A beautifully written and illustrated book about the winter that Lewis and Clark's party spent at the mouth of the Columbia River. The book has a horizontal orientation and with the photos, maps, and illustrations gracing most of the pages along with the text. The author, who lives in the area where this book is set, has devoted much time to researching and writing this book. I believe the book to be extraordinary.

Exception book detailing the two weeks the Lewis & Clark expedition spent trying to go the last 20 miles of their journey to the Pacific Ocean. The confluence of the Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean is extremely challenging to cross.

Well researched, detailed focus on the month leading up to the establishment of Lewis & Clark's winter camp in Oregon. In Full View gets 5 stars from me for detail, and 3 stars for how those details are presented. Too often for my liking, the author's explanation of the events of a particular day are followed by an excerpt from one of the explorers' journals, saying almost exactly the same thing. I could have done with fewer maps, as well. These are personal preferences on my part, and I recognize that other readers may love all of it.

The author succeeds in creating an understanding of the frustrations and worries of this portion of the Lewis & Clark expedition. Anyone with more than a passing interest in the Voyage of Discovery will likely find this book interesting.

Amazing that no one figured out until now that the view L & C saw has been blocked by the development of the Clatsop Spit. Thought he also did a great job of retracing their journey in the area and really understanding what they were doing and going through day to day.

This book is a hidden gem. If you're interested in Lewis & Clark, just read it. And if you have a chance to see Rex Ziak give a talk, go. He's an outstanding speaker. Just give him a stack of post-it notes, sit back, and enjoy.
