How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?
I feel most comfortable in writing fantasy. There’s something about the paranormal that intrigues me, like why some people experience it and others don’t. It’s a mystery no one can clearly define.
What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
I feel it’s good for writers to belong to organizations that support and encourage confidence in writing skills, and book promotion. It’s also important to build your brand, which is YOU the author, and this means social media networking is a must for today’s successful author. And above all–NEVER give up on writing and always keep striving for success–NO MATTER WHAT.

For many writers struggling to write that first novel, advertising has proven a useful field. For one thing—it pays. Like F. Scott Fitzgerald, Don DeLillo, and Helen Gurley Brown, who worked as copywriters in their early careers, I, too, was a copywriter. I began working for advertising agencies in the eighties when I lived in Wisconsin, which ultimately led to opening my own agency.
In a way it makes a lot of sense that the advertising field would spawn successful writers. In advertising, whether you’re a designer, part of the marketing team, and especially if you are a copywriter, it’s imperative to think out-of-the-box to get ahead of the competition. It takes lots of imagination and creativity to ping out creative copy for hundreds of print ads, brochures, TV advertisements and the like.
Another plus is that copywriters learn how to write economically and on deadline, and discover fertile subjects in the office life and business culture around them. Copywriting is like a prerequisite or exercise for one day writing a novel—not for all, but for some. I believe this is part of what helped me enter the writing world.
Last year I retired from the advertising and marketing profession that was challenging and sometimes frustrating and in many ways the most rewarding profession that I’ve ever held, in order to take on a new challenge—becoming an author.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Most consuming in my life has always been the question of what becomes of us after we die. Therefore, I felt compelled to write a book about death, but in a humorous, romantic way.
