Alexis Samson is a debut author delving into the fantasy market. She grew up immersed in fantasy worlds, so it's no wonder she decided to create a few of her own.

If she'd been born in the middle ages she'd have almost certainly been a goatherd or some other unremarkable profession. But that wouldn't have bothered her because she'd have spent her days in much the same she does in the 21st century—daydreaming.

When she's not writing or immersing herself in books with kick-ass heroines, you can find her slumming around watching Netflix or plotting ways she can annoy her cats (most plans involve poking them).

Oof, lots to say about this one.

This is a surprising disappointment for me. If you don't know, I gave Book 1 a 5 stars rating. My experience with that book is oh so precious and it bummed me out that I couldn't find that same sparkle I found in book 1.

First of all, maybe the biggest issue I have with this book is the male lead. Oh my god, he's useless, dumb, and as boring as cardboard. He honestly ruined everything for me. Because of him, I'm not too fond of the romance in this book... Hell, I might hate this book just because of him alone.

He's not bad bad. But he's dull and useless bad. Without him, this book would be far superior. I actually would've preferred this book to be about Asea alone.

Now, talking bout Asea. She's a badass queen. She's calculative, smart, cunning, and a master tactician. I freaking love her and one thing that I don't like about her is that she fell in love with the male lead. 🤭

All in all, this is only my opinion. I still recommend the first book to anyone. The star of this show is Asea, and you'll stay for Asea.

This fell short for me in so many ways.

Here's the thing. I asked for more politics. And yeah, the author delivered. I got more politics, and I was so dang excited for it. BUT. We spend the majority of the book going from counselor to counselor having the exact same conversations trying to get people over to their side. I got bored after number two. Like, come on. I will say, Asea was pretty great rigging everything up to go exactly her way, and I love her for it. Honestly, her character is the best part of this duology. And this (quite) boring book.

Rhone has zero personality and is as boring as boring comes. There's hardly even a point of him being in this book. And the romance, if you can even call it that, is a joke. At what point do these two even get to know each other? What even is there to.know.about Rhone? He's literally got zero dimension to him.

Here's my biggest gripe of all. I read two books waiting for the shoe to drop and for Rhone to figure out Asea's true identity, and there was WAY more emphasis on Seyin finding out who she really was than there.was with the King finding out. She was all “I'm tired of telling this story” by the time she got to Rhone. It RUINED this series for me. I wanted this huge explosion of emotion and love and honestly and… ANYTHING. All I got was a “why am I not dead?”. Ugh. The biggest letdown ever. Honestly.

Book 2, way better than book 1. But still, just not for me.

Clean read still!

This book stars right were the other one left off.

I love the ending and found it a perfect fit.
This story really shows the growth of the MC as she battles what it means to be a queen of a land that is not her own while trying to stay true to her roots.

I love the side characters so much. The author does an excellent job making me become attached to the side characters as much as the MC.

I really loved the first book and am happy to finally know the ending.

A nice conclusion to Princess Asea's journey. I would have liked to see a touch more chemistry between the leads and a little more intricacy to the world and its politics, but all in all the duology is a clean, decent read. The story largely ends up where you expect it to, but the simplistic narrative and the short length lends to a comfortable story for anyone looking for a quick fantasy romance that's not too heavy laden with worldbuilding and politics.

This is the second and final book.. I honestly expected a bit more from this. She is finally starting to fall for him and show her feelings and yet she never completely does.. then there is the fact about the outcome when dealing with Moulod. It was a strong political game that held a lot of risks but ultimately worked out in the end.

The final piece where she does finally go home and then reveals her true self to him is perfect. I do wish that there was a timeframe stated in there somewhere stating how long it has been since she got home though. Was it a couple weeks, a month ? Either way, it ended perfectly!

the ending felt too abrupt?? like everything wrapped up quickly and smoothly; everyone is chill with what happened. plus the mmc was useless in this. ugh i really enjoyed the 1st book and looked forward to read this. sigh

loved this book!

I enjoyed this book so much! Great characters, really well written. And I loved the political intrigue. Could have really been one book, though.
