Maybe the Virtual Polyanna should have said simply, "Be reality-based." Judging from those Five Fluffy Rules, s/he would probably tell a rape victim to join a 12-step and "surrender to a higher power."

I like the way you put that. Not that everything is wrong about living simple and looking on the brighter side if you can. But there are times that anger does run my car engine! And there are times it needs to! And, as you so aptly pointed out, "simple" is certainly not the same as "simplistic." And the truisms that keep being barked by those "in the know" trying to get something or another from you...ie. Remember what John Kennedy said about asking what you can do for your community rather than what it can do for you?" Ever read up on Joe Kennedy, his opinions and how he accomplished..., and how he raised his kids, boys in particular to fit the family destiny? Or those with the firm idea that it is up to the schools to ... social services will solve ... Or of those screaming that justice is not served in outcome of ...., but how would you honestly implement a change in the process to make it more secure and better proceeding? Would you merely try to superimpose your opinion? And do you really know a truth that those there don't and can do something with it? It used to make me quite angry. Quite a number of things did. But now I am retired, and the professional need to take some of these people and these things seriously is gone, Thank God!
