I never wanted to be anyone’s mated anything. I wanted to be in control of my destiny, not held down by the shackles of my biology. My father, unfortunately, had other plans. I was supposed to fall in line like my sisters, but I ran. The night of my mating ceremony I rejected my four Alphas and got as far away as I could. I gave up everything and walked away from my family and never looked back.
But even in death my father still wouldn’t let me be free. The day of his funeral I’m given an ultimatum. He offers me a chance to run the family business but under one condition. To accept the mates I left behind and reclaim what’s rightfully mine. Or I lose it all forever.
Nothing’s ever easy in the Smooth family but I will find a way to get what I want. I just hope my body doesn’t decide to betray me in the process. Along with my heart.
Going Down Smooth is a Stand-Alone Why Choose Omegaverse Novel. This book contains adult content and not suitable for readers under the age of 18.
Talk about a cliffy! Mercy was fiercely independent and (rightfully) afraid of her unexpected designation. The unfolding of the complexities of her dynamic with her parents, siblings, and rejected mates was engaging and intense. Trey was the resident sensitive boi, complete with musical talent. Lox was impulsive, quick to anger, protective, and playful. Nate was also sensitive and cared deeply for his friends. Knight was all broody intense self-sacrificing and occasionally secretive leader. All of them were consent kings. The whole status quo being upheld by a religious group was relatable. Y’all know me; I’ve got that religious trauma. Looking forward to answers in book 2!
Spice: 5/5
Triggers: rape and domestic violence (side character), fire and explosions, violence, attempted murder, emotionally abusive and controlling parent, parent deaths from cancer and accident, grief, oppression, religious bigoatry, forced marriage, infertility, blood, torture
In can’t believe that cliff hanger!!!!! I’ve never read an omegaverse novel, but this was a great introduction to the genre! I found myself intrigued by the lack dynamics and rooting for the heroine the whole time!!
This story was sexy and intriguing and I walked away wanting more…a lot more!!! Can’t wait for the next installment!!!
omg I. loved. this. I was hooked from the first chapter and I couldn't put it down.
I loved all of the characters. Mercy's character development was great, and I loved how she went from hating what she was and running from her childhood best friends to sorta accepting and growing a bit and realizing that the ones she ran from weren't going to break her trust. and then the alphas, I absolutely loved them too. I am an sucker for ANYTHING with "he falls first" and I feel like this had that several times over. and I obviously loved them all together. and I'm SO excited to see where the thing with Free is going. as long as it doesn't head in the direction of Faith's pack I think I'll be happy. I just want everyone to have a happy ending 🙃 my only complaint is that I didn't think there was enough of a conversation or whatever between the five of them about her fears and things. there was one, which I liked, but I almost wish it had been a bit... more. and that maybe some of their childhood relationships had been discussed a little? like I can kinda see their chemistry as is, but I feel like if we had seen more of their past it would have made me root for them a bit more?
but ultimately, that didn't really affect my overall enjoyment. like I've said a bunch already, I loved this. the writing, the characters, the story, all great. I still can't believe that ending! but I'm very excited to see where the author takes the story next! definitely recommend if you're looking for an RH spicy omegaverse with second chance, rejected mates, and childhood friends to lovers.
Oh my goddess I needed this. There are so many elements to this story that has me absolutely swooning. OV always has the potential to be anything and this really showcases that potential. Honestly I can’t even be mad about the cliffy because it’s so good, it somehow feels right. I will say that I think not having the conversation or scene that led to Mercy’s fears and rejection of the guys was a miss, because it leaves the whole plot to seem a little bit forced. Not that her fears aren’t valid but the picture that is painted of the pack doesn’t fit the narrative. Outside of that this was everything you want in an OV and with an all Black cast/pack. ALL THE YES!!! Ate it up!! This is absolutely my book dreams come true. And omg the pack the PACK lord the Alphas!! I love all manor of MMC but the ones that are just head over heels in love always leave me with a smile so big it hurts! I cannot wait to see where things go, Dreia promised not to make us wait to long but she did promise that it would hurt a little and well that just makes me want book 2 more!
I wanted to like this but it felt so rushed. There was minimal conversation or growth for the relationship. They literally just picked up where they left off. The dads will makes no sense . He says he regrets trying to force her to mate and then proceeds to force her to mate. The best friends chapters were random and unneeded. And let’s not forget the random SA at the end. Unfortunately, I will not be reading the next one
Driea Wells has just deeper her toe into the omegaverse and I'm ecstatic. Going Down Smooth Part One has all the omegaverse goodness, knotting, heats, scents, and mating but it also has the family drama, all set in the backdrop of a small town. What a read!
Mercy's designation doesn't fit her. Her thoughts, actions, and temperament screamed alpha but when she revealed it was an omega, her world flipped. Mercy no longer recognized herself, there was a lot of fear, anxiety, and a little self-loathing. Mercy is one of the stubbornest people I've read and she's the type that doesn't easily admit when they're wrong but it was that strong will that allowed Mercy to find her own path. She's still strong but she's just now learning to accept the omega in her with the help of her guys.
The award for most swooniest pack goes to this group. Dang Mercy lucked up. Trey, Lox, Nate, and Knight are a bunch of good guys. Even after Mercy hurt her best friends by rejecting them they still loved her after all the time apart. Every single moment they were separated was thoughts of her, every decision was with her in mind and they didn't even let themselves hope she was coming back. That's heart-aching love right there. Knight is the control freak, Trey is the intuitive one, Nate is open and then there's Lox. It's always the wild ones, the most violent of the group that is always utterly devoted to their girl. They're all in and I just eat it up. Love it. Things between Mercy and her guys pick right back up with only minor adjustments so no long angst moments there and thank gods because something needs to be easy. Even things with Mercy's bff feel a little shaky.
I did know what to expect from this plot but had all these intense moments and hints at things not being right. This book was mostly family drama. Benjamin Smooth's (one of Mercy's fathers) died and kicked off a bunch of drama. Christopher (another of Mercy's "father"s) is an a-hole who really has me seeing red. The man is a nasty piece of work and obviously plotting something. Then there is Mercy's big sister, Faith's Pack who are the worst, full of losers stirring up trouble in the town. Not to mention a shifty beta who I still can't get a beat on. Enemies are lining up, emotions are high, and things are getting dangerous.
Going Down Smooth Part One is just the first book. The plot was learning about the past through time jumps and flashbacks. Seeing how Mercy's family worked and how Mercy and her pack interacted with each other. It also set up the world pretty well. Small-town drama because of small-minded people. The Omega laws are changing, giving them more rights but some people are against it more likely due to the fact they want power and control. Dreia has set things up nicely, with the negative vibes in the air, the antiquated beliefs, and people unprepared for change. There is a dark cloud on the horizon and I have a feeling things are gonna be explosive in Part Two.
Well that was..... cruel! How could you Dreia! I was NOT expecting that ending! Ok, deep breath...in, out, in, out...
A very familiar world crafted by Dreia Wells, who I'm still deciding whether to forgive or not, a world where Omega's are less than nothing, a commodity to be used and abused at the whims of her pack. No say, no respect, only blind obedience is accepted by the community. Thankfully, the community is slowly changing but there are too many who advocate for "the old ways". Those that do, the way I see it, are the weak ones, the ones with major chips on their shoulders and need brute force to make them feel, well, manly. What a load of crock! That's what Mercy has been afraid of all her life, being insignificant. But she's not, never has been and she wasn't going to start now.
Her 4 best friends, who all adored Mercy and she them, always knew they were a pack, that is until Mercy manifested not as an Alpha but as an Omega. So she did the only thing that made sense to her, she ran. Her actions caused such pain, not only to her 4 mates to be, but to her as too. I loved the raw emotions in this book, the fear Mercy feels, irrational though it is, it's real. Only, she couldn't have found better mates is she combed through fine sand to find them. They are the opposite of what she feared. And she thankfully got to see that.
I loved the strength of Mercy, the conviction she had and watching it all unravel. Not in a bad way whatsoever, rather in the most beautiful tender way possible. Losing her father forces her hand and she is faced with her mates to be, or mates that were. But there's a beautiful twist, not all the men want to subdue their Omega's. These guys are so caring, the hurts from Mercy's rejection fall by the wayside as they help her through an incredibly difficult time. Very emotional scenes, very hot steamy scenes and very warm caring scenes are penned with great care.
I was astonished at the twists and turns, not being prepared for them, they blew my mind but the final chapter, the final scene, left me limp with anguish! But as I come to the end of my musings, yes Dreia, I DO forgive you, because I have another book to look forward to!
At this point, I think I'm the problem with the amount of books I've DNF'ed this month. For this one, I just really couldn't deal with them referring to her as Alpha.
I’m guessing it's because she’s the centre of their pack but I feel like it’s making the fact that she cannot accept her own designation even worse. It was a massive, massive ick for me and made me cringe every time.
Surely they should be showing her that she can have all the traits of being a leader, domineering etc AND still be an Omega. They don’t care about her designation but still there are references to her as their Alpha - that’s weird to me. They are essentially confirming that you can only be those things as an Alpha so we’ll call you that because that’s what you want to hear. That is not the makings of a strong relationship to me…
She’s an omega and she’s all this is not who I am. I was meant for more. This would’ve been SO good if the story was that she can be who she wants to be AND be an Omega. But instead they’re calling her Alpha. That is big omegaverse ick for me. Sorry. This could've been a really empowering story.
This really could have been so good but there are just a few things letting it down for me 1 being the Alphas giving into her designation delusion. The other being she wants to help her sister knowing she’s in an abusive relationship but idk what she thinks going toe to toe with her sister’s pack is going to do for her. Is it not realistic to think they’d just take it out on her?
Another thing was her dad’s will stipulating she can only have the company if she bonds with the Alphas she rejected. That was wild to me because HE SAID he deeply regretted forcing the mating ceremony when she designated which led her to run away but now he’s stipulating it in his will if she wants the family business? That is so fucking shady and doesn't even make sense. He regrets doing it so... is doing it anyway???
3.75⭐️ I think that this was a solid omegaverse! I looove that Mercy was a bad bitch especially in terms of omegaverses because it’s not typically “normal” for them to be so assertive. My girl was breaking societal norms and i can’t help but STAN. I also highlighted so much of what the guys said to her because they ATE. The only thing i wish was different is that there was a little more pining and re-connection given that she was gone for 5 years and ran away from them. Buuuut, i can appreciate the distance not having an affect on how they all felt about each other despite what happened. Also, the ending was a little predictable buuut, i still ate this up regardless.
Here’s some of my favorite highlights:
What I can promise though, my Little Mouse, is that I will remind you every day that you are our chosen Alpha. You always have been and always will be. You lead us. It’s not the other way around.”
“I know we have a lot to work out, Mouse, but you are it for me. You are it for us.”
If I am going to submit to anyone, it will be her.
One word. The power behind it, immeasurable, she is my Alpha and my Omega. Mercy Smooth is the beginning and the end of us all.
I’ve missed Mercy for a long time, but my soul missed her voice the most.
This book was so good and so different from most OV books. First of all, as the blurb states, Mercy did not expect to present as an Omega, she believe she would be an Alpha and has the personality to back that up. So when she presented as an Omega and her world as well as the world's perception of her changed everything came crashing down and she left her home. But now she's back and she'll have to face who she is as well as everyone and everything she left behind. Most of all the alphas she had formed an unofficial pack with. Loved all the angst and the strength in the book and shown by the characters as well as the unconformity throughout. Can't wait for book 2!
Mercy was spoiled, stubborn and selfish and because of those three things she missed out on five years with her alphas. She also missed out on time she could have spent with her dad before his death. I liked her mates Knight, Nate, Trey and Lox a lot more then I liked her. I do feel they forgave her way too fast for rejecting them and running away for five years. When she returns to take over her fathers company she’s met with animosity and hatred. This ended in a cliffhanger and am interested in seeing where this goes.
I loved the characters and their relationship with each other , and I love the whole plot of this book . I love we got to know each one of the main characters and their uniqueness and was able to get attached to them. There was way to many super detailed descriptive scenes of rooms that were almost page length which cause me to skim over some paragraphs trying to get back to the story (I was trying to figure out what was going on in the office not what the walls look like ) some flash back conversations were unnecessary some of these scenes just felt like fillers . I don’t understand how Mercy mother not realizing and speaking against what her husband is preaching and why is she ok with her daughter abuse ? It makes her just as bad as Christopher. I can already see in the next book she probably gonna have to decide between her husband and her daughter and I don’t know who side she would choose.
I’m at a loss for words. Seriously. I love omegaverses but I have been in a hunt, a mission even, to find one that primarily features black and brown characters. This one right here! This one was it. I’m so blown away. The writing was amazing and the dynamic between the omega and her alphas is different than what I have read before and I will be swiftly going to the next one. I saw someone say that they weren’t happy it was split in two but the books aren’t that long and I think it makes for great storytelling.
This is going to be my review for the duet together. I honestly don’t know why this duet isn’t more popular. I really enjoyed it. It had a lot of different aspects that made it out of the ordinary.
The character development was so much better than most omegaverse books. I liked the way it did flash backs to reveal the dynamics of the already built relationship. Usually I’m not a fan but this worked well for me.
Maybe because I recently went to a presentation about the history of patriarchy but the theme of this book really hit home. I never thought I’d enjoy an omegaverse where the omega acted like an alpha, but here we are.
Just so surprised I liked this as much as I did with so many elements I would usually say that I’m not a fan of.
This was great - emotional depth, interesting characters, great world, good spice, compelling plot. The only thing I can't get behind is Mercy's original decision to leave. I understand her reasoning and do feel for her situation, but these guys were her best friends for years and she didn't trust that they would treat her right, even when other people wouldn't. I guess that's how you act when you're 18.
It’s only recently I’ve started reading omega novels and th is was was great ! Loved all the characters loved the story and how she thought she was an alpha until she … wasnt I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to find out what happens in the next book … hopefully it won’t be long !
This is a new to me author and she is definitely going to be a repeat for me. I’m new to Omegaverse, but this book has made me fan. Mercy and her pack are so hot🔥🔥.I can’t wait to read more!
I liked the trope treatment. There were quite a few typos but nothing super distracting. I feel like the cliffhanger was a weird place to end it. Still enjoyable though.
First of all cheers for black romance books breaking into every genre and sub genre🥳! This book was everything I want in an omegaverse and then some even with the cliffhanger (can’t wait for September). Tropes Include; omegaverse, friends to lovers, rejected mates, second chance romance, reverse harem (why chose)
The book is brilliant, but I'm so disappointed that it's in 2 parts! More and more author's seen to be splitting the book into 2 parts, and it's driving me crazy!! Are author's so desperate for good reviews that they resort to this frankly frustrating thing to make sure that the reader will come back to finish the story!! If that is the case, then I'm sorry, but you've just lost me as a reader! I know there will be some author's who are genuine, but this is really turning me off reading their books!! This book would have got the full 5 stars from me, but because it's been split in 2, it's only got 2 stars. Such a pity!!
Interesting OV story! *RH *Omegaverse *Multi-POV *second chance *rejected pack *in denial FMC *family drama *friends-strangers-lovers *established harem *fast burn 🔥 *1/2 This storyline focuses on Mercy Smooth who always believed she was and would be an alpha, she certainly has dominant traits, yet she late presents as an omega and everything as she knew it drastically changes!! Even her beliefs in her childhood best friends and all their plans as a future pack 😖😖 As Mercy runs and leaves everything behind resentment begins to build, yet this omega cannot deny her designation forever and it’s certainly puts her in a tricky spot when she’s forced back home! 🙈 Upon seeing her the rejected alphas cannot deny the pull they feel to our Mercy and neither can she, it’s instant the connection that revives between them 🥰🥰 you do get a bit of a feel for the boys different personalities, personally I would have liked a little more depth to them. But boy are they going to need that forgiveness and strength of their feelings to face what’s to come! Especially in the face of Christopher 😡😡😡 and the stipulations of her business takeover 😩 it all comes to head in the cliffhanger and wondering whose responsible for what?!! There were a couple of things that I felt got glossed over a little like Knights use of alpha bark but other than that if you love an instant pack story then a read for you!
Going Down Smooth is the first book in Dreia Wells’s Omegaverse Novel. Get ready to meet Mercy Smooth. She’s a late bloomer when it comes to the world of Alphas, Betas and Omegas. Due to her lateness everyone thought that she’d present as an Alpha. But life throws Mercy a curveball, and she doesn’t take it well. Instead of trusting the men that she’s grown up with and loved since she was young, she chooses to run. In her wake, she leaves them broken, and hurting. However, when life throws another curve ball at her, she must make a choice...accept what is being handed to her, or run away...again. Going Down Smooth is an engaging novel overall. Mercy is a complex character. For me, it’s hard to have a lot of empathy for Mercy when she’s sitting around wanting to feel sorry for herself. She’s caused a lot of pain, but you’re going to see that there are those who are against her. Hence, the range of conflicting emotions. LOL! There is definitely the steamy factor in this novel. It’s nice to see the romance redeveloping between the characters. This book ends on a cliffhanger, but before you rev up to rant, it’s a mild cliffhanger. You’ll be curious as to what is going to happen next, but you know that certain key elements are going to be true no matter what. I enjoyed this book overall. It’s a good read, and I’m looking forward to a few revelations in the next book which will also be the conclusion to this duology. 4.25 out of 5 stars
(Start of book) oh so this is a cute romance! (End of book) GOOD LORD WHAT—
I looove strong women, and this was great! Omegaverse is often too white and *too* submissive and teary about their problems, and this is neither. It seems most if not all the characters are Black/POC, and the FMC Mercy is such a boss! A woman after my own heart.
Some CW, this is part romance part drama. May drag at times, then have a bunch happen at once.
I really, really enjoyed this book! Mercy has always thought she was an Alpha, until she presented at a late age as an Omega. Suddenly, all the plans she’d had for her life are gone: running her dad’s bourbon business, going to college, running around with her 4 best friends - all guys. Faced with the loss of her dreams and having no idea how to survive within the very limited boundaries allowed to Omegas in her city, Mercy panics and runs away in an effort to figure out who she is now that everything she’d thought she’d known and wanted from her life is lost.
Mercy spends five years away, living in a city where Omegas are considered equal to Alphas and Betas, and she makes a life for herself despite missing her 4 guys terribly and suffering the guilt of having left them and her family. When her dad passes away, she goes back to her hometown for his funeral. She’s shocked when his will is read, as her dad leaves her in control of the bourbon company, but only if she meets the specific conditions he establishes.
Now she must face the men she left, as well as the very harsh, cruel judgment of others in her hometown - and even from members of her own family - who expect her to conform to their expectations of Omega behavior, even if they need to resort to violence and intimidation to make it happen.
I really liked Mercy and her potential mates, as well as Freeya, Mercy’s best friend. I also enjoyed the way the story expands beyond the interpersonal relationships between the 5 main characters; encompassing Mercy’s family, the bourbon business, the men’s bar, and the community. It ends on a heck of a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to see what happens next!
This is my second book I’ve read written by Dreia and I find I’m loving her books the more I read of them. This one is an Omegaverse book and is absolutely fantastic. It was gripping and addictive from the very first page. The characters are perfect in every way. The Alpha Men were intense and had a dynamic that was awesome, and even in the hurt, angry, and betrayed state they were left in they still maintain hope.
Mercy was raised to be an Alpha, she had the sass and the attitude of a great alpha, until her eighteenth birthday when she finally presented as something they never imagined….an Omega. Everything changed, her outlook on life, her four Alpha best friends she loved with every ounce of her being. But she couldn’t live as an Omega she was an Alpha at heart so on the day of her claiming she ran. Lost, hurt, broken, angry and betrayed her Alphas let her go and moved on with their lives. Five years later her biological father passes and she must return…..this is a story you have got to read. It’s intense and emotional.
This book was an absolute emotional rollercoaster of ups and downs. Full of secrets, lies, betrayal, family drama, love, devotion, and so so much more. Get a glance into her best friend Freeya and her situation and hope to get more of her story either in part two or her own duet. This also ends on a a major cliffhanger that will leave you feeling rather frustrated but I know the wait will be worth it to find out what’s in store next. Can’t wait for part two of Mercy’s Duet. This was definitely a must read book, and I definitely recommend it.
