Less Than a Week Until Pope Joan Airs for Women's History Month!
Here’s the good news: the movie will re-air in March to celebrate Women’s History Month, whose theme for 2012 is “Women’s education – Women’s empowerment”. A perfect fit for Pope Joan!
This time the movie is being shown in its entirety from beginning to end , on a single night, Saturday, March 3. Then it will be shown again in its entirety on Sunday, March 4th.
For details, go to http://www.reelz.com/popejoan/
These “all in one night” airings are great opportunities for groups to watch together–church groups with women ministers (or those supportive of women in the ministry); AAUW groups; libraries and bookstores celebrating Women’s History Month; women film-makers; “Red-Hatters”–and of course reading groups of all stripes! Pope Joan is a great way to spark lively and vigorous discussion of the important theme “Women’s Education = Women’s Empowerment”.
Unsure whether you receive REELZ channel? Click HERE to find REELZ on your TV. In the upper right corner of the page, you will see a very small log-in box (not sure why it’s so small and hard to see!). Enter your zip code and voila!–a list of channels and providers carrying REELZ in your area will appear.
Please help spread the word. Here are some suggestions:

Special holiday limited-time offer:
A copy of Pope Joan makes a nice holiday gift, especially for anyone interested in the idea of female empowerment through learning, the theme of the novel.
I'll inscribe a beautifully designed bookplate that attaches to the inside cover, for any Three Rivers Press edition of Pope Joan purchased between now and January 15th.
Here's how to take advantage of this bookplate offer .
Note: This offer applies ONLY to the The Three Rivers Press edition of Pope Joan. This 2009 edition is far better than previous ones. The Three Rivers Press edition has larger print (previous editions have teeny-weeny print that is hard on the eyes). Also, I made changes and additions to the text (every author's dream—to make the book better AFTER publication!). And I explain these changes and additions in the Author's note at the end.
Also included in this edition: new information about Joan's historical existence that emerged after my novel was first published. This Three Rivers Press edition also has a list of "Best of the Best" Reading Group questions, garnered from my many years chatting with reading groups all over the U.S. and Canada. Guaranteed, through the test of time, to spark interesting and lively conversation!

Want to Be a Part of the Pope Joan Reading Circle?
Every week, without fail, a book club decides to read Pope Joan. Especially for book groups composed mostly of women, Pope Joan tells a story of female empowerment in a time in which women had no power. The book will generate an engaging and entertaining discussion among the members of your group, but in addition to that, you might be able to get the author herself to join you via conference call for your discussion! Donna Cross has been doing this for years, and is more than willing to listen as you discuss the book, offer insight into the discussion, and answer any questions that you may have!
You can purchase the book for the group HERE, and can find details about Donna joining your book group at www.popejoan.com, or just read them below!
Have the author join the conversation when your book or school group discusses the novel.
Donna will chat by speakerphone with any book reading or school group that chooses Pope Joan. Here's your opportunity to ask questions of "the horse's mouth"! Which characters and events in the novel are real, and which are fictional? How was the novel researched, and how is it being adapted to the silver screen?
Fill out the request form to take advantage of this unusual offer. There is no cost involved — simply a gathering of readers or students and a speakerphone to make sure the entire group can share the experience. A discussion guide is included in the book.
How to Make a Request

Leave a comment to let Donna know how you found out about the book and why you chose it for your group. the more details you can provide, the better Donna can tailor the experience to your group's interests.
Chats are not limited to the US. As long as it can be scheduled within the hours listed above, Donna is happy to chat with readers in countries all over the world.
To make your request for a conversation, link here to the chat request form.
What Happens Next? Chat Details
Once you've made your request, Donna will be in touch with you, usually within a week. Together you will determine the date and time for the chat.
You will need access to a speaker telephone. Donna recommends giving it a trial run beforehand by having someone in your group dial in to that phone from outside. Make sure that you can hear her clearly—and that she can hear you from a good distance away.
Plan the call to come in 15-30 minutes after your group gets together. At that point you will have begun your discussion and Donna's role will be to answer those "horse's mouth" questions!
At the appointed time, Donna will you For the next 30 – 45 minutes, you'll all enjoy each other's company while you discuss Pope Joan, its inspirational heroine, the meaning of her story for our modern world, the author's research, and details of the movie now in production.
