Since I don't have a television, I am not very familiar with The Chew, but the book was a gift so I decided to check it out (after all, even without TV, I had heard of the show). I thought the book was fun reading, shares decorating ideas as well as recipes and various interviews, but I had some problems with a few of the recipes. I can see where, if they are making this on TV, it would be easy to follow but on a few (very few), the directions seem to be missing something or not flowing properly. Since I was reading these without preparing them, perhaps it will be different but there were a few instances where I thought, "Wait a minute... where did that come from?" All in all, though, I thought the book was fun, easy reading.
I recently picked up a used copy of The Chew: Food. Life. Fun. to give as a gift to someone starting her home cook adventure. While I am only vaguely familiar with the show, there is a great mix of straightforward recipes for entrees, sides, salads, desserts, and cocktails here. They are arranged by season of the year, along with introductory content about the show, its casting, and short blurbs on cast members' hypothetical last meals (as in what would you wish to eat if you knew it were your last meal) and even an etiquette discussion for guests of "What not to bring to a party." I found myself tabbing several pages that I'll be copying into my own rotation before wrapping the book and passing it along to its recipient. All told, I'd rate it a solid 3 1/2 stars.
I found that the recipes in this cookbook weren't really fit for everyday. They were too fancy, too many ingredients, too much time. The more basic recipes are common enough that I already have recipes for them that I would not replace. Overall, I only found one recipe in this book I want to try.
Would have liked to see more money saving tips, meals for two, simpler ingredients, kitchen gadgets and tips, and my favorite segment from their show - the traditional vs less guilt recipe showdowns. And it needs more pictures of the food! Not of the show's set!
Not much new and exciting here. I'm trying the recipe for Slow Cooker Peachy Chicken, but it calls for 3 cups of chicken stock. How will that fit in a 3qt slow cooker? I thought you used as little liquid as possible in a slow cooker. I cut that down to 1/2 c to loosen up the other ingredients. I also cut down the peach preserves from 1c to 1/2 cup. Otherwise it smelled good, we'll see how it tastes tonight :)
I watch this show everyday as I eat my pb&j lunch. It is entertaining to read about the cast of the show but I appear to be a visual learner as it is more fun to see them in action than to read the recipes.
I am enjoying this book, as I enjoy the show. The recipes chosen are a good representation of those presented on the show -and are clearly written and easy to follow. I am having fun reading all of the tips included in the book.
Funny and entertaining just like the show. Would have liked to see more recipes and dialogue with Carla but it worked out. Many of the recipes are outside of the scope of the average home cook but the party suggestions were right on time.
As a fan of the show, I needed to check out this book. There are some good recipes, but not very many that I would make during the regular work week. I did copy down a few that I will be trying out.
What an easy and approachable cookbook! The Holiday ideas are great too. I watch the Chew and love their ideas;how they make each meal economical but still out of this world great!
Just like the show. A good mix of recipes and tips from all the hosts. A lot of the recipes were debuted on the show already, but I still found one that I wanted to keep.
