After a daring rescue goes awry, the parched north of India grows too hot for nurse Laine Harkness and her friend Eshana. The women flee to the tropical south…and run headlong into their respective pasts.

Laine takes a new nursing position at a plantation in the jungle, only to discover that her former fiancé is the owner…and that Adam has no more to say to her now than he did when he crushed her years ago. Why, then, is she still drawn to him, and to the tiger cub he is raising?

Eshana, captured by her traditional uncle and forced once more into the harsh Hindu customs of mourning, doubts whether freedom will ever again be in her future, much less the forbidden love that had begun to whisper to her. Is faith enough to live on? Or is her Savior calling her home?

Amid cyclones and epidemics, clashing faiths and consequences of the war, will the love of the True Master give hope to these searching hearts?

How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?

The Christian category is a unique but strong niche. Not everyone wants to read a novel from a Christian viewpoint, but there are many who do. There is also a large segment of readers out there who like a good story with adventure and romance but do not care for erotica. In Christian romance, you get the love story, and all the nuances of true love without the erotic detail. Your 15-year-old grandaughter, or your 96-year-old grandmother could read my books, be entertained, and not be offended.

What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?

Keep writing. Perseverence is the game. You’ll probably need a day-job to keep the bills paid. But if you’re like me, you simply can’t stop writing anyway. And do not try to teach yourself out to write. Take courses, join writers’ associations, go to writers’ conferences. It takes a long time to learn to write a novel. On average 10 years, and usually it’s your third novel that gets published first.

Author Bio:

Irish-born Christine Lindsay writes award-winning inspirational historical novels. Her great-grandfather and grandfather both worked as riveters on the Titanic. Several more of her ancestors served in the British Cavalry in India, seeding Christine’s long-time fascination with Colonial India, and became the stimulus for her series Twilight of the British Raj. In her novels, SHADOWED IN SILK and CAPTURED BY MOONLIGHT, Christine delights in showing the love of God in times of great injustice on a national and domestic scale. She weaves the endless theme of redemptive love throughout stories of danger, suspense, adventure, and romance.

The Pacific coast of Canada, about 200 miles north of Seattle, is Christine’s home. Like a lot of authors, Christine’s chief editor is her cat.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?

My first book Shadowed in Silk was originally to be a stand-alone book. But when it continued to win 2 awards, final in two more, I thought this was good fodder for a series. The last few decades of Britain’s rule of India were full of heroes, amazing people like Gandhi, Lord Mountbatten the last Viceroy to India, and it was a time full of tulmult, that I had to write the series up to the Partition of india.

But also, there were two characters in Book 1 Shadowed in Silk that were so wonderful, so spunky, so alive, that they absolutely demanded I tell their story. Those two characters are Eshana, the former child Hindu widow and her friend, Lieutenant Laine Harkness of the Queen Alexandra Military Nursing Corp.

I had to tell Eshana’s story and have her captured by her traditional Hindu uncle and literally imprisoned for not living as a Hindu widow. And I wanted so much to give Laine a wonderful romance but full of obstacles.

In telling these two women’s stories, I get to add in lots of dangers, snake bites, cyclone, cholera epidemic, kidnapping, and wonderful characters who are seeking to know God better.

I also grew up on the blockbuster novels by MM Kaye about the exotic setting of British Colonial India, and had to write my own great big thick books full of adventure and romance. I also always liked the title of the classic novel Love in the Time of Cholera. While I didn’t care for the actual book, I loved the title, and had to write my own romance set against a time of epidemic and danger.
