The book, “A Whirlwind Vacation” by Nancy E. Krulik, is a very well-written book. I enjoyed reading this book because it was about two families that go on vacation and meet on a tour bus. They become good friends and decide to go on more tours together. The two families have daughters that are the same age. Their names are Kaitlyn and Annabel. They wander the streets and find new, cool activities they can enjoy doing while on vacation. The title, “A Whirlwind Vacation,” comes in to play when the girls wander off. When one imagines of doing an activity they want to do, it gets windy and they become one of those people. One example of this happening is when Kaitlyn wanted to be a guard for the queen's castle. It started to get really windy around her and all of a sudden she was walking with all the other guards. She thought it was the coolest thing and did it every time they went somewhere. Kaitlyn's parents did not know she could do this sort of thing, so they went to look for her and could not find her. Towards the end of the book the parents find out and go for their last dinner together as two families. The next day they fly back home and talk about their vacation. The two families decided they would plan to meet up again on another vacation.
The main characters in this book are Kaitlyn and Annabel. They are two girls that are around the same age and met on a tour bus. Kaitlyn has red hair and Annabel has brown. The two girls and their families became good friends. Kaitlyn and Annabel plan to keep in touch by writing letters to each other.
The setting of this book is mainly on their vacation in England. In the book, they talk like today’s teenagers. The book was published in 2005.
I think the author is trying to persuade people into going out and exploring the world because you never know what you could discover. Also, that learning another language is helpful in many different situations.
I would recommend this book to any middle school girl. This is a great book because it shows that you need to be brave and talk to other people. Most of the time they will be friendly and talk back to you.
This book is fantastic, I had a read along with my daughter and we laughed so hard. The book has outstanding lessons in morals and not judging people or making fun of them!!! Great book in the No Bully Zone!!!
“‘And change can be good.’” - Got this for Christmas in 2010, maybe? While in Europe, Katie switcheroos into several people. There’s the guard in England who isn’t supposed to laugh, but as Katie, he laughs and becomes a laughingstock in the news. Katie helps him with his dream to become a comedian. Next, Katie switcheroos into Pierre, a French artist, who Katie’s new friend Annabelle insults. As Pierre, Katie “ruins” Pierre’s art with color, but is later able to convince him that change is good, and Annabelle’s parents buy the painting. In Spain, Katie switcheroos to a flamenco dancer and falls off the stage. Katie helps with the aftermath of people canceling their reservations by convincing them to host flamenco lessons. Lastly, Katie swticheroos to Vincenzo, an aspiring gondolier, in Italy. She gets lost and takes twice the time on a gondolier ride, but helps Vincenzo later with Annabelle’s positive review of the ride.
This was a classic childhood staple read of mine. It was giving a lot of 2000s and traveling vibes. This series is perfect for young adult readers.
The main premise revolves around Katie being able to switch bodies with someone at any random moment with a theme of not know what it is like for someone until you walk in their shoes.
