The Exwires learn the tragic story of what happened to Izumo’s mother, Tamamo, when the Illuminati’s mad Professor Gedoin sought her out in order to conduct his insane experiments. Now Izumo has been captured and is next on the professor’s list of test subjects. Rin, Yukio, Shiemi, Suguro and Konekomaru head deep into Dream Town Inari to rescue Izumo, but what they find there is a horror none of them ever expected…
I hate the queer coded minor villain but I love the character design for Lucifer because it makes me think the author has seen Phantom of the Paradise which would delight me to no end.
Cómo me dolió...

This was really exciting. We finally got a back story from izumo. After all the things she's been through, no wonder she is the way she is. She also just became one of my favorites. Holy shit. This volume really had me going. So many feelings.
I feel like with a story like this, horrific experiments on humans are only a matter of time. But I do enjoy a story that blurs the line between the supernatural and the scientific, and the atmosphere of the setting is appropriately creepy.
I really liked this volume, and the whole Illuminati arc itself is very enjoyable! It was nice to see some expansion on the previous volume in regards to the illuminati arc, yet also leaving room for further development, answers to questions etc, in the next volume. The development of characters and their history was also a very prominent idea throughout, although unfortunately this meant Rin was not a heavily featured character. Kuro, however, had some very funny, memorable appearances, so I guess that makes up for it!
*3.5 stars* As always, I really enjoyed this! This is one of my favorite manga series, and even though this one isn't one of my favorites in the series, it was still enjoyable. I didn't feel like a lot happened in terms of plot development, or not as much as other volumes, which is the reason for the rating being lowered by a little bit. Still highly recommend this series though and can't wait for the next volume!
On a completely unrelated note, I'm tempted to rate this volume lower just because of how much Gedoin was in it. I won't though, since the story was pretty solid and it would be unfair for me to do that. I just hate seeing his face with every fiber of my being.
The exwires have been sent to rescue Izumo Kamiki from the Illuminati. Unknown to them, the Illuminati also hold Izumo’s mother, Tamamo, using her as a vessel for the Nine Tails. They intend to substitute Izumo for the dying Tamamo.
A symphathetic member of the Illuminati tries to help Izumo escape their clutches, but is caught by Michael Gedoin, one of the researchers. He orders Izumo to be taken back to the lab. A distraught Izumo realizes she can rely on no one – especially the traitorous Shima.
The exwires head to Dream Town Inari, where they figure out that those people who eat the local food fall under the sway of the Illuminati. Lucky for them, they’ve already been fed the antidote, thanks to Shiemi! Yukio calls for back-up from Mephisto, but as usual, it isn’t forthcoming. Finding what they believe to be the secret entrance to the laboratory, the exwires force their way in only to be met by an unexpected foe – zombies! The situation goes from bad to worse as they find themselves separated from one another.
In this volume of Blue Exorcist, the exwires work together in order to rescue their friend, whether she admits to needing their help or not. The villains have a field day as they press on with their terrible agenda. Also in this volume we get our first look at Lucifer – the beautiful man behind the odd mask – and we gain some understanding of why he inspired the devotion he does among his followers. On the other hand, Professor Gedoin is his antithesis – he is utterly obnoxious and repellent, but very devoted to Lucifer. Rin and his friends are growing and maturing as they continue to work together. Things are certainly heating up, looking forward to the next volume!
No sabemos.
My daughter, Kamiki, is really going through and my god. It's just going from bad to worse for her, and she really does just deserve better. The moments with Shima were interesting because he still presents himself as a sort of pseudo-friend in a way and I'm curious to see some backstory on how he was poached to work for the Illuminati. I know he mentioned Todo asked him, but for this about face, it seems like there should be more. Also, his access to a powerful demon.
I loved that Mike and Uke took up for Izumo, even if it was short lived and I am digging that rage Izumo has brewing within her. I really want to see her use that as she pretends to go along with what Gedoin and his crew want.
Lucifer seems vaguely interesting but I don't really care too much about the cast of characters we currently have. The girly who appears to be his second in command, the twins, and some other redshirt looking peeps. Meh. They serve their purpose in that I don't like them as baddies but I would like some more background invested into them.
Gedoin in particular, is just icky. He was making nasty comments towards Izumo but in this volume we get a full on fantasy on him being praised by Lucifer and he seems to treat any female figure with disdain, so it seems to flip flop. Either way, I can't wait for him to get his comeuppance.
As for the kids, it looks like they're always going to stumble first before getting their second wind. It's just okay. For once I'd like to see Shiemi be able to DO something proactive.
Oh my god everything about Dream Town Inari is creepy/horrifying, but I love it. The rescue arc has amped up! I also love seeing how all these characters have grown - I always love how Kato-sensei never lets the Rin steal the spotlight entirely! He may be our main character but she always makes sure that every character has their moment to shine and grow (it's no fun if only Rin is getting stronger, anyways). I'm curious to see what Mephisto is scheming this time, because he seems to know exactly what's about to go down and doesn't seem the least bit pressed to send help to our crew...
Side note, Kato-sensei I know this is on purpose but Gedoin is a gross creep and I hate every moment he's shown so I hope he gets killed off in the next volume.......
Blue Exorcist is one of my favorite manga. I started reading it years ago, and caught up to what was out at that point. I left it for a while and have been re-reading it in recent years. This was my first time reading Volume 13 and it did not disappoint (though I kind of spoiled it for myself since I already saw this arc in the anime).
In this volume, we learn more about the horror of Izumo's past. We (or at least I) am more and more convinced of how awful Gedoin and the Illuminati are. There's fighting. There's gore, which is not new, but I definitely feel that this arc has more gore than previous arcs. There's some humor (Kuro is honestly the best). And there are some heartbreaking moments too.
Knowing what's coming makes reading the manga really interesting. I remember the first time reading it, I had no idea what to expect. When the traitor was revealed, I literally gasped (in a room full of people, loudly enough that a coworker pointed it out). Now I know what's coming. It doesn't lessen the experience, but it does change it. In some ways it even enhances it because I have the characters voices in my head while reading. I'm looking forward to the next volume.
the Izumo rescue arc continues. this is the turning point in a to this point fairly light series. what was left of Izumo's backstory was fairly dark but does explain some of her action and behaviour up to this point. the villains are also interesting. so far we have only seen what one of them, the traitor, is capable of but they are shaping up to be a fairly interesting and dangerous villain. the turning point from light to dark were the zombies towards the end, some of them are not too bad but for the most part they look slightly grotesque and are creepy. will be curious to see how these are dealt with later on the other thing this volume does well is bring Kuro back after being sidelined for the last couple of volumes. no new characters were really introduced instead the characters from early on continue to develope and grow. the art style stays the same and continues to convey the action and the storyline well as the volumes go on. overall a really good volume which explores some of the characters in more depth. will be interesting to see where the story goes

Man, maybe Shima really is a traitor. Like 5% of me believed he could be pretending to be on the Illuminati's side and he was a double agent, but it doesn't seem like that now. It'd be shocking if he doesn't get some kind of redemption arc. And honestly I'd be sort of refreshing to finally have a traitorous character not have a redemption at all and they've always been evil or were on the dark side all along.
I feel sad for Izumo. Her situation is seriously messed up. I wonder if her sister turned out alright.
Konekomaru is also getting more of the spotlight. That scene where he nearly killed himself but didn't was intense and kind of helped with his character development.
The art has also improved drastically. Especially the panels with Rin. And Mephisto refusing to help them (at least not right away) is so like him. It ended on yet another cliffhanger so I'm looking forward to reading the next volume.

Izumo: the conclusion to Izumo's. Try sad backstory has arrived and with a few surprises about exactly how compatible she is with Nine Tails... I'm excited to see where this story and Izumi go as a character.
Rin; It seems Rin has hit a moral blockade now that his enemies are people who were and essentially are still human.... while it's not surprising that someone who values life so much is struggling with this I do hope he overcomes it soon.
Shima: ... screw it. I still like Shima, I'll just go on believing that he has no clue what he is getting himself into right now. Don't judge me. Denial isn't just a river in Egypt.
THE BAD
Mephisto: ... "I can't back you up right now I'm busy." You serious dude? Really?

So, here we finish the backstory of Izumo where basically the Illuminati has been using her mother as an experiment to try and gain immortality. One of Lucifer's objectives is to be able to gain a body for their father and he also ordered for no one to harm Rin as he belongs to their father.
This volume is pretty much filled with action as every find themselves battling a bunch of zombies.
There isn't really anything much to say here. Other than I wanted so badly to see what Rin will do faced with a bunch of zombies because like Shima said. He's emotionally soft. He has a big heart and he wants to save everyone, but it's also like Yukio says, he needs to just fight 😭 Meanwhile, Yukio is just badass. I love them both.

Rin and friends try to free Izumo but end up separated and attacked by chimera zombies.
I liked seeing how half the team dealt with these rampaging beasts (the others will be next volume). Any manga that takes the time to explain the difference between a ghoul and a zombie using the terms parasitized by a demon versus possessed by a demon has my heart.
I laugh everytime someone uses "Satan's illegitimate child" or "Satan's bastard" as an insult for Rin. Does Satan have a lot of legitimate children running around somewhere?
Our students are ready to attack the Illuminati to get their friend(s) back! I always love those shonen moments where everyone splits up to have their own little battles with the promise of meeting back up later. The experimental zombies they're facing are weird as heck and it's neat to have more 'human' opponents than the outright evil spirits and strange animal-like creatures. I like that less popular characters, like Miwa, are continuing to get the spotlight.
