Wars are not won by battles, they are won by determination and a refusal to surrender or die. When humanity waged war with the demons, the greatest warriors of humanity stood tall and won every battle... only to lose the war.
Now, however, it is the demons turn to learn that lesson.
Battles innumerable have been won by their forces, but can they take the day at the only battle that matters?
This book is a long build up to nothing. There’s a lot of fighting and talk about what is and has gone on, a whole lot about how humans are just dirt and that the “change” causes demons pain and to go crazy, repeating this point over and over, with a completely flat ending that just sort of happens. If you’re not disappointed by this ending I would be wildly surprised.
I have been waiting for this book for years. I’ve loved this series since first reading it a few years ago, and the story did not disappoint! Elan and co. were as epic as ever, and the “final battle” was as well. It was a thrill ride every step of the way, and I especially enjoyed the little hints here and there of the deeper truth to the story.
The only problem was that it was clearly not proofread, at least not very thoroughly. Names were frequently misspelled (Kaern vs Karen, for example), and there were several omitted words or typos that forced me to reread sentences and break my immersion. I would have happily given this book 5 stars if not for that.
However, despite the errors, I still loved this book, and I think anyone who loved the series thus far will enjoy this dramatic finale.
I did enjoy this solidly. I was also tickled pink by the end when I finally realized what this series was supposed to be the super ancient prequel to. While I don't think this is some of Currie's better work, it's still enjoyable enough to give a try. -------------- You know, after reading a few other reviews I'll add my desire for Evan Currie to get a proofreader. It's odd, I never noticed on his earlier books that the lack of a proofreader was THAT bad, but the past 4-5 books have been pretty horrible in that direction. I hope that doesn't mean he's failing to 'make it' as a writer, as I truly enjoy his various works. It is a bit concerning though, along with being annoying while reading. :(
The start of the book didn’t impress me, I think the author was trying to pickup the different storylines from the previous books, but this means he jumps all over the place with a dozen different POV in the first chapter, not how I wanted to get into this book. However once I got into the story it turned into a really enjoyable read.
There were still a few problems, the author has a tendency to over-write things and at times he can be a bit repetitive, making me wish he would get on with it. In fact I was getting slightly irritated with how he dragging out the final battle, but in the end I thought this was a decent conclusion to the trilogy.
I chose my rating because this story was pretty awesome!!! I couldn't stop reading it. The battles were described in a way that it would not be bad for young children to enjoy. I plan to introduce this entire series to my teen age grandchildren. I hope there will be other stories about the characters in this series.
Elan a group of Atlantans and others that follow her lead join Merlon to save their world. This story leads you to demons , celestials, Banes, elementals, and bring them in to a deliteful story that transports you into a fight to save to save your world from demons.
Has a little bit of everything I thought! Starts out apocalyptic but then turns into hope with a single person. Also has a look into a different perspective of who and how creation started. A little of magic is introduced also. Couldn't put it down especially the 3rd book! 👍👌
The MC, while still prone to TSTL moves, was much better in this book than the previous two. She should have died at least six times but the baddies like to pontificate a bit too much which gives our MC plenty of time for a miraculous escape/victory.
The series is worth the listen and the author has some really good space sagas.
An amazing ending to a great story. I was very refreshing to see an epic war of Humans against Demons with the humans has the perpetual underdog and the creative ending to the story. Very original in my opinion.
A fantastic book worthy of a five star rating. The editing is horrible though. There are many typos. It is a real shame. It takes so much away from the story. Hopefully they fix the errors.
Great story; too bad the typos are a huge distraction like so many other Currie books. Although I reported as many as I found I doubt they'll be corrected. Oh well (shrug emoji).
Crap, due to the pathetic proof reading and the lack of respect for any reader. Such sloppy presentation of a mediocre at best, plot, has annoyed me and convinced me that any further offerings from this author are not worth my money, or time. End of bleat!
Wow, where to start. It seems EC decided to change parts of the original story and keep the characters. The action sequences are excellent and the ending is satisfying and leaves an opening for other stories. The book has a lot of spelling errors but you can figure them out with a bit of thought. It is a good story but suffers from the changes and errors.
As usual, I’m left envious of Evan Curries mastery of story telling. This is a fantastic book that I would recommend to anyone that enjoys fantasy. We’ll done.
