So, I've been at this long enough that I have to stop and think about how many novels I've actually published. (answer: 13, plus 2 collections)  It's a milestone of sorts.

I find I've been inadvertently confusing people, because with the release of Kitty's Greatest Hits, there are actually 10 Kitty books on the shelves. However, 9 of them are novels, and Greatest Hits isn't (it's a different format and everything).  So I haven't been counting Greatest Hits in the sequence when I number off the novels, because it includes work written over the last ten years, and its continuity is all over the map, from 500 years before the novels take place on up to the recent ones.

So, when I talk about Kitty #10, I'm not talking about Greatest Hits (even though, technically, it's the tenth Kitty book).  I'm talking about the tenth novel, which is Kitty Steals the Show, which is coming out this summer (woot!).  #11 is the novel after that:  Kitty Rocks the House, which I have just turned in and will probably come out in about a year or so.  And I've just started work on the one after that, which is #12.

I hope this makes sense.

***Dave Hill Perhaps "Greatest Hits" could be considered #9.5, to reflect the publishing sequence, if not the actual story line.

(It's worth noting that Wikipedia, at least, considers "Greatest Hits" to be #10, if only because that's how the points are numbered.)

Margaret One thing to bear in mind about Wikipedia - it's user edited, so anyone can go in and change that.

***Dave Hill A good point, Margaret. I've taken it on myself to update the entry ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrie_V... )

Carrie Vaughn There's an idea! And I haven't checked the wikipedia page in a while (the subject of the page is not allowed to make edits, alas...)

This mostly happened because I was talking about #10 and some people thought I meant Greatest Hits... it is a bit confusing!

Elisabeth Waters You can't change your own Wikipedia page? No wonder Wikipedia is so inaccurate.

Carrie Vaughn Yeah I know -- it's to avoid blatant self-promotion and encourage non-partisan information. But it does result in many inaccuracies, because a person can't just pop on and say, "Um, that's not right..."

***Dave Hill Huh. I had no idea you couldn't do that.

Well, anyway, it's updated with the "author's canonical numbering scheme" info from above. Now all there's to do is ... wait for the (real) #10 to arrive!

Juliette I so can't wait! I bought the first audiobook because of the narrator (She also does Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan books) and got so hooked I bought the rest of them and had a Kitty Marathon! Then I started looking for other were heroines. Carrie, you are an incredible writer, and you probably hear it all the time...but thank you for Kitty the werewolf!
