Born in Havana, Cuba, Rene De Paz is a Cuban-Spanish novelist and entrepreneur. At the age of seventeen, he made the life-changing decision to emigrate to the United States on an American Airlines flight, fleeing poverty, the Cuban dictatorship, and mandatory military service. He arrived at his new destination with two small backpacks, one of them filled with books. His love for literature began at an early age, writing short novels and fairy tales starting with "Once upon a time." However, he wouldn’t seriously pursue his career as a novelist until a particular story ignited his passion. He titled that story Climbing Mountains, the first in the Mountains Trilogy and the beginning of his burgeoning career as a writer.
