About this author

Now that Christmas has come and gone, and I am no longer holding this information hostage in order to surprise family members, my first children's book was published on December 6, 2012! Yay.

I think Turbo did a great job with the art, and I still love the little story. A big thanks to Steve Porter for the lecture that inspired this story and to Calee for all the work to get it out and get it Read more of this blog post »

Thomas Merton
“The lights of prayer that make us imagine we are beginning to be angels are sometimes only signs that we are finally beginning to be men. We do not have a high enough opinion of our own nature. We think we are at the gates of heaven and we are only just beginning to come into our own realm as free and intelligent beings.”
Thomas Merton, The Ascent to Truth

Patrick Rothfuss
“Words are pale shadows of forgotten names. As names have power, words have power. Words can light fires in the minds of men. Words can wring tears from the hardest hearts.”
Patrick Rothfuss, The Name of the Wind

John of the Cross
“They can be like the sun, words.
They can do for the heart what light can for a field.”
John of the Cross, The Poems of St John of the Cross

Carlos Ruiz Zafón
“Once, in my father's bookshop, I heard a regular customer say that few things leave a deeper mark on a reader than the first book that finds its way into his heart. Those first images, the echo of words we think we have left behind, accompany us throughout our lives and sculpt a palace in our memory to which, sooner or later—no matter how many books we read, how many worlds we discover, or how much we learn or forget—we will return.”
Carlos Ruiz Zafón, The Shadow of the Wind

Frederick Buechner
“The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.”
Frederick Buechner, Wishful Thinking: A Theological ABC
