Anne Maeve Binchy Snell was an Irish novelist, playwright, short story writer, columnist, and speaker. Her novels were characterised by a sympathetic and often humorous portrayal of small-town life in Ireland, and surprise endings. Her novels, which were translated into 37 languages, sold more than 40 million copies worldwide. Her death at age 73, announced by Vincent Browne on Irish television late on 30 July 2012, was mourned as the death of one of Ireland's best-loved and most recognisable writers.
She appeared in the US market, featuring on The New York Times Best Seller list and in Oprah's Book Club. Recognised for her "total absence of malice" and generosity to other writers, she finished third in a 2000 poll for World Book Day, ahead of Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, and Stephen King.

Este foi o 2º livro que li da Maeve Binchy contado desta maneira, a diferentes vozes. O outro foi Os Segredos de Shancarrig, ou The Copper Beech. Não é o meu estilo favorito, talvez porque me perca um bocadinho na história e porque nem sempre a(s) minha(s) personagem(ns) favoritas é "seguida" a 100%, prefiro histórias completas. Mas é uma maneira engraçada, até porque vemos os acontecimentos como são sentidos pelas diversas personagens.
É sempre bom quando tudo acaba bem, e já sabemos que é normal nestes livros, e acabamos sempre com um sentimento de bem estar.

Adorei este meu primeiro livro da Maeve Binchy! A forma como se desenrola toda a história é muito boa. Tudo gira à volta de um curso de italiano leccionado numa escola numa das zonas mais pobres de Dublin. Os alunos são-nos apresentados um a um, sendo muito distintos uns dos outros. Temos desde bandidos a ricas da alta roda. Adorei a escrita, muito fluida e devorei o livro.

Gostei bastante da rede complicada (ou talvez não) de personagens, dos seu dilemas e da forma inteligente como a autora os ligou a todos através de um simples curso de italiano. Fez-me lembrar um pouco um filme do Woody Allen, mas em versão livro, feminina e mais dramática.
