Pampered but now destitute, Komomo finds true friendship and love while working in a pastry shop.
As a little girl, Komomo Ninomiya delighted in picking on Natsu Azumi, the son of her family’s pastry chef. Ten years later, when the family fortune is lost and she has no place to live, Komomo encounters Natsu again in her hour of need. Now that Natsu is a master pastry chef in his own right, he’ll help Komomo—but only if she works for him at his new confiserie!
Now that Komomo’s family is bankrupt, the arranged marriage her father had planned for her is most likely void. With her future now open, Komomo decides to look for love and start dating. Natsu offers himself up to be her suitor, but will Komomo accept him?

"They say that a good pair of shoes...will bring good encounters."
Hell yeah they do! Especially when they bring you this guy, Seto <3 Why is this not an anime?
So Komomo and Rise form a friendship and try and support each other. When Komomo learns that Rise's crushing pretty hard on some dude, she tries to help her. Things happen and then Komomo and Rise come out stronger and now Komomo wants to experience love.
But wth is it? She tells Natsu she wants to fall in love with him to his horror and he proposes they date. He uses this excuse to get her to do his chores but really, he's teaching her a lesson. Love doesn't bloom just like that and saying something so careless can hurt someone.
I was laughing at these parts because Komomo was acting out the Titanic, Cinderella, etc with Natsu, thinking that's what love was. When she realizes how stupid and naive she's been, she vows not to search for love, but to let it come naturally.
And naturally it does. She meets our dreamboat Seto!! Hot dude, blonde hair, ponytail?! Like YESSSS. Seto is a shoemaker who also comes from a wealthy background. He gave that up to pursue his dream of shoemaking and offers to fix Komomo's for a price she sets since she truly admired his work.
But then she falls for him. And I have no idea which ship I want to sail! In shojo, the love interest that wins is always the dark haired guy and the first one who showed up, and considering the history Natsu has with Komomo, they will end up together. I just really wish the second guy got a chance. But Seto doesn't seem to like Komomo back so far, so right now I can only imagine what will happen.
I really, really enjoyed this volume. We had a strong female friendship that started off terribly in volume 1, we watched Komomo learn that love isn't exactly what the movies portray, and that love comes in the most unexpected of times.
I really am glad I picked this up and am super happy that this was the book I chose to start off the new year with.
All the manga I read I have bought. I DON'T support scanlations.
So this volume starts with Komomo going over to Rise's house and spending some time with her. While she's there, she gets to meet Rise's crush. Sadly, Rise, when nervous, gets rather mean and she's mean to her crush and it's something she wishes she could change. Komomo offers to help her with love and works on a plan. The plan works and Rise gets her date with her crush and Komomo gets to go on her first ever date with his best friend.
But nothing goes as planned and the guys only want to hurt the girls for money. Natsu shows up to save the girls and carries Komomo in his arms till she wakes up. Her offers to give her a better first date and she accepts and they have fun together. When she tries to kiss him, he backs away, but she says she wants to fall in love with him. So they start dating and they do all these romantic things that Komomo wants. Finally when he tries to kiss her, she dumps him.
She soon meets Seto, a sweet shoemaker, and she falls in love with him but doesn't know it yet. It also turns out that he's from a rich background same as her, only he left all that to follow his dream. Komomo tells his family off and then he also begs them to let him live in his dream. Afterward, an accident happens and they both get hurt. Natsu shows up at the hospital and carries her home, she wakes up halfway there and asks him why she got dizzy and fell after looking into Seto's eyes...
This volume was a little better than the last one, it made me laugh more and also had me smiling a lot. It's really just a fun manga. The art is wonderful and story just flows nicely.
I think my favorite part of this series so far is seeing what Komomo learns in each said volume. She's really grown so much from when we first met her! And what d'ya know, even Natsu has grown too! (Though uncertain of how. Nicer maybe?)
I really liked how Rise and Komomo have become friends and just how they are building one another up. Komomo may be very naive on things (definitely NOT dizzy, just naive), but she still gives all her support to Rise and encourages her the best way she can.
Rise really won some brownie points in how she helped Komomo have an unexpected breakthrough on a certain idea. Natsu won some brownie points for doing the same with Komomo too, BUT!
I didn't fully understand some of his reasonings pertaining to a certain situation. I think it's obvious he cares for her, but Komomo hasn't begun to fully realize this so maybe that’s why?
We meet a new character and I think he's cool! I like him! I don't think there is anything there (at least there better not be!), but I've enjoyed hearing his story.
Ahhh that cliffhanger though! *sigh* I already ordered the third volume and it should be here within a few days, but it’s a few days too long! LOL!
Hopefully GOOD things happen and we see romantic progress in the next volume because I felt like this volume was the two steps forward, three steps back volume. LOL!
I like this a lot better than volume 1. Mostly because (A) Komomo spends more time with characters other than Natsu, and (B) Natsu spends less time being a jerk to Komomo when he is around.
Natsu's still a jerk, though. And so patronizing! He keeps going on about how Komomo has so much to learn and wanting to teach her this or that, but it's always, like, "I've decided to teach her about love," not, "I've decided to teach her how to actually do her job" or "how to cook" or something. Please, Natsu. You're not some love guru. You're a fifteen-year-old guy who can't even seem to decide how he feels about Komomo. Give me a break with this "she has so much to learn" stuff.
On a separate note: I guess this is maybe a cultural thing, but . . . Komomo is fifteen. Rise is in her class, so I assume she's also about fifteen. Is it not weird that the two of them go on a date with two college guys? Where are Rise's parents in this?
And then, when the college guys turn out to be bad dudes, Natsu shows up to save the day . . . and apparently, utterly trounces the two guys by himself off-screen. Because a skinny fifteen-year-old chef is totally going to be able to take on two college-age guys by himself. *eye roll*
It bothers me how often fiction romanticizes a relationship in which a guy is a jerk to a girl, but then bravely rescues her (maybe more than once), but is still a jerk. Sure, it's nice that he rescues her, but why would you choose to spend time with a person who doesn't treat you well? Even if they periodically come through with something heroic and dramatic when you're in trouble, it would still suck to be in a relationship with a person who can't be counted on to be nice to you most of the time.
I thoroughly enjoyed this cute and funny volume! Komomo's naive and straightforward nature makes for so much fun, and I love how she reacts to Natsu's masochistic tendencies towards her. Really looking forward to the next volume!
While I thought this story would be heading a different way, I'm even more intrigued by how the MC is learning the hard way of the world, and yet, by the end, gets a sweet treat to nudge her in the right direction. I'm not sure why I have mixed feelings. I definitely like the second volume. Maybe it's because I didn't get to see too much of the sweets (even though I learned that there's a macaron cake on this plane of existence-I must find it!). But I know that with more bonding time with some of her friends (the other introduced in the first volume seems to be set aside a lot longer in this one), the MC is becoming more of a great character in my eyes. Verdict: It's almost midnight-and I want a snack consisting of the sweetness of macarons and the next volume of this series!
I really liked this book. I enjoyed volume 1, and this was even better. Komomo is an awesome heroine, primarily due to her personality. I enjoyed the few times in this volume, such as on her date, or with Seto, where she was commanding. It made for some fun scenes! I like that she's a friend, Rise, and that they're learning and growing together. I thought that Overall, this was a great second volume, and I'd definitely recommend it!
I’m not entirely sure where this story is going but I love the scary faces these characters can make! Haha.. Natsu’s evil side kills me! I thought he was going to be a timid goody two shoes at the beginning of this series but I was wrong. I’m glad I was! And Komomo is a straight forward girl with an attitude to rival his. Love love love it!
My favorite Natsu lines in this volume:
Natsu: “Take this with you as a gift.” Komomo: “What is it?” Natsu: “Spoiled meat. And tell her she can go to hell”
Natsu to Yuri: “We started going out last night.” “I’ll kill you if you try to make a pass at her.” “And with that, please support us.”
Typical shojo manga, and more of the same that was in volume 1. The one part I found interesting was a sidebar by the author where she explained that she creates 3D models of the settings to get the backgrounds right depending on where the characters are standing and the angle. I never gave that aspect much thought. She even included detailed sketches of the “sets” of key places where the book takes place. She thought of every little detail in the restaurant kitchen and where everything would be.
Excerpt -- On Bowing Seto: It seems I've offended you. Komomo: I'm sorry. It's not that. I'm just a little disappointed. Seto: How so? Komomo: You bowed down to them. Why? You didn't do anything wrong. To bow down to someone else is humiliating. You had no reason to do that. Seto: But I did. Bowing doesn't matter. I'll do what it takes to accomplish my dream. I've committed to it, so I'll do anything. Isn't that what one usually does?
3.5* i adore komomo so much. but natsu bothers me a lot. in this volume he's trying to teach her that love isn't something that one can decide to do, and i get that, but again, he's like "I'm going to bully you everyday, are you going to give up?" like??? don't teach people to stay with partners who bully them because that's "giving up." i really hope natsu's character improves and stops with this toxic bs because komomo is so great.
This is one of the strangest "love stories" I've read. It's at the point where I'm not completely sure if this will end up becoming a love story. Besides that, the story is interesting. I'm enjoying seeing Komomo make the most of her new life even though things are so different than what she's used to. With the introduction of Seto, I can see a possible love triangle happening. I can't wait to see what unfolds in the next volume.
Komomo is still so incredibly naive as to be annoying. After losing everything, a spoiled rich girl is going to school like a normal person and working in a bakery for the boy who seems to hate her by the harsh way he treats her. Except in this volume we start to see how protective he is of her, especially when a blind date goes really badly.
In short, he spends a lot of time carrying her around while she's unconscious.
I'm still not altogether sure how I feel about this series.
I actually enjoyed this volume much more than the first one. I loved the dynamic between the main characters and I'm interested in seeing where there relationship is going to go. I know that originally he was only supposed to bully her but for some reason I feel like this is going to turn into more and I can't wait to see it happen.
I will definitely continue this series. I love romance stories and gourmet, so I'm glad there are mangas like this! I like that it relates to French culture. The artist is really talented, the art style is cute and I would also like to mention how nice the outfits of the characters are! The sweets look delicious too. I would love to recommend it!<3
I enjoyed this volume so much more than the previous one. Something about the way that Maki Minami writes female friendships is heartwarming. This is like Hime and Tsukino (but also Hime and Ume) all over again. I think that Komomo and Rise complement each other's personalities and flaws very well. I really think that neither of them has had a close friend before, which is why they've been able to connect so easily, almost like kindred spirits. Although hey're both quite naive, but they're still able to look out for each other like when Rise was appalled by Komomo's working conditions and Komomo was picking up on the fact that the guy that Rise's into is absolute trash. And obviously, we have to talk about the fact that Rise was about to physically fight these two men if it meant she could save Komomo, even after Natsu showed up, she was ready to risk her life for Komomo and I want to cry.
I liked Natsu and Komomo a little better in this volume. I still don't really care about them in the way that I have for most other manga couples, but they're okay. Natsu taking her out on her first date was actually pretty cute, not gonna lie. Them "fake dating" was really funny because of course Komomo will want her life to play out like a movie, it's what makes the most sense for her character. (Their Titanic scene took me out, I had to put the book down and get it together.)
The reason why I say that they're just okay is because Natsu's "tough love" approach is not something that I enjoy. I get it, but I hate it.
Also, Komomo's approach to her situation aka going from rich heiress to regular person is something that makes me like her more as a character. She understands and is continuing to understand what her privilege was able to do for her, but regardless, she doesn't want to go back to that because she hated the person she was back then. I especially like how she said that her life is just different, her struggles aren't making it harder for her because she's actually happy for once and I appreciate the way her character is developing.
Now that Komomo has made friends with Kaname, her previous bully, they’ve grown close. Kaname is in a similar position as what Komomo was in her previous life, and they’ve bonded over that. Kaname confesses her love to a guy with Komomo’s help, and then they set up a double date.
Komomo has never been on a date before, having believed that she was still in an arranged marriage, and is excited for this new experience. Some things go wrong, but Komomo still keeps her optimism and tough front. Komomo is now wanting to fall in love, even if it’s with Natsu.
I just love Minami’s stories at this point. The way Natsu humors and torments Komomo is so funny to me, and I love his possessiveness over her as well. I also appreciate the way that Komomo stands up for herself and what she believes in. Her strength and honesty is admirable.
I love this series, the humor and the characters and just everything about it. I can’t wait for the next one.
A review copy was provided by the publisher, VIZ Media, for an honest review. Thank you so, so much!
Volume two takes some ridiculous turns but it’s still proving to be a good and entertaining shojo. Komomo comes from a rich family but when they lose everything she ends up working for the boy she used to tease at his patisserie shop, where he takes every opportunity to get some revenge. This volume starts with Komomo helping her new school friend in love. Now this starts off adorable as they navigate the minefield that is teenage love but swiftly takes a disturbing and sinister turn. Now this…event let’s say, is played off as something quite minor but in actuality it’s horrifying. And from that point onward we’re back to the saccharine sweet content that I expect and love for shojo, including the introduction of a romance staple: the love rival. I do like Komomo, she’s not my favourite shojo protagonist but she has all the characteristics you’d expect (definitely a Mary Sue), but it’s Natsu that intrigued me the most. Sometimes I like him and sometimes I really don’t. This series is only comprised of five volumes so I’m determined to finish it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
