I was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, left school at 15 and traveled the world with the Merchant Navy, which helped to broaden my outlook considerably. From early childhood, I was always fascinated by the world around me. It was inevitable then, that I took an interest in both the natural world and also astronomy. Ultimately this led to me finding a career in conservation/ecology and passionately following my hobby of discovering more about the Universe.

I only decided to write “Connections to the Cosmos” in response to questions that I was often asked. Initially I brought out a limited edition purely for friends and family, but feedback from them and others led me to publish it to a wider audience.

My other interests include sea kayaking, golf, snooker, tennis, reading, walking and rough camping.
