Ramla Zareen Ahmad | 36 comments Sometimes, the 'first line' in a book can be intriguing enough to entice us to read the entire story...!

I'm not absolutely certain of my facts, but I rather fancy it's Shakespeare --or, if not, it's some equally brainy bird --who says that it's always just when a fellow is feeling particularly braced with things in general that Fate sneaks up behind him with the bit of lead piping.

("Jeeves And The Unbidden Guest", a short story in, "Carry On, Jeeves", P.G. Wodehouse)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments Oh wait its first lines of books. That is really hard because the classic lines come from here and there in a book. Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu: " I am now going to tell you something so strange that it will require all your faith in my veracity to believe my story."
