Not the cold eyes of a man who kills for the thrill of it and sleeps like a baby afterward
Until Starling
My son’s girlfriend and my new obsession
She falls into my lap like a wounded bird with broken wings
Branding me with her touch, making me an addict after just one taste
She thinks I’ll give her up once she gives in
But she’s never met a man like me before
And Forbidden Fruit was always my favorite.
He calls me Birdie...
But they know me as Starling.
A strange girl with a pretty name
I’m the orphan everyone pities
A perpetual victim who has spent more time on her knees than most
Until Hudson
He's a monster of his own making
One who crosses all my lines and pushes every limit
He doesn’t want to free me; he wants to cage me
And if I resist, he’ll destroy the only boy I’ve ever loved.
After all, monsters don’t win hearts
They steal them.
Author note: There are no heroes in this story, no sweet declarations of love or hard-earned redemption arcs. But then, some girls don’t need a hero to save them; they need a villain willing to burn right along with them.
**This book plays with the darker side of love, such as obsession, infatuation, and the power plays made to obtain it.**
It goes without saying that this book contains dark elements that some readers will find uncomfortable. A list of potential trigger warnings can be found inside this book. Readers must be aged eighteen or over because therapy is expensive.
What a wild ride and so in keeping with the previous books. It was dark delicious and deviant everything I've come to anticipate. Definitely read the triggers before starting though as there were plenty. But if you're looking for some dark toxic loving with red flags aplenty then this series has you covered.
Oh Pete Pete, you bloody dark horse you. I don't though why I thought you were the sane one of the bunch but Pete AKA Hudson is as deranged as his buddies that came before. He's a wolf in sheep's clothing also he's not just the driver like portrayed he's so much more. Pete is Hudson and his own man the job just a cover to fly under the radar hiding his real occupation of hitman, Yikes!
When his ex-wife dies in a hit and run he finds himself the reluctant guardian of a teenage son. He's been absent his whole life and a stranger too. Along with his son, he also inherits a stray in the form of Starling his son's stepsister and apparent girlfriend. Does the fact that he thinks she's with his son stop Hudson from the course he's adopted? Well of course not, Hudson's still determined that Starling will be his and he's not choosy about the methods he uses or even who stands in his way when it comes to claiming her for his own.
Starling was an intriguing character she's had a hard tragic life and trust doesn't come easily. She recognises the monster in Hudson and is rightly wary from the onset but Hudson is a deviant bulldozer and she doesn't stand a chance against his brand of possessive and crazy.
So this has an age gap though nothing happens until Starling is of age. Hudson is in his forties Starling just turned eighteen. Be prepared for plenty of dub-con and toxicity as this has that vibe in abundance. If you've read the previous books in this series you'll know what to expect. But basically, Hudson is one seriously psychotic individual especially when it comes to Starling and his morality isn't his biggest selling point.
I enjoyed this in fact the whole series has been amazing red flag behaviours and all. If you're after some possessive OTT unrepentant bad guys who are morally skewed and don't apologise for this then this is for you. The end justifies the means is the motto for this series. I also loved how much Atlas and Kenzo we got here and the banter was the icing.
This had some seriously filthy spice but also lots of heart. There was danger and a mystery to unravel. It also had darkness and toxicity and bad men who stay bad which honestly is my favourite kind. Highly recommend this series if you like your romance on the darker side.
Let's be honest, Hudson is the worst. He is unhinged, possessive, obsessive, lethal. He is the real definition of BAD GUY. The way he force himself in Starling' life is so damn wrong and yet.... I LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT IT! I LOVED HIM. PERIOD Am i insane? Probably. But i haven't had sucha deep reaction to a book in a while. I mean, i laughed because of Kenzo, Atlas and Hudson' banters 🤣 I cried with my baby Starling for her awful past. I suffered with them when everything was about to go down. I cheered for them when they get their happy ending. I was so involved i hardly contained my reactions in public 😂🙈 Their brand of crazy is what i love most about this series. And Candice Wright is slowly becoming one of my favorite author because she is not scared to write about bad men who stay true with their nature despite falling in love 😌
You know him as Pete Smith aka Hudson the loyal driver for Atlas Monroe but he is so much more. Starling aka Birdie is his estranged son’s stepsister/girlfriend. When they both have to live in with him this gets complicated when Pete gets obsessed with her. He might be a bad man but little Starling might bring out a different side to his monster. This is book three in the series but can be read as a stand-alone. These men all live in a world where they make the rules and cross them. Violence, DC and questionable actions all merge in this very dark story. Leave your moral compass behind while reading, lol! Please check the TW as this has quite the list and is not your hearts and flowers type of romance. Also the twist was really good but I won’t say anymore. Told in first person and dual POV
If you are like me obsessed with this series, prepare to be tested , to question your morals and values everytime the MMC does something , you'll be like " ummm it's not that bad, he's just misunderstood". then rest assured. Candice Wright is serving the usual. Dark Unhinged Deprived All the triggers and not for the faint of hearts.
I absolutely loved it.
🥀Pete/Hudson: has the full package of dark and disturbed. He knows what he wants and nothing AND NO ONE, not even his own blood, will stop him from getting what he wants, Starling.
🥀 Starling: his son's girlfriend, his ward, broken beyond repair. But all Hudson sees is beauty 🖤🖤 THE MAN IS OBSESSED. The way he loves , treasures, albeit using questionable methods, but mehhh " if he could, he would" and Hudson sure can and does.
🥀 Forced proximity 🥀 Son's girlfriend 🥀 Guardian /Ward 🥀Age gap (20+) 🥀 Assassin MMC 🥀 Triggers (LOTS OF THEM). 🥀 Resilient and fierce FMC
( You'll have your fill of Atlas and Kenzo, and the facts that they were present, in action and theory made this more than just a "complete standalone" but a continuation to see how the other couples thrived and still strong , it was sooo hilarious at times. IYKYK!!!! I quote ❝You know things are going to shit when Kenzo is the voice of reason. ❞ 😂😂😂 soo hilarious. ).
I’ve never read a Candice book I didn’t like and this one was no different. Commit pushed on the taboo and my triggers. Not enough to make me stop though. When I read the prologue, I didn’t know where it was going. Let me tell you I was not prepared for the twist THAT would turn into. The traumas that Starling endured as a child, and in her late teens, heartbreaking. Her best friend kept her sane, her best friend’s dad used her love against her. Her savior was the villain and he never pretended to be anything different. Hudson pushes the boundaries and Starling shows a strength only people who have dealt with what she has, ever possess. This is not your typical love story. It’s about as unconventional as it comes. He falls first whether he realizes it or not and she fights it every step of the way. Twists you didn’t see coming, surprise character development, friendships deeply rooted, and a May-December romance that works.
“If this were a movie, I’d be yelling at the heroine to get the fuck out now before she wakes up choking on more than a red flag.”______________________________________
I've loved the previous 2 books in this series. This one was also fantastic but very different in many ways. Our heroine is a deeply wounded and traumatised individual. She has a strong and special relationship with Abott, which is the Hero (Hudson) estranged son. Abott and Starling are best friends, they are not in a romantic relationship in that way, they are a little bit codependent, though within this book the heroine has sex with both Abott and Hudson, her and Abott do sleep together during the beginning of the book (as they do within their friendship) and they do have sex after Hudson and Starling have a dubcon/noncon situation. This might be something that bothers me in a story, but given starlings backstory and their relationships, I was not actually bothered by this, I found myself absolutely fascinated, intrigued, and fully invested This was a great story with an ending that, frankly, I didn't see coming. I won't give that away. Well writed and interesting plot. A lot of the time, I wasn't sure if I loved or hated Hudson. That was also interesting, he didnt come across as the typical Hero either.
I will say I'm not the biggest fan of the heroine, realising she LOVES the hero because of the conflict that happens at the end. I prefer for her to realise this over time, naturally throughout the book, I can't say that I completely felt their connection if I'm being honest. It's still a wild ride, though.
Poor Starling she been through H€ll her whole life. And goodness Pete (Hudson) is very very over protective of her. Also a lot infatuated and cr@zy.
Abbott and Starling go to live with Hudson after the Mother is killed in a hit and run. Abbott and Starling have an odd relationship that I will not go into you must read to find out about.
Kenzo is still funny as well as Boss man. The three together are still unstoppable.
This one wasn't as good as the other two but the twist made the book worth reading.
Yuck. Honestly Hudson was gross. I was really looking forward to this book because I really liked the first 2 but this was just grim the whole way through. Starling had more compatibility with Abbott then Hudson, he just gave off creep old man vibes from the start, and this book did ruin Atlas a bit, encouraging Hudson to go after his sons girlfriend. They all act like family is everything but then they commend Hudson for being a deadbeat dad? I hated how he was thinking about getting Starling pregnant when he'd already walked away from 2 children. I nearly DNF'ed so many times but I wanted to see if the story could miraculous turn him around, it didn't. He's the worst and not in a hot way.

Wow! What a crazy, twisted ride! As is my normal with a Candice Wright book, I could not put this down. I've been in a reading slump since I finished it because no other books compare. Absolutely loved Starling, and Hudson's insane self did eventually grow on me. I think this quote from Atlas sums up Hudson the best: "How is it that you managed to make me and Kenzo seem sane?" He for sure took crazy to the extreme to get the girl. While I figured out the villain before he was revealed, the lengths he went to, and the reasoning were nothing short of shocking! The one thing I thought was missing, (this is more of a personal preference than anything wrong with the book), is that I wish there was a scene towards the end where Hudson and Starling discussed her past, since the majority of what Hudson did know was from a third party. It would have been a good opportunity to see more of them interacting as a couple after Starling was done fighting the relationship.
I feel like I’m okay reading books when the mmc is more of a “absent” father but the mmc in this just seemed to be a straight deadbeat imo. I literally only read 15%. Nothing on the author as I’ve enjoyed her work in the past
This surprised me—I really didn’t think I was gonna like this since I gave both book 1 and 2 in this series 1 star. But I’m a completionist through and through, so I had to read the last book in the series.
I think the main reason I didn’t mind this as much as the other books is that the MMC actually felt guilt and regret when he pushed the FMC too far and then tried to make it up to her—something you see none of in the first two books, like at all.
Also, if you like the type of porn where girls get groped on a bus or a train, you’re gonna have a field day with this one lol.
Picture this, I’m minding my own business sitting at the dining table eating my breakfast, a lactose free strawberry yogurt, reading this book, which I haven’t been able to put down by the way and all of sudden Starling gets her @/&&:$);!!”/ &;$$)?;@:””/& &&763902&;! &&9863)?;&@,@;!!!!!!!!! YOGURT ALMOST CAME OUT MY NOSE!!!
Candice can do no wrong. This series is fecking awesome and all kinds of wrong but so damn right.

🅼🆈 🆁🅴🆅🅸🅴🆆:
This series is the best freaking combo of suspense and when the madman anti-hero falls in love, so this book was definitely a highly anticipated one.
This story is of obsession, when a madman who has no sense of moral boundaries wants to have you at any cost. Beware, this one goes full in where taboo and forbidden vibes are concerned so please leave your moral hats off before starting this one as shock is the least of what you can expect in this one. 🥵😈
Let me first warn you, Do Not and I mean don't at all expect anything even close to sweet or trying to think our anti hero can even be redeemed or you can find any qualities in him that can make him sane, because that is not the case at all.
This story is about Pete actually named Hudson, whom we'd met in the first book of Atlas and Ivy. Nobody knows what Hudson's real identity is everyone thinks he's Atlas' driver when in fact he's one of the most dangerous Hitman out there.
The prologue had me so upset about what happened to the girl and I wanted to know more about her and what her story is.
Hudson gets the news that he's lost his ex-wife and he gets the responsibility of his youngest son and a girl who's their stepsister. Starling cares and loves Abbott, Hudson's youngest son and now that the only woman who cared for her is gone, Starling is ready to be the best person as she doesn't want to be going to the streets again and is grateful for Abbott's dad to have taken them in.
Birdie, he calls her - Hudson is a goner for Starling right from the first moment. Mind you this story felt sort of a mindfield of emotions for me to navigate through - as we wade through the complex mix of lust, desires, unusual love borne of mutual understanding and friendship but there's also the unrestrained madness of a man who doesn't take No for an answer.
Dancing on the thin line of wanting and doing the right thing gets Starling unable to process what she's supposed to do.
We also have mysterious murders happening around town and things start heating up when signs point to those linking to Hudson. What's strange is those people having a random number marked on them that nobody has a clue about the meaning of.
I'm still not team Hudson, honestly because I felt he was a bit too much for me - I'm glad we see his genuine care for Starling but some of the things he does and the way he's so cold, didn't make me a fan of him.
For me, Starling is the hero of this story not because she does something monumental or anything but because of the fact that she's survived so much and is a freaking strong lady to still feel and care and be a good hearted person.
Atlas and Kenzo were fun to hang around with as we delved deeper into the ongoing investigations about the mysterious murders.
If you love 𝗍𝖺𝖻𝗈𝗈/ 𝖿𝗈𝗋𝖻𝗂𝖽𝖽𝖾𝗇 𝖻𝗈𝗈𝗄𝗌 with spice, then this one was scorching hot and can't deny the spice was crazy. I mean....oooohh... 🌶️🌶️🥵🥵🔥🔥
The twister and the finale was totally unexpected and shocking but also a bit horrifying too with all the events that lead to it.
What has warmed my heart though, is finally seeing Starling have happiness after the horror story that's been her entire life until now.
I enjoyed reading this book, but I'm not quite sure how to rate this because some things were a bit icky for me.....
I've had this book in my KU list for the longest time because I heard that she has sex with both the dad and the son and I.....don't like when family members eff the same person.....its one of my DO NOT READ things you know? Cuz how uncomfortable are thanksgivings when you get together with the other family member that also shared sexual body parts ya heard me? I don't mind cheating books, dark books, etc but this is a bit cringy for me when family members are involved....sisters both effing the same guy and know exactly where his penis ridges are? Ew. LOL
But honestly, I loved the first two books of this series, and I love this author so I gave it a go. I figured that if it becomes too much for me, I can dnf and move on with my life. Like I usually do haha!
So Candice Wright did me a solid and made this father/son effing the same girl a bit more palatable. He had his first son with his ex when they were 15 and then got married. They had another son later on, but he would be away on military service and later on, became an assassin. So he didn't have that much contact with his two sons because he didn't want his assassin status to get his family hurt or killed. His ex wife dies and he goes back to his sons. His older son is an older lawyer and his younger son is 17, still in high school. He takes in his younger son so he can finish out his last year of high school senior year. Younger son is coming with his "step sister". They pretend to be girlfriend and boyfriend. For her, its to have his protection from meanie people at school and for him, its to stay in the closet as a gay guy. But they have sex multiple times (dad watches from his cameras in the rooms) and then goodbye/breakup sex later on in the book which made me kinda cringe a bit. She was a bit of a bland character to be honest. Shes been through some shit growing up with sexual trauma and being used as a hohoho so if you have triggers, I would read up on what they are.
there is also a bit of a mystery with people dying all around them. also, H is also doing some serious unaliving with dead bodies trailing behind him if they do anything to the h ahaha.
loved atlas and kenzo when they got involved. that was fun and funny banter.
anyway, i didn't hate it? I didn't love certain things so its not a five star but I enjoyed.

Before I even saw the description for this third book in the series, I was hoping it was going to be Pete's story. I just wasn't prepared for the sweet driver we loved from the first two books to be a disguise for the darkness that is Hudson, the gun for fire, the assassin. And I'd even go so far as to say he's the darkest, most twisted of this psycho bunch we've grown to love. He's no hero, no good guy, even if he does have his moments.... eventually.
We learn he has two estranged sons when he gets the call that their mother has been killed in a car accident. He ends up taking in the younger son, Abbot, and their stepsister, Starling, as both are just shy of eighteen and need to finish out their last year of high school.
Hudson/Pete is drawn to Starling from the very beginning, even if there is quite the age gap. And as soon as she turns eighteen all bets are off. It doesn't matter that she's currently dating his son. He's determined to have her even if that involves a little blackmail.
Hudson and Starling are battling their major push and pull dynamic while he's also working with Atlas and Kenzo to figure out who's dropping bodies all around. The mystery of numbers carved into them and long forgotten links to the past and seeming random connections has the guys constantly working to figure out who is behind it and who's their real target.
Honestly I had a bit of a hard time with Hudson's obsession and power plays with Starling at first. But as their journey evolved and the more they circled around each other the more I started feeling for them. Starling went through so much when she was younger, then while in school, it felt like she needed her own monster in Hudson to have her back. And she deserved the support of this new found family that came along with him.
This story is not for the faint of heart. Hudson is not going to make some big change from his psychotic ways just because he finds this connection with Startling. He stays true to his crazy self and takes on anyone who gets in his way. Even with the hard start this was a great dark romance with some huge twists I never saw coming.
This book had me pretty sucked in from the very beginning even though I HATED some of the things that were going on. I haven’t read the first two books in this series and you didn’t need to, although I’m definitely going to read those now because I’m so intrigued by the other characters.
I’m not going to re-summarize this. The description gives you an idea of what this book is about. I’m just going to tell you what I liked and didn’t like.
THERE WILL BE MILD SPOILERS
This might be might my first true dub/com book. It really made me hate Hudson for while. I was so curious how Starling was eventually going to fall in love with this guy. Surprisingly—I felt the sex scenes between them were still really good and so intense (as long as you’re ok with dub/con😉).
Now this next factor almost ruined the book for me. There are many sex scenes with Starling and Hudson’s son Abbot. Even after Starling and Hudson begin their “relationship”. In fact there are times when she has sex with Abbot just before or immediately after she has sex with Hudson.(which I found to be completely gross). Now her and Abbot are just best friends and are really only seeking emotional comfort with each other. But we learn early on that Abbot is actually gay. Not even bisexual. I think this was to show how loving and intimate their relationship was—even though they weren’t “in-love”. But the fact that they were having sex was just unnecessary IMO. I absolutely HATE it when the MC’s have sex with anyone else over the course of the book under any circumstances. But this goes to show you how good this book is because normally I would have DNF’d immediately.
With how horrible Hudson seemed, I never dreamed I would actually be rooting for him and Starling. I never thought this book could turn around but let me tell you IT SURE DID. There were twists and turns and I never would have guessed the major twist at the end. I stayed up till 3AM to finish this and I cannot wait to read the first two books now.

This was quite the read. I had no idea what to expect going into this. Coerce is one of my top reads ever but Compel fell short for me. I honestly can't even remember that much about the second book. I was hoping this would redeem itself and I think it did.
Honestly, the beginning is a bit slow, IMO. It took me a couple of days to get through the first 35% or so. However, I think the latter half of the book really makes up for the slower start.
Hudson is one of the most unhinged heroes I've come across. He is right up my alley. Unhinged is an apt descriptor for him, it's like he can't control himself when it comes to his desire for the heroine. He has an urgent need to tie her to him in any way he can. He doesn't even care that she is his son's girlfriend (as far as he knows). He blackmails her into the relationship with him and she's not super happy about that.
I also enjoyed the relationship between Atlas, Kenzo and Hudson "Pete", their teasing of each other and commentary on each other's situations made me smile.
Safety readers beware - she is sort of his son's girlfriend. It's not a "real" relationship but Hudson doesn't know that. We see her and his son (Abbot) have sex a few times in the book. It's on page. It's not particularly good for her. Hudson is intensely jealous. So yeah, if you don't like seeing on page sex between the main characters and other people you probably want to skip this. Honestly, it felt unnecessary. Abbot is bi but leaning toward gay and in the closet. He uses the FMC as a beard in the book. They could have done that minus the sexual relationship. It didn't ruin the story for me personally but I see how it could for others.
Medium burn, Hudson and Starling have sex for the first time around 38%.

ARC Review of Commit by Candice Wright * * * * * Another dark romance served up with a side of forbidden, deadly, and twisted. When an obsession blinds a man to a young woman in making her his, no matter who he hurts...including his own family.
Hudson had a complicated life, but it was one he found simple in his line of work. Until one phone call changed it all. When his estranged sons Landon and Abbott come a calling with a favour, he's unsure, until that favour involves taking in Abbott and their stepsister Starling. His beautiful little birdie. He should be focusing on the murders terrorising his life and targeting his work and friends, but there was nothing that was going to stop from making Starling his. Starling has been through so much in her life, facing and dealing with horrors that she would never speak aloud. With Abbott by her side, he is all she has after the loss of the stepmother who cared for her. Now, she's at the mercy of 'Pete', her boyfriend and stepbrother's intimidating father. He's boxed her in. He's made a promise. He's made a threat. She cannot escape him.
We have a heavy dose of messed-up and twisted, and we love it! Possessive, obsessive, and it's not letting go of us in this chokehold. Hudson's difficult relationship with his sons is edgy, as he constantly deals with his youngest Abbott whom he's more astranged to than his eldest. Abbott is like his father is many ways, hot headed and arrogant, and dealing with his own secrets. Starling's past is one that haunts her, but it is lovely to see how she find light to escape to with Abbott and her stepmother. With how Hudson torments her, I was truly hoping she would fight back more. Nonetheless, another fantastic read from this author.
In Commit we get Hudson's story, book three of the Death in Bloom series. And it was pretty good, but for me, it was my least favorite of the three.
Book one was a tumultous ride, pushing my emotions and my sanity up and down the whole way. Book two was intense and disturbed, and the ending was fantastic, making it worth reading both of the first two books. However, book three started off a bit slow for me. It was definitely a different type of story the author was trying to tell.
I loved the banter between Atlas, Kenzo and Hudson. Their witty conversations, playful quips and wisecracks have definitely solidified them a place in my heart as crazy, possessive, unhinged heros. However, I struggled a bit liking Hudson. He's definitely over-the-top, and he did some pretty awlful things to Starling, but I either wanted to him be more extreme or softer. I think it was the slow start of the book that kept me from attaching to him as strong as I did with Atlas and Kenzo.
Starling was a broken little "birdie" for sure. And I really wanted to like her more. I finally did closer to the end when she started standing up for herself a bit more and pushing back. I would have liked to see that strength and the retorts earlier, because when they finally started coming from her it was fun, but it didn't feel natural. It felt like she was quiet, shy and reserved, then boom, all of a sudden she wasn't.
Bottom line though is I did enjoy the book. I did enjoy the twist at the end. And I would recomend all three books. I would say that they have some dark and twisted moments, but they won't push you too far, so just enjoy the story.
After almost 2 years, I finally returned to this universe, and oh man, I missed Candice's writing about her male main characters (MMCs). Diving back in with "Commit" was an absolute thrill. This book had everything I craved and more! Pete/Hudson was just as crazy and captivating as Atlas and Kenzo, bringing that unique intensity and depth that Candice is so brilliant at crafting.
From the moment I read "Coerce," I knew we needed Hudson's story. He was the perfect red flag character—flawed, intense, and utterly irresistible. Candice didn't hold back in showcasing his complexities, making him one of the most unforgettable MMCs I've encountered. The age gap element was handled with such care; it was present, but it never felt icky or inappropriate. Instead, it added another layer of intrigue to Hudson's character and his relationships.
But let's not forget about the formidable FMC, Starling (Birdie). My heart broke for my baby, but oh, she is so strong. Candice always writes very damaged FMCs, but they are so strong and smart and fighters like no other. Birdie is no exception. Despite the immense challenges she faces, her resilience and intelligence shine through, making her a truly inspiring character. Watching her navigate her struggles and grow stronger with each passing page was a highlight of the book for me.
It's important to note that there are definitely some trigger warnings to be aware of, but Candice's storytelling makes it all worth it. She has this remarkable ability to pull you into the story, making you feel every emotion alongside the characters. "Commit" is a rollercoaster of emotions, and I loved every second of it.
Overall, "Commit" was a phenomenal read that reminded me why I fell in love with Candice's writing in the first place. Hudson's story was everything I hoped for and more, and Birdie's strength and resilience added so much depth to the narrative. If you're a fan of intense, complex MMCs, strong and smart FMCs, and a plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat, don't miss out on this one!
Commit (Death in Bloom #3) by Candice Wright. I have to start out by saying I was extremely confused by the beginning of this story. I also was hoping this book was going to be about a totally different character than Pete. I was disappointed this story was Pete, aka Hudson, Atlas's driver from book 1. I am so glad I read this book. It was so good. I loved it. Just so you know, this book can be read as a standalone. However, if you haven't read books 1 and 2, do so. They are well worth the read. Pete is a stone cold killer, and he could care less. He had his sight set on Starling. Starling is not only 17 going on 18, but she is also Pete's youngest son's girlfriend. None of those things were a deterrent to Pete making Starling his. And he went totally left to make it happen and even further after that. Her age meant nothing. Being his son's girlfriend and taking her anyway or where he saw fit didn't affect him. As Pete is being a total douche to Starling, he is also trying to help Atlas with a string of murders. The murders are a message, and Pete is determined to figure it out. As the killer leaves clues like bread crumbs, a discovery is made. When everything was said and done, I was floored. Candice blew my mind. I had to eat my words on how I initially thought about this story. Definitely put in mind of Sole Survivor. If you haven't read that book, do so. Not now, but right now. Both books 5 stars. The endings are everything.
I've been loving this series this is the darkest out of the three, all of these can be read as standalones but I urge you to read all three in order. Commit is definitely the darkest of the three books and boy it's definitely my favourite!!!
This story follows Pete aka Hudson......all we know of him is that he's been a personal driver for Atlas and wow Hudson is something else!!! He hides the darkness within him in the first two books all we believe is that he's a sweet driver but......he's an assassin and works alongside Atlas and Kenzo. He's definitely the darkest and twisted out of the three men and boy did he make my heart go boom.
We learn he has two estranged sons and after their mother dies in an accident he ends up taking his younger son in not realising he comes with a girlfriend....his step sister Starling. They are both shy of 18 and Hudson is enthralled with her from the get go.....he wants her and he doesn't care who he hurts in the process and that includes his son!!!! He won't do anything until she turns 18 and when she does all bets are off!!! He's determined to have her!! Honestly this was so so good I love a dark story and this was no exception! I urge you to read the TW at the beginning they include....
A very large age gap Abuse Mafia Mental health Dub con Forced proximity Taboo
Honestly I couldn't put this down the sex is 🥵 this is definitely not hearts and flowers type romance....this is dark and twisted!!!
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ I absolutely LOVE this series and I was excited to see there was another book coming!
Hudson (Pete) and Starling are absolutely perfect! If you haven’t read the first 2 books in this series it’s okay. Previous characters are mentioned.
This book follows Hudson is the driver of Atlas and is also an assassin although no one would have ever thought. When his ex wife passes away, he has to come to with who’s going to be there for his sons that he hasn’t really been apart of their lives. This is where he meets Starling, their step sister whose father also passed away. She’s a package deal when he takes in Abbott his youngest.
Starling is a broken girl whose lifeline is her relationship with Abbott. She just wants to stay hidden and lay low until she turns 18 and can get out on her own. Once Hudson sets his sights on her, oh me makes it his mission to have her. The spice was 🥵🔥 especially that train ride😉! He’s literally the definition of “touch or look at her and ☠️”
As the story goes, the more you discover all the secrets and a plot twist I did not expect!! Let’s not forget the banter between the guys…Atlas, Kenzo and Hudson😂. Especially the Chuck E Cheese comment😂😂.
Candice wrote another beautiful book♥️. I would love to get another book in this series but only time will tell🤞🏻!! As always please know your triggers before reading!
Candice has done it again! 🙌 I couldn't wait to read about Hudson after meeting him in Coerce. He’s the perfect Alphahole hitman, lol. He decided Starling was his, and that was that.
I have to say, I wasn't a fan of him at first. The way he treated Starling, especially after getting her POV, was tough to swallow. But man, did he turn things around. His commitment to keeping her safe, protecting her, and taking care of her totally won me over 🥰. Hudson’s character growth was amazing, going from a rough, stubborn alpha to someone who genuinely cared for Starling.
Starling was such a strong FMC 💪. She went through so much but stayed resilient and determined. I loved how she used her experiences to help others, showing her strength and compassion. Her journey was super inspiring and added a lot of depth to the story.
And that twist! OMG! 🤯 I did not see that coming. Candice Wright is a master at throwing in those unexpected turns. Just when you think you have it all figured out, she hits you with a curveball. This is why I love her books – you never get what you expect.
I really hope there are more books in this series! 📚❤️ The mix of suspense, romance, and unexpected twists makes it a must-read.
