Even world domination requires a Job Safety Analysis.
When the Dark Lord’s new advisor requests help from Duffleooffer & Co Risk Assessors, naturally they send their most fearless inspector. Faced with trolls, dank dungeons, kidnapped scientists and not a single fire plan in sight, Janet Higgins has her work cut out for her. But she is the best and lives are going to be saved whether they like it or not.
Nikki Moyes is a multi-genre writer. Her first book, 'If I Wake' was published in 2016. She was born in Victoria and has moved around Australia amassing an eclectic range of occupations including tallship watch leader, apiarist, rose farm hand, and sandwich artist. In her spare time she learns tissu, static trapeze, and aerial hoop (she couldn’t decide on one) in case she needs to run off and join the circus.
This is my author profile. I sometimes review books on writing but all other books I review under a different account.
I loved the dry humor in this short story! I couldn’t help but laugh out loud multiple times, even though I was reading it in public. The characters are fun and the story is short enough to read aloud, but long enough to feel complete. Great job, Nikki!
Short, sweet, and very down to earth. Janet is a girl boss who struts through her profession like it’s a walk in the park. Dark Lords have nothing on her.
I won this short story through a goodreads giveaway.
I was so interested in this that when I didn't win the goodreads giveaway, I bought it myself. It didn't disappoint. Short, laugh-out-loud funny, clever, and unique. It's short and absolutely worth your time to read.
This was a fun, quick, fantasy read that had me laughing aloud and wanting to read more!
The main character, Janet, is absolutely brilliant and not afraid to call out the Dark Lord on his many safety violations. I’d gladly read an entire novel about this.
If you enjoyed the everyday workings of the castle in 'Assistant to the Villain', you will love this story!
Not normally a YA reader, but I won this book in a giveaway and it was actually really funny to read. Who knew a risk assessor character was exactly what was needed for a funny short story? Give this is a read if you need something silly and light to read.
I really liked the humor in this one. If I had the chance I would give it 4.5 stars. There were a few bits that lasted longer than necessary and a few lines that took me out of the story, but I still really enjoyed it.
