loved the fantasy adventure thrillers that they are. I have not read them again as an adult to say if I would enjoy them just as much now.

This is by far one of my all time favorite adventure book series! I have read it multiple times, and it never gets boring. It is the perfect book series to pass the rainy days, or to escape reality. And it has been a while since I've dived into these pages, so I think it's that time again.

I found these books on cd through the library systems in my area. I listened to them with my boys. We loved them. Jim Dale does a fantastic job with all those unique voices. The stories are so creative. I always like to have more information about characters I am interested in. I thought the unfolding of details to tell the reader how Peter Pan and Tink came to be were very clever. If you were charmed by the original tale you will probably enjoy these very involved plots. (there are four books in this series) I personally found the Peter of the first three books by Barry to be more endearing than the self centered Pan of the original Barrie. Peter was a brave and unselfish boy when his first teeth were still new.

I’ve been out of reviewing for a while, so I will be doing a short one.

Peter and The Starcatchers Set by Barry and Pearson is actually good. I enjoyed this book series immensely. The background and character development was perfect. Good villains. I highly recommended for all those interested in Pan or stories not ruined by an “interpretation” of a gimmick hack calling himself a writer. This story is written for those who always wanted more and not for those who love story ruining with pop psychology and bullshit and wish for more baby seal clubbing.

I loved this series so much! I am a huge fan of Peter Pan, and the awesome story of his background left me breathless. The ending was touching and it lead right into the story of Peter Pan that we are all familiar with. Our questions like "What was Captain Hook's name before he had a hook?" or "Where did the Lost Boys come from?" or the most important of all "Why is Peter able to fly?" are all answered in this captivating series.

I read these books a year or two ago. They are definitely children/young adolescent type books. Good imagination in tying the Peter Pan story into a history of how the whole traditional story came about. I guess I'm giving it a 3 because I wasn't all that captivated by the books. I think that book number 3 was my favorite.

Read this book series with my 3rd grade daughter and we both loved it. It is a wonderful adventure story that gives a background to the characters in Peter Pan. I loved that it answers questions such as how can Peter Pan fly, why does he have the fairy Tinker Bell with him all the time, and how did he and the lost boys end up on an island in the middle of nowhere?

Fantastic! I recommend "Peter and the Starcatchers" to everyone I know. Peter is a scoundrel, Tink is hilarious, and Hook/Black Stash is deliciously foul! My family has found more enjoyment from this series then any other book.

**Jim Dale is the narrator for the audio book and is fantastic! If you are planning a road trip with the kids this book is a must :)

I absolutely adore this trilogy set. While I have not read the next two in this series, I fondly remember just how much I loved this trilogy. I would rent them from the library week after week, and I will never forget how adventurous they made me feel. So well written and so thought-out. Very nostalgic and enjoyable, comforting to even my adult self.

I have read all of these books and have enjoyed them a lot. It is pretty much another story of Peter Pan, but I think it is better.

The kids and I listened to this series over the past year and a half in the car. The story is exciting and keeps us all interested, and the narrator, Jim Dahl, is fabulous.
