This book was amazing! When I'm in the mood for a PNR book, I'm always hopeful to find one just like this one. I absolutely loved it! One of the biggest draws for me was the forbidden element of the hero and heroine. They should be enemies but the connection made between them was too strong to resist.

Their first meeting is indescribable. It was unusual, scary and fascinating. It was brilliant because I won't forget that scene. Out of all the brothers, Dagan seemed the most detached. They aren't human but we expect characters to still have human behavior. He did know love of his brothers and father but it wasn't until Roxy that he truly started to thaw. I enjoyed his struggle to grasp the things she was making him feel.

Roxy was just as complex. She tough and standoffish but she's had to be that way. She a woman who feels too much but tamps it down to survive. She was scared of Dagan with good reason but she wanted to trust him all the while telling herself she couldn't.

Both of them are after information about one of his brothers deaths. How was it possible to kill someone who can't die, who did it and why. The biggest question is why so many people are after the same little girl. The road to getting it puts them back into each other's paths to face off many threats.

The first book only reveals some answers. It doesn't end on a cliffhanger but it does leave you wanting more. I'm looking forward to reading more about the brothers.

She’d staved off her terror the whole time they’d left her here, bound and alone. She’d held it in check when the blond guy had shown up, as she tried to decide exactly what his role was, his surfer-boy hair and the lollipop stick between his lips somehow making him seem less threatening.
Talk about irony.
He was the scariest f*cking thing she could ever have imagined.

I read this series several years ago and really enjoyed:

* The fascinating and sometimes complex worldbuilding filled with often unique and interesting characters.
* Its use of Egyptian mythology and the intriguing exploration of the Underworld with its various gods and Machiavellian politics.
* The compelling, sometimes rather graphic action scenes that were often filled with paranormal goodness and surprises along the way.
* The mystery that lies at the heart of this unique journey and is only resolved once the reader takes the myriad dark twists and romantic turns to their conclusion in the final book...

“This isn’t your night to die.”

But the number one reason why I remember all of this so well is because I absolutely adored the leads in the first book and got sucked right into their world.

Roxy Tam is a Daughter of Aset, member of the Asetian guard, and kick ass warrior with a definite attitude. Dagan Krayl is a soul reaper (he's the kind that will rip your heart out - literally) and the oldest son of Sutekh, the Lord of Chaos. Dagan is half human/half god, super hot, and dangerous as hell.

So when I learned that Ms. Silver had recently updated the books and was rereleasing the series, I was like:

Image result for yes please gif

I had so much fun reading this one again, checking out the changes and new material, and enjoying the trip down memory lane.

I've always vividly remembered the part where Roxy and Dagan (Dae for short) met under less than ideal conditions (which is putting it mildly). He ends up saving her life and inadvertently sets her upon a whole new and unexpected path. Considering what he is, his protectiveness towards her hit the spot for me, especially because it baffled him. I love when that happens. That whole scene still intrigues me, makes me laugh (yeah, okay, maybe I'm a bit twisted... you'll know why when you read the scene), plus I'm rather fond of 'just desserts'. It also tempts me to read the book all over again:

For an instant, he saw only her eyes, tiger fierce. The room disappeared, and he saw only those eyes. They reached inside him, found something he hadn’t known he’d lost, hadn’t known he had in the first place. The instant passed, leaving his pulse beating a little harder, his breath coming a little faster. Sexual attraction and… something else.

***

***

The whole thing was insane. She was sitting in a room that had been turned into a slaughterhouse, sucking on a lollipop.
“Think I jumped down the rabbit hole,” she said. “Head first.”
Again the whisper of a smile. “You think?”

I loved their dynamics, their battles, the often humorous banter, the sizzling chemistry and powerful connection they shared that just wouldn't let go despite their 'enemy' status. I never forgot them or their ensuing romance.

"I like having you pinned," he said against her hair. "I think the only position I like better is you beneath me, held down by my weight."
"Primitive, primordial instinct?" she asked, her voice husky.
"I like the idea of possessing you, dominating you." She was his.
"Dominating me?" She laughed and wriggled back against him. "Only if I let you."
As if he could ever fully dominate a creature such as she. The thought made him smile.

These were two people who had had incredibly difficult lives and were essentially alone on so many levels. So when they met, there was definitely attraction but also a deeper kind of recognition and connection that both of them denied for various reasons. But destiny was obviously at work and though they were separated for a time (but often thinking and even dreaming of each other), they were far more intimately linked than they realized...

It's quite the ride.

In the following books, we meet Dagan's brothers (who are also soul reapers) and the women who will capture their hearts as the overarching theme/story unfolds and more pieces are added to the overall puzzle. But in this one, we get the HFN we need (and I love Dagan's choice, Roxy's response, and how it ends - even as the last line before the epilogue cracked me up) before launching into the next part of the tale.

I knew right from the start that these two were 'meant to be' but that they'd have quite the trip ahead of them before they reached their destination. And, once again, I was more than happy to take it with them.

"I love you, Roxy Tam."
She opened her mouth, closed it, opened it again, and whispered, "I f*cking love you, Dagan Krayl."

This is the first of a trilogy so it's a little hard to rate without getting the entire story arc. But I give it 4 stars for the world building which is complex but enjoyable nonetheless.

Dagan Krayl, half mortal/half god saves Roxy Tam's life unexpectedly one night. They form a bond that sticks with them through many years of separation. That's the short version.

In the long version there are gods and demigods of the Underworld and their minions. There are cultists "Topworld" and their minor supernatural helpers. There's death and murder and family drama.

I really like Silver's writing (she's the author of the post-apocalyptic romance, "Driven" that I rave about). I'll admit it bogged down in the middle with a little too much inner monologue non-action, but outside of that things were pretty snappy. While it doesn't end on a cliffhanger exactly, it does end mid story arc. There are a lot of things set up that we don't get to see. This is very much an introduction to the world book but the romance between Roxy and Dagan is very nice. Even with its insta beginning, it feels real and organic. They're both excellent characters. They remind me of the lead characters in the aforementioned "Driven" but that's no drawback at all for me.

I've already bought the rest of the trilogy (which also has a fourth book, but who's counting?) so I'll continue on with the series immediately. So far it's a story line that's kept me engaged so here's hoping that continues. :D

Heads up: This book will be on sale for $0.99 on March 6 2017! This is a one day offer so be sure to look out for it!

This book is amazing, I didn't expect to love it as much as I did. I think I love it more than 'The Game' series, which was one of my top favourite trilogies from last year. I love the characters, the plot and how unique the story is. I love the banter between different characters and how the world building is. This book is so unique and I look forward to reading more of this series in the future!

Dagan Krayl is half human/half god and is a soul reaper of the Underworld. Dagan's job is to go to the Topworld to harvest the darkest souls of mortals to feed to his father, Sutekh, a God of the Underworld. After his brother is killed Dagan is on the hunt to find the person who caused this in order to avenge his brother's death. Roxy Tam is a girl who never hesitates to speak up, she is strong and independent. She feels alone and isolated from society after she was abandoned by her mother when she was five years old. Dagan and Roxy's worlds collide after an incident that leaves their lives in chaos.

The plot of this book is so complex, I feel like if I said too much in the summary, it may ruin the book for those who are planning on reading this. Anyway, I loved the characters in this book so much. Roxy was so different from the heroines that I usually read about in books. She is so strong and I love how she does not hesitate to say anything she pleases, even if it can get her into crazy situations. She has a smart mouth, as Dagan would say and she is so strong. She's a great role model and I love her for it. Dagan is a guy who never hesitates to protect those he loves. He is funny, loves teasing others and has a heart of gold :) Mal is snarky and funny, I feel like I could relate to his character the most, even though he wasn't in the book much. Sutekh was a character that was so cold, I could feel goosebumps while I was reading. He is so powerful and I loved how well his character was described in this book.

The plot was very complex, there were so many things that happened. At first, when I started reading this book I thought I wouldn't understand it because of the amount of characters and how the Underworld was divided, but in the end I did. It was very unique, I loved how everything was set up. The writing style in this book is beautiful, I couldn't get over how good it was. It flowed so well, I couldn't stop reading until the very end.

The pacing of this book was amazing, it wasn't too fast or too slow.

To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of insta-love, but for some reason it didn't bother me that much in this book. It felt realistic, even though there were parts where it got very cheesy. I loved how Dagan and Roxy supported each other and they were ready to protect each other. Although Dagan wants Roxy to be his, I love how Roxy says she does not belong to anyone but herself. I loved her character even more when she said that and I loved how Dagan reacted to that.

Although I predicted the murderer of Dagan's brother correctly, there were many parts where I was left surprised with what had happened.

I enjoyed this book a lot, I can't wait to read more of this series. I highly recommend it to those who want to get out of a reading slump or for those who want to read a unique book with amazing characters.

I'll be off! Don't forget that there is a sale on March 6th for this novel, it is only one day!

The Half human son of an Egyptian god, Dagan is a Soul Reaper whose job it is to collect the dark souls which sustain his father. On a hunt, the dispassionate Dagan's interest is stirred by a soon-to-be victim of the ones Dagan is hunting. Dagan admires young Roxy Tam's brave spirit and sassy mouth - even in the face of the danger Roxy doesn't give up - and Roxy awakens something in Dagan which causes him to free her once he's harvested her captors' souls.

The action for the bulk of the story continues 12 years later, with Roxy and Dagan on opposing teams, both seeking the soul of a murdered reaper. Roxy is now a powerful warrior for the goddess Aset, and Roxy's patron and Dagan's father, Sutekh, are enemies. But even with all the time that has passed - and even though Roxy blames Dagan for a transition which has made her more than human - there is still a connection between the pair, and despite the reasons for the enmity between them, they will need to figure out how to work together to find the killer and the answers behind the Reaper's death.

I really enjoyed Sins of the Heart, the first full length novel in Silver’s Otherkin trilogy. I thought all of that all of the different mythological elements (mostly Egyptian) added an interesting flavor to the story. And I really liked both of the leads, warrior Roxy with her sass, who has conflicted feelings for Dagan – she has had steamy dreams about him for years, but can’t decide whether to act on her attraction or cause Dagan grievous harm. And I really like Dagan, who doesn’t realize he is capable of feeling any of the softer emotions but who pursues Roxy with a feral intensity once he finds her again. I also really like the intense loyalty between Dagan and his brothers and I am looking forward to more of the sons of Sutekh when the series continues with Sins of the Soul. If you’re looking for more of the Otherkin while you are waiting for the next of Dagan’s brothers, Silver has a standalone connected short, Sin’s Daughter set in the same world.

Roxy Tam is a child of the system. Abandoned suddenly by her mother when she was five, Roxy was passed from foster family to foster family, never truly being alone but always incredibly lonely. Freshly turned out into the world of adults, Roxy is quick to trust resulting in her being abducted, bound and held in a cell until her captor can languish in the blood bath that will soon be her death. Fortunately she's saved but by the most unlikely of strangers, someone who is most definitely NOT a savior.

Daegan Krayle is a soul reaper. Half mortal, half god, Daegan scavenges the Topworld to harvest the most soiled of human souls to feed his father, Sutekh. A man of many names, Sutekh is a God of the Underworld, a realm divided neatly into thousands of territories each with its own master jockeying for power. Pushing, pulling and jousting for allegiances, all this havoc of past and future betrayals is orchestrated without crossing a tenuously thread-thin line that if broken, could ultimately lead to the complete annihilation of mortals and immortals alike. Now, after his three hundred year long dark existence, Daegan's life is forever changed when his coming fate aligns with that of a young girl. Never has a mortal glimpsed his face and lived to tell about it until Roxy Tam.

Skip eleven years to the present and the afore mentioned thread-thin line maintaining the world's continued existence has gotten fearsomely near its snapping point. One of Daegan's three brothers has been murdered which is virtually impossible. As a soul reaper like Daegan, Lokan can only die one way and only in the Underworld. But dead he is which can only suggest the hand of a powerful supernatural was involved. Knowing that Sutekh has countless enemies, the list of suspects is vast but incriminating evidence suggests that the Daughters of Aset are to blame leading Daegan's quest for revenge right to Roxy's front door.

Having lived with the need and loss of her savior for over a decade, Roxy has given up hope of ever dispelling Daegan Krayle from her mind completely. He haunts her dreams, igniting her body aflame with lust making any relationship in reality a complete waste. He's also changed her into a parasite, an animal in need of taking blood and to forgo means facing unbearable pain. He did this to her and then left her with a wad of cash and the warning to stay away from the Daughters of Aset. It only took a year from that day for Roxy to find them and join their ranks, and however low her position may be, she finally has a family to call her own. But when the unprecedented death of a soul reaper finds Roxy being charged with the task of gathering information that will keep the reaper dead, Roxy begins to uncover some startling revelations that includes the possibility of the Daughter of Aset being behind the murder. Knowing that the Daughters of Aset are Sutekh's number one enemy, that would be a really bad, bad thing for humanity. However, nothing can be worse than Daegan Krayle re-entering her life.

Daegan has dreamed of Roxy for a eleven endless years and it rankles him greatly to learn that after all the this time while he'd forced himself to maintain distance, hoping that Roxy had attained the life he'd wanted for her - a normal life - she'd instead gone and joined the ranks of his eternal enemy but nothing irritates him more then his uncontrollable desire to possess her body, mind and soul. It's a desire that has never waned but rather only increased and now faced with fact that Roxy has knowledge regarding his brother's death, Daegan delights in the need to keep her close until she's compelled to spill all but he never thought he'd join forces with her. As enemies circle ever closer with Roxy as their main target, Daegan realizes that it will be the end of him to lose her. And while knowing that his change in allegiance from Sutekh to Roxy will surely spell his doom, Daegan will do anything to keep her heart shielded within the protective strength of his arms forever.

My Thoughts:

Having loved Eve Silver's gothic novels before, I was desperate to experience her new dark paranormal series from Harlequin but the wait, unfortunately, was more unbearable then usual. After being disgruntled with the lack of available information regarding this series - it's a bit of a pet peeve of mine when author sites aren't consistently updated - it was therefore a relief to find that the grueling wait for Otherkin Trilogy book one, SINS OF THE HEART, was genuinely worth all the pain and suffering it indirectly caused.

Roxy is a caustic, hard as nails, hard to manage female who's currently torn in her allegiance making her wonderfully vulnerable. She's suffered early from her naivete which has inevitably lead her to clam up around any who make any probing movements leaving her once again never alone but incredibly lonely. There's only one whom she can truly share her heart and soul with and that's Daegan but his abandonment has both hurt and angered her making their getting-to-know-each-other scenes tension filled. It also doesn't help that her heart is threatened from two conflicting fronts: One, from Daegan's loving possession, and two, from Daegan's soul reaper claw. Hmm...decisions, decisions. I for one enjoyed the conundrum Roxy faced.

And then there's Daegan. He's a man who isn't afraid to get right down to the point and the way he does it will leave you absolutely squirming in your seat. While like Roxy, Daegan has grown up lonely but with the sad exception of being surrounded by people. Instead his isolated childhood took place in the Underworld resulting in Daegan's stilted and direct conversation skills. It also makes his fascination with Roxy utterly consuming as though he's looking at her with blinders. As though no one else is worthy of his regard but her thereby making Roxy the sole fixture of his complete and intense attention. *shudders* He's a thrilling hero.

Roxy and Daegan were an amazing and fluid pairing, however, I finished SINS OF THE HEART feeling that their romance was jilted merely for page count. Twenty-five to fifty pages more and this would have been a stellar read for me, instead it ends abruptly with me flipping the final pages thinking "No way! That's it?". While the plot holes in the over-reaching plot arcs are to be expected, and really there were no significant plot holes in terms of Roxy's and Daegan's romance, there was, however, precious little to show for it. In light of that, I do acknowledge that this particular plot had to be a challenge for Ms. Silver given the fact that much needed to be accomplished and set up before diving into the good stuff between the hero and heroine and the abruptness of the ending while disappointing, was not deal breaking. Rather it left me with a few nagging questions that could have easily been cleared up with some additional page time.

Other wise, SINS OF THE HEART, is a smashing start to a dark and thrilling trilogy, one that shouldn't be missed by any who deem themselves paranormal romance lovers.

4.5 Stars ... An act of honor, an act of loyalty, and an act of betrayal all collide in a complicated construct of family, politics, secrets, and love... Egyptian gods and goddesses, soul reapers, the Daughters of Aset, and a unique view of the afterlife in the underworld take center stage in this fascinating and dangerous world filled with creatures of the dark and warriors of the light... As I became fully immersed in this story, I found myself attempting to connect the intricate pieces to a very large puzzle not quite knowing where the journey would ultimately lead... I was pleasantly surprised at some of the revelations that took me off guard and twisted the story in unexpected ways... I found myself engaged with the characters and their unique and dynamic personalities; the connection and chemistry between Dagan and Roxy was a heady mix of sensuality and sexual intensity that had depth and a sense of truth to it’s obstacles and challenges... I highly anticipate delving into the brothers’ stories and seeing how the final pieces coalesce in this complex story:)

Roxy Tam is strong, yet venerable at the same time, a member of the Artesian Guard. She was abandoned by her mother when she was only five then experienced the care system and suffered a tragic event which lead to her becoming strong, self reliant and afraid of being alone forever. She has no real family and is scarred by her early life.

Roxy is tied up when we first meet her, when Dagan appears she thinks he’s come to kill her rather than her original capture. But he tells her “this is not your night to die” before she witnesses him killing her two captures then removing their hearts and dark souls. He was entranced by the female who was shaking with fear yet did not scream and was defiant towards him.

Although he is a soul reaper, an immortal, he allows Roxy not only to go free but to see his face, and live, unheard of. But Dagan has some sort of connection to Roxy and when he sees her pendant tries to warn her ageist the Daughters of Aset. Only nineteen “and a half” - he has no choice but to leave her. Warned her noting more he can do. He tries to forget about her.

Dagan Kryale is a soul reaper, he harvest dark souls for the consumption of his father Sutekh. Dagan is one of four brother Sutekh bred with human women and raised all of them apart, Dagan the only one raised in the Underworlds. The brothers bonded and become very close.

Eleven years later Roxy and Dagan are reunited when chasing information which turns out to be about the same case, but Roxy has not been told the full story about what is going on, as usual. Lokan, one of Dagan’s brothers, has been killed, something which should be almost impossible. Both Sutekh and the Asetian Guard want to find the body first but for very different reasons. Dagan wants vengeance and a chance to resurrect his brother, all the evidence seems to point towards the Daughters of Aset being responsible.

Dagan can not understand his overwhelming reaction to Roxy, Soul Reapers do not have much emotion, certainly not towards their enemies, the Daughters of Aset. Throughout the eleven years Roxy had dreams about Dagan in a strange overly real way, which would waken her sweating. Dagan had what can best be described as waking dreams of Roxy, but he tells him self soul reapers do not dream. The attraction between Roxy and Dagan burns under the surface for a long time before they finally give in to desire. Theirs is an attraction between two venerable and distant people who are just right together.

The perpetrators of the crime are not what the reader anticipates, the twists and turns kept me interested and I did not feel that the murderer was made to obvious too soon. The other characters were all well written and developed, even the minor ones. A lot of the information given about each will probably become even more relevant as the trilogy develops.

Sins of the Heart is dominated by lots of detailed world building with a lot information about the many characters, Topside and the various realms of the Underworld. Egyptian mythology is heavily used in building the world and the detail was fascinating, even if it does make you concentrate on which bit is about who! The complex information is a lot to take in but made the story really powerful and much more intriguing.

Sins of the Heart is a great first book in the Oherkin Trilogy. It ends on a real cliff hanger and I am really looking forward to Sins of the Soul and Sins of the Flesh.

When Roxy Tam first met Dagan Krayl, a soul reaper and son of Sutekh, the Egyptian god of Chaos, he changed her life forever. Now, eleven years later, the two find themselves on opposing sides while investigating the murder of Dagan’s youngest brother. Can they put old hurts and rivalries aside in their common goal to discover the truth and prevent an all-encompassing war that may result in the destruction of humanity?

Note: This review has been updated following Eve Silver's re-release of the book with a new cover, edited content and added material. An advance copy of the new release was provided to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.

The new release resolves the slow start of the initial edition by streamlining the chapters, which results in a faster pace and a clearer conceptualization of the complex connections between characters and events. It should be noted that the story still ends on a minor cliffhanger, but this only leaves the reader gasping for more.

Even though this is my second read through, the mystery is still compelling and the process of following the clues is as enjoyable as ever. The unanswered questions from the first version remain. However, they are ultimately resolved by the end of the series, and the journey is well worth the effort.

Roxy and Dagan have an intense and sensual relationship, and both are extremely likeable. Roxy is strong willed, defiant and honorable, and Dagan is intelligent, charming and sensitive despite his occupation as a soul reaper. The push and pull between them is captivating, and seeing them reconcile their conflicting loyalties makes for entertaining reading.

In terms of the secondary characters, there are numerous gods and their minions to keep track of (although not as many, thankfully, as in Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunters series). In the previous edition, the more prominent figures, such as Dagan’s brothers, were not as fleshed out as they could have been, and Silver has added some much needed detail in this area.

Silver's writing flows smoothly and the banter between characters, especially between the hero and heroine, is witty and engaging. There are still some disjointed transitions between scenes and chapters, but the world of the Otherkin is very intriguing.

Overall, a bold beginning to an excellent series although some readers may find it too dark and gritty for their tastes. Looking forward to reading the rest of the re-releases.

This was an interesting book. It straddles the line between UF and PNR while simultaneously being both. At least to me. I really enjoyed the execution of the story and at first I was turned off by the multiple POVs (it's a thing I can't stand in books, reads too much like TV) but the way the author did it, made it so it wasn't so obtrusive to the story. I still didn't like it, but I could swallow it better since I didn't have it at every page turn like I do in BDB. Anyways the book is primarily about Roxy and Dagan. Dagan is a soul reaper who feeds his father the darksouls he collects. Roxy is an interesting female he runs into while on a job, but there is more to her than meets the eye.

I enjoyed the whole story, I wanted to continue reading the parts that bugged me to a degree were the fact that one they said it was at a weird time and with Dagan not being human it didn't seem to take him long to come to that conclusion even though he doesn't understand human emotions. It was weird and seemingly out of place and too early. The plot is also not finished. While we know some pieces we do not know the whole story and we do not know who killed the soul reaper, well not entirely.

Still I'm very interested to see where this goes and how it turns out. I have some suspicions but am not 100% sure I know how this is going to go.

For some reason this book also reminded me of Blood Shadows (Blackthorn, #1) by Lindsay J. Pryor though they aren't exactly alike at all. But I think I drew parallels from their execution into their stories. They were similar in that regard.

There was no love triangle or cheating in this book. HEA is TBD since this appears to possibly be series long but they did

And while Rene didn't actively recommend the book to me, I saw her review on book 3 with some quotes from the book that intrigued me and happened to be what I was in the mood for, so thank you Rene for the suggestion ;)

ETA: Woah, I just read the synopsis for the novella, which I didn't read yet, and it's funny because it says
The books in the Sins Series are mature, gritty, dark, violent, sexy and straddle the line between Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance.
which it so does!

Um...so this book was kind of perfect and I think I will love Eve Silver for the rest of my days.

First of all I just want to say how much I LOVE and appreciate the fact that the main female character Roxy, is black and she wasn’t some annoying or disrespectful stereotype. The first description of her was “toffee cream complexion and hazel green eyes.” And I shouted RIHANNA?! lol. But seriously, I wasn’t expecting that in this book simply because I’ve actually haven’t SEEN it much and it was a nice, refreshing little surprise.

Besides that, this book was just good, period. I’ve read Eve Silvers young adult series “The Game,” and while the ending of that series was a little bit of a disappointment, I had enough faith in her that I wanted to try out one of her Adult books and it definitely paid off. Sins of the Heart is sexy, mysterious, fun, humorous, exhilarating and most definitely swoon worthy.

Roxy and Dagan were great characters who’s stories were easy to get sucked into and invested in. Roxy Tam is this badass powerhouse who is just trying to find her place in the world and a family to call her own after living most of her childhood and all of her adult life alone. Dagan Krayl is a human / God with Daddy issues, a love for lollipops and a series case of “badboy with an attitude that he can most definitely back up.” Roxy and Dagan are mortal enemies but betrayals, lies and deceit set them on a path that can only lead to one another.

The chemistry between these two was sizzling from the very beginning of the book and there is nothing I love more than great chemistry between characters. If you get me with the relationship, you basically have me hooked. But more than that, this book was just wonderfully executed. Much of the story centered around Dagan and Roxy, their personal demons and figuring out their roles in each others life, but the underlying story arc was also riveting as well. There wasn’t a time in the book where I was bored and the entire time I was reading, I was intrigued about where the story was going but had no clue about its direction and I say that in a good way.

I can’t remember the last time I’ve read a book that was shrouded in some kind of mystery and I wasn’t able to glean where the story was going or what the big ‘twist’ was going to be. Every turn in this book was a surprise and every twist, shocking, smart and beautifully executed. When certain things were revealed, I was literally saying to myself “I would have never saw that coming.” And I LOVE that. I loved that this book kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. I was up until four in the morning reading and did NOT want to put this book down even though I needed to be up for work in 4 hours. It was just that good.

I knew this was a five star book for me when I got to the epilogue and hadn’t even realized that I was at the end. Sins of the Heart ended with a cliffhanger which Eve Silver has proved time and time again to be wonderful at executing. This book introduces three of Dagans brothers. Lokan, Mal and Alastor who he’s very close with. Another thing I loved about this book. Nothing gets me like a great sibling relationship especially between brothers. The rest of the books in the series are told from the brothers’ perspectives and usually I’d be frustrated with that. But the way things were left off, their stories need to be explored in order for the full picture to be revealed and I can’t wait to get to it. I’ve already purchased the next book in the series.

I’ve been going on for the last month about how I want to get a nice catalog of NA authors who write well rounded and entertaining novels. But I’m starting to think I should just skip that and head straight into the adult genre.

Eve Silver!!! THANK YOU! I haven’t enjoyed a book this much in quite some time.

3.5 - This was the first book in a seres about 4 brothers who are the sons of the God of Chaos. They are soul reapers. This book is the eldest (Dagan Krayl)son's book.

This book starts out very complicated and full of egyptian & underworls mythology. I love that, but it was presented way too complicated. It just starts running this complicated story, and it took me until I was half way through to figure out who was who. A faction or temple was mentioned, and chapters later there would be a discussion by people of that faction, and so I was left to back pedal & several times I found myself saying Ahhh! I get it!

I did not have a draw to the heroine (Roxy). Nope. She just never appealed to me at all. Dagan was supposed to be a mega hot guy, but the ugliest gas station attendant is pictured on the cover.

The writing and style is good. It's a keeper as far as sticking with the series now that I finally figured out whose who. The covers have a great design & don't look cheesy, but all the covers have ugly ass men on the front. Ewwww!!

Listened to this on audible. Great narrator.
This was the best ending to a love story I've read in a while. That last sentence killed me. Day is so inhuman the shit he does is just so hilarious. Overall story arc & world building hold much promise. Going to listen to book 2 next.

Oh boy. I'll try to make this short and sweet, the book is paced well but not fast it really wants to take its time in some of the details, but the sex is on fire, the Egyptian aspects totally cool and any guy that hands me a bloodied heart is a guy I wanna meet. I'll take book 2 please!

I like the concept of this book but the execution was really disappointing. The writing is very repetitive, and relies way too much on telling instead of showing. The "mystery" was both obvious and yet, when the characters "figured it out", felt unearned. Finally, I know there are some people who are turned on by rape fantasy (which isn't really my thing, but it's fiction, so whatever works for you) and others who are so offended by it there is no redeeming a book that has it (which I also totally understand). However, I can't figure out who this wishy-washy, pseudo-aggressive nonsense is supposed to work for:

I want to kick this door down and ravish her.
Hey the door is unlocked. That means she wants it, right?
No, dumbass. There is no lock on the bathroom door!
Oh, gee. My bad. I'll just leave then.
No. Stay. Ravish me!

Sins of the Heart was a deliciously fun read. With a semi-cliff hanger ending, I'm left wanting more and wanting it now. I won't get into the mythology in the story much because (1) I'm sure someone else's review can give you that and (2) I'd probably screw it up.

But, I will tell ya that Dagan Krayle is the eldest son of Sutekh, the Lord of Chaos. He's a 300 yr old soul reaper who is tasked with retrieving malevolent souls for his father to feast on. Dagan has four immortal, half human sons he bred specifically for this duty. Although they grew up apart, they have bonded as brothers. For reasons each their own, they all love and hate their father. But, they serve him as they are told.

While out on a harvest, he encounters a girl he cannot help but admire. She's bound, but not screaming. Clearly trapped and about to be tortured by Dagan's prey, but showing no weakness, she's a fighter.

Roxy Tam, at the time only nineteen "and a half", assumes he's here to kill her. Once he reassures her that "This is not your night to die", he helps free her. After spotting her necklace, he tries to warn her off pursuing the Daughters of Aset.

Flash forward eleven years, neither Dagan nor Roxy have been able to forget their "moment" together. They are both experiencing "waking dreams" which leave them craving the other.

But, now, having joined the Daughters instead of avoiding them, as Dagan warned, Roxy is sent to retrieve a kidnapped girl. She's not being told everything though. Soon Dagan and Roxy's paths cross again. Dagan is on the hunt for his baby brother's killer. It should've been impossible for someone to kill him, yet he's gone, no one can find his body or soul. Once together again, they are both found wondering ... Can a Daughter of Aset and a Son of Sutekh not only work together, but BE together?

The beginning of the story is full of world building and mythology, but all of it was interesting and flowed in a way that wasn't painful to the reader. Once the story got going it didn't let up. Dagan and Roxy are a good match. Roxy is a fighter, made tough by her childhood experiences and Dagan has found a connection he thought impossible. They have both been alone for the majority of their lives and now they have each other.

I am looking forward to jumping into the rest of the trilogy, Sins of the Soul and Sins of the Flesh.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin for giving me the opportunity to read this book free-of-charge.

Want a story that's full of plot twists? With a male lead that's hot and yet aloof, and a female lead that's feisty and has a backbone that would put badass warriors to shame?

Search no more, for this book has it all!

Roxy Tam was once saved by Dagan Krayl, a sugar-loving soul reaper. Ever since then, her life has never been the same. Becoming one of the Daughters of Aset, Roxy is now trying to find the remains of Dagan's dead brother and make sure they're not used to resurrect said brother. But Dagan isn't going to let anyone stand in his way of taking care of his family business, nor is he willing to let her go a second time. Turns out they might have to work together after all, even if they stand on opposing sides of this supernatural war.

I'm telling you, I loved this book, and I can't wait to get my hands on the next one! Not only was it fast in pace, full of suspense, and I was left constantly wondering who the heck was the traitor who had caused all this mess, the main couple was HOT! Dagan was dominant and yet adorable in his possessive, lollipop-sucking ways, and Roxy was a match made in heaven for him, with her tendency to stand toe-to-toe with him and prove that's she's not the little girl he had saved so long ago.

Alastor and Calliope were also very interesting secondary characters. I can honestly say, I'm very much looking forward to reading more about them in the books to come! Not to mention, I really want to find out about the kid, and Lokan!

This book offers everything readers who love fantasy or mythology look for. The Egyptian mythology in the background was interesting and I loved Dagan and Roxy. These two characters manage to first meet when Roxy is nineteen and is chained up and will likely to be murdered by a serial killer. Dagan is a soul reaper and he shows up to take the soul of the serial killer and saves Roxy. Saving her wasn’t his prime objective and he tells her to go find a life, a normal life that won’t put her in his path in the future. Eleven years later, Roxy is a Daughter of Aset, which makes her an enemy of Dagan.

They now have to join forces as the one behind the murder of his brother is also seeking the child who was meant to be sacrificed, that is if Roxy hadn’t rescued her and now has her hidden away.

This story was quite intense and graphic and there’s a lot of bloodshed. In the midst of the violence, the chemistry between Roxy and Dagan is white-hot. My only problem with this story is the cliffhanger ending and zero closure. If the rest of the series proves to be as intense as this first book, readers will not want to waste any time acquiring the next book. This is my first time reading the work of Eve Silver and I am looking forward to reading more.

My Final Verdict: This pulse-pounding story was riveting filled with non-stop action and spicy chemistry. I highly recommend this book to fans of the fantasy genre and the series should be read in order to understand the background of the characters.

Thank you to the publisher, Romance Beckons, who provided an advance reader copy of this book via NetGalley.

Dynamic duo

Dagan is not a bright knight in shining armor and he wasn't there to save the damsel in distress. No, he was there to kill and destroy and Roxy just happened to be caught in the middle. I loved their dynamic. Lots of thrill and action. Its a slow burn romance between Roxy and Dagan with ups and downs. However the mystery piece holds it all together. Couldn't sleep until I finished it. Have to read the next one.

Roxy is a heroine who can take care of herself. As a Daughter of Aset, it is her job to protect humans and she is very good at what she does. But Roxy is not an in your face female who constantly feels she has something to prove. While she is strong and can hold her own with the best of them, there is a side of her that fears being completely alone. She was abandoned by her mother when she was five and everyone she has cared about since has left her, including Dagan Krayl. She knows what he is and even though she should despise everything about him, she dreams about him and what it would be like in his arms and in his bed. But she is angry with him. 11 years ago Dagan saved her life then left her. It is this and not that fact that he is a reaper and son of the Lord of Chaos, Sutekh, that really has stuck with her.

Dagan was not left unaffected by their meeting 11 years ago. He left her because he wanted her to have a normal life even though the thought of her with another man made him have violent thoughts. He didn't want her in his world but once he reunites with her, he sees that despite his efforts to warn her away Roxy is now a Daughter of Aset who are sworn enemies of Sutekh and his sons. Dagan is not a villain. He is a reaper yes but only goes after those with dark souls (i.e. murders, rapists etc). He too has been having vivid dreams of making love and they all include Roxy. When he thinks something has happen to her, he goes in search of her not caring of the consequences. When they finally come face to face again he knows that she is his and he will do everything to protect her and I felt Roxy truly deserved to have that kind of love and devotion. Their reunion may not have went over smooth at first (a knife to the thigh may have been involved) but you feel their love and connection come off the pages.

Something else I really loved reading was the connection between Dagan and his other brothers. Their bond and love for each other is unbreakable and I enjoyed reading every scene they were in together. All made even better by the fact that their was heavy sarcasm involved.

The story line of Sins Of The Heart was great but at times confusing. Their is a lot of religion and mythology involved and a lot of names thrown around that had me scratching my head. Some of it I didn't feel was necessary and added to the confusion. A guide at the back of the book explaining who was who and what realm they ruled over would have been very helpful. Sutekh is the Lord of Chaos and is feared by all. When his youngest son is murdered he sends out this remaining sons to find his body so it an be reanimated and to find out who would dare do such a thing not caring about the deadly consequences. There is a lot of side deals and scheming in the underworld to the point I am not sure who did it. I liked not knowing what would happen next and there were a few surprises I did not expect. Sins Of The Heart is the 1st book in the Otherkin trilogy so if you like things neatly wrapped in a bow at the end of each book, you are not going to get that here.

It did take me a while to get into. It feels slow at first and there are several different things going on in different places but once everything starts to come together, the book really takes off and is hard to put down. Eve Silver does a fantastic job crafting a world that is suspenseful, dark and wonderfully sensual. Sins Of The Heart is a great start to what looks like will be an addicting trilogy.

I liked this one more for the plot than for the romance.
Since things ended up in an unfinished status, I feel like I need to read the other books, for it looks like the main plot will be developed throughout all the books, even though each one features a different main couple.

I´ve read good reviews about Eve Silver´s Otherkin Trilogy and thought maybe I´ll give the first book a try. Well, I´m glad I did.
I really loved the world Ms. Silver created and the book included everything I love to read about: (a mix of) mythology, action, interesting plot and of course a wonderful love story. The mystery was quite exciting and I had some prime suspects but I didn´t figure it out who the killer was (I NEVER figure it out by the way, sigh). But to my relief the killer wasn´t revealed at the end of the book, I will have to be patient and read the next ones...
The underworld was an interesting place in this story. All kinds of different gods have their own territory and own judiciary and one has to be careful trespassing into another realm because of course all gods are at odds with each other. Sutekh, the Lord of Chaos and father of Dagan Krayl - the hero of this story - is the most powerful and horrible of them all. Dagan is a soul reaper and eldest son of Sutekh. He and his three brothers have the task to "feed" their father with dark souls. But when one of the brothers is killed - what should be an impossibility - there´s an uproar in the netherworld and the remaining three brothers are trying to resurrect their dead brother. What brings them in conflict with the Daughters of Aset who have just the contrary agenda - who is dead should stay dead! Roxy Tam the heroine is a member of the Asetian Guard and when Roxy and Dagan meet and fall in love the moral conflict is pre-programmed...
I liked both the hero and the heroine and although Roxy is one of those snappish heroines I´m usually not very fond of I didn´t mind in her case.
All in all it was a remarkable book exactly on my wavelength and I´m looking forward to read the following books.
Well done, Ms. Silver and five stars!

Actually, it would be more accurate to say that this was a 3.5 star book. It's definitely an interesting addition to UF, though it has it's flaws.

Roxy the heroine, is a daughter of Aset, meets the hero, Dagan Krayl, son of Sutekh. Actually, they meet before she becomes a daughter of Aset, but the end result is that they are enemies. 10 years later, they meet again, never forgetting each other. Unfortunately, it is to find the killer of Dagan's brother Lokan (who I'm actually liking a lot). Considering everyone is part of or linked to the underworld (through some sort of mythology), things are a bit morbid and dark.

Alright, the concept of the story, is quite good. In fact, it's the best part of the book. We get to see all the mythological underworlds being fleshed out. The H/h are the forbidden, enemies to lovers type, which is great for sizzling buildup. The other characters are interesting. Weird and dark and kinda scary, but still interesting.

So what exactly is wrong with this book? Well, I hate really badass, emotionally unavailable heroines. I can't help it, they suck. Roxy is one of them. But somehow, in the last quarter of the book, she has a personality change and becomes somewhat likeable. The romance between Dagan and Roxy was a bit forced with excessive sexual tension, but it was only ok. And then, there was this whole repetition of son of Sutekh vs daughter of Aset. But honestly, we got it the first 10 times.

Overall, I think I will continue with the series, but the beginning of the book is kinda hard to get through - in fact, the first half was pretty dull for me. There is no resolution in the book and the plot continues to the rest to the series, I believe. The ending (because I listened to this as an audiobook) had these cool sound effects as a really dramatic scene happened with was kinda fun.

Yall know how I feel about those nasty cliffhangers. Well, I knew this one ended that way but the reviews intrigued me until I had an itch that needed to be scratched. I downloaded the book last week and read it non-stop while I was in the hospital for 24-hour cardiac observation...(long story). This story was so good that I read it with the background noise of a heart monitor and doctors trying to figure out how I was walking around with a blood pressure in stratosphere. Me, I just read my Kindle to keep the fear at bay. The nurses began to ask what I was reading and soon got into the story. A few told me they had been on the fence about buying an e-reader. I think most changed their mind after seeing my dedication. Amazon should send me a thank you gift certificate. I took my Kindle with me for every test and read to keep from freaking out. I say all this to assure you...this is a good story. I found Eve Silver's paranormal perspective was quite brilliant...soul reapers are not demons or angels but they are similar. There is a foundation in mythology from all regions of the world but mostly early Egyptian gods. The love story had more of an urban fantasy feel in that it was not about the goo-goo eyes and sweet nothings; it was all business before jumping to the skin show. As a matter of fact, the main characters were not together in most scenes. The only thing I did not like was Ms. Silver's tendency to be redundant when the main characters would think on one another. They pretty much relived their initial meeting and dissected each minute over and over. It was a lot of wasted text in my opinion. That was the only imperfection for me. So why not 5-stars? It's a cliffhanger penalty. Of course, I was not going to completely let that go.

Ok, with this one. I had a hard time with my rating. I couldn't decide if I wanted to give it a 4✭ or 5✭'s. My reasons for wanting to give it a 5✭ was That, this was a great story full of mystery and excitement and wonder. The story is so complexed but at the same time you do understand whats going on. It's full of many puzzling pieces that you have to figure out and put together. I found myself enjoying it.

I also liked all the characters and we sure do have a lot of them to get to know. You have Roxy and Dagan who were a great team and hot together when they finally met up again. A butt kickin couple rocks! Dagan has three brothers that we kinda get to know, I really liked them and can't wait to hear more about them in the other books to this series.

Reasons for wanting to give it a 4 was because, I have a pet peeve about books being labeled paranormal romance and they turn out to be more of an urban fantasy book. The romance in this story does not come until way more than half of the book, like say pg. 300. Being a sucker for romance I found the book lacking in that area, but when it came it came with a punch and it was well written and well worth the wait...

So it came down to going with 4✭'s (being a romance freak) hey I like that maybe I should change my profile name to that. ;) Any way all in all great story slow on getting the couple to be together but great a storyline over all should have been labeled as an urban fantasy.

Heres my vision of Dagan&Roxy.. I also have a theme song for this book ever had one? (Sweet Dreams)by Beyonce.

As I started reading Sins of the Heart and throughout it, I kept getting the euphoric feeling that I have found a new favorite author. The same feelings I had when I started reading Gena Showalter, Kresley Cole, Karen Marie Moning and the like authors. Sins of the Heart had everything I look for in a paranormal romance: a smart and feisty heroine, gorgeous drool-worthy hero from the Other world, a tight plot, believable and heart-pounding passion along with pages full of action and mystery.

The main thing that kept my interest is the whole new world of dimension that Eve Silver has spun around the traditional myths on the Greek and Egyptian gods like Hades, Set, Isis, and Osiris. She's added her own layers of creative storytelling with her soul reapers, making the adventures seem limitless and I can't wait to gobble up more these guys.

I plan on getting the rest of the Otherkin trilogy as it publish, and I'm so thankful that they are only a month apart in their publishing dates. And I'm happy to share that I found out the Otherkin books will not end with this trilogy, that Eve has two more books planned for the Otherkin world. *fist pump* I can only hope Eve continues to write these books beyond the two planned.

Very good urban fantasy with an interesting plot and satisfying romance! Three soul reaper brothers and sons of Sutekh are searching the people responsible for the murder of their youngest brother. Dagan is the brother featured in this story.

Roxy Tam is a Daughter of Aset, which is also an enemy of Sutekh, is on a mission to gather information on the soul reapers death, and to keep a young girl safe. Eleven years ago, Dagan saved her life and spared her soul, and since then they have had a connection and mutual fascination. They meet again and must make choices on whether to follow their heart.

The Otherin series blends Egyptian and Greek gods and lore, which was interesting to follow. The pacing could have been better. It was frustrating when a critical point in the plot stopped and a subplot unfolded, not unlike little cliffhangers. This continued throughout the book, but fortunately reading J.R. Ward's writing helped me adapt. Overall, Sins of the Heart is a worthy read for urban fantasy fans who like some steamy romance integrated with their story.

Book 1 - Sins of the Heart (Dagan Krayl & Roxy Tam
Bood 2 - Sins of the Soul (Alastor Krayl & Naphré Kurata)

This is an imaginative book with a tint of darkness. Eve Silver has created a cool world with Egyptian Gods, soul reapers, and other underworld deities that are all fighting for power. The poor human girl, Roxy, is way over her head. Yet she’s been touched by the reaper, so consequently she's been tugged into their world and will never be the same.

I liked Dagan and Roxy and I was anxious to see them get together. Before that happens though, there’s a lot of mystery and intrigue to get through first, so this is not a conventional romance. I think the plot was a little muddled, and there were a lot of open ends. Even after finishing the book, I was still confused about the different levels of omnipotence, and how everything was laid out in the underworld. I suspect that may change though as I read the rest of the series.

All in all, this was an enjoyable read and I plan to read book two when I get a chance.
