“Years ago, when I was working on my master's thesis, I went to New York for a semester as an exchange student. What struck me most was the sky. On that side of the world, so far away from the North Pole, the sky is flat and gray, a one-dimensional universe. Here, the sky is arched, and there's almost no pollution. In spring and fall the sky is dark blue or violet, and sunsets last for hours. The sun turns into a dim orange ball that transforms clouds into silver-rimmed red and violet towers. In winter, twenty-four hours a day, uncountable stars outline the vaulted ceiling of the great cathedral we live in. Finnish skies are the reason I believe in God.”

Sir, I just finished Snow Angels and really enjoyed it! I have bought ALL of your books and can't wait to read them.I would have never discovered Inspector Vaara without your friendship request. Thank you.

Ahh no worries Jim. Well I'm close to that demographic and I'll let you know what I think of it soon :)
Thanks! I'mm sure I will enjoy HW
Graham wrote: "Hey Jim :) You should add your short story "Bite Marks" to goodreads. I'm going to read it soon! P.S can't wait for Helsinki White :)"Hi Graham, I think I'll just leave BITE MARKS as is. I'm hardly a master of the short story, just put it up as a teaser for the website. However, a few people, especially in the younger demographic, mid-twenties, have told me it's one of their favorites. It seems to strike some chord with that generation. I hope you enjoy HW!

Yeah. I'm obsessive compulsive. I got into this social networking thing and now I'm consumed by subjects like aggregation, building networks. Could be a worse compulsion. I'm coming into contact with a lot of interesting people.

Thanks for helping me out!
That's great, Jim, I for one am happy to find all your reviews in one easy-to-find place.I completely get what you mean about the widgets: I've always been wary of them, too...
Thanks Annie, I went through that stuff. The 3rd party content didn't work, and the widgets, well, they guide people to content I can't control, so I decided against it. I'm gonna do it the way you previously suggested.t. Jim
Always a pleasure to help, Jim!If I can figure out a way for you to just add the book titles and the links to your reviews on your author page, I'll be sure to let you know.
EDIT: I've looked around a bit more and realized that your author page has features that are unavailable to me. However, I did come across this page: http://www.goodreads.com/author/how_to
It seems to offer a pretty good overview of how you can use your author page, including importing content from a pre-existing blog. However, I can't see anything that pertains to adding links to third-party content on your author page. If such a feature does exist, my best bet would be that you would find it in your "Author Dashboard". Another possibility might be the "Author Widgets". For more information on "Author Dashboard" and "Author Widgets", I would suggest taking a closer look at these sections: http://www.goodreads.com/author/how_t... and http://www.goodreads.com/author/how_t...
I'll keep you posted if I find anything else. Good luck!
Annie, you are too cool. I'll give it a shot. Mine are all online. I really just want people to be able to see the book titles and links on my author page. Thanks, Jim
James wrote: "Learning how to use this thing, I feel like a dufus. People have signed up to read my reviews, and I'd like to put up a few I've published. How do I do that? Anybody care to help me out?"Hi Jim, here's how I would do it:
1. Perform a search of the book you want to review using Goodreads.com's search engine (top of the page)
2. Once you've located the book you're looking for, click on the title. This should take you to a page that provides a summary of the book and other details (editions, # of pages, publication date, ISBN, etc.)
3. Right underneath the book's details, you should see a section called "My Review". You can post your review in that section using the "add review" feature.
4. Click on "add review". This will take you to a new page where you can rate the book, write a review, and specify a few more things, like the date when you finished the book and such.
5. Write your review in the box underneath "What did you think?". You can preview your review (no pun intended) by clicking on "(preview)", which is right next to the "post" button.
6. When you are happy with your review, click the "post" button, and voilà! :-)
I hope this helps!
