Angus (angusmiranda) | 4337 comments Hi TFG peeps! It's that time of the year again. It's time to accept reading dares and challenges! So how did you fare with the Oracles' challenge last year? Did you finish your book? Or did it gather dust? Don't worry! The Oracles themselves failed (Hi Buddy!), and so we're now demoted to mere mortals with no powers of divine mediation.

With that, we have devised a reading challenge that will not force you to read a specific title. All you have to do is to read books that you only wish to read. Where's the challenge in that? Well, that's what the TFG Bingo Card is for.

You want to participate? Do these five things:

-Shout BINGO!
-Select any number from 1 to 75.
-Tell us your best read of 2015.
-Tell us your worst read of 2015.
-Leave your email address for the delivery of your TFG Bingo Card.

Notes:

-If a number has already been selected, you may no longer pick that.
-You may explain why the books you picked are your best and worst, but you can only choose one each.
-For those attending the F2F on Saturday, please put a placeholder on your best and worst entries for the sake of suspense. Let's just edit them after the F2F, please?
-The TFG Bingo Card will be delivered to the email address you provided.
-Print the TFG Bingo Card and let the bingo squares guide your reading.

Instructions:

-Any book that matches a bingo square allows you to mark that square once you finish that book. For example, if you've just finished reading To Kill a Mockingbird and there's a square that says "Animal in the title", you get to mark that square.
-A book may only be used once to mark a square. For example, if there are squares that say "Animal in the title" and "Debut novel of an author", choose which square you will mark with To Kill a Mockingbird.
-The goal is to mark a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal pattern of five squares on your TFG Bingo Card.
-You may continue creating additional patterns after the achieving your first pattern.
-Each pattern is worth one TFG Bingo sticker. So if you manage a blackout, you'll get 12 TFG Bingo stickers.
-Stickers will be awarded during F2Fs. Just present your TFG Bingo Card and TFG Passport to me.
-TFG Bingo Cards will be sent to your email addresses starting January 24.
-TFG Bingo will run from January 1 to TFG Christmas Party.
-Books read from January 1 to January 23 are valid.
-F2F books, past and present, are invalid.
-Rereads are also invalid.

And remember, once you've completed a pattern, shout Bingo! List the books you've finished reading. It would be nice if there's an accompanying photo so that everyone can see the pattern you've made.

TFG's Best and the Worst Reads of 2015:

Regular bingo cards have a "Free" square. The TFG Bingo Cards do not. Instead of the "Free" square, the "Best/Worst" square is used. This allows us to explore the books that the TFG members loved and hated. Please watch this thread for the full list of our best and worst reads, and for further notes and guidance regarding the squares.

Best Read of 2015: Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard (I so love this book. It was wonderfully written and the world-building was so good which made it easier for me to visualize the story. I am so looking forward to the Glass Sword)

Worst Read of 2015: Fire Study by Maria V. Snyder (I love the series, I just didn't want how the author too much backtracked on the 2nd book - Magic Study. It just didn't work for me.)

Tin (rabbitin) | 560 comments Angus, for the six words in title, are conjunctions and articles counted? Example: Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy-this allowed to fall under said item?

Angus (angusmiranda) | 4337 comments Tin wrote: "Angus, for the six words in title, are conjunctions and articles counted? Example: Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy-this allowed to fall under said item?"

Yes, they do. Run a word count in a word processing program (MS Word and the likes) to verify.

Which brings me to a point. Hyphenated words only count as one. Updated the notes.

No, not necessary. Yes, one is enough. Straight lines of five squares. Yes, they are. I'll copy-paste two items from the instructions that also answer these.

-The goal is to mark a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal pattern of five squares on your TFG Bingo Card.
-You may continue creating additional patterns after the achieving your first pattern.

Marie | 295 comments A question? What's the connection between the number we chose and the bingo card? Is it an additional criterion for the books we will read to create the bingo patterns?

Meliza (mecawish) | 720 comments Marie wrote: "A question? What's the connection between the number we chose and the bingo card? Is it an additional criterion for the books we will read to create the bingo patterns?"

The number we chose just corresponds to our individual Bingo card. Different bingo card, different set of categories/squares.

-One of the main themes of the book should be about books or the publishing industry. It's as simple as that, no need to complicate it. An example would be 84, Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff, which is about the friendship of a reader and a used books seller.

-Please see this link: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... The square is supposed to be 2013 instead of 2014, but the books in that list should be the qualified ones.

-You don't have to read every poem from a poet. You just need to read one poetry collection (a book of poems) from one poet. Example: Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair by Pablo Neruda.

You need to pick a number from 1-75, and this number should be an original one - those at the top have already their cards based on the chosen number (I picked 30 hehehe)

Then Angus shall send you your card. Goodluck on the Bingo~

Hi Lynai, I need a number for your bingo card. Also, we try our best not to select an F2F book as the best/worst, so maybe you can select the next worst? :)
